This mob actually splits into two once the two orcs underneath it are killed and the boss event is started. First Vazruden (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=17537) lands and once he/she? is defeated, the mount, Nazan (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=17536) lands and fights.

He currently despawns after two failed attempts on him in Heroic Mode.
I can't absolutely confirm that it's always after two wipes, but on the only two Heroic Ramparts runs I've done he's despawned after two failed attempts to kill him.

I would advise not bothering to even run Heroic Ramparts until this is resolved unless youre confident with the final encounter.

I've seen no despawning issues, and run it on both heroic and non-heroic recently.

I can confirm that he despawns after either 1 or 2 tries. First day when my guild encountered him on heroic, he despawned after 2 tries, the day after, he despawned after one attempt.

As of 6.0 hitting, it appears the chest is bugged and unlootable, even after waiting close to half an hour.

If you want loot out of Vazruden's loot table, you need to kill his dragon FIRST. After Nazan drops Vazruden, hit him with any ranged you have. He will land at 1%, then you can kill him. Then kill Vazruden. Then loot your chest!

It seems the bug with the loot chest has been fixed. I just ran Hellfire Ramparts on normal difficulty, and while the chest did take a brief moment to become clickable, I was able to loot it for the Hellreaver polearm. I did let the boss take a few swings at me, but since my character is level 100, saying that he didn't do much damage is an understatement. It is possible that the looting troubles have been due to the boss dying too fast (just a guess, because I have seen that in the past) so if you're still having trouble looting the chest, just play target dummy for the boss for a few seconds.

To get loot from this boss you have to loot a chest on the back end of the platform. It does not shine the way an unlooted boss does. However it is not as stated by others necessary to kill the dragon first. If the boss dies before the dragon it takes a little while before you get credit for the boss and until then chest is unlootable.

Be careful of whatever this one uses in my combat log as lvl 20 this boss:

Nazan Melee hit You 145 Physical.

Nazan Cone of Fire hit You 193 Fire.

Liquid Fire Blaze hit You 1,598 Fire (1,198,239 Overkill)

This was in normal mode as lvl 20 i dont have access to heroics or mythics.
