You will hear the zone wide message The Matriarch's vengeful shriek echoes across Zereth Mortis when rare becomes active
Fight several waves of adds and protect the 鹰母
噬灭者 spawns as a final rare

Right now the event can bug sometimes and cause a crash, hopefully this will be fixed on live servers.
You will be able to login after the event is finished.

The Engulfer rare is a part of 扎雷殁提斯冒险家 achievement.

I've come across this event twice now and failed it both times, confusingly the bird instantly despawns upon getting struck down with no yell, emote or anything at spawn or death.
The third time was the charm as the event popped again shortly after my second attempt at coming to the npcs rescure:

I killed The Engulfer today, solo, I just ran past at the right time as the event spawned, the bird still on full hp just as it engaged the first wave of mobs coming out of the rift.
I initially took aggro of the big gorger beating down on the bird as I engaged, and let it tank the rest while I killed the thing.
After the initial wave The Engulfer spawned to my surprise.
With the bird still at half-hp I couldn't heal it being neutral, but it didn't seem to take damage anymore anyway.
Slogging it out against The Engulfer proved easy in the end as I popped my cds and burned the nearly 300k hp in little time.
Honestly that first gorger appeared to hit harder than the rare elite in the end and I'm pretty confident it'll end the event pretty quick after spawning if no-one intervenes.
I think the common mistake here is the gorgers aoe attacks still hurt the bird if you fight with them being next to each other!
If you pull other mobs as you arrive or find the bird on low health you'll probably want to pop cds in order to live and in hopes of seeing the follow-up rare - as you'll be fine without cds against The Engulfer on its own anyway.

Don't allow the Matriarch to die or the Engulfer won't spawn.

Currently bugged in Aggra-EU. Matriarch comes and stays there for aprox 15 minutes before despawning, no adds come to be killed so event never starts.

Not withstanding the bugs below, it will be easier to join in a kill now with a recent patch note:

The Engulfer’s health now increases as more players engage it in combat.

I've been less than 10 seconds away when the POI appears and missed out because it only had 200k HP.

Still bugged as of today. Was standing right next to where the event starts while scanning balls for Frimin and nothing happened, despite showing a star on the map.

噬灭者 drops one of four new, awesome-looking plasma swords available in Zereth Mortis:
The lavender purple 心能虹吸之剑 (with supposedly an 8.17% drop rate, according to Wowhead).
I call it "plasma" because the "blade" ripples and moves like it's made of plasma -- a very cool animation!

The other three variants are:
The bright red 赛·拉兹的签名光剑, dropped by 贪婪者赛·拉兹 (supposedly a 5.35% drop rate, according to Wowhead),
The neon green 开悟植物学家的砍刀, dropped by 暴食的蔓生植物 (supposedly a 6.3% drop rate, according to Wowhead), and
The golden yellow 海鲁孔的光耀触尖, dropped by our favorite jellyfish, 海鲁孔 (supposedly a 10.06% drop rate, according to Wowhead).

There is also one other color variant (available in two different swords, so double the tiny chance to obtain the appearance - yay!) that is not obtained in Zereth Mortis:
The light blue 审讯者的盘剥之刃 and 重伤之刃, dropped by 佐·菲克斯 (the first boss!) in the dungeon 塔扎维什，帷纱集市 (drop chances are -*ahem* supposedly- 1.11% and 2.01%, respectively).
According to Wowhead -- Classes / specializations for whom these two swords can drop from 佐·菲克斯 are:
审讯者的盘剥之刃: Rogue (Outlaw) - Monk (Brewmaster / Windwalker) - Demon Hunter (Havoc / Vengeance)
重伤之刃: Paladin (Protection) - Warrior (Fury / Protection) - Death Knight (Frost)

The color variants available in Zereth Mortis are not bound by these class / spec restrictions; as long as your class can transmog it, you will automatically collect the appearance when you loot the swords. However, of course since they are not those absolutely lovely new, pink "Cosmetic" transmog gear (which are Bind on Account or even Bind on Equip - lovely!), these swords are Bind on Pickup / Soulbound and cannot be sent to another character. So if you want these swords, farm these rares on classes that can transmog swords -- my mage has collected ~~3 out of 4~~ all 4 of them! (Yay!) :D
