They cast a buff on themselves that looks like red swirling winds around them. This can be stolen with Spellsteal and gives the mage a buff that deals damage every three seconds to surrounding units in a short range. It seemed to scale with my fire crit, but I'm not sure about my fire spell damage. Hits every three seconds, about 600 with crits for 900.
Confirmed that you can steal the fire aura, but be carefull if you are going to sheep any of the mobs, the aura will break sheep unless you do it from range.
These cannot be Mind Controlled.
Actually there are exactly 10.
Two before the elevator, two standing in the pack before the Nethermancer boss, two in the pack before the hallway event, and four total in the hallway event (2 per group of waves).
The aura does NOT benefit from spell damage if spellstolen, however the Heroic version does more damage than the Normal one. (roughly 600 damage on Normal, versus around 1200 damage on Heroic) It DOES appear to use your spell crit chance, and presumably spell hit chance.
There are a couple creative ways to leverage the buff. You could always stand in melee range of the mob and cast as usual, thereby increasing your DPS by a lot, but also threat. If you're lazy, you could stand in melee range and just wand, doing a non-insignificant amount of DPS without really doing anything. Just watch out for CC'd mobs nearby.
This is by far the best thing I've had all day, and almsot all instance bosses have been drops for me. I'm a lvl 70 hoyl priest and im enchant/tailor. if you're 360 or higher tailoring and want a quicker way to get ur tailoring up, this is definatly the way to go. Get this drop, it honestly dropped on the 1st one of these guys, ialmost punched myself in the face in excitement it turns yellow at 370, but im at 374 and started from 361. Trust me, you gain almsot all the muny u spend on mats back by selling the large pris depending on the server (Area 52) super
Guide to farming them:
I did so dualboxing a druid and a rogue, the latter with crafted/Kara epics and S1 weapons, for the druid the gear doesn´t really matter at all (but of course some +healing doesn´t hurt). Therefore this little guide is reflecting my experience with this setup, though you could probably do it with 2 rogues as well, or maybe even solo it if extraordinary geared, and I guess a resto/feral druid combo should also be possible.
Enter the instance on normal mode, and stealth through the doorway on the left, just watch out for the patrollers roaming there. With improved stealth talent (or probably "increase stealth"-boots) you can pass through without any troubles, if one of you doesn´t have it, just sap one of the two mobs in the doorway and run through on his side. Go further past Gyro-kill and head downstairs to the Cache of the Legion. In the corner back there you can safely unstealth and buff/eat/drink/dance.
The druid just stays there in the corner, whilst the rogue stealths to the Astromages standing besides the entrance to the elevator. The most tricky part now is to get them one by one without aggroing the Destroyer patrolling between them. Feel free to experiment and find a timing of your own, what worked for me was the following: when the destroyer moves away from the elevator, approach the closer astromage and stay in sap range. Once the destroyer turns around and comes back, sap the mage shortly before the destroyer has reached the mages position, than back up out of range and unstealth. When the destroyer is moving away again, pull the mage from the other side and run him back towards the corner.
At this point you should have about 30 sec left on the sap, which will break when the destroyer is furthest on his patrol route. Just keep Lifebloom and Rejuvenation on the rogue, and - depending on the dps you can pull out - burn your CDs to get the first mage down as fast as possible. Ideally the 2nd one comes running right after the first died and you take him down as well. Loot, get naked, die, reset instance, rinse repeat. I got mine on the 23rd reset.
Some additional tips:
- You´ll mostly be taking magical damage, CoS and stuns are your friends if it gets close.
- Use Fearie Fire for additional damage output and Mindnumbing Poison to make it easier interrupting their spells.
Made into traitors in the WoW TCG
Just wanted to confirm that this mob still drops the Major Fire Protection Potion recipe. I just got mine on Norm Mechanar.
