He is the second boss in Old Hillsbrad in the Caverns of Time. He comes once you get Thrall out of the keep and he comes with two adds (a warden and a veteran). You will have time to drink/eat when they talk.
Kill the warden as soon as possible as he can psychic scream. Crowd control can be difficult as Skarloc is a paladin and can cleanse. He has other paladin abilities such as holy light, hammer of justice, and holy shield.
He was a fairly easy fight. We wiped the first time on him due to some unfortunate luck. The 2nd try, we had Thrall tank Skarloc, our prot warrior tank the veteran, and we burned down the warden asap. After the warden, the veteran, then it was a simple tank / spank on the boss. Thrall had PLENTY of aggro so our dps could go all out the whole time.
Skarloc will heal and use Hammer of Justice often, which can be dispelled. As far as I know he can be interrupted in normal mode, never tried in Heroic.
In addition to all his normal mode abilities, in Heroic he will constantly Consecrate for 750 holy damage a second, thus it is important to keep him moving and to keep stun off the tank so they don't melt from being stuck in Consecration.
An interesting thing to note about Captain Skarloc is that he seems to always cleanse himself of Serpent Sting first before cleansing any CC on the 2 adds. On my hunter I kept max rank Serpent Sting up on him and immediately reapplied it as soon as he cleansed it and he continued to cleanse that off first letting us burn him down easily while ignoring the CC'd adds. Hopefully this helps someone out if he does the same on Heroic Mode.
Do the bosses drop Badges of Justice in Heroic? I don't see it listed in loot
Arent those for outland and IN outland?
This boss is encountered after freeing Thrall, then running a gauntlet of four nasty packs that Thrall charges into.
There are two main threats in the gauntlet.
First, it is simply difficult to control all the opponents running around. There is not enough time to get organized and assign crowd control. This must be improvised quickly. Note, however, that Thrall can take quite a beating, especially if he gets a few heals. He heals to full after every pull. So, he makes an excellent off-tank. Let Thrall take one opponent, control one or two (polymorph, etc.), and tank the rest. Paladin tanks can simply tank everything.
Second, each pack of the gauntlet has a mage. Aside from casting nasty, high-damage spells, the mage polymorphs someone that is not his main target. If this is the tank or the healer, it's a wipe. Ouch! Interrupt, stun, and silence the mage to prevent that. Call out the polymorph and dispel it instantly. Kill the mage first, even before the wardens (healers).
On Heroic, the boss himself has only one serious threat, and that's his Consecration. Not only is it nasty, but he can cast two of them at once. If several members of your party are in it, your healer can't keep them all up.
Simply put, the tank must keep moving around to stay out of consecration. If the tank stays still, everyone gets hit by double consecration, and everyone dies. Melee attackers must not wait for the tank, but move out of it on their own.
He reflects melee damage with Holy Shield. Attack only from behind, to avoid this. Melee attackers must watch their own health and run away when it gets low. They can bandage themselves or wait for a heal, then go back in.
He heals himself and his companions. The warden does, too. Interrupt the heals, and put Aimed Shot or Mortal Strike on the current kill target.
He stuns his main target with Hammer of Justice. This is a magic effect. Dispel it as quickly as possible, as the tank can't dodge, block, or parry attacks while stunned, and also can't move out of the Consecration.
In heroic mode, it's a good idea to off-tank the warden and perhaps the veteran, away from the Consecration and out of range of heal spells.
Pretty hard to kill... Comes when Thrall Escapes the castle. When hes at 10% he can heal so if u have a MM Hunter in ur group use Aimed Shot. He has 2-4 friends too... So Before figth begins remember to Eat/Drink Something. ((Thrall Steals his horse later o.O))
A reference to Captain Scarlet, for anyone who doesn't know who Captain Scarlet is:
(character) and if you don't get the reference say Skarloc's name quickly to the theme tune, you'll get the idea ;)
Did anyone else notice him talking with the Death Knight filter over his voice? Just the intro conversation before he attacks...
If you bypass the first guard on your way into Durnholde, Thrall will run out and attack it when you get close, triggering the script that brings in Skarloc. If you then take too long killing that guard like I did, Skarloc will start his monologue before Thrall announces the approach of a rider. Then, when you've killed Skarloc, Thrall will claim he sees a rider approaching, and will stand ready - preventing the event from continuing.
Soloed as 69 prot paladin, took lots of tries until I got lucky with crits and downed the adds fast enough.
Any idea what his armour is? Especially the boots.
Funny thing in my encounter.....he didn't heal himself
Has anyone else heard his voice echoing during his introductory lines, like the voices of the Infinite Dragonflight do? I heard it fairly often while I was first doing him, but on more recent runs (since 4.0.6), his voice sounds normal.
Captain Skarlock reminds me of Captain Harlock... though Harlock is so much cooler than this bald bastard.. :3
Honestly, I think the drop rate for The Boots of the Watchful Heart is like 1% and Tarren Mill Vitality Locket and Lucent Fire Opal is like 90% drop rate because i've done this heroic way everyday for the past week and never got the boots! >:(
The skeeviest boss in the game. "After I've had *my* fun"... I enjoy killing him.
There is no armor with the same color like on Captain Skarloc. But there is armor with another colors,
In the Caverns of Time you can do the Durnholde instance. When you enter the instance, talk to the humanoid Erozion, he will give you these Incendiary Bombs. If for any reason you lose them, go back to him and get more.
Each one of the buildings in the pit at Durnholde has a darker-brown barrel. Place one Incendiary Bomb on each. You will need to kill the guards to do this.
The fires they cause will call Lieutenant Drake.
Then go into the basement of the hold. The basement entrance is under the stairs up.
Free Thrall, and as you leave the gate Captain Skarloc will appear.
You must speak, right click, Thrall to get him to move out of the basement, and again to get him to leave Durnholde for Tarren Mill. Taretha is upstairs in the Inn, which you will reach after Thrall searches the barn, and the church. You must kill the mobs to get Thrall to move on. Click on Thrall to get to the next segment after he finds Taretha.
When you enter caverns of time (closest way is take *stormwind if you are alliance* portal to Uldum and then fly manually to Tanaris) to get to Old Hillsbrad Foothills enter through the section named The Escape from Durnholde
This guy has some hearing impairment. He is way louder than the average NPC dialog lol
