During this fight, you can expect several adds to spawn and target you, they continue to spawn.. I just pushed him fast before they overwhelmed me.

EDIT: The below tactic worked on my Arms Warrior. It may not not apply for all classes as the behaviour of the adds seems to be different from class to class.
The boss will frequently spawn 3 adds that remain fixed in place and that disappear after 1 minute. Instead of trying to kill them, it's better to simply run out of their cast range or get out of their line of sight.
There is plenty of room to maneuver around the adds. For example, you can start the fight on top of the stairs behind the boss, then move to the middle of the platform after the first set of adds spawn, then on the stairs leading down the platform, then under the stairs (LoS), then further away towards the hallway you came from. By this time, the adds on the platform should no longer be there and you can go back the other way.
Don't forget to interrupt Fearsome Howl!

The best strat that worked for me was to hide up the stairs behind the warden, where the other NPCs are trapped, and
let the npc companion fight the warden down
(for me it got the soul down to about 10%), then come out of hiding to finish the warden off.
Focus on warden, ignore spawn.
Hide out of sight of the spawns, as they
will
whittle you down.
I must be way under geared, as I died quite easily three times. Then, I remembered someone else's suggestion for a solution to a quest from a couple of years ago to let the companions fight the fight. Many thanks to that WOWheader, of whom I cannot remember the name.
(edit: P.s. Hate it all you want ... it worked.)

As an assassin rogue i had a very hard time with this fight - failed about 5-6 times. LET THE NPC'S fight the boss, i did clean up the adds, and used my self heal - fight was very easy then.

When you spend 50000000 years on a Torghast run that just ends in a stupid boss like this.
Lost all my lives to him, tried everything: focus boss, kill adds, run away from add range. Nothing worked.
Out of nowhere he does an instacast of his stupid Fearsome Howl that instakills me with 13k damage. Fun, very fun Blizzard.
The only time I almost killed him was with the Terragrue right in front of me.

I dont know if they hotfixed it or what but there was no NPCs to help me with this fight.
I tried doing what a lot of people suggested - starting up at the stairs behind him and getting out of range of the adds when they came. Im a warlock so it wasnt that bad to just gateway away from them but I failed 3 times trying to be cute this way. On my first attempt I noticed that I got him to like 30% before I tried getting away from the adds. So instead of being cute I just started the fight where he stood and killed him without doing anything special. I did however do 9.9K dps so IDK if other people can use this strat but ide say try it first.
TLDR; I couldnt beat him by avoiding adds. Killed him very easily just tank and spanking him. Good luck guys!
PS: Demo Warlock ilvl 169 with no legendary.

Tried this 3 times on a balance druid, it's just not doable at my ilvl. There was no NPC to help me, I don't know why people talk about an NPC.
Yes you can kite the boss away from the souls, but eventually you run out of room anyway. Also, kiting makes the fight last longer and eventually the boss gets 10 stacks from his circles (because even if you move it away quickly, it always manages to get 1 or 2 stacks), and you'll be backed to a corner around 30-40% and die.
I just feel like this wasn't tested.

Enhancement Shaman 161 ilvl, got lucky with anima and melted this dude in 20 seconds. I had 10% bloodlust haste buffX3, drop a random totem (my fav), earth ele had perma quake, another one with a high chance of 12k DOT, and a couple other rando dps ones I can't remember. Just face-spanked him. No NPCs for me either.
I was really sweating it too going in after reading these comments. Maybe they nerfed him?

Ok.. 60 Retadin here. Died several times from the leach from the adds. Finally started fight, hid up by the chained guys. First time, the npcs killed him and I didn't get credit. Next time, npcs got him down to about 20%, hit Divine Shield and charged throwing everything I had. It died, I almost died, and got credit for kill.

152ilvl (completely unoptimized)
BM Hunter
here:
No npc's or "stairs" available for me, as mentioned on previous stats.
I placed my pet on the edge of the platform and misdirected the boss to him.
I was always at max range from both the boss and the "Soul Fragments"(adds).
Every time the boss spawns a "Well of Souls", I moved the pet away from it but always on the edge, going around the platform.
I moved accordingly, to keep myself off range from "Soul Fragments".
Interrupt "Fearsome Howl"
At some point the damage from the boss was hard to keep but I barely managed it (He gains a dmg buff periodicaly)
This was tough but very rewarding!
I barely got any useful anima power so this can be even easier for some.
I hope it helped.
TL.DR: Use you pet to keep the boss on the edge of the platform and go around it.

I'm a 159 feral druid and this is what worked for me (on Layer 2 though)...
Using Curious Miasma (+~6,000 health when you attack a new target) and then attacking the ads when they popped up and I was in need of health.
Simultaneously, I put strong bleeds on the Warden of Souls.
I also did run out of range of the ads 3x. Whenever my health got dangerously low, I dashed down the way I came, just past their range. Then I healed, turned around, and did the same thing, so attacked the ads and put strong bleeds on the Warden.
It was difficult but I was able to get the kill.

ele shaman ilvl 156. Started with Earth and Storm elemental. When they are done, heroism, and shield from "Overflowing ember Mirror". And constantly kite him away from the mobs. Keep up vesper totem (needs good timing combined with kiting). Got him the third time. Hope it helps.

Just did this boss on Layer 2 on my ilvl 145 Feral Druid. The key for me was roots, kiting, bleeds, healing a lot, and I used Curious Miasma toward the end by attacking many of the adds to heal a TON. Took 3 attempts before I realized I could use Curious Miasma to win. Didn't use Bear Form on last attempt at all.
PS there was no NPC or stairs?

Just one shot his guy as solo BM Hunter with 172 ilvl. Used Night Fae Wild Spirits on first set of adds since all were within its radius then after that would just get out of range of adds cast until it broke then slowly get back in range. Save interrupt for boss' howl. Keep pet alive. Req using ferocity pet so can Hero at the start and zerg him down.

iLVL 160 prot pally (Onyxanvil/Duskwood) - killed easily on first try on 3rd Level. I'm nothing special, so here is how.
Interrupted Fearsome Howl each time, but nothing else.
I have the Kyrian covenant, so Divine Toll is my special ability, which helps to interrupt and burn down the adds. (anima power brought DT CD down to 40 sec).
I also had the anima power to cast DT on the start and end of Avenging Wrath, for more bang for buck against adds and boss.
I also had anima powers to increase Hammer of Wrath damage, and give it 3 charges, and this helped a lot to dps boss.
I just slowly pulled him back to stay out of his stationary aoe Well of Souls.
I focused on boss only, and let my aoe kill adds.
Fight took 1:47, and I did 2340 dps. Boss had 221K.
On the floor layout I had there were no NPCs, no stairs and LOS possibilities. Others may get different layouts, not sure.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck :)

You can outrange the adds. It is possible. They will even despawn. The boss will follow you all the way down the hallway to the exit door and then back to the end of the instance door. I drug him around with my feral druid, healing like mad and keeping dots on him. Ilevel 160. Just keep him moving and don't let the adds get close. I killed him with very little hp left.

I did this at ilvl 160 on my frost mage. My build was basically Time Warp focused with any shield upgrades possible. At the end I had a 3 minute Time Warp that gave me so much haste I was GCD capped. If you can, get the item that reduces cooldowns of skills by 1 second when hitting with a spell and use Alter Time as what can basically be summed up as Tracer's recall ability, giving you some healing advantage.
I died twice before killing the boss. I killed him by finally not focusing on kiting so much and using Alter Time as a way to keep my health up for tanking the boss. I used my Blizzard (which had radius buffs) for taking out the adds while I just focused on burning the boss. Spec included splitting ice, lone winter, Incanter's Flow, Chain Reaction, Thermal Void.
If you have the Poly Bomb item, he resists the poly at about stack 3, so hit him as it hits stack 3 if you want some extra initial damage.

Just killed the Warden, 14:00 Azjol Nerub. My ilvl was 131 and I’m an idiot.
So, here’s how I inexplicably mastered the Warden.
Kill and loot EVERYTHING, you get more phantasma. As you ascend, you get those random anima orbs…click n pic your Torghast buff. I stuck with stamina increase and ended up with 40k+ health.
When you get to the room where the Warden is, you should have 130-150 phantasma by this time. So, buy three blinding smoke capsules and one rejuvenating siphoned essences.
To start, run by the Warden and up the stairs behind him. Hide behind a pillar of choice trying hard not to let the adds get you in their line of sight. Next, pop a smoke capsule and stay out of sight, take rejuvenation essence when needed, then pop smoke capsule again. Let Prince Renethal take Warden down to about 30%. Now storm the battlefield! Pop every uber dps attack in your arsenal. As a demon hunter, use immolation aura, metamorphosis, eye beam, blade dance, etc. It’s vital that you interrupt fearsome howl…if not your toon gets feared for 8secs…say byebye to at least 30% of your health. It took a bit of maneuvering, ie remember your mantra…don’t stand in poo. The Warden drops stuff on the floor so avoid that too. I barely killed him with literally 240 health left.
REMEMBER…interrupt his fearsome howl, avoid the stuff on the ground, hide from adds as much as possible, stay on the move, let npc take/deal the majority of the damage.
Also remember, once in Torghsast, you cannot swap gear, tool bars, or specs. Prepare your toon
accordingly. I emphasized talents that afforded better mobility and damage mitigation. Plate classes should be viable even at ilvl 130+.
GOOD LUCK!

Ok, after 20 some odd attempts here's how I finally killed this as a 173 sub rogue. I had 20 anima powers, none all that great. Reduced Vial CD is a must, I only had one.
First, open on him and kite him to the back of the platform. Kindey shot when he starts Soul Fragment, and burn, then Cheap shot in Shadow Dance on the next cast. When his third Soul Frag cast goes off run to one of the circle sections of the platform, you will out range the frags. Continuing dpsing him there, kick his Fearsome Howl and Kidney shot soul frags. He will become immune to stuns around this time.
When his next Soul Frag goes off run to the opposite circle area. If positioned right you will out range the fragments, if not, burn as much as you can with cloak added when you drop below 50%, then run to the start of the bridge. You want him to get his next soul frag on, or near the circle area you were just at. Run to the first metal strip of the bridge you will out range the frags. The dr on stuns will be gone by now and you can freely stun his soul frag casting again.
Now it's a dps race. Stun what frag casts you can, kick the howls, when a frag cast goes off head towards the entrance to the room. The door way is your doom. I was at the door when I killed him.
If at anytime you mess up, vanish, he doesn't have shadow sight and he will reset, along with all your cooldowns. This is for the final boss room of Mort'regar layer 3.

I managed to solo this today as a 187 SP.
I chose the anima powers that boosted my crit & haste, and boosted my mind blast up to 40%. A shortened fade cooldown and spawning shades to distract the boss were essential.
I started up behind him, and popped cooldowns then started kiting him along the rim using psychic scream, silence, and psychic horror to interrupt his fear (I'm undead, so I had a freebie with WOTF to buy time for cooldowns). I kited him and his adds all the way around to the entrance where I came into level 6 at, where he finally dropped.

Probably one of the worst experiences
as a solo Feral (ilvl 171) on Layer 3 (last boss). Had to kite him and barely finished him off just because my
Convoke the Spirits
finished its second cooldown! Yeah, that's how long the fight lasted...
Just run away from the adds he spawns. There is absolutely no way you can kill him while they attack you. Don't even try to take them on, or try to nuke the boss while the adds are on you. Just run away or LoS and spam your heals.
I absolutely see no way some classes could solo him (i.e. Rogue).
Thankfully my run had overpowered skills. I also saw no NPCs around helping me, as some people say. I was entirely solo.
Yet another instance where Blizzard managed to entirely break the new Torghast mechanic.
Seriously, I am starting to HATE Torghast.

Seems like they fixed the outranging of the adds. I had him spawn on a very small platform with no LOS available, so I had to do it the intended way.
Boss is VERY overtuned, but I did manage to kill it on 183 Prot Pally. Prioritize adds. You can mostly ignore the pools on the ground, though keeping the adds out of it is nice. Save an interrupt for Fearsome Howl on the boss. FOCUS THE ADDS. They are what do 70% of the damage.
With the Holy Avenger's lego and Divine Toll, I had a ton of interrupts available which helped immensely. Still took me 3 tries because pool-buffed adds do an absolutely absurd amount of damage, and they move so slowly that it's difficult to keep them out of the pool.

Did it after countless failed attempts. coming as close as 2% on
Rogue Subtly ilvl139
(no optimization /flasks etc)
(This is part of the main questline of Revenderth)
How? you say.
By doing what rogues do best:
Hide.
Simply initiate the fight, by charging in or use your cunning shadow strike-
then run!
Sprint past this monstrosity and hide
behind the pillar. Out of sight of these adds that spawn
- or they'll suck you dry.
Let the NPC's do the work for you,
work smart - not hard
Once the Warden of Souls is at a health % you feel ready to take on, emerge and partake in his demise. (my courage returned at around 25%)
A kill is a kill. No one will know.
If you want to be a hero:
Kill all mobs on all floors including the rare.
Collect all anima powers.
Destroy all jars to get more plasma.
The plasma is used to buy items that can assist your battle.
Buy either more anima power (random generated) = 150 plasma or smoke bombs etc. Whatever you think your character lacks...
Once engaged with The Warde Souls:
Interrupt his howl.
Stay out of the green stuff.
Focus the adds (NPC will keep beast busy)
Keep to the edge, to prevent you from getting caught up in green stuff.
Use items purchased as necessary.
It's all about speed - kill as quick as you can - as the adds are the main problem
Have health potions at hand, bring flasks, or spend a small fortune in getting better gear.
Then go in swinging, and hope for the best!
After all this trouble, the result would be the same. A kill is a kill. Well done.

Completed this total nightmare of a boss in Twisting Corridors: Layer 8, Floor 18.
I am a ilvl 196 Fire Mage and was with a ilvl 201 Prot Pally.
The only way it was done was with the Anima Power:
"Bottled Enigma" - A cloud of obscuring mist surrounds you, preventing enemies from targeting into or out of the mist.
This mist works by stopping the add's from targeting you and damaging you as long as they
don't enter your mist
. If you let them enter your mist, they lock onto you again and you start taking ALOT of damage. The tank and I had to stand pretty much next to each other so that we both were covered by the mist, but just far enough away from the add's so they couldn't enter it. There was alot of slow walking backwards during this fight to keep us both at the right distance away from the add's at all times, while trying to dps the boss and interrupt his Howl.
We basically kited him around the map, moving the boss out of the green pools his drops on the ground and keeping us both in my mist. We ignored the add's and only dps'd them if we were getting too close to them and they were going to enter the mist. This only happened near the end as we had so many green pools on the ground it was insane and a heap of add's had spawned by then.
I also interrupted the bosses Howl every time he did it also. I had the Fire Juggler (Your Fire Blast launches your enemy into the air) anima power so that was extremely handy too.
It took a fair while and a lot of coordination but eventually we did it.
Just a note - we had gotten this boss the day before in Twisting Corridors on Layer 7, Floor 18 and couldn't kill him. We wiped the entire thing each time. I did NOT have the Bottled Enigma on that run which is why we wiped.
Bottled Enigma
- the only thing that saved us on this final run. Without it, I think I would of uninstalled WoW lol.

I got him down, as a Sub Rogue, on Layer 3, Floor 18 in Twisting Corridors, by kiting him a lot in a circle-ish movement, to try and gather the adds in a cluster and using all the platform.
- Stunning and interrupting quite a bit, to get some reprieve from the boss and his adds. It was no use killing the adds, even though I'd hoped that doing so would take a chunk out of some shared hp.
Even so I barely made it, with the boss having 3,4M hp and me at 187 ilvl and 32K dps in the end and my Cheat Death activating along the way.
So, yes, kiting is the answer it seems, although you may have to have an anima power that reduces damage A LOT, like I did, that made it so no one hit could take more than 25% of my hp, so the soft-enraged boss was manageable.

As a shadow priest I had no issues until this guy. I read somewhere if you're going to die, do it near the repair NPC so when you respawn you can aggro him before he regains health. Was about to die but w/ my potions and heals, pulling out all the stops I got him before he got me...wish I read that before losing 3 lives. Lol. But it worked.
