Drops tier 5 shoulder tokens and an array of other lovely loot.
Considered the second boss in TK.
With the opening of TK to everybody, expect this boss to be on everybody's loot piñata list.
This guys is not a gear check. He is extremely easy. He is definitely do-able by a Gruul Guild. As long as your members are smart your fine!
He is immune to poisons.
The trash on the way to Void Reaver is honestly harder than the boss itself. The arcane orbs, although meant to be avoided, are capable of being resisted; aside from their damage they can silence as well.
hmm 3387 mana, any confirmation on being able to burn it? Or if it would even help?
On a less serious note, the voice over for this guy is pretty entertaining =)
I don't think the trash before him is hard at all, but the boss isn't either. Just do a 4-tank rotation because of the knockback, make all melee dps move out of pounding when it occurs, and make ranged/casters move away from all the arcane orbs. gg no re. If it's your guilds first tries, try to bring as much ranged as possible, might make it easier for you. Good luck.
He is also immune to Siphon Life and Drain Life (warlock abilities). A loss of a DOT ability in this fight, since it requires mobility, is definitely an inconvenience but the fact that warlocks cannot Life Tap and Siphon Life + Drain Life is a bigger hurdle to get over. As long as you do not get hit by the orbs, you'll be fine.
One thing to remember, if (like my guild) you ignore the comment of "melee DPS must avoid pounding damage" (I.E. standing in the poundings and getting healed) you'll end up taking a TON of damage over the course of the fight. You can mitigate a huge portion of this damage with some arcane resist. Alot of the Melee DPS used their trinket from Kara (
) for all of their arcane resist and it reportedly prevented something the the realm of 40k damage.
I am working on DKP values for my guild as we will be attempting him soon, can someone post how many of each type item he drops? Is it 1 item and 2 Tier pieces? or 2 each?
He drops 2 shoulder tokens as well as 1 epic, with a lowish chance to drop one of the patterns.
You're all calling him easy, but with 4,500,000 health, doesn't he require pretty insane DPS to get down before the enrage timer?
4 tanks and 7 healers leaves room for 14 DPS'ers, means an average of 535 DPS per DPS'er - include some DPS from the tanks, and it may be as low as 500.
But that still doesn't scream walkover to me - what am I missing?
If you are only putting out 500ish DPS you need more DPS. Grul requires a minimum of 8500 sustained to get him down, once you have a group capable of that then you can do VR quite easily.
700-800dps is about standard for well geared players.
"Loot Reaver" is a reward mob for being able to get into the instance and clear the trash.
He is by far the most killed 25 man mob, and drops nice loot.
A shadow priest with 800 spell dmg (such as myself) can pump out over 500dps with their eyes closed, one hand tied behind their back and each third of the keyboard hotkeyed to SW:P, VT and MF. then just pound your head on the keyboard.
Shows on the above note that he has 1.5 mil health. He has right around 4.5 million health.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but you can reset him if it starts to look like a wipe. Just run out the door to his room and he will drop target, run back to his starting position, and be back at 100% health.
This is extremely convenient if one set of trash has already started to respawn.
If your having trouble dodging your orbs, pan your camera up and you can see them coming from his head.
Edit: Also, they do not change course, they target a person and go to where they are. If the person moves, the orb will not change course
It is possible - and preferable as you will get more dps - to let the melee stay for the pounding and have 2 healers heal only melee, and occasionally ranged. Ranged should be using HS/pots/Bandage and hold themselves up if they are hit by a orb(that should not happen a lot - 3-4 times in one fight is acceptable. NOT 3-4 on one person, but on raid overall). That will increase the DPS slightly as the melees will be able to dps the whole fight, instead of loosing 3-5k DPS(depends how many melees, we have 4-5) for the time they have to run out, wait for it to go away and run back in, and start hitting.
He kind of is a gear check. DPS is key. You can beat Gruul's much easier than this guy.
To help deal with the trash before VR, have your DPS warriors (you have those, right?) equip a shield and intervene your warlocks as you pull. Then they can go and dps.
This will help keep your warlocks alive - they are the most important element on those pulls, as nothing will wipe you faster than a loose demon spamming the raid with saw blades.
My guild just killed Gruul, and have our eyes on Void Reaver... just curious though, how much would you all suggest for Arcane Resist for the melee? The rangers shouldn't need any I believe...
For ranged, I find it is much easier to dodge specific orbs by circle strafing than running in/out. Sometimes it can be hard to tell where it's landing(Close to him, far back, in the middle), but it's very easy to tell where it's not going(left/right). Saves you a lot of running, and you can up your DPS significantly this way. Can be helpful if you are having DPS troubles.
It is very nice to farm this boss once a week for the Tier 5 Shoulders.
He drops 2 per death.
Guilds should also be using the DKP system by now to avoid discomfort between players on who gets the Tier 5 Shoulders.
Prefer Ranged over Melee during this fight due to pound if melee can get out of some of the pounds its not so bad but its hard to heal if you have to much melee DPS so go for ranged more
Is it just me, on Aszune, but we got arcane balls on dead ppl.
bugged? or just sheer back luck, cause we never had any problems killing Void Reaver, just after 2.2 came out, we have had this problem.
Wondering how it is on other servers
edit: changed his name back to Void Reaver, saw no use in using 'lootreaver' anyway
When not engaged, he looks likes hes riding a motorcycle xD
Ok seriously, what the hell is with the aggro on the Crystalcore Devastators? We find they keep randomly charging the raid, one-shotting healers and CC'ers. What possible strategy can you employ to stop all of your heals getting one-shotted or worse all your warlocks getting smashed so you have saw blades spam the raid?
hes easy but got tons of life
For those, who likes Void Reaver`s speech :)
This is the second boss in Tempest Keep. You do not need to kill Al'ar to reach him.
Healing the melee and tanks on this fight is easy; Shamans Chain Heal and Priests' Circle of Healing will keep all dps up with ease, even during poundings.
Every so often, an orb will fly out and target a member of the raid that is not a short range of Void Reaver. These orbs explode in about a 10 yard radius, do 6000ish damage, and have a lengthy silence. Simply avoid these orbs by staying at max range and moving when your preferred Raiding Mod of choice warns you.
Void Reaver has a hard enrage at 10 minutes, meaning he will run around and 1 shot your raid.
This fight is generally considered on par with Gruuls, and is widely regarded as the easiest 25 man boss after Gruul's Lair.
Has anyone else tried him since 2.3.2? We were trying him the other night and the orbs were being really weird acting. Like you move 50 yards away and you still take the dmg kinda thing.
he's immune to Mana Tap, too.
It pains me a bit to say this(warrior) but Tankadins are more than recommended for this fight, sice they can land a consecration and keep generating threat while they get thrown, avoiding the aggro reset on him.
Also should be noted that he has a pretty big meele range, i would suggest that you look for that safe spot into the inner circle, where you can dps and avoid the pounding at the same time.
here is his Quotes :
* "Alert! You are marked for Extermination!"
* "Alternative measure commencing..."
* "Calculating force parameters..."
* "Invasive lifeform no longer functional"
* "Extermination successful"
* "Threat neutralized"
* "Systems... shutting... d-o-w-n..."
As of patch 2.3, the visuals for Arcane Orb are bugged - the explosion and damage will occur about a second before you actually see the Orb fall from the sky, so make sure you move away from the area of impact as early as possible.
A very straightforward fight but still good practice for your raid. You can choose to fix everyone's positioning before the pull, or instruct people to wing it and just spread out intelligently - I like the latter approach because I think it's good training for future fights. On VR, all ranged players are essentially going to stand at around their max range from VR or the tanks, forming a large ring with the boss in the center. As a raider you should get in the habit of scanning that ring -- looking for big gaps in it where no one else is standing -- and moving toward those areas in between your cooldowns or if you've just been targeted with an orb. If everyone in the raid can organically adjust their positioning like this, you'll have a strong advantage as you move into more complex fights down the line.
There's a full
guide to Void Reaver here
. I'm not sure I would suggest doing him first because you need to clear so much trash for that -- raid time is usually better spent practicing new bosses instead of reclearing trash.
On a lighter note he does give the best motorcycle impression.
Appearently as of 2.4, he does not switch his target when he does Arcane Orbs, so it's not as easy to tell when you're targeted, if you're ranged.
As a feral druid, I tank this EXTREMELY well. Only because I can build threat much faster than warrior and paladins. This fight is a DPS race and more threat usually means more DPS so feral druids shine with this guy. After about 20% I usually end up tanking him the rest of the time
Three tier five shoulder tokens as of patch 2.4.
Had our first post 2.4 VR encounter today, and found him
harder than he was pre 2.4. It appears his
ability will now reduce threat by a much greater factor, we regularily had healers and melee oneshotted by the boss late in the fight even though we had two warrior prot tanks, a protpally and a beardruid "fighting for aggro". One enhancement shaman even got aggro from VR even fairly soon after having been killed. The were also occations where the tanks were hit by Knock Away and could keep tanking. There has most certainly been made changes to him outside of any orb-related issues. Omen v66581 does not currently report threat correctly in this fight and is worthless.
as of patch 2.4, this fight has changed slightly.
There is no longer an automatic way to determine who void reaver is targeting when he launches his orbs. You have to watch manually for the orbs to see where they are headed, since VR no longer targets someone when he launches one, nor is there any note in the combat log or emote.
In my guild, the healers were running into trouble between watching our tanks and melee health and watching for orbs. Instead, we had the melee, tanks and healers all run into melee range together (along with our spriest due to limited range on mind flay) and take all the poundings while our ranged dps had significantly more room to spread out and dodge orbs.
My raid is in the same boat.
this sorta change frustrates me.
You walk into TK you sheep the trash you kill the skull.
You make it to a boss.
You fight Alar. you kill him twice he dies.
You fight the Astromancer, don't be a bombtard, she dies.
You fight Void Reaver, and EVERY single thing you know about the fight has changed.
The list of "Ninja" changes to this encounter seem numerous and for every change a equally difficult bug exist.
at one point i while tanking i looked up to trace the orbs as they flew to the group. to my horror i saw 3 orbs air born at a single time. as my group retreated to the saftey of the outer ring a sudden unexpected explosion rocked their would be safe zone. note thier was no orb to see impact the zone, I suspect a few things could be possible.
1. Since VR no longer faces and targets people for the Orbs, conflicting animations occur during the orb's release in turn firing a "invisible" orb. this same thing may also allow him to fire multiple orbs at a single point in time.
2. Void Reaver is somehow now firing orbs under the surface of the encounters room. ( I say this because at one point in time i saw partial detonation in a group of healers that would have indicated the source of the explosion was under the surface of the games terrain.
So what do we do?
Well unless you can some how man handle a group to dodge multiple unseen bombs i think the best way to defeat this encounter would be to head to the bug forums and point out the now multiple flaws in this encounter.
no? not going to happen you say?
my second and probably most effective strategy would be to initiate a rotating raid group. and have the ranged DPS and healers to only stop when casting or DPSing. when not casting: run in a clockwise fashion winding up away from VR then back closer to him this seemed most effective in displacing the arcane orbs. however the enrage time became the issue after this.
I'm going to leave my email here for other raiders to message me with. I do this in hopes that a Raid leader in my similar position would be willing to discuss possible new tactics in order to defeat this recklessly "changed" encounter. Varia9@gmail.com
As of 2.4.1, the Arcane Orbs are bugged, not showing up in the combat log, he'snot turning around to fire them anymore (which was apparently done to fix a seperate bug) and in some cases, they're completely invisible. I'd leave off him until Blizz can fix this, especially as it broke 2 of the addons that made this fight cake.
Downed him tonight (2.4.1). No invisible orbs, no orbs under the ground, no other issues at all except that there is no announce. Still very easy as long as people pay attention.
It's helpful to increase your camera distance further than max using an addon such as
to avoid the orbs. There's also a script command you can use (google "increase camera distance WoW"
As melee you can avoid the damage of Pounding by just pressing space. You have to be off the ground when it normally strikes you. We killed Void Reaver yesterday with my guild and i managed it to sometimes avoid all three Pounding strikes.
Try this on your next raid.
150,000 HP? Wasn't it something like 4 million hp?
Ninjaing this from my own edits to WoWWiki:
If the ranged DPS/Healers are having issues with avoiding the orbs, especially since 2.4 now that the Combat Log no longer announces Arcane Orb, an alternate tactic is possible. We did this with 1 non-CoH Priest, 2 CoH Priests, 1 Resto Shaman, 2 Paladins and 1 Resto Druid, but it would've been easier with one more CoH-Priest or Resto Shaman. You also need at least 1, but preferebly 2, classes that have an easy time moving at range - we used 2 Hunters.
The basic idea is that everyone, except the Hunters, run to the middle and park themselves under Void Reaver. The Hunters will stay at range and proceed to avoid Orbs like normal, though not really caring much about their DPS. When the Pounding hits the group, all AoE healers take care of the group while the Paladins heal the tanks, tossing other people heals should it be needed. This makes the fight even simpler, assuming people make sure they move if a Tank gets knocked back and VR follows and that the Hunters/kiters don't get to close to melee, which will instantly lead to a wipe.
The pros of this method are quite obvious, DPS never has to move and can just continue nuking. Healers also don't risk going out of range of the tanks, which would be nasty. Cons are also obvious, everyone takes more damage (though not terribly hard to heal through, especially not if everyone brings their Violet Badge) and should an orb for any reason hit the raid it's pretty much an inevetible wipe.
We did this on our first kill, nobody was outgearing the encounter in any way (we killed Solarian the first time the day before, and Lurker downed three times).
after much thought and changes blizzard has "fixed" void reaver
they re-instituted the combat messages produced by his orbs, however the new combat messages DO NOT include target information
what this means is that a mod CAN tell you when he fires and orb, but it CAN NOT tell you at whom or where it will land
this is the way that it is implied blizzard intends to keep the fight after 2.4.2
A similar strategy is to zoom out farther than far. To increase the distance that you can zoom out, use the command
/console MaxCameraDistance x,
where x is a number between 1 and 50 (the default is 1).
Using this command (it was suggested in my raid that we use a value of 4), you can scroll out far enough that you can still see yourself and your surroundings, but you can also see the top of VR's head and can tell when there is an Arcane Orb headed in your direction.
After the fight, you can use the command again with x=1 to change the MaxCameraDistance variable to its default value.
Also, a note to resto druids doing this fight: the way our raid did this was to put one tree in the tank group and another tree in a melee group (in such a way that no group buffs would be sacrificed). Both trees stood under VR with the melee and resto shammies and healed from there. Pounding damage is easily healed up during Pounding cooldown. Just roll Lifebloom on the active tank and spam Lifebloom for raid heals in between refreshes.
In my raid last night we all agreed that, while VR isn't the walk in the park that it used to be, this is probably how the devs wanted us to do the fight. It involved a little relearning, but it's still easy.
You can actually have one of the off tanks intervene block the knock back on the MT if timed correctly.
You most certainly do
need to do anything to avoid the damage from pounding. No resistance gear, no moving out (and risking having orbs hit the melee and tanks), nothing like that.
The key here is to have the melee healers (ideally a pair of restoration shamans) standing in with the melee under the boss. They'll take damage from the pounding and thus slightly increase the strain on healing, but since they will not have to move away from orbs they can spam heal for the whole fight without worrying about movement and silences. As long as they can keep their mana up (it's a long fight, so use mana pots early and often), you shouldn't have to worry about any meleers dying. In the case of shamans, they can also very easily keep melee totems up, along with searing totems for a free ~25k extra damage per shaman.
Try it. I can guarantee that you won't regret it.
ive seen the orbs target totems from shamans, i placed my totems on the ground and during the duration of the fight got moved away from them and no one was near them for about 20 yards and an orb flew over to them and a hunte rsaw this and was like " WTF i just saw an orb go after the totems", i dont know if this is true but it seems like it happened, dont know if it is totally correct

No more loot reaver, i just fought him, without dbm or alarm working he is 100x harder. All healers and ranged dps now have to spend the whole time looking up and watching for orbs, so you will have to pay ALOT of attention to do this fight without dying. Now much harder than solarian, but still easy enough for near end-game.
He acts like he's on an inviable motor cycle before you pull him.
Last night we tried as suggested above, we had two groups stand at his feet. Both groups consisted of 3 melee, 1 tree & 1 CoH priest. Both priest equiped their
(average 560 resist poundings). While the first try we were mostly doing CoH & PoM, while the trees equipped
Idol of the Raven Goddess
On the second attempt (lost ranged and enraged on try one) we discovered that keeping a
Prayer of Healing
in the pipe allowed us mana regen time, excellent healing and only had to use CoH to top off.
Not having to dodge orbs and get silenced for 6 seconds was a much needed relief for this boss fight.
Trust me folks, while most guilds come in here thinking "time to get my tier 5 pads because he is just SO easy" he really isnt as easy as most think he is.
The truth with VR is you still need:
smart ranged dps and just good melee to beat enrage timer
decently geared tanks with good agro generation.
Now that Void Reaver no longer targets anyones he throws orbs at, and now that the initial orb throwage isnt recorded in the combat log, no add on can track where he throws orbs, thus making this fight alot harder.
This guy was orginally called "loot reaver" because the adds inside his room could be controlled and you could spam saw blade and loot reaver until he died due to a 0 second cooldown on saw blade. He was never called loot reaver due to the terms of his difficulty.
The claims of this guy being easier than HKM or even prince malchezzar are completely bogus.
And before anyone says "oh look a guy in a guild that is stuck on him" no, were 3/4 TK and 6/ 6 ssc.
basically what im saying is, DONT UNDER ESTIMATE VOID REAVER DUE TO HIS REPUTATION.
to maximize your DPS & help your healers a bit, use Cloak of Shadows whenever not on CD to avoid damage from Pounding.
Helps healers a lot and keeps you going.
fixed as of 2.4.3 despite no patch notes saying so...
Easiest Raid boss in TBC, all you need is 4 tanks, 7 good healers, and 14 dps that can do 600+ dps.
Oh yeah they (the ranged DPS and healers) need to have a brain to understand that a large arcane orb floating towards them is a bad thing. Enrages after 10 minutes, pretty much wipe after that unless you nuke him and hes only on about 5%.
As melee never never never run out of the pouding. Yes, you won't take damage from it. But, but if you get an Arcane Orb on you tanks and other melee dps will get hit too. And thats around 10 ppl = Much dmg.
So i wanna know does Deadly Boss Mod now work on this guy agian? if it does please tell me =(
Quick tip for anyone messing around since 3.0, if the entire raid tries to stand in melee to avoid the orbs, he will cast orbs in melee range, its pretty much unhealable if you are only running 5 healers :)
Most people don't realize that Void Reaver is actually voiced by Tay Zonday.
Ok, no one mentioned if he was immune to Engineers with a Gnomish Remote? I'm assuming so, is he really? Has anyone here tried to slow him down with such?
Easily killed by 5players with Naxx25 gear at 80.
Just bring one tank, one healer and three dps's and you can manage both the annoying trash and Void Reaver himself.
First defeated by Nihilum of Magtheridon on the 11th of March, 2007.
Just did this with 3 in the raid. We had a prot pally tanking, a feral dps, and a random rogue alt running around dodging the arcane orbs but otherwise not contributing anything. I just salved the feral after the punt and he just switched to bear and took a few hits before aggro switched back to me. We had 45 seconds remaining before enrage when he died.
Tried to solo this guy on my 85 hunter in blues and greens, as BM spec with a level 85 spirit beast. Got him down to 400k before he berserked.
Not being able to sting him is a
drawback - that, combined with the refreshing component of Cobra Shot, would probably have killed him.
Outside of berserk he hits fairly weak on a level 85 pet. Though it's not exactly self-sufficient, I barely had to heal my pet at all.
I am going to retry with better gear or a more dps-heavy spec and see if I can down him.
Now available as your own personal companion.
Solo'd as BM hunter in all blues and 1 epic, iLvL 338.
Used a spirit beast(Ghostcrawler), used no heals, because spirit mend worked perfectly.
Same tactics as Alteir, running in circles with fox on, the tricky part was to move the pet so that I wouldnt be stuck running in the semi-circle, getting hit by the orbs.
Otherwise, easy fight, I was running recount:
Cobra shot: 50.3%
Arcane shot: 39.8%
Pet accounted for 47% of the damage.
P.S. Killed him 9 seconds before enrage timer, on the second try( first try was wiith core hound).
Solo'd as a Survival hunter. Ilvl 328, lvl 333 gun, 33 sec before enrage. I could have downed him sooner if i had stopped for 0.5 sec every 1.5 sec to fire auto-shot. Barely needed to heal my turtle.
Easy enough to take down with an 85 rogue, managed fine in the basic combat spec with reinforced leather, imp recuperate, quickening, and heroic gear.
No poisons prolongs the fight, so it's mostly about keeping your buffs up and cycling cooldowns. Throw your free gcds into glyphed feints and bring some arcane resistance from forgotten kings or a flask.
Had 2 minuets to spare on the enrage and never got too low on health with only moderate preparation.
Easy solo for a surv hunter (standard raid spec), just strafe with aspect of the fox on to dps and feign when your pet loses aggro. I stopped to let my auto shots go off for extra dps and that made me take orbs to the face a couple times, but next patch with auto shot on the move this fight will be even easier.
You can go BM with a spirit beast for the self heal if you for some reason can't stop eating orbs, but you should be able to avoid all the damage in this fight without a problem.
Edit: I recommend survival as you do wayyyy more dps than BM. Especially since you can't consistently auto shot, and auto shot is a bigger portion of BM's damage than Surv's.
Edit2: All of the above info was Cataclysm release patch. With 4.0.6 and subsequently 4.1, this is much easier, as your auto shots cast while you move and you don't have to stutter step every 2 seconds to let em go off. I would also recommend marks instead of survival, since it has higher single-target DPS
chimera shot to heal you. Marks was a joke of a spec in 4.0.3 so I didn't have that option.
85 DK here. Mostly quest/rep blues with a couple craftable epics and a nice heroic sword.
Used DPS gear as Blood Spec in Blood Presence.
Downed him in 8 mins, 33 secs. Not a difficult fight with the exception of the constant silence. Most of our abilities are magic based (bone shield, raise dead, IF, AMS, hell, just about everything), so I started the fight with Army of the Dead for a little boost. I then just ran in and death strike, heart strike, rune strike until the cows came home. Never was in danger of dying, but it's annoying as hell to not be able to use any abilities.
3 T5 shoulder tokens that I can't use. But 250 gold, so it's gravy.
Solo'd as an 85 Demo warlock (iLvL 348). Most annoying fight I have ever done... Because you are the only person in his room, he will constantly spam arcane balls at you. To avoid these, stand at max range of boss/pet and keep DoTs up. I would spam fel flame while running a circle around him to keep Immo up, just refreshing Corruption and BoD when necessary. If my pet got low, I would have to try to find a way to health funnel him back to safety.
Be careful with threat. During the times when I had to tank boss, I would cast meta (you can cast it while silenced) and run until shatter was off CD and I wasn't silenced.
This fight is really hit and miss, good luck!
Soloed as a 85 lvl subtlety rogue. Some tips here:
-use feint every time it's up to reduce aoe dmg
-keep recuperate up (obviously...)
-be aware of knockback
The boss itself is FULLY immuned to the poisons so keep it in mind and don't even try him as assasination rogue :).You need to clear the trash in order to reach him (sap engineer if you face difficulties)
Just solo'd Void Reaver as a MM Hunter (7/31/3) with a Turtle; 330 ilvl.
The first attempt I hit the enrage timer because I'm not all that well geared and I spent the entire time in Aspect of the Fox. The next attempt when a lot faster, as I decided to stand still and eat orbs while DPS'ing in Aspect of the Hawk until I hit 50% health, then I changed into Aspect of the Fox and started DPS'ing on the move until Chimera Shot healed me back to full health. Rinse, repeat for a quicker kill - the silence has no effect on you as a Hunter.
Soloed this quite easily on my 85 Survival Hunter using a Wolf pet, the boss itself is all about just running around in circles far away to avoid the orb damage while your pet does the tanking, just FD on high aggro and MD to your pet, also keep Mend Pet up.
The hard part was killing the trash in the room since they aggro when he's engaged, kill the mechanics and the blood elves first then the big robots, if you die the whole pack will respawn so it's important to focus one down at a time since your pet most likely won't keep aggro on all of them at once unless you're going BM and bringing a Worm or something like that.
Solo'd as a ret pally, just leave seal of insight on and eat the silence, don't kite and you will heal just a little more than he damages. It sucks to not be able to use a lot of abilities, but you get a few lucky split seconds if he does a arcane orb early before pound you can smash holy radiance for an extra bit of health, or a LoH in that time. It's a nice 250g, but an annoying boss for ret pallies
Seeminly impossible to solo as a Fury warrior. Similarly as Prot. Former, not enough healing from BT, BC and ER to make up for the Bomb and Boss dmg. Latter not enough dps and TC and DShout both tough to keep with the silences. Best attempt was 44% as Fury.
Soloed as an 85 blood DK. I did it in unholy spec for the extra healing from glyph of dark succor. I was able to get spells off once in a while when there was a break between arcane orbs. Otherwise you can try running through his legs and try to get some spells off.
Soloed as a ilvl 331 MM hunter today using a Gorilla. Relatively easy.
Quick note to all hunters out there. Contrary to what other hunters in here say, the Silence does effect us. We cannot swap stances nor cast Mend Pet when we're silenced.
At 85 you will inevitable resist a lot of the Arcane Orbs so it makes it a bit easier. I just stood there, fully unloading on him until my health got too low for comfort, ran around avoiding the Arcane Orbs while casting Arcane Shot and Chimera Shot until the silence was up and switched to Aspect of the Fox and continued DPS'ing him (Casting Chimera Shot whenever available) just avoiding his Arcane Orbs and using Feign Death when drops aggro. Once Chimera Shot healed me enough, I switched back to Aspect of the Hawk and stood in place and DPS'd him, repeating that strategy.
Be careful that you keep Mend Pet up because you cannot cast it when silenced.
To be honest, this fight was much easier than the trash in his room.
You need 5400 raid DPS to beat Void Reaver before the 10 minute enrage timer.
Keep that in mind if you wish to solo him, for ferals that do not have raid gear it will be hard in bear form as you will probably lack a bit dps to manage this fight, at least if you plan to go full Bear form during the whole fight. Maybe it would be wise to take extra damage and heal up with regeneration but to go cat form for bonus dps. That way you may manage, hybrid cat/bear. :)
Nice fight! As a BM hunter i used a tanking boar pet, and did not heal him once during the encounter. Tried to keep them (pet and boss) in the middle of the room, while i was running in a circle with VR in the centre. Keep aspect of the fox up so u dodge the incoming orbs and that's about it. He is immune to serpent sting, and u can get silenced as stated in previous posts.
And i got my token, which i came for =p
Easy soloable as a hunter
The trash is harder than him.
Solo'd as a level 85 Blood DK in iLevel 349 gear. The fight took 8 minutes and 45 seconds, and it was pretty close; would have been much easier if it wasnt for the constant silences.
Just solo'ed as an 85 retribution paladin with 348 item level. All DPS gear, Blessing of Kings for the arcane resist, Devotion Aura, and Seal of Insight. Commenter above expressed disbelief in SoI being enough to outrun the damage, so I'd be happy to explain. As with solo'ing Ebonroc, the key is the Sacred Shield talent.
Once every 30 secs (until 4.1), if you are below 30% health, you create a SS that absorbs X damage and increases healing received by 20% for 15 secs. At my gear level, this alone was ALMOST enough to keep me yo-yoing at about 30%. However, in time, Void Reaver overpowered me.
When I was close to dying, I built up three Holy Power. I cast Divine Shield to remove the silence. Then I cast Zealotry and Word of Glory. Within the eight second window of guaranteed no silences, I continued to Crusader Strike on cooldown and use the HP to cast WOG. With SS's amplified heals, this almost healed me up to full. Toss in Avenging Wrath and I could've amplified my heals further and filled in every third GCD with a Hammer of Wrath.
The silences are NEAR perpetual, but there are holes in it. I'm not calm enough to hold my HP for the gaps. I slowly started losing the SS struggle again, but with DS on CD. When this happened, I siezed a gap in silences for Lay on Hands. Then by time I needed a 3rd saving move, DS was off CD once again.
Patch 4.1 is going to make SS trigger half as often and institute a 20 sec CD on WOG. Hopefully by then, I'll have better gear as this strategy quickly begins to diintegrate.
I'm sure everyone who was around through BC is very well aware but the Loot Pinata is linked to his trash, so if you're going at him solo it'll all have to die first.
Got him down as a Prot paladin in dps gear. Buffs were Devotion Aura, Prismatic Elixir, Elixir of the Master, Blessing of Ancient Kings, Blessing of Might. Glyphed Focused Shield for a little extra damage. Seal was Seal of Insight, which was enough to fully keep me alive the whole fight. :) I just used my abilities and got him down without a sweat in 7 minutes. I used the tiny holes in the silence to occasionally pop AW or GOAK, but I could have done without. Gear was mostly 359 epics.
Soloed as a 319 MM Hunter with a turtle pet.
Something to note is that aspects are on a different GCD than your shots so you can dance between them when casting instant shots. I tried to get my focus to almost maximum, then switched to Hawk and drained it, then back to Fox.
Managed to down him with 1:30 left on the enrage timer.
Soloed as a TG Fury Warrior, ilvl 349. I had a full soloing spec since I'm currently working on KT. Blood Craze, Field Dressing, and Second Wind (not useful in this fight). Mending on both weapons. Keep Bloodthirst on CD and if you get a second between silences, try to toss up Demoralizing Shout. I Heroic Leaped out of 3 sec AoE when I could. It doesn't save a ton of damage but anything helps. I also got a couple ticks of a bandage off after Heroic Leap. Pop Rallying Cry + Enraged Regen when you get low. This takes a bit of timing since you can't use ER when silenced. Kill took 6 minutes and change.
This guy was pretty easy to solo as an 85 hunter in ZG/ZA gear, I just put on Aspect of the Fox and ran in circles around him while making sure to misdirect onto my turtle and refresh Mend Pet.
Easily soloable as a lvl85 feral tank. My health never got below 50% and I downed him in well within his enrage timer.
I did enchant my bracers with
just in case it was needed. Together with
I had a total of 167 arcane resist; apparently more than enough...
Impossible as a shadow priest. He's immune to DP and VT so the only dot you can have on him is SW:P. By the time you mind blast or mind flay you get silenced constantly.
The only reason people run TK now is for mount and usually everyone leaves right after Kael. I want my pretty wings :(
Extremely easy to solo as a hunter, tank and spank and move away from bombs to cast mend pet a few times. I'd imagine this would be easily doable by any non-caster.
Just solo'd him and he dropped 3 shoulder tokens and 1epic so im guessing he always drops 3 item tokens and 1 thing from his loot list
Just solo'd him as an 85 Fury Warrior (ilevel 372) ^^. Tried him first time just going plain into it and tried moderately dodging the orbs (no drums of kings, whoops). The hits were still doing roughly 5K to me every hit so they can add up fast. Got him just about to 2M HP from 3M+ before he knocked me to the floor.
Decided to swap enchants from my Season 9 2H axe from Windwalker to mending temporarily for this fight since it's a backup weapon for me now. Figuring the little healing boost could help counteract the deluge of ~1-2k hits this guy would keep doing. Sure enough, while he was wearing me down, I was also doing the same to him and it ended up as who could live longest.
Heads up, since you're silenced you can't use Commanding Shout but you can still pop regeneration. Did it at ~50%, healed to full, used a mythical pot around ~10% - critted thankfully, used rengeneration again around 15% and that brought me up enough to finish him off with maybe ~20% of my health left. Not a stomping victory but cut it fairly close. Just keep your healing up along with damage and you should be fine. Didn't try Titan's Grip with dual mending but that could probably work well too aside from maybe hitting the enrage timer. Not sure if I did but don't think so. Had maybe a ~7-8 min fight.
Had him to about 40% on my Enhance Sham (~377iLvl).
MW5 was up pretty much all the time, but I just couldn't use it, that damn silence.
Can't use wolves/SR either because they are 'spells'.
Stoneclaw/healing stream glyphs are what even made me last that long.
Couldn't cast ghost wolf either to get out of range... yargh!
Ended up kiting him in circles, did not get silenced nearly as often, while still whacking at him on the run, his knockback is beneficial to get a heal in. Finished him with about 10% left.
Solo'd as a Surv Hunter w/ turtle pet, Aspect of the Fox doing 13k DPS according to recount. Was fairly simple, just make sure to keep moving and MDing. If you get aggro FD will reset it and you can get right back up and start DPSing.
solo'd as an elemental shaman with DS Ready gear and standard talents. This is truelly one of the hardest fights ever to solo as a caster and I had ~15 seconds left on the enrage timer.
Make sure you have Blessing of Forgotten Kings with you! A druid putting up a Mark of the Wild buff at the start of the entrance will help (I did not had this). This will make sure that you have resists of the Arcane Orbs and will allow you to heal up (one GHW). During the Pounding, he also does not cast an Arcane Orb, so if you are lucky, you can have 2 heals. Glyph of Stoneskin is mandatory for this boss.
I started out with everything, heroism and elementals. Shortly after a while, I got the Knock Back and the Fire Elemental took over the tanking. This allowed me to move with Spiritwalker's Grace, healing me up and nuke down Void Reaver. After the elementals were down, I started kiting him, putting up Stoneskin totem when it was off cooldown and using Searing Totem. Flame Shock and Thunderstorm when there was a resist. When I was under 50% health, I healed myself up. This was a very long, stressful part. I killed him with 6% health left.
@Kalyssa, sorry, he dropped the T5 shoulder tokens for priest.
Edit: if you have a (spare) cloak, you can also use Superior Arcane Resistance enchant on it for +20 Arcane Resistance.
Prot Pally solo strategy:
Step 1: Seal of Insight
Step 2: ...
Step 3: Profit!
So, 4th week on a row I kill this guy to get the token for the hunter shoulder piece, and it drops the other two. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
My (narrated) YouTube video guide for soloing Void Reaver as a hunter:
Comments here or there are welcome, upvotes here are especially appreciated if the video is helpful to you. Thanks!
Edit: Grammar nitpicking.
Just solod as a 395 sub rogue.
all pvp gear pretty much
the trash is more annoying than reaver himself.
to make things easier on yourself if youre attempting a solo, be sure to take down the engineers (tempest-smith) first. If youre a rogue sap them before each group pull, any cc will work if ur another class. if melee just target them first and take em down. They perform an ability called (overcharge) that basically heals the mobs. So take them down first, much easier.
as far as reaver goes, the aoe is the hardest thing bout him.
if youre a rogue use feint whenever its up and cloak when its up, keep recup up. simply go back and forth with recup and feint. Use evasion and combat readiness whenever its off cd..and youll simply outlast him.
as other rogues have mentioned hes entirely immune to poisons so the fight is longer than it normally would be.
never went under 125k health from 147
It would seem that since Cataclysm, he has messed up textures.
Hope that Blizzard notices it and fixes it.
Solo'd this today as a Demo lock. Basicly, had my felguard tank the boss while I ran in circles avoiding the spheres casting my dots and Fel Flame. Took 5 and a half minutes.
I solo this as an enhancement shaman. It's a pain to get it down, but once you do it should be fairly easy to one shot every week. Stoneclaw Totem Glyph is absolutely mandatory and it needs to be on cooldown at all times.
You usually can't use shocks unless you get lucky and he punts you away from an orb and then immediately begins pounding. Strafing helps the probability of getting lucky and missing an orb.
if you are gonna solo him as a rogue make sure u have the leather specialation talent the that gives 50% more armor and improved recuperate as u wont survive his dmg otherwise with him being immune to posions (less dps expecally since master posioner)
Soloing this fight as a Ret Paladin is a LOT harder than you think. If you see this comment as a caster, know that this fight is impossible to solo for you.
Firstly, Void Reaver does a lot of damage. You will see your health dropping pretty quickly compared to the other bosses (except Solarian, who does a %^&* ton more) His Pounding ability is channeled and does a little more damage, but is nothing to worry about.
The hard part about this boss for a Ret Paladin is his Arcane Orb, which silences you for 5 secs.
This may not seem big, but he launches this attack
every 5 secs.
This means pretty much 80% of the time you will not be able to use Word of Glory, Avenging Wrath, Flash of Light, Exorcism, or Hammer of Wrath even when played correctly.
It is very hard to out range the orb, the only way to out range it is by getting the Long Arm of the Law speed boost from Judgement. This is very hard to do since the Void Reaver is constantly moving faster than you, so most of the time you cannot get in range for the speed boost.
Whenever the Void Reaver stops in place to attack you, you have about a half second window of Long Arm of the Law boost. When you dodge the Orb, you have 5 secs to get a few spells off. If all else fails, use Divine Shield to give yourself some breathing space (not Lay on Hands, you can't use that while silenced).
Good luck. :)
Lol Its Funny as When viewed in 3D you can Make him dance (Exercise) and its exactly like XT's. Wel that tells me I found the Model for the Both of them. Funny.
This guy has 4.0 million health now (5.0.4)
Easy solo as a 90 retadin. Run in a big circle around his room,
(hold down D the whole time.) His hitbox is big enough that you can run sideways, facing perpendicular to him, and still hit him with your abilities. This + pursuit of justice should get you out of orb range in time. Try to keep up 2 HP min for the extra speed boost. I haven't tried it w/out PoJ, but I suspect it'd be a good bit harder.
If you want to solo Void Reaver as a spellcaster. I would recommend to do Kael'thas Sunstrider first to obtain
. It's buff works on Void Reaver also so you won't get silenced! Instant win ;)
A video guide on how to solo Void Reaver in The Eye - Tempest Keep.
Easily soloable at 90 for non-casters, casters are going to have trouble with being silenced all the time unless they can get enough distance to avoid the orbs.
Non-casters just stand still and nuke him down, be aware that some of your abilities (those classed as spells) will be locked out by the silence.
of 476 Itemlevel looking to Solo this for one of the best looking Tiers for Warlock in the game i approached this boss nervously from all the comments about ranged/spellcasters having problems.
I found this boss very easy to Solo with a
i can cast whilst moving
. I stacked up on Demonic Fury on the packs before and popped trinkets / cooldowns when i pulled the boss, dotted up and went into Meta and ran in a circle around the boss spamming instant shadow bolt he went down very quickly.
This is for the Warlocks farming Tier 5 set and i hoped its helped in some way!
Was able to solo him as an Elemental Shaman in ilevel 476 gear, took roughly 5 minutes of dropping Searing Totem and Healing Stream totem and running in a straight line back and forth across the room while refreshing totems and Flame Shock when possible. Running in a straight line allows you to avoid the orbs fairly easily and keeping Ghost Wolf up makes it easier.
Solo'd as i473 shadow priest. For us, it's a sloooow kite fight. You'll
body and soul speed talent--FDCL or Mindbender offer much needed instants, but SW:I is too tricky for this fight with narrow cast windows.
Open up with VT+SW:P+Fiend+aoe talent, you need all the dmg you can get in beginning, shad. orb spells are useless here. Start kiting the boss around, every so often he will kick you away or neglect to spam his silence orb quickly enough, this is when you shield to get speed buff-- SW:P/FDCL-MS or MBender as you run, stop and VT, then MB if you can. Rinse and Repeat. This will take while, eventually you'll just SW:P+SW:D+any available instant. Only had to cast Renew once to stay comfortable. Got my pretty, oh so pretty, shoulders first kill! ヾ(＠⌒ー⌒＠)ノ
took a small hit in terms of yards in Patch 5.3.
encounter, the radius for
has been reduced to 15 yards, down from 20 yards.
Easy as a lvl90 frostmage with ilvl488. Let Water Elemental do the pull, nuke boss as hard as you can (MIrror Images, Icy Veins, Time Warp, trinkets, etc) until you get hit with an Arcane Orb. Then start kiting the boss. Eventually you'll be able to stay ahead of Arcane Orbs just long enough to be able to cast a spell (the boss kicking you away every now and then helps :). First cast Blink to get away from any Arcane Orb that's on its way to you, then - in order of priority - resummon Water Elemental in case it got aggro and died to Pound, then refresh Ice Barrier if needed, and lastly cast Frost Bomb. If you have any time left before getting silenced again, throw out some instant cast (procced Ice Lance or Frostfire Bolt if you're lucky :).
Most of the time I could get off Blink, Ice Barrier if needed and Frost Bomb each time the debuff wore off. Took me 6m33s this way, kind of fun to do actually, though not hard by any means. Had almost full health when the boss died and Water Elemental died only once when it got aggro (which did give me a nice opportunity to land some extra damage).
In Patch 5.3 Void Reaver now also drops
Tiny Fel Engine Key
, a miniature version pet of itself.
Fairly simple to solo as a mage, without using the legendary staff from Kael'thas (completely forgot about it and left the instance to empty bags before going VR).
Used Frost spec, keeping my Water Elemental over to the side (not sure if necessary) and opening with a full nuke, which left him at about 80% before he used the first silence. once I was silenced, I kept running around trying to outrun the silence, occasionally succeeding when he was busy using Pound or knocking me away. Used Nether Tempest and Frozen Orb for most of these moments of spellcasting, occasionally using it to renew my Ice Barrier. Eventually, he went to attack my Water Elemental, who had been slowing withering his health away, when he did, I stopped for some proper DPSing. Still had to run from the silence, but with him being further away, I was able to stop for a few moments in between each one.
Keep doing this, and he'll eventually die
As a Rogue, just keep Recuperate up and you win.
As a caster his silence can be annoying, but can be avoided completely if you do him right after Kael'Thas, keeping
equipped and activated, making you immune to silence. You need to be quick about it as the staff goes away 15 mins after being picked up (I ran past all the trash and then went invisible, just clearing his room).
This makes it a lot easier than dealing with the silence as you can just stand there and cast.
To all you Rogues out there, this
one of those encounters where ignored trash does
The entire room will aggro if you attempt to kill the boss, and stacking bleeds will ruin your day long before you can AoE them all down.
To anyone with multiple accounts, this fight is a piece of cake. Get your second account up with a character of any class of about 80-90 - they are the dummy, the target for the silences. Pull VR with it and then ... just sit there at range.
Now with your main account, proceed to whip VR a new butt cheek in melee range, quite a way from your dummy character. As long as your dummy survives the ranged silence attacks, you win!
I performed this on a 495 Shadowpriest as main in melee range with an old retired 85 prot paladin as dummy sitting at long range.
Hell you dont even have to move the dummy character, just keep it at long range to VR and use your main character to melt face in melee.
Demo Lock Solo - ilvl 472
Soul Link + Kil'jaeden's Cunning
Kite, kite, kite!
Without the talent's listed above, I'm sure it would have been a very long fight, with questionable survival. Soul link is optional, but definitely a preference. Kil'jaeden's Cunning however, is pretty mandatory. You'll dodge most of the silence as your minion pounds away and enough movement freedom to cast whatever spells you feel like casting.
Tried to solo with level 85 Unholy Death Knight, but failed miserably because of being permanently silenced. Went and switched to Runeforging: Rune of Spellshattering (Reduces duration of silence effect by 50%), and it was easy. Got
on first try :)
Soloed him today as a lvl 90 Prot warrior though it felt as if it were a "just barely" win. If I didn't have Impending Victory ability I'm sure I wouldn't have succeeded. Itl 470 btw. No raid gear. I just spammed everything from Devastate, Shield Slam, Thunder Clap (when I wasn't silenced) Heroic Strike, Revenge. But in the end, he didn't drop anything I wanted.
Soloable as an Elemental Shaman.
Make sure to constantly be strafing around the room during the fight and you should avoid most if not all of the Arcane Orbs.
You will basically only be using instant spells and Lightning Bolt. Keep Flame Shock on him, Lava Burst whenever Lava Surge procs, Earth Shock whenever you have a full stack of Lightning Shield and otherwise, keep casting Lightning Bolt. Glyph of Flame Shock can keep you healed if you need it.
Super easy kill on 90 elemental shaman. Destroy all trash first. if you aggro the reaver while doing trash, run out to reset, then go finish trash. While battleing the reaver, it's very simple. drop your earth elemental and searing totems right before engaging. start the encounter with flame shock, then just semi-strafe circles casting lightning bolt repeatedly, and the free instant lava burst when it procs. when flame shock runs out just hit it again to keep up on the free lava bursts when available. never silenced, guaranteed win. unless you can't get the concept of moving while casting....
I did this as my lv90 mage in timeless isle gear. Problem with mage being while other casters have pets to keep aggro, mages need other methods.
Thankfully, by this point of gear level and the nerfs done to the reaver its pretty simple, it just takes a bit of time.
I was frost for this one, make sure that you have the glyph of water elemental for this right, and create a macro for Icy veins, mirror image, and take blazing speed talent from tier 15, and living bomb talent from tier 75.
Engage the reaver and right away drop your mirror image and icy veins combo, the reaver will target the images while you move, and keep moving so you begin to kite the reaver around the outer ring of the room. Odd are he will catch up to you, so when you can keep using blink and blazing speed. He doesn't do much damage to you, but his silent bombs are the things your trying to keep ahead of.
Make sure you keep using living bomb on him, your water elemental will damage him as you kite. I found myself in a position I couldn't outright his bombs for a long period, but the pet kept doing damage, you must keep moving, and any second you can use blazing speed or blink use it while running around.
If your mirror image/icy veins combo resets in the fight, use it right away, and hopefully it will aggro the reaver enough to get some distance from his bombs.
Keep this up, laying on the living bombs on him, and you should get it done.
Easily soloable as a Balance Druid in 500 - 525 ilvl gear, despite the silence heavy core ability.
1. Clear the trash
2. Kite the boss around the room, keeping moonfire ticking at all times through a quick jump rotation to face him.
3. When instant cast Starsurge is available use it.
4. It shouldn't be needed, but can cast rejuvenation to keep health up
It should only take a few minutes to kill the boss.
Easy solo for any class level 90. Just dodge the static balls of silence.
Not fun, but soloed as Arcane mage, just kited him in a circle. Kept Nether Tempest up, used Ice Floes for Arcane Blast and just used Arcane Barrage if I couldn't get Ice Floes up for Arcane Missiles. Mirror Image gets him to stand still a bit but still you need to watch for the silence.
Using Alter Time while he's standing still is a good idea, getting booted back to a spot where there's no silence and getting a chance to get out a cast without Ice Floes. I used Blink on cooldown to get a little ahead of him and pop out of the silence while he was busy with Mirror Image, too
Took a little while, and it wasn't very fun, but it's doable. I'd imagine most who can withstand his hits long enough could get him down just by kiting with an instant DoT spell as long as you keep up with refreshing it and keep running.
(Edit: As a side note, that was a poorly geared 90 Arcane mage, I meant to mention.)
Here is a handy video guide with all pets and mount drops from this raid!
