Mana Tap – Drains 1455 mana.
Summon Nether Wraith – Summons 3-4 Nether Wraiths that cast Arcane Bolts for 1300-1700 Arcane Damage. Nether explosion is another skill they cast but may be bugged at the moment it does not seem to do anything.
Domination – Mind Control that can not be removed.
AoE Silence – Mid-range AoE that Silences for 3 seconds.
Our tank gets a break with Pathaleon, the only job is in fact to tank, however the rest of the party will have much more trouble. His Mana Tap looks to have range on it and may be avoidable, but assuming it is not our healers should keep a close eye on their mana bars. As for Pathaleon’s Domination we deal with it like any other mind control that can not be removed, polymorph or a fear to keep that player in check.
The major part of this fight is dealing with his Nether Wraiths, if ignored they will tear up the party quickly. Dps classes should focus fire on the Nether Wraiths and take them down as soon as possible then focus back on Pathaleon, the Wraiths are also affected by fear.
NOTE: There are a few pulls after Nethermancer Sepethrea in order to clear to Pathaleon. You will notice that every pull begins with 4 mobs and, after that, a mechanical mob spawns from those following with 3-4 MORE humanoid mobs all in one pull without any rest. Worst of all, the last boss (Pathaleon) pulls INSTANTLY after the last pull. This may be a bug but it caught my group off guard and wiped us.
Pathaleon has pretty low HP and armor and is rather easy if your group is organized.
Simply put the ranged DPS as far away from the tank as possible to avoid the silence, kill the nether wraiths that spawn (4 at a time) before anything else, and then continue to attack Pathaleon.
The hardest part about this boss are the pulls up to him.
if you have a mage, then on the last wave sheep one of the guys with fire shield, and spellsteal it right before the mob dies. Makes the encounter trivial, one fireshield tick plus a aoe or two gets ride of all the adds.
This is a very easy boss if you fight it the right way.We did 3 tries to kill him the first time we met him.1st and 2nd was with the strats above but it didnt worked.3rd try we decited to go 100% dps and tank to open shield wall after some seconds. Why to do that?
1st The adds that boss spawn are very hard to kill (3or4x9-10k HP with fast respawn time),so we have to minimase the loss of dps to the adds in everyway,
2nd The boss dps is very low so there are no great needs for healing,
3rd The boss has realy low HP (estimated 80-90k)
So the plan is:
4rth The boss will not cast lot of mana taps / mind controls because of the sort time of combat.
5th After Boss die the spawns despawn.
Send the Tank let it build some agro before nuking,After 4 Sunders do max damage to the boss and MT open Shield wall, when boss spawn the 1st (and hopefully the last) wave of adds MT use Challenging shout or a priest / lock / war aoe fear them so the whole party continue nuking the boss , till the fear end or challenging shout / shieldwall combo end the boss must be down.
Dont forget to keep max distance from the boss. The group we had was 1 Shammy (Resto) , 1 Mage (frost) , 1 Druid (feral) , 1 Lock (demonologist) , 1 War (Protection) and the encounter was more than easy.
I, the tank, Was mind controlled immediately upon pulling, Pathaleon the Calculator then summoned his adds.. The group was silenced and helpless so we wiped. Your kind of out of luck if the tank is Mc'd immediately. The door above the elevator proceeded to lock after that wipe so thats it folks.
Note: we wiped on the mob pull "wave" event leading up to it twice and were able to continue from the mob we wiped on, we actually got to pull Pathaleon with only doing one pull.
The best EVER tactic is this, if you have a shaman in your group:
Use Earth Elemental. It will take aggro of all adds and the boss. Spamheal it. Rest dps. It's that simple really.
After your epic battle with the Nethermancer, you'll see a long winding hallway ahead of you, guarded by four mobs.
As soon as you cross a certain point, the gauntlet event begins. MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY. Alternating waves of four mobs (engineer/physician/astromage/netherbinder mixes) and destroyer golems will gate in and attack. There is no break between waves.
You must keep pressing forward as you fight them off (we did this with a survival hunter trapping with frost and freeze, a warlock liberally fearing, and a druid offtanking as necessary). When you defeat the last group of four elves Pathaleon will teleport in and rush you. Again, you will have no rest so if you can regenerate beforehand that's optimal.
I've put this on the comment because he is not automatically in his room if you just run straight there. There is, however, an instance portal. This portal leads outside, so don't go in unless you're ready to leave or avoiding a wipe.
Had 3min30 before a server reset to kill this guy and after running straight in to the boss from a previous wipe we killed him in just over 2mins with time to loot and leave the instance to spare.
The only real trouble with the encounter is the spawning adds, but if you get the main guy down fast enough they don't have time to do much.
Heroicmode - Strategy:
As for all heroic modes you need 3 IMBA DPS.
We used this setup:
1 Healingpriest (me)
As for 19. February, the door will open again if you wipe in the event to reach the Calculator.
The event does neither restart so you can wipe your self in there.
Anyway, at the calculator, have the mage (if you have one) spellsteal the flamethingy from one of the bloodelfs before and let him nuke the adds down with that combined with aoe.
Its also wise to have them feared alot as they do alot of dmg(arcane).
The other dps stay at boss and nuke him down, he hits for about 500 on the mt so its no problem to keep the mt up. The problem is really the adds. If they are unfeared or live too long they will take out your dps eventually.
This is really a hard fight so having a ts channel is nice in coordinating the event.
This boss is really hard on heroic so a pickupteam is not adviced..
Also, he mindcontrols a random partymember from time to other, it cant be dispelled, lasts for about 7 seconds.
Took him down today with:
Mage took add duty and just kept taking down any adds the tank couldn't hold and Hunter and Shadow Priest stayed DPS'ing the boss. Get him down and do it quickly.
The adds he spawns CAN be ice trapped for you hunters out there. Any mind controlled people called out when it happened and a quick dispel or attack would take the effect off.
Best way to kill him in heroic is to fear bomb rotation the adds and DPS hard on Pathaleon. At 20% when he enrages the adds despawn and its GG hot loots inc
Finished Heroic Pathaleon today with:
Trapped, feared, and seduced the waves, trapping the last mob on each wave to heal and mana up. Netherbinders and Physicians die first. Let the tank get sunders on the mechanicals as they're non-tauntable and can one-shot clothies.
For the boss, we misdirectioned the tank and let the paladin consecrate the adds so dps and heals could focus without fearing for a while. Once the adds were grouped up, we rotated mass fear on the adds and burned Pathaleon down hard. Healthstones and potions really helped make this fight go smoothly.
Drops very nice loot. :3
this guy is in a few quests as you level, like the one in HFP where you need to kill a 63 elite giant, natural remedies i belive it was called.. he is also spotted when your trying to take over firewing point in tero, when doing "the final code"
If you wipe on either of the mob waves in the halls (there are 2 waves), the rest of the monster of that wave will be standing still at their own places, you can now easily kill the packs 1 by 1. If its on the 2nd wave, the boss will be standing still in hir lair after you kill the last pack.
So if you have a sucky group, send someone out there naked and ress him. No more waves!
The boss got very low health, atleast if you got decent dps. We had one rogue, one mage(me), one warlock, one priest and one warrior. The priest and the warlock chain aoe-feared the adds, and we simply nuked the boss. The adds will be able to throw their lightning every now and then, so heal and keep everyone up. At 20% all the adds despawn, and he goes into an enrage. The enrage should last for like 10 seconds or so, since it's just 28k health to kill. Took us 2 tries to get it right, but not very hard if you do it right.
Who he MCs is quite predictable: The closest person who is not the highest threat, just like Prince's enfeeble. Note that the one he ignores isn't the person who has aggro at the time, as you can have higher threat than the tank and not take aggro until 110% at melee, 130% at range. The tank can taunt a lot to keep his threat up so that he doesn't get MC'd, and the rest of the group can choose who gets MC'd by putting them closer than everyone else.
also easier in 2.1
just bring a lock for fear+enslave(small ones)+banish+SS+HS+seduce and mech heroic is a cakewalk
The information in the introduction is slightly incorrect.
The two waves for the "gauntlet" event come in numbers of 4 - 1 - 3, then 3 - 1 - 4. The last wave of 4 can be a challenge, even with well-geared characters in normal mode. Conserve mana until the group of four appears, and then use all the crowd-control you have (fear, polymorph, traps, seduction, etc.) Even the priests should take a break from their healing to drop a fear bomb.
Pull the second wave back so you are well away from the room where Pathaleon spawns. If you do, he will not aggro immediately, and you'll have time to restore your mana and health before going in.
One character may have trouble burning down all the little monsters that Pathaleon summons. It's a good idea to assign all damage-dealing characters to killing the summons, then going back to the boss when he's alone.
I'd just like to add, mind-numbing poison will increase the casting time of arcane explosion on heroic mode, which is helpful in interrupting the ability entirely.
Did Heroic today with 2Mages, Priest, Hunter and Feral Druid(me), could not bring this boss down due to insufficient dps
Tried both tanking all the adds and also fearing all the adds, but the MC became the wiping factor and ruined everything.
From my experience, either bring very very high dps to the group, or bring two classes that can rotate fear.
Heroic Pathaleon: Pally Aggro.
Okay, well, we were lacking on DPS, so our group took a somewhat different approach to downing Pathy.
Makeup: Resto Druid, Fire Mage, Feral Druid, Prot War, Holy Pally
As you can see, we had something of an excess in healing, but we were all Kara geared, to greater or lesser extent, so it wasn't too much of an issue, just made kills a little slow.
However, upon getting to Pathy, we just didnt have enough DPS to down his adds, as the mage would go OOM too fast. So, our paladin came up with an amazing idea: put on Righteous Fury (which he had imp with talents) and healtank the adds. He would heal himself, with a little HoT help from the druid, while the rest of the group DPS'd Pathy.
Although this sounds a little insane, it worked perfectly. The Pally pulled the adds the second they spawned with a large heal, then kept them out of the group's hair. No fears or AOE necessary.
This probably won't work with every group, but if you've got good enough gear, give it a shot, if only so you can brag to guildies about it.
Heroic Mode: You mostly just need to keep your wits about you. Our team consisted of:
Undergeared Prot Warrior
Now, the biggest problem for us is that he would often mind control me and on our first attempt (I'm the Ret) I would kill both the Enhance and the Fire Mage. Not so good. In addition, the adds' health is much greater than in normal, so you might not want to kill them as much as "wrangle" them around as you can. In addition, in a party with a fear it is probably much easier, so that there is an alternate strategy if you find yourself without a mage and instead with a Priest or Warlock. Other than that we sheeped DPS whenever they were mind controlled (it can be managed; 10 seconds of mind control is easily enough for many DPS characters to take at least one of their teammates down) and focused on the boss.
Enjoy your loots, we recieved Primal Nether, Abacus of Violent Odds, Vanquisher's Legs, and something else that I know got vendored...
He will only Mind control the second closest target so make it the weakest DPS stand 2nd closest
We tried Pathaleon with both of the main strategies, DPSing the adds down and DPSing Pathaleon himself. Our group consisted of a Prot Warrior (myself), Feral Druid, Combat Mace Rogue, Fire Mage, and Holy Priest. Plenty of DPS, and with any group of like composition the DPS burning Pathaleon is definitely the way to go. Have your warrior focus on holding aggro on the first wave of the adds that spawn and if your DPS output is enough you'll get Pathaleon down to his enrage (when he stops producing adds) with just a single wave (which happened for us). If you get two waves, don't forget in most groups with a warrior and/or priest you have at least two fears, and you shouldn't need a third assuming you can DPS quickly.
For holding all the adds I was wearing 3/4 Enchanted Adamantite (socketed for defense with arcane resistance kits attached) with the JC Arcane resist ring. I highly recommend this set for arcane tanking (especially this fight) because you don't give up a ton of defense (I'm not terribly well geared and still pulled down 205 Arcane resist and 510 defense).
The mats for these items aren't terrible (our small guild threw the whole set together before going in to Heroic Mech for our first time with mats we had in our banks).
Enchanted Adamantite Armor Set (Plate):
Or for you druids, Enchanted Clefthoof "Set" (Leather):
Arcane Resistance Armor Kit:
If you can get a tailor to make it for you, the Lower City cloak is nice also (we have a tailor just didn't think to gather the mats for it before setting out for Mech):
Bottom line: decent arcane gear, a tank competant enough to hold aggro on 4-7 targets (including the boss), and a fair amount of DPS, and you can down this guy with very little problems.
On a side note, the waves before Pathaleon are far easier to manage if you jump back down the elevator (pull the waves back to it) between waves, because the next wave will reset and take you out of combat, freeing you to drink etc. before you go back up and manage the next wave.
For heroic pathaleon:
Get a paladin tank for this fight, and it's easy.
When we do this boss, I run in and grab aggro, when his adds appear I use consecration and they immediately aggro on me. I just keep using consecration to keep those adds on me, and we just dps the boss down. Works everytime, it's even easier than the first boss on heroic!
So...was he a robot all along,
or was this a fake Pathaleon that you fight?
I would say Pathaleon in heroic Mech is probably the easiest fight. Our group make up .
Warlock put curse of tongue on Pathaleon so the warriors can have a better chance of interrupting Arcane Explosion. We also pull him to the narrow hallway so we can just keep his adds fear while we nuke him down fast.
He mind control the fury warrior which was ease because I can just taunt him without moving before he goes after the clothies and the warlocks fear him away.
our healer and 2 dps died when he went dow %30, just me and a fury warrior left.. Fearing adds, reck nessless and shield wall& last stand saved us.. Able to kill as 2 people at heroic mode. And the best part, sun eater dropped..
Does anyone know if the flame shield can be purged?
This is a pretty easy fight, I took a Moonkin, holy priest, warrior (tank), warlock, and a mage.
What we did is we let the adds come and had the tank just grab them all once we had about 9 adds our warlock started pulling them off me and to himself. Once he got them all to him he just feared and then we just dpsed the boss. By the time the adds got back we had got the boss down. Its a fun/easy fight basically tank and spank. We did it on Heroic.
the name of this npc is probably making reference to pantheon about the greek mythology and calculator probably because greeks were great mathematics
after wrath of the lich king he is easy like pie! cuz he is easy right now but that fuc(k)ing domination only works up to lvl 70 so when you can get to lvl 80 its gonna be easy:D
Flame Shield can be purged yes.
Anyways, i killed him with a group of 4.
Enhancement Shaman ( Me ) Protwarrior, Balance Druid and a frost mage.
(We kicked our healer cause he was such an !@#$%^&).
Anyways i took over on healing, although i was the best dps in group ;o. We killed him no problem ;) Didn't even have to heal that much ;o
Soloable as lvl 80 retadin
Extremely hard imo, took me 2 attempts and i finished with half life, no mana, pots on cd and divine shield on cd
This is nothing less than a DPS race
At the begining i used SoC, popped Avenging Wrath and Divine Plea,
spammed the usual offensive attacks,
when Avenging wrath faded i swapped to SoW to get my mana back up
Potted around 50%
Divine shield when he spawns his 3 adds, nuke them down and then go all out on Pathaleon
Quick fight but very mana intensive as he does mana tap
I cant stress how much this is a dps race... Nuke and ull succeed :)
Can anyone offer an explanation as to why he is holding that item that looks like a spinning cog on a stick in place of his weapon when he dies? I'll try and take a screenshot next time I go, but that's always bothered me about him.
Killed this guy as an 80 prot warrior. Used pretty much everything I had. Opened with charge, got devastates up, hit shield block + gnomish auto blocker to burst him, used shockwave on the wraiths followed by fear, then shield wall + last stand + enraged regen while they were nuking me and burned calculator to 20%, where I disarmed him and shield blocked through his 20% enrage. Finished with about 700hp, but got outland dungeon hero for it :P
Spec was 12/8/51 with impale, I'm in mostly blues with only 25k hp, no naxx gear.
Soloed on heroic as a level 80 feral druid tank. The hardest part of the fight was the trash beforehand. Use your cooldowns on these fights, as Pathaleon himself is easy. Use berserk on the multi-mob pulls and other cooldowns on the destroyers or when needed. The destroyers are probably the hardest; they have almost as much health as a boss and put out some pretty large damage. They can be stunned with bash, try to bash them while they use charged fist. Whenever a wave goes down, shift out and heal as fast and as much as you can in preparation for the next wave. Eventually, you should be at Pathaleon.
Patholeon will give you a little while to heal up beforehand, just make sure you have enough mana to switch into bear form. He does not mind control when soloing him, nor does he do much melee damage. He will summon adds though, these should be swiped or glyphed mauled down while spamming mangle and keeping up lacerate, FF, and demoraling roar on Pathaleon.
Easily soloed as a Blood DK Tank, I just lead in with AotD because I wanted him down fast, he MC'd me but it didn't last long enough for a reset. Just plain embarrassing the whole instance barely took me 20 mins. didn't pop anything other than AotD, not even runetap. Easy fight.
Also I am not sure, but him MC'ing me seemed to bug my zombies they seemed like they stayed for an inordinately long time.
Is this guy soloable at 80?
I went into Mech last night to solo this guy and finish off my Outland Dungeon achievement.
Lv 80 Hunter, gear mostly from Ulduar 10, with some Naxx 10 and 2 x T5 for the pet healing bonus. (Helm and Leggings).
, glyph of pet mending, serpent sting and steady shot.
Gorilla pet, specced as follows
I’m not saying it’s the best spec, but it’s what I ran with on the night.
Most of the trash on the first floor is skippable, although i did clear the way in and a path down the stairs just to work in and make life easier if I had to make a corpse run.
It took me around 30mins to go in and clear all 3 bosses on the 1st floor. All the fights were tank and spank, even Mechano-Lord. I killed him to the edge of the clear boxes, away from the trash and the bombs never came near me, my pet practically ignored them. The + - debuff, can be ignored as there is no-one else in the instance. Took one mana pot, just to keep the DPS up.
On the 2nd floor, these guys
are about the toughest guys in the instance and it takes a concentrated DPS cycle and keeping mend pet up to kill them before they kill your pet. Have a trap ready, so that if your pet dies, you may be able to trap them, res pet before it breaks and finish them off
It may be possible to interrupt the “charged fist” with the Gorilla’s pummel, or intimidation, I didn’t try this though.
The gauntlet was easier than i imagined it would be. The trash here does seem to hit a little less than some of the other groups on the bottom floor. Always keep a trap down, as strays are quite common and it keeps them off of your pet for a bit. I dragged out the kill of the final mob(s) with aspect of the viper on regening mana before I’d kill him off and take on the next wave. This worked well, for both sets of 3 mobs. I feigned death on the final 4 and let my pet die for a bit of breathing space before the boss.
Killing the last 4, there is a 20 sec or so gap before he comes for you. I just went for the nuke strategy, forgetting he does a MC and fear. He MC’d me twice for 8-10 secs each time, where I then DPS’d my pet. :P He lived through it both times though – just. My pet also took one fear, which was no problems. I just ignored any spawned adds. Took him down first shot although I would say just, pet was at about 20% health.
If I was giving it another shot, I’d spec more pet Arcane resist. Perhaps use traps (to trap myself if MC’d! Not sure if this works) and be more proactive on the use of mend pet to get through the MC’s. Perhaps a PvP trinket would have been helpful here to break out of it, although that’s less DPS.
This guy is Kael'thas' right-hand man and shows up whenever you're trying to thwart the prince's plans throughout Outland. Now, in the Mechanar, you get to fight him and once you kill him it turns out-- he's actually a robot! No wonder they call him the Calculator.
Spoilers man, come on xD
Just soloed as a level 80 BM specced hunter for the Kara attunement quest line. After reading some of the other comments, I expected it to be a tough fight, but it was really easy.
I used a pet tank spec - talent points were spent to maximize pet longevity. It's the same spec I use to farm ZG for the raptor mount. I used a level 77 turtle, although any tenacity pet probably would have been fine. I never had to use cower or shell shield (turtle special) as my pet never dropped below 10k health (he only has a little over 14k hp to start with). I was wearing pvp gear to maximize my own survivability in case any mobs wanted to take a few whacks at me.
I kept mend pet up all the time and refreshed it whenever it was down to the last 5 secs so it stayed up even when I was MC'd. I popped rapid fire right off the bat so that I would use it to dps the boss rather than using it against my pet when mind controlled, and I used my pvp trinket to get out of the first mind control.
The waves before Pathaleon are not bad either. When killing the groups, pick them off 1 by 1. Switch to AotV and kill the last mob while getting back to full mana and topping off the pet health. That way you are at full hp and mana for the next wave.
Easy soloable with 80 feral Druid
Solo'd with a 5.3k GS as a NE arms warrior and was able to finish out without a death. Bring potions and food, halfway through I stopped to cook more as I wasn't prepared to need that much for the 6 groups prior to Pathaleon. A hint: go slow if you're a night elf. You can shadowmeld and the mobs will run back to where they are out of aggro range which will give you a chance to eat up, wait for CD's on bladestorm/potions/trinkets.
You can skip the boss prior and still get the achievement as of this patch. Just stay to the right and you won't aggro her or the 4 blood elves standing in front of her. Good luck!
The last boss dropped a Primal Nether on Normal mode, even though the drop list shows it as only dropping in Heroic. As this was my first run I do not know if it drops every time or not.
For Kingdom Hearts Players-- The voice actor for this guy is Kirk Thornton, the same person who voices Saix (Nobody) and Isa (KH:BBS)
As compared to the yappiness he displays elsewhere, he's almost succinct here.
Pathaleon the Calculator yells: I prefer to be hands-on...
That's what she said.
Apparently if you are trying skip the mobs that spawn in that little event just before him, Pathaleon will not be there. You have to kill that final wave of Blood Elves for him to appear.
To look like this NPC (to the best of my ability), here is the link that gives the items needed to do so:
The quest popped up... AFTER I beat Pathaleon.
Thanks, A'dal. Thanks a lot.
sets dungeon mode to normal to run it again...
