You don't need a key to zone in to this instance, just a raid group.
It's located on the south side of Hellfire Citadel down at the bottom ground level. There is a summoning stone down there.
Trash is on a one hour cooldown from the first death. There are four packs of 3 mobs. One of them roams.
Killing him finishes Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon (
As well as Magtheridon, there are 5 Hellfire Channelers in his room that summon fire adds. The toughest part of the fight is trying to survive taking the Channelers down whilst keeping their summoned adds and Magtheridon under control. It's easy to get overwhelmed. As the Channelers go down, you need to move healers on to the other tanks, because they get stronger and faster with fewer of them up.(##RESPBREAK##)2056##DELIM##adashiel##DELIM##
Actually Illidan kills Magtheridon in Warcraft 3 Expansion Blood Elf campain. How comes he lives in WoW?
When your doing blood furnace, look down through the floor of the last boss magtheridon is chillin down there
And Illidan figured he magtheridon would be more use to him so he draged him to hellfire Citadel.
New in 2.1, you can bring the head of magtheridon to Danath/Nazgrel for ring rewards :
20 minute enrage timer from the time he's released (22 minutes into the actual fight).
The infernals have been nerfed a LOT, and no longer can 2-shot cloth wearers. In addition, the channeler's spells have longer cast times and can be interrupted more easily. Overall, a pretty big nerf to this encounter
Anyone know how long you have to get out of a cave-in?
When we started Magtheridon, we found it helpful to have the RL assign icons to the guys who had to click the next queue. I'd make two macros that auto-assigned icons to predetermined players, it would look something like this:
/script SetRaidTarget("target A",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target B",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target C",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target D",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target E",index)
I'd replace Target A-E with player names in my raid, Index would be a number from 1-8:
0 = no icon
1 = Yellow 4-point Star
2 = Orange Circle
3 = Purple Diamond
4 = Green Triangle
5 = White Crescent Moon
6 = Blue Square
7 = Red "X" Cross
8 = White Skull
I'd have two version of this macro, with the same icons but different guys (obviously). The icons would correspond to the icons we assigned the channelers standing by the cube before we start the fight.
That way a Cube would "become" the star-cube, x-cube, etc., and we would have an easier time communicating.
Whenever a cube had been clicked, I'd activate the other macro and raid icons would move from the first group, to the second group of clickers. No one would ever mess up in whether it was their turn or not in this way, and as RL I could easily survey whether all 5 guys were up by looking for the icons.
/Mythicow, Esoteric Foundation, Defias Brotherhood
Specific to Hunters:
Be sure to disable Auto-Shot when it comes time for you to click your cube. I accidentally left it on and lag caused my next shot to break my channeling, Exhausting my Mind and wiping my raid.
To people who's about to try this guy:
My raid usually used a warrior to tank this guy - our warrior had 3/5 t4, and 1/5 t5, etc etc.
He was hitting the warrior for 7k dmg max, while when I tried to tank him (4/5), (I'm a feral druid by the way) hitted me for 5k max, this is really something you should take into consideration, we found it way easier to let druids tank him.
new in patch 2.3:
Hellfire Citadel: Magtheridon's Lair
Mind Exhaustion is not applied until Magtheridon is successfully banished.
so while you'll still need a main clicker, a 2nd clicker, and a backup clicker (for if someone dies) you no longer have to worry about clicking twice or moving accidentaly after you click.
The 2.3 change to the Mind Exhaustion debuff makes this fight considerably less sensitive to wipes caused by things like latency, delayed loading of the channeling graphic, or simple accidental misclicks. However, this remains the most challenging T4 encounter to organize and plan. Assignment macros and an addon like Orion Magtheridon Assist can greatly simplify the preparation involved in staging an attempt.
A complete guide to killing Magtheridon, including assignment macros and a link to the OMA addon, can be found at
Since patch 2.3, u now get the 'Champion of the Naaru' q when u did / do the attunement quest for The Eye.
Contrary to a lot of other bosses in TBC and contrary to what a lot of guilds think, this fight is not a DPS race at all, you simply need control. Once you learn to control the Infernals in phase 1 and interupt all the casting from the channelers, you should arrive at phase 2 healthy and ready to DPS Mag. From there the raid takes almost no damage and you will probably have an excess of healing to keep the MT topped at all times. Just go nice and steady and keep on top of the clicking.
whos harder gruul, or mag? and can a guild in kara epics with mismatter glad do mag?
Changed on 2.4 PTR -- no infernals and 30 sec mind exhaustion instead of 85, so you need only 5 clickers for the whole fight.
The following are rumored (unconfirmed) nerfs that the Magtheridon encounter will recieve in 2.4
there are 3 channelers instead of 5
there are 3 cubes instead of 5
there is only 1 infernal per channeler
the boss doesn't have a cleave attack anymore
the ceiling damage has be reduced roughly by half
the cube debuff decreased from 75 seconds duration to 30seconds
This seems to be the bag that Magtheridon drops in 2.4. No idea on it's contents.
use Deep Breath as often as Onyxia. However bunching up
cause him to use Deep Breath more often.
Just FYI to confirm, we killed Mag last night on the live realm, all the changes are accurate. He's is 110% easier (not that he was hard to begin with): only one infernal per channeler, ceiling fall damage reduced, click debuff reduced, etc.
Also, he dropped:
... and 250 gold ...
Yay loot pinata!
For anyone interested (buff filtering addons, etc), the buff (note,
, not a debuff) from clicking the cubes is:
how many days is the reset on mags lair?
"Magtheridon has a 20 minute enrage timer."
In case half your raid has to go afk.
Magtheridon, the former Lord of Outland, is a Pit Lord who conquered the ruins of the orcish homeworld following its destruction. His reign was ended by the arrival of Illidan Stormrage, who took Magtheridon's throne at The Black Temple for himself. Deciding that Magtheridon would have a further part to play, Illidan had Magtheridon's body dragged to the Hellfire Citadel where he imprisoned the Pit Lord, leaving him at the mercy of the fel orcs. His rumbling cries are heard throughout the Hellfire Citadel. It is interesting to note that his wardens are not fel orcs, but normal green-skinned orcs. It seems that Illidan is keeping Magtheridon alive for the sole reason to create more fel orcs under his rule.
i discovered that at 30% when he caves in the roof on every1. if i moved around i took triple the damage but if i just stood still i only took the 5k or whatever it is. dont move.. my raid did unfortunately get Quake on most of the dps/healers/ clickers during that cave in once. and wiped us because we were moving. Is there a timer on quake or is it just random. starting 40secs after he activates?
Well how did he lived in The Black Temple as i remember the entrance was too small for him(lol). But still his butt got kickt by Ilidan ho is mutch smaller(the fact makes the boss a total loser). But anyway this Pit lord's (VERY VERY)dark and evil past he is still a big and hard boss and(WITH A COOL SPEACH)and many people wiped on him.But still...he drops t5 but w8...he drops other cool staff soo if are good-bad geard visit him for a cop of coffie and pizza AND THEN VEPORIZE HIM
Methinks the 20 mins enrage is because of like 6 people or so lvl 80 trying to get the loot :P in other words, to make it harder for them to not "take their time" unlike soloed or two man onyxia :P
When Magtheridon heard about the 30% hp nerf he yelled: "NOT AGAIN! NOT AGAIN!"
When Magtheridon heard about the 30% hp nerf he yelled: "NOT AGAIN! NOT AGAIN!"
His weapon, whats the name? I know it isnt a drop, but I want to know it. Can some1 tell me :)
Frost DK (Tank)
Tank tanks everything while the Unholy DK graps them 1 by 1 and finish the adds off away from the others while the healer stands between the Tank and the other DK to keep them up.
Challenging fight :-)
Not soloable by decent geared DK as of 25/1-08, died at trash which hitted about 2.5k haha.
Magtheridon was voiced by
, who also donated his voice to narrate in Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King.
It appears that he also voiced King Terenas the 2nd in the
Wrath of the Lich King Cinematic
just 3 manned him. dropped about ~500 gold, so we each earned about 165~ish gold, 3 t4 tokens, a 20 slot bag, a bunch of gems, his head, and 2 random epics for about half an hour of work (going through those trash packs was annoying...). We just vendored everything and came out with about 25ish more gold (5 g per token, + ~10 gold from the 2 random items).
1 protection warrior (me)
1 holy paladin (T7.5/T8 mix)
1 fury warrior (T7.5~ish gear)
I tanked 4 of the channelers at 12 o'clock, while the fury warrior took a channeler, one by one, to the 6 o'clock position. the healer stood in the center of the room to reach both of us.
the fury warrior would grab a channeler one by one as he killed them, so they wouldn't heal each other. it worked just fine. i think we had about 2 standing by the time mag came around.
a tip would be to make sure to avoid getting hit by cave ins, as they do about 27k damage if you get hit by one after mag hits 30%.
mag hits like a sissy now...
His voice can be heard while doing the instance Blood Furnace.
"My blood will be the end of you!"
"Take my blood and choke on it!"
"Illidan is an arrogant fool! I will crush him and reclaim Outland as my own."
I really wish I would of read this page before I 3 manned him. Did him with Prot Paladin (me), Resto Druid, and Shadow Priest and we couldn't interrupt the healers so I just tanked it all and kept taunting spawns off the other two.
It's actually pretty fun to accomplish, even though it has a full-week cooldown.
Feral Druid(Me) and a Holy Paladin. Both of us were in T8/T8.5.
We were about 6 Seconds ahead of Enrage Timer. The Paladin had to do around 700dps to be able to have the Raid(Lol) dps to make the Timer. The Adds are the most annoying part about the fight since new Burning Abyssals spawn every minute and the fact that for some reason at around 30% all the adds decided to bug out and drop aggro.
First defeated by Nihilum of Magtheridon on the 24th of February, 2007.
Hey does anyone know the voices of magtheridon? i would like to get one macro? :)
So, my gf and I are going through some of the old world end game dungeons, and after our success with Onyxia, she was wondering if we would have a chance with some of the BC endgame stuff as well...
Would we stand any chance at downing Maggy whatsoever?
Our chars can be found
I'll probably be using my Demo spec.
Any advice and/or warnings would be great, I know our gear isn't too good, but we are too scared of human contact to do heroics/raiding :P
2 manned me and healer. to 20% twice(took toong to keep trying)
Problem: at 30% he changes, and once at 20% we both died instanly, 2nd time 1 died he want near me. Ceiling callapse yea...but how to avoid? whats the best strategy>?
Side Problem(doesnt matter): all adds dont die, tanked them and boss but with no problem.... so not a problem actualy lol
Solo'd this bad boy today. Blood DK tank, about 43k HP, just tanked all 5 channelers and infernals from pull through to mag's death. Not sure how close to enrage it was, but all 500ish gold straight into my pocket. Will be fun doing this weekly for cash =D
it might be possible for a protection paladin to solo this.
blast wave has a 60 seconds CD. this means that if you have 2 2 minute CD defensive cooldowns (divine protection and divine guardian-buffed divine sacrifice), you could chain CD's for this.
normally, blast wave does 12.5K damage. divine protection makes 6.25K from that. divine sacrifice changes 12.5K to 10,250 damage. the 60 seconds between blast waves could mean you could heal that back up in between with SoL and JoL.
edit: i have been thinking about combining sacrifice and hand of salvation glyphed for the second CD. this would mean a DR of 44%, or about 7K damage taken. also, we have about 21% damage reduction on magical damage from talents and buffs. this means blast wave deals 9,875 damage over those 10 seconds. this means bubblewall reduces that to 4,937.5, and the other CD reduces it to 5,530 damage.
the other big chasm is the enrage timer of 20 minutes. this means i need to do 2,810 DPS to get it. however, if i need to keep my HP up, i will need to have some HP boosts up.
I soloed him too today as a blood DK w/ pestilence, took me 4 tries to get it, but it was worth it in the end.
It took me 21 minutes and 58 seconds on the kill though, and that was with using army/ghoul and Hysteria every cooldown. Also pretty much needed all my other abilities to stay alive, but it was enough in the end. And so worth it.
Duoed this today as a disc priest/blood dk. Wasn't too bad, just had the DK gather up all the mobs and waited for Mag to pull.
Fairly easy to solo as DK in ICC25 gear. My current record is 17 minutes.
Took me a while to notice, but you can see him under the floor in Keli'Dan the Breaker's room. (Blood Furnace)
Zódd - Hellscream ~5.05k GS DK with 41k UB health, managed to get him down on the 3rd try with heavy struggle and careful rationing of CDs. Used a customized version of Blood/Unholy-38/33 (inspired by Raegwyn's Blood-Unholy solo build), which you can check out in my armory profile:
By constantly spamming Rune Strike and keeping ghoul frenzied I managed to average out at a round 3015 single target dps on Mag (without disease aoe), ending the fight about 19mins after the pull. 5k GS seems to be scratching at border of the doable though.. the first 2 tries there were moments where even chaining all my available CDs couldn't keep me up during damage spikes, and on the kill I had to utilise Dark Pact 3 times to stay alive.
In order to beat the enrage timer I uses Citadel Enforcer's claymore with Fallen Crusader, and swapped in a few pieces of hit to reach 8% meele hit cap and 23 expertice. One observation during these fights was that the 3% self heal from Fallen Crusader procs is an immense help to survivability, as it chain procs constantly.
An extremely thrilling fight, good luck to all you Mag hunters out there!
done it with 3 ppl
holy pala - me
feral dru - dps
prot warr - tank
tank grabs all mobs and moves them to the wall, dps takes one caster at a time, moves him to the opposite side of the room and kills him there
one by one, do not worry about time, try to do as much interrupts as possible when mobs try to heal
when phase2 starts, nothing changes except some benign quakes and boss hitting tank for a little.
continue doing as before until all of the summoners are down
then just dps boss, do not worry about cubes, damage from boss is easy healable, just zerg him and get your free gold xD
NOTE: warr tank makes fight very easy because he can:
1) interrupt by himself
2) cast vigilance on healer thus rapidly take infernals from healer
We just 2 manned him, prot pally/ret pally.
As prot (me) I used seal of light, and any self heals I could as well as any migation (corroded skele key/sacred shield) and hold aggro on everything.
We found out that the channelers just kept on healing themselves and eachother so we didnt have the dps power to get them down quick enough with 1 dps pally and a prot pally so we just waited out the first phase, they didnt hit for very hard. Second phase came along, I picked up boss and had the ret pally heal through the blast novas, since all he had to do was holy light himself and me if he needed to and get mana back with seal of wisdom. About down to 1M HP he went into phase 3, collapsed the walls and stuff. Blah blah blah, same old thing, and we downed him.
He dropped a couple pieces, handguards, his head, tier pieces, and we got about 238g each, so all in all it was a good run. The trash I had solo'd before the boss, it was a pain the ass -_-
Two manned this guy yesterday using a shadow priest + Prot pally who's keeping an extra eye on the infernal spawns to avoid unecessary damage on the priest.
The vampire embrace spell almost healed the damage of the Blast Nova between the gaps of his casts and the paladin had no problem keeping himself alive with no heals from me using SoL, JoL & Sacred Shield.
Got him down in about 7 Minutes with an approxiate single target DPS of:
He still drops 500 gold pieces split!
So its DEFINATELY worth going here with a great 2 man setup to harvest the 250g for maximum 15 minutes of effort.
JUST DONT TANK MAGTHERIDON AND HIS ADDS CLOSE THE ENTERING GATE. HIS PUSHBACK WILL MOST LIKELY PUSH YOU TOWARDS IT AND RESET THE WHOLE ENCOUNTER =)
Ok, Blizzard was REALLY lazy with the Pit Lords in WOW, Magtheridon was purple in Warcraft 3 and Mannoroth was greyish green and had black armor, but they all looks the same green with red armor in WOW, the only pit lord that got a special skin was Brutallus, and he didn't even have a backstory!
Think he can be soloed as a prot paladin?
Attempted to solo Magtheridon on my warrior last night. It didn't end well. Trash was easy enough, but the adds on the Mag fight just put out too much (magic) damage for Blood Craze and Bloodthirst to heal through. I barely survived the opening phase and bit it right after Mag activated.
For reference, I was wearing Protection gear (including 4pt10) with an average item level of 260. I was using a slightly modified Fury spec designed for soloing.
I'm sure I could easily two-man this with an occasional heal. I imagine this will be soloable for a warrior at level 85 without much trouble.
Duo-ed with prot warrior and resto shaman. Pretty easy. We tried once with me as fury and it didn't work since you can't out damage the adds and need to leave them up. Once I switched to prot it wasn't a problem. It's okay to leave an infernal here or there on the shaman for water shield!
Smooth sailing though and only took about 18 minutes!
Solo'd as a lvl 85 protection paladin in blues, I estimate my average ilvl to be around 320. Complete piece of cake, took 16 minutes.
I attempted soloing this as a survival hunter with a bear, mostly 85 questing blues with a few greens. I tried to deal with the constant heals the adds gave each other until I gave up and let the encounter reset.
keeping my pet alive was barely an issue, and the shadow volleys barely left a dent, but the sheer amount of stalling was getting tedious. was kind of like fighting a training dummy with a retribution aura.
I'll come back sometime with heroic gear and give it another go.
Soloed as an Unholy DK with an avg ilvl of 348. Took 6 minutes and 1 second. Hardest part was burning the first add or two before the healing got to be too overwhelming. Magtheridon himself was cake.
Just soloed by a 85 demonology warlock in blues / heroic gear.
Took 2 attempts to get him down, first phase is easily the hardest.
Since there are 5 channelers and they all heal, its very difficult to get passed.
what i done was put my felguard on the first channeler and put my dots on him.
By the time all the other channelers reach the channeler you have dotted he should be around 80%
When they are all grouped up, pop all cd's! metamorphosis > demon soul > summon infernal > immo aura > demonic leap > hellfire, and lasty pop your felguards felstorm
at around 40% all the channelers will target the first channeler you dotted and cast dark mending on the one mob, by then all the channelers would have died exept for one (the one that got healed).
Down the last channeler as usual and you should have alittle time to spare to heal before magtheridon is up.
When he is up, the rest is easy! let your felguard get some agro and tank n spank! keep dots up and pop meta / cd's when they are up to down him quicker. If you get agro all you need to do is soulshatter!
So thats about it! enjoy your easy 500g / loot. :)
Astoundingly simple to solo as a Beast Mastery Hunter. Don't even bother killing the adds, glyph mend pet, and constantly misdirect infernals to your pet. Fight takes a while, but you should never be in any danger. Simply stay at max range to keep from being shadowbolted by the channelers.
Tried to solo this as a Blood DK, had no troubles staying alive, but I couldn't fight Mag for more than 2 minutes before he would despawn, every time.
I suspect it might have something to do with my Bloodworms despawning/dying, because i've never had this problem before when duoing.
Just a thought, in case anyone else comes here tryin to find an answer.
Soloed as enh shammy with full hc gear+some epics from rep reward and engineering.(also 2 epic pvp weapons)
my trick was to make my spirit wolves aggro the adds in the beginning furthers away, during the time I nuked the first one, then I did my best to aoe them to like 50%, then I tried to interupt as many heals as possible, I managed to kill one add after another.
Maggy aggroed me when the last add almost was dead, but luckily I had spirit wolves again to aggro him and save me from death.
When adds were gone(including infernals) the rest was very easy,
Was very bored and killed him in demo lock (me) and prot warrior 85's team.
The incoming damage was a joke, so i think it will be possible to solo it too.
The adds... I just AOEd them down all at once, thanks to demo's insane AOE damage.
at lvl 85 as an enhancement shaman i was able to nuke the adds down very fast, interrupting the heals. the boss was 3 min.
fast and good gold.
Can be soloed as an 85 protection paladin in mostly heroic blues.
Pull the trash in single groups, because their fear is nasty.
Don't even try to kill the Channelers, they will heal too easily. Instead focus on Mag and use your cooldowns and word of glory often.
Were the Channelers buffed to heal all of them? I couldn't AOE them down fast enough. Every time I tabbed over after seeing ONE of them heal, they were all bare minimum 90% hp.
Nevermind, need to Focus ONE of them down first so they ALL heal the same one.
Solo'd last night as Demo Warlock. This might have actually been easier at lvl 80 in Wrath epics due to higer haste %
Mag is absolute cake, but getting the casters down is frustrating. I tried for about an hour to figure out a repeatable strat to get them down, and I finally came across one. Pure aoe didn''t work for me, and single target and tabbing didnt work - they all just healed through it
ProTip: summon your demonic circle outside the arena door and if you can't get the casters down, teleport out to reset.
The strat that worked for me:
The real trick I found is first to show thieir health bars with 'V'. Rather than tabbing through the mobs and hoping for low health, this lets you see who needs a nuke and who doesn't.
Pull the first mob, dot him up and put your felguard on him. As the others run in, dot them up with at least corruption and I recommend immo for the MC procs. Now Felstorm, pop Meta, drop an infernal on them, and hit immo aura. The trick is to look for the lowest health bar after they heal someone. They shouldn't all heal themselves because the first mob you were hitting will ultimately need their heals. For me, at least one mob was below half health or lower. Click on their health bar and nuke that mob dead. Keep repeating this and hopefully you can kill 2 or 3 while the mass aoe is still ticking. I suggest popping felstorm a second time when you spot a mob with low health and it's ready again. Essentially, you want to keep all of their health ticking down but all at different levels so they can't properly distribute their heals. By showing their health bars, you can see when they make a mistake and leave one mob low on health. All the other strats i tried failed for me, and the first time i showed their health bars and did this, it worked. Once three of them were down, I didn't even have to try the others dropped like flys.
If I recall, by stats are something like gear level 339, ~9% haste ~15% crit ~14% hit
More haste would help nuke, but you need hit since everything is lvl ?. If you miss any nukes tryinig to burn them you're screwed.
Once you engage Mag, its just a long Felguard tank and DoT kill. Nothing he does is big damage at all.
I just managed to solo him as an 85 Death Knight, in tank spec but DPS gear, average of ilevel 342, having never done him in a group before.
A couple of times I managed to make the mistake of not killing all the trash, so they ran in when I started on the channellers. Once they were all dead I managed to get him on the next attempt (somehow 6 extra mobs hitting and chain-fearing you makes the encounter harder). I also got one channeller down using Army of the Dead and one interrupt.
I fought Magtheridon with my back against a wall to avoid despawning (had no problems at any time), I used my cooldowns when they were available, I kept Scarlet Fever and diseases up on all the enemies and basically just used heart strike and rune strike, with death strike every time it was available. I didn't go below 50% throughout the fight. I wouldn't call it easy, but then again I'm not incredibly geared and I probably made some mistakes.
Soloed as a Druid, Ademaren - EU Dun Modr, 30 minutes ago aprox.
Berserk + mangle to kill first adds, skull bash to cut heals, and a lot of patience. (22 minutes to me xD)
Just soloed this on my hunter. I couldn't kill the chanellers because of their heals, so I let my turtle tank them all. The infernals will continue to despawn and get resummoned, so keeping pet aggro on them is a pain. In the end I just kited them around Magtheridon while I killed him. I was Marksman for the heal from Chimaera shot, and I used the two-piece T5 bonus, although it wasn't really necessary.
I soloes this on my balance druid last week its worth 500gold + loot
As of 4.0.3, Magtheridon keeps on despawning at different stages of the fight for me. Sometimes at 2%, sometimes at 90%. Happened for me 4 times in a row, then finally could kill him again. Very annoying.
Anyone else experencing the same thing?
Easy to solo in Cataclysm:
For me the despawning happend during his knockback. I think it has something to do with not hitting him for a moment. Saved my avengers shield to make sure to atleast get a hit on him. Not sure if this is what got him down or if it's just luck.
Magtheridon is even more managable at level 85
Did it 2man (balance druid & blood death knight) both with item level ~346.
The only real trouble was killing the channelers because of their heals. We had them grouped up, but focused on one at a time - we couldn't prevent all the heals though.
I didn't see the death knight drop lower than 95% health because of his selfheals. In theory a blood death knight could probably solo this, if he manage to get the adds down himself. As a balance druid I didn't have to heal him, and only had to worry about dealing damage.
He dropped ~492 gold, which is a fairly good payment for 15 minutes of work.
Okay. One thing that's always bugged me about this guy. He has a giant-ass spear on him.
Now somehow along the way of Illidan beating this guy up and hauling his ass to Hellfire Citadel and keeping him under lock, it NEVER occured to him to take away his spear.
Soloed by paladin in Cataclysm..
"Magtheridon vs Nekaél"
Just solo'd this guy as an 85 MM Hunter (7/31/3) with a Turtle as my pet; Currently 330 ilvl.
Make sure you clear all the trash; I thought I was clever and Camouflage'd past the trash packs, and of course when I pulled they all aggro'd.
I didn't bother killing the five adds at the due to their healing each other constantly; Instead I let my turtle tank them as well as Magtheridon once he engaged. My turtle couldn't pick up all the Infernals that kept spawning, so I ended up kiting them around a circle while DPS'ing in Aspect of the Fox and kept my turtle in the middle of the room about where Magtheridon is when you walk in.
I was able to keep the Infernals off of me mostly with running/DPSing in Aspect of the Fox alone as they run slower than I do, but I dropped Frost Traps every now and then for some extra distance since Magtheridon's earthquakes make it easy for them to catch up. In the end the healing from Chimera Shot heavily outweighted any Shadow Bolt Volley/Blast Wave/Infernal Damage.
I'm not sure about how long it took me to kill him, but I didn't hit his enrage timer so you can assume it was in a time span shorter than that :P
New better version of how to solo Magtheridon:
500gold, epic gems, a bag and a few items in 15 to 30 mins.
Amusingly, while this boss was rather easily soloable by a DK at 80 in tank gear towards the end of tier 10, this boss is now soloable by a DK at 85 in DPS gear / frost spec. Just burn the adds down one at a time at the start, ignore the infernals, then burn mag down. Howling blast spam on the adds is nice because their heals are "dumb" in that they will all heal the lowest HP target, so just AOEing and focusing one add, then switching to one of the others and bursting after all of them overheal the low one will make getting them down easy.
The advantage of doing it as frost, of course, is time savings. Instead of it taking me 15 minutes, it took me about 5.
I did it in mostly 359 gear with a few 372 pieces and my HP didn't dip below 50% after the adds were all dead. The new dark succor glyph coming in tomorrow's patch should make this even more trivial.
Just soloed this guy as combat rogue. Used normal pve spec and had full epic gear. Just burned channelers down and tried interrupt the heal as much i could. When I had killed all channelers I was pretty low but Magtheridn doesn't hit very hard so i could out heal him with recuperate.
Soloable by prot warrior with ~150k health unbuffed.
You can't proc Impending Victory from the adds reliably because of their healing. There really isn't a lot of strategy to this fight, just try to Shockwave the adds (to stun the abyssals) every time it's ready and always keep them in front of you.
10 minute fight, during which I took about 950k damage total. Only a third of that was from Magtheridon himself. I did about 970k healing, the vast majority of which was Blood Craze (550k), then Mending enchant (200k).
Soloed pretty easily as a Retribution Paladin using Seal of Insight,Blessing of Kings, and Resistance Aura in a mix of 333-359 gear, standard PvE spec.
The fight is incredibly simple, and never changes from 100% to 0%.Bunch all the adds and Magtheridon together, and spam Divine Storm (I've not used Crusader Strike on this fight once) along with Word of Glory whenever Divine Purpose comes up,use Offensive CDs as much as possible to shorten the fight. In my experience, the combined heals from those two abilities+Seal of Insight have been enough to keep me above 40% health through the entire fight.
-The Channelers will most likely not die throughout the encounter, this is fine since it helps with Divine Storm heals.
to not despawn if you never move and just let him throw you around the room.
-Blast Nova is a non-issue,you can just continue the fight normally through it. (Lamenting that a once raid destroying move can be completely ignored by a single person is entirely acceptable)
Soloed today on my 85 blood dk in a mix of reg/heroic 5 man gear. took me 15 mins. didnt kill any adds, just stayed on mags at the door the entire time. very easy, health didnt go below 20%.
I can safely say that the glitch is caused by getting knocked towards the wall by earthquake. I soloed him today with my DK but it took me 2 tries. The first try reset after I got knocked towards the wall by earthquake. The second try I tanked him in the middle and downed him easily. That earthquake is so annoying. I did it with blood spec in unholy presence for the extra healing from glyph of dark succor.
Done with 10 level 70's (well 9, one of our healers disconnected).
Make sure to keep the channelers away from eachother so they don't heal. And put one interrupter on each mob, interrupting only Dark Mending. Shadowball Volley can be healed through. The fight itself was easy, we didn't even have to use the cubes anymore.
Easily soloed as a Fury Warrior. Just use Recklessness/Death Whish to nuke down the Channelers asap, pummel their heal as often as you can and ignore the elementals. Once all the Channelers are down, use Enraged Regeneration. For the next 3 min use Bloodthirst (with Glyph of Bloody Healing) on every cooldown to keep yourself up and slowly dps him down. Use Enraged Regeneration again and finish him off.
The fight took about 6 min including adds. 4.5m damage done, 477k damage taken, 451k healing done(265k Bloodthirst, 186k Enraged Regeneration).
When soloing him, he likes to despawn while throwing you around. Therefore tank him sticking to the wall and enjoy your loot.
Enurtal Doomhammer prot pala!
Just soloed this dude! took me 3 attempts and 30 mins but i nailed him!
Well worth it he dropped near enough 520g and around 50-80g in vendor stuff
Well worth it :) this is my new weekly activity
This fight is so buggy. He reset on me twice before I killed him. I think I know what's going on. If you get knocked away from him while he's busy doing something, like blast nova or making the ceiling cave in, he'll reset. The first time he reset when I got knocked back just as he did the emote for the cave in. The second time he reset when I got knocked back while he was doing blast nova. So basically try to keep aggro on him with dots or ranged attacks.
Last night I was very mad because of Magtheridon disappearing 5 times in a row - I lost an hour and about 60 gold for repairs. I wrote a ticket. Here is the GM response:
Game Master (GM) Response:
What you report normally happens when Magtheridon is either being soloed or the party facing him has very small numbers (less than 4). We have reported the issue to the development team, but the fact is the magtheridon encounter is a raid encounter and was designed having a raid in mind and not a small party, and because of that they are not very tempted to alter the encounter.
As such the only advise we can offer is to not try to solo magtheridon and build a small party.
Perfectly soloable as prot war with 346 gear
no need to bring down anything .
yust keep debuffs up on all adds and infernals while you wait for boss to be set free..
then grab him and rotate Cooldowns when he does his blast nova
Enraged regeneration back up from 50% and repeat
not much of a challange
exept for the fact he keeps despawning now and then and it gets annoying
but perfectly soloable by all tank classes and most dps classes
I too was able to solo him at 85 with 346iLevel gear. MM spec. Used my Terrorpene to tank the adds. His shell shield + cower is nice when you realize you stopped paying attention to his hp for a few, as theres a decent amount going on that you need to focus on.
Took a few attempts to get the hang of what to do, and which method seemed to work for me. I ended up finding it much easier to do the not killing the adds method. Key points taken from above plus some of my own:
- use Aspect of the Fox
- Chimera Shot as often as you can; the heal from it will keep you alive
- Misdirect your pet alot (just worry about misdirecting Mags, dont have to worry about multi-shotting the adds once Mags is free); I highly suggest using Glyph of Misdirection
- lay frost traps for the infernals and just kite them back and forth across the room
- have your pet tank the adds/Mag somewhere near the wall; stay at max range so you dont get hit by the caster's shadowbolt volley
- keep an eye on your pet; he can spike from time to time; use an occassional mend pet (dont need to spam it, just once in a while); and like I said earlier, use cower/shell shield every CD
- make sure you have thunderstomp on auto, it will keep aggro on the caster adds while he is targeting Mag with growl
- I spec'ed into Spirit Bond 2/2; proved helpful since you dont have time to bandage
Hope this info helps.
Edit: Btw.. he dropped 483g, not an even 500 ;) Not sure if that changes each kill or not. I would suspect not.
Just solo'd as a Destruction Warlock. The trick is to use
Demon Soul: Voidwalker
to put threat on all the
. Then use the Move To command to park your Voidwalker in place, and 1 at a time peel the Channelers off your pet and pull them out of heal range. Then kill them one at a time. Then pick up
once he pops.
in the up coming patch, raids such as karazhan, mag etc will have there gold values reduce by quite some bit according to the latest patch notes
Blood DK -
Didn't even bother with adds, death striked/rune tap to keep HP topped off
When Mag breaks free,
Stand against wall/in corner, Death strike every time its available, keep diseases up/army/raise dead to keep max dps so it doesn't take too long
Took me about 9 minutes from the time i first pulled channelers.
lvl 85 Blood DK 349 ilvl avg
Stupidly easy as an 85 prot pally, just ignore the adds and back to a wall so he doesn't reset.
If you are going to solo this boss, I suggest just disregarding the adds because you likely can't kill any of them. Focus on staying at full health during the first phase and then start rotating your cooldowns when p2 starts.
Magtheridon will also reset if you move too much out of his attack range, for instance during the earthquake, so you should tank him with your back against a corner (not at the doorway though or you'll again risk resets).
I have soloed this on my Marksmanship hunter twice now. I have a level 84 bear tanking for me, and I have managed to take the adds out to really simplify the fight. As there's a rather long timer between engaging the encounter and Magtheridon becoming active, you have a lot of time to do stuff. The trick is to MD all of it to your pet except for one. You'll want to aggro one of the adds and kite it using Aspect of the Fox. When it's far enough away from the rest of the channelers, you'll find that that add will
be healed by itself. You can easily burst damage through this or use silencing shut to interrupt the cast. Either way, you can take one out every few dozen seconds or so.
You'll also find that the encounter becomes exponentially easier when you knock 2-3 adds. The rest of the adds will have less channelers to heal them, the burning abyssal count will drop down, and damage to your and your pet will also fall. Magtheridon's easy enough with just one or two alive, but if that's all you have left you might as well burst through them.
By the by, I also use the hunter 2-piece T5 set bonus, causing my pet to be healed for 15% of the damage I do. This - combined with pet talent heals and Blood of the Rhino - makes for an exceptionally trivial encounter. My main problem was keeping the abyssals' aggro on my bear; this was easily solved with misdirects and finely-timed feign deaths, though.
Just did it as a BM hunter, around 350 iLevel in PvP gear (Enchanted and gemed). Used a Tenacity pet (worm) to tank all the channelers in the middle with Magtheridon. Was in Aspect of the Fox and just circle strafed to outrun the infernals. Was a really easy fight as Spirit Bond out healed all Blast Novas and Mend Pet healed a lot higher then they could damage. Just nuked down Magtheridon and ignored the channelers.
It cannot be understated how easy this is for a level 85 prot pally. I hit 85, forgot to train Guardian of Ancient Kings (but I put my talent point in!) and took off for Outland in quest greens, 316 dungeon blues, and a couple pieces of rep-based 333's (Ishmerai on Silvermoon, FYI). I used short cooldowns pretty regularly to mitigate things like blast nova and not to get caught by the enrage timer. It took me 17 minutes from starting the fight, and I was being conservative with holy power, opting for heals over damage to keep myself topped off.
Seriously, start farming this before they reduce the gold dropped.
I just tried soloing this guy as a shadow priest... not going to happen. I'm poorly geared (heroic level stuff) but I really don't think raid epics will make a difference.
I wasn't specced into Silence, so my only real way of surviving into Phase 2 was to put on Inner Will and run in circles around Magtheridon. Make sure to put Shadow Word: Pain on one of the channellers around every 8 seconds, or they'll "leash" and despawn, resetting the encounter.
Once Magtheridon was unleashed, things got ugly. Really ugly. I was able to take down 3% of his health before he started up with an earthquake which put an end to my kiting. Even if that didn't happen, he probably would have reset anyways.
My usual trick when I'm overwhelmed in solo raid encounters is to summon my shadow fiend and use Fade. That didn't seem to work here. I'm not sure if it's my 9% chance to miss or it just not working on some bosses.
If some more skilled or significantly more geared shadow priests want to build off of my probably misguided strategy, feel free.
Solo'd as a fury warrior.
A tough and close fight, came within an inch of my life, I was on 6k hp at one point, one more cleave and I was gone.
Tactic is to blow your CDs to kill the channelers fast or you'll waste precious health and time because they can outheal you.
Then of course start on maggy, use demoralizing shout so he hits less hard and sunder armor for as much damage as possible.
Pop enraged regen when you're at 40% or 50% HP, you'll want to use it sooner than later because you're going to need to use it again near the end.
HP is key to this fight, use anything you can to keep your health high, more HP = more healing from bloodthirst and enraged regen.
Use a macro for shield wall and shield block to survive a bit longer until your enraged regen cooldown resets.
/cast defensive stance
/cast shield wall
/cast shield block
I soloed this as a Protection Paladin with an average item level of 350. It was quite a long fight. Things to note:
For the trash, one group at a time should be pulled; the trash uses Death Coil (fear). The mobs themselves aren't hard despite being ? level; however, the fear makes it hard to heal. I had to use Lay on Hands when fear caused me to aggro a second group and I wasn't able to heal through the fears fast enough.
The channelers should be fought until Magtheridon engages you. Then they can be ignored. There's no way to kill them since they heal each other.
You want to be on the defensive or alternating between defensive and offensive (e.g., swapping between Seal of Insight and Seal of Corruption as well as Word of Glory and Inquisition) since the mobs are strong enough to kill you unless you're constantly healing yourself.
Do not put your back to the door. When he uses his knockback, being knocked into the door can cause the fight to reset. (The boss and friends will vanish and reappear in a few moments.)
After the boss dies, the channelers and their pets will still be attacking you, so make sure that your health isn't too low. I almost got killed when I decided to go all offense at the end and had low health as a result; I ended up bubbling and spamming Flash Heal.
I was a bit amused at the end; I used Nitro Boosts to escape the channelers, the belt tinker malfunctioned, and I was ejected onto the floor above Magtheridon's Lair. That platform happens to be the platform that the final boss stands on in The Blood Furnace instance. The door leading out of that area is just a blue wall though; walking through it will drop you back into the original dungeon and cause you to take more than 50% of your health in fall damage. The malfunction ultimately ended up being kind of helpful because it caused the channelers to vanish.
Just solo'd as a Blood Death Knight at level 85, ilvl 349. It was a pretty tough fight; here's how I did it.
First off, every time you pull a trash group, take it near to the entrance (except for your final one). This ensures that you won't be feared into anything, and that you won't pull the patrol if it's still up. Once every group has been taken out, go down to Magtheridon and aggro the channelers. You won't be able to dps through the heals unless you're incredibly good at interrupting the heals, so just focus on dpsing it until Magtheridon comes out.
Get Mag as soon as you can and just start dpsing him down. Make sure that you put diseases on all of the adds with Pestilence, and also try to do some AOE moves. After this, it's pretty much a case of self-healing with Blood Strike and Rune Tap until he goes down. Loot your stuff quickly and run out before the adds take you down.
Anyone having trouble with Mag despawning, one solution is to simply not move. On the Magtheridon's Lair page, someone contacted a GM about it and he said the problem is because the raid isn't meant to be solo'd with just a few people.
Just solo'd him my first time today, and I just stood in the same spot - had no trouble at all.
Agreeing with all the posts above me, simple and easy to farm. Ret pally in mostly blue gear, some BOE epics (Ilvl344), just keep hitting Divine Storm every time it's on CD and you'll have it made.
Occasionally pop in a Word of Glory or Holy Radiance and you'll never go below 50%. I also used Seal of Insight for the fight. Also, you may want to make sure that your gear is fully repaired. You'll be getting hit a LOT during this fight as melee DPS, and you want to make sure your gear will last the entire fight.
Just tried soloing ol' Mag literally a few minutes ago as a Goblin Death Knight, and I just couldn't do it, do to the enrage timer. This is where being a Blood Elf is key, because of their aoe silence. I could not keep the adds from healing each other, and it took a tremendous amount of time to kill them, coupled with some lucky kill shots.
I went into this with my raid spec, which is not hit or expertise capped, and I'm also missing a few abilities that would increase my damage a little bit by sacrificing a little evasion. I had absolutely no trouble keeping myself alive through this fight, so the sacrifice could definitely be made. I did a majority of the fight in Frost Presence, but it was only when I switched to Unholy Presence was I able to start downing the adds, do to faster rune regeneration. By the time Magtheridon enraged, I had him at 60%. *sigh
To all Blood Death Knights - yeah roger, we understand you have been overpowered since the launch of cataclysm and can solo everything up to and including the Lich King and it's been proven. We don't need anymore "har har laughably soloable by a blood DK" posts. Thanks. Frustrated prot warrior here.
Should be soloable by any class with decent self healing. Unless you're a tank, you can kill the adds before mag activates: bring two to around 65% simultaneously, then hit one, wait for everyone to start casting a heal, pop cds and burn the other one. While CDs are up you should be able to kill 1 or 2 more, then its more or less a cake; when CDs are down just interrupt the heals.
In light of the upcoming gold nerf, does anyone know what his new gold drops are on the 4.1 PTR? My guess is something like 10% of what he used to drop..
I've solo'ed Mag before. The last six times I've tried though, he despawns. I've tried keeping him as close to center of room as possible. I've tried making sure I use ranged to keep his interest in me when I'm being knocked back. I can't seem to avoid it. It always happens during or immediately after being bounced around. So I was thinking I could use Divine Shield to stop one set from tossing me about. Does anybody know if Hand of Protection or Hand of Freedom would similarly save me?
Update for people who are terrible at soloing like me : in spite of the rumours, the channelers still heal each other as of 4.1
Downrate facts. GG.
I soloed him today on a ilvl 359 OS ret pally and this Mofo droped 50 gold.....
With the patch Rise of the Zandalari or w/e, the gold has been lowered from (what I've seen) 485-517 gold to 49 gold. Ain't that fun?
Why do DKs say this was a tough fight? In my 350 ilvl dps gear I solo this with my eyes closed, its so easy of course not worth oding anymore but you just let the adds pound away on you while you dps magtheridon you must be doing something horribly wrong, just spam death strike and you will barely take damage (blood shield) will absorb almost everything.
I'm a blood elf death knight and I've tried killing mag in blood spec and I can't understand how you kill the 5 adds at the start of the fight because the heal each other... my racial (Arcane Torrent) doesn't help... I've also tried blood and unholy presence.
To heal myself I've been spamming death strikes and keeping up diseases but it doesn't heal me enough after they start spawning their demons
Just did it as bear, tried to kill adds, just not enough dps, so I ended up tanking them all, and killing Mag's. I might have got down to 50% hp at the lowest, ended the fight around 80%. So easy for tanks.
Dropped 48g 87s 87c.
Gold drops for this mob have been significantly reduced.
Dropped 59g exact for me.
Also, as for how to do it on an 85 hunter solo:
Use turtle pet. I specced for Thunderstomp, but your mileage may vary.
Get 2 channelers low HP, push one, then swap targets and kill it.
Repeat until at least 2 channelers are down.
Trap one Infernal, kite the remainder.
If you get low, feign after the next Blast Wave (unless its >12 secs) and bandage.
After Mag goes down, dismiss pet and feign to despawn channelers.
I did it as a PvE surv, nothing special about it, only had Mend Pet glyph.
Easily soloable as a Demo Lock -ilvl 352 for that matter- , burn down the adds with Meta and Felstorm and you will have 20+ seconds left in Meta when Magtheridon aggros. Stay at the 40 yard range, let Felguard pound on Mag and just unload everything you have on him.
For some reason Boss-lvl-mobs don't react fast on heavy damage when you stand on the 40 yards range, so you can burn it down fairly easy.
50g drop + g from the items gave me 125g, still a nice amount :)
Can anyone confirm Mag disappearing roughly 5 minutes into the fight?
For those trying to solo him as a hunter(at 85).
I was in PvP-gear(4 piece vicious, 2 pieces of bloodthirsty, rest 333/334Ivl PvE blue's)
I used a different approach than the hunter above me, I did however use a turtle pet.
Get your turtle(or tenacity) pet to aggro all the caster, do the same with the adds that get spawned.
Use misdirect to keep them all on your pet(Multishot helps). If the adds won't aggro your pet during the encounter for same reason, use multi-shot and aspect of the fox to kite them. While attacking the boss. Besides all that, its a fairly simple encounter. Just make sure you heal your pet and use his CD's.
Just soloed him, he droped 50g + itens that i sold for another 50g, so aproximately 100G per week by soloing this guy, not that worth it.
A quick note:
85 warrior: solo, clear, no quests, takes about 28 minutes on Heroic
2900 rep with Honor Hold
60g from mobs
29g from selling junk
10 random greens
3 stacks of netherweave
The room at the bottom of the path before you go to the final boss is a pain. Lots of knockback and other attacks that prevent you from doing damage. It is possible to die there if you pull the room.
i killed that now and he drops 49 g 81 s 46 c
Downed him with 4 people..none of us knew what to do (all newer players-yaya solo all you want but we are newbs...we run in packs), so thought we'd give it a go with us guildies who were on and not busy.
85 retadin, 85 arms, 71 healadin (she dps'd till I died, then took over healing), and me...68 restodrood. wiped first try as we didn't realize just how well those castors were healing each other till 2mins up and Mag started wailing on us while we're still trying add control. Read up strat on wowhead, ran back in for 2nd try.
I died very quickly as I was um...not paying attention to healing myself but instead was tossing FF on the castors (which we did lucky charm this time around and focus burned them), and picked up too much aggro. I stayed dead for the rest of the fight to call out directions....seemed better that way.
Burned castors one by one with only 1 left when Mag engaged, then pretty much they just ignored the last castor and burned Mag. He went down no problem and worst damage taken was the other heals getting hit by some falling rocks at same time as the Blast Nova.
Sloppy...but first time our guild tried something other than a quick run through MC (85 pally running me through for gear XD) or normal 5mans, so was nice for the new experience. :)
Soloable as an 85 AA/A specced discipline priest. ~360 iLvl.
- I went with Focused Will & Inspiration for the extra damage reduction.
I never could get the knack of killing the channelers as Shadow, so I just switched to discipline and tanked the adds while focusing on Mag. It took me about
13 m 30s
to down Mag once he became active.
HF/Smite (kind of obvious)
Use PW: Shield on CD for absorb and rapture
Use PoM and Renew after Penance to take advantage of Grace buff
Don't forget to use Archangel Evangelism on CD
Back against a wall to minimize the chance of despawn
Don't be afraid to use your cooldowns since it's going to be a long fight.
Edit: spelling typo
Confirm Mag disappeared several times when soloing it plus 3 lags and 2 disconnections, was getting annoying when down him to 100k of hp then restarting the encounter because of that, I managed to get behind the Hellfire channeler on the left just entering the room then tank'd all HCs while dpsing Magtheridon.
As feral tank I downed the HC's when the one I have focused was low on hp, I pop'd Berserker - Berserking << (Troll's racial) - Lifeblood << (herbalism spell) then skull bashed all Dark mendings then when those 3 on cd was using ff if wasn't up, Lacerate, Thrash, Mangle, Swipe and Maul.
Just spelling out a few things for anyone new to soloing Mags...
1) Around the perimeter of his lair there are stationary and roving mobs, in sets of three. These must be taken down. Any you miss will run into the central area when the Mag fight begins.
Looking at the damage they deal I suspect that even a well geared Cataclysm DK tank would be advised to do this preliminary clear, at this stage of the game.
2) Next you enter his circular lair. There are these single mobs spread around, seeming to channel his bonds. They have cubes. You do not click the cubes and never will be able to click the cubes. Just eye candy.
Agro one of the channeling mobs. That causes all to run at you. They heal each other. Devise your own strategy to nuke them down. I popped Bloodlust etc and used my stone golem and Feral Spirit too.
You need to kill as many as possible so that few remain when the fight automatically shifts into the second phase. I had two left.
3) Phase three begins after a while - Mags activates automatically. Stand with your back against a wall. Do not move. You will notice his attacks "trying" to move you. Always be doing something to ensure threat is maintained.
Obviously tank and spank. You know your own class for when you need to heal through damage. If you do not have an okay level 85 set of gear then the average player should just forget it. Your basic Mists questing greens will suffice.
Tips for the soloing Fury Warrior:
The best setup for soloing Maggy as fury, is being Titan's Grip specced with 3/3 Bloodcraze. Icing on the cake but not totally necessary for this fight, is bringing a spare set of two-handers both enchanted with Mending (though if you plan to do soloing past T4 content, dual-Mending will allow you to kill bosses that would otherwise be near impossible to solo as Fury. It has allowed me to solo some pretty tough customers, for example Gorefiend in BT).
If you are from the future and have managed to grab one or two Souldrinkers from the Dragon Soul raid, then SMF becomes the stronger solo choice, due to the incredible self-healing proc from this 1-handed weapon.
After ensuring you have all you need to survive Mag's damage (food buffs, drums and elixirs/flasks always help), the next step is getting used to killing the heals-spamming Channelers before Mag activates. 2 approaches I can suggest to this:
1 - Go ape sh1t with aoe, popping DW+Reck and make them spread their long cd heals all over the place, just keep aoeing and they will drop like flies, then pick off any stragglers.
2 - Take them 1 by 1. Bring an add down to just above 50%, pool 100 rage, pop CS + Inner Rage and blow it up, move on to next (with FL level gear you probably won't even need CS to burst them fast enough).
If the Channelers went down smoothly and Mag hasn't activated yet, you can use the short break to bandage up. Once he attacks, it's tank and spank while keeping your back against a wall. Try to keep Thunderclap and Demo shout up. If you brought dual-Mending and Blood Craze, you may now proceed to point and lol and enjoy your loot.
Finally came back and didn't have too much trouble with this as a (now mostly) PvP upgraded 85 Fury Warrior. Had what I thought was ok gear before at ~ilevel 348 but couldn't kill the healers in time.
Came back after awhile with ilevel 372 and while the healers can still easily outheal the damage, there is enough strong burst damage to take them out. Killed 2 before Mag became released, then dropped the other 3 fairly quickly along the wall once they couldn't keep up with the heals.
Mag himself was well, not quite a pushover but incredibly easy. Maybe did 50K to me total or so - nothing of any special note. Just fought him against a side wall and was fine. Got ~50 gold, a 20-slot bag, his head, and other misc gear along with an achievement ;)
While this place certainly hasn't given me quite as much headache as say, MC, it is certainly nice to get a raid crossed off the list.
Soloed as Feral DPS druid 378ilvl, keep in bear form and keep Savage Defense up. Easy.:-)
Cannot solo this as 378iLvl Assassination Rogue.
I can burn down 1 channeler at the start, but the pummeling from infernals & such is just too much ater that.
Tried it as Sub, and oddly enough, I did it.
For the rest of them, I just hemo'd to get 5cps, autoattacked until ~50% health, evisc, then hemo/evisc to finish them off. It worked 90% of the time. Tossed in a Recup here & there, had to blow Evasion too.
Mags posed no threat alone, kept up recup/snd/expose armor/rupture. In that order of importance.
Threw in a Feint here & there, had Evasion up again, CoS when he was doing blast nova if it was up.
Duo'ed with SV Hunter and Elemental Shammy (ilvl 390+ on both). Cleared the mobs (which are ? even to an 85, which doesn't make sense) in the hall, then started the combat with one channeler. The channelers summon elementals who were causing us some grief, but between aoe and some single target all adds were down by phase 2. Once Mags engaged it got a lot simpler, though there were some infernals who stuck around and beat on the shammy. Took a few minutes for the kill.
Solo'd this today as a prot paladin. Very easy, just tedious. Ran Seal of Truth for most of the fight and if I got low (70k) I would swap to Insight. But I was in no danger of ever dying. Most annoying thing is the trash. 383 average I-level.
I was able to solo him on my shaman in elemental spec. I used the earth elemental totem to tank the trash in the room first, then popped heroism and nuked him as hard as I could. Glyph of unleashed lightning helped a ton to stay out of his way, and it took a lot of self-healing and rockbiter weapon to survive, especially since my ilvl is only 385, and it's all resto gear.
I soloed this today (01-2012), it took about 10 minutes as a prot paladin (level 85). I used seal of insight to keep my health up easier, and kept tanking the adds untill Mag was dead. The boss dropped about 50g (so it's not 500g anymore!) and about 150g from drops. It is possible, doesn't take too long and if you need you get a nice 20 slot bag.
I was able to solo this guy as a Feral in full ilvl 390 PvP gear.
Mainly, you have to try and get the 4 warlocks down as fast as possible, which they do go down pretty fast while in kitty form. Do not swipe spam on them though, as they do heal, and you wont get them down that way. The extra damage that they deal is something you really dont want to deal with.
After they go down, put your bleeds up on Mag, use a healing touch from predatory swiftness, and hop in bear form. Repeat as much as possible, keeping your bleeds up at all times. He will go down eventually.
It was about a 5-10 minute fight for me though though, I didnt really calculate it, so be prepared for that.
Soloed as a drood with my friend (locklock). This strategy worked for me: You pull the first add at the entrance door, and all run to you.
Then the lock pulls one off you with high DPS. They may get a heal off until the lock has enough hate to peel the mob to them. He than ran across the room (Dark Manning has range greater than 30 yds despite what it says here! Just 30 yds is not enough) and nukes it down, using Felhunter to interrupt the casts.
Repeat for all other adds. Once all adds are down, simply nuke Mag until he dies. Funny fact: When Mag dies, he vaporized on drood (only armor was left and fell to the floor) but for my friend it still showed the dragon as corpse.
And then, proceed to cut off the
from his hide.
Has anyone succeeded in soloing this as a mage? If so, how? I can kill the adds but Mag has too much HP and I have no heals. I'm thinking about trying to tank him with my water elemental but it sounds extremely slow / prone to failure. Any ideas?
To kill the adds, have your water elemental attack a couple, pop cool downs, overwhelm them one at a time, counter heal if you see it. Keep the infernals away with a freeze. Shouldn't be too hard as long as you don't take damage from more than a couple and stay away from the infernals.
Solo'd as bm spec with item lvl 382 gear.
Took about 6 mins total. I used a spirit beast for healing and had glyph of misdirect so my pet always had aggro of all the adds.
Ran in and and went to the far part of the room then sent my pet to the add closest to the door to start then feign so they all went for him. Misdirected and pop bestial wrath and cd and just rapid fire multi shot all the adds. Once mag was fighting and the infernals were out just misdirected all again to my pet and let him tank them all and ignored the infernals.
With glyph of mend pet my pet was barely taking any damage and if the infernals aggro to me i just feigned and remisdirected the infernals hit for about 1,500 to 1,700 and with my pet healing me i barely got under 95% health.
True you now only get 50g for the kill and about another 75g+ for selling drops. I did it for the t4 chest for transmoging. If your looking to solo for decent gold Molten core runs take no time and still drop 50g+ per boss so worth it for your time.
Also if your looking to have the full t4 set for transmog soloing the other 2 raids (grulls lair and Kara ) are also a breeze for a hunter and i'm sure other classes so always fun.
I soloed him yesterday as a 85 Prot Paladin with 353 iLevel gear.
Clear the trash groups and engade Magtheridon, don't even bother with the adds. Seal of Insight and Word of Glory on cooldown and I didn't drop below 70% health. Used Hammer of the Righteous instead of Crusader Strike to kill off the Infernals.
On my first attempt I just let him knock me around and he despawned at 2%. On my second attempt, I put my back against the wall oposite to the door and just stayed there. No sweat.
Dropped around 51 gold, 20 slot epic bag, bag of gems, 3 tokens, his head and another random item.
After having soloed it at around 380 item level, with more or less all I could try him (done first as fury dual wield, didn't lose more than half hp during the fight, done in fury with a shield and a gurthalak, ended up full hp, done as arms and finished at around 40k), tried also on my dk at around 350 item level, I couldn't kill the adds, so I just killed him outhealing all; was quite challenging.
Now that my dk has 389 dps item level, 381 tank item level and my warrior has 392 dps this boss is not a challenge any more, so I thought to do an interesting thing that I haven't read on this thread from anyone so far:
soloing him completely during the enrage!
With my dk, of course.
So, I tried the other time in dps gear, around 386 item level, it took him 2 mins to bring me from 100% to 20% and I just kept healing myself with lichborne, after 22 mins he enraged and literally destroyed me with 15-16k hits and also very fast. I managed to do him 1 millions damage in enrage.
Now new try in full tank gear, after he enraged I started kiting him, it's slighly harder than patchwerk for who soloed him; does a bit more damage and has more or less the same speed. Blast nova hits 15k each sec when enraged, but nonetheless that is a time to heal back: ams, rune tap, ghoul and sacrifice or lichborne and spam death coil yourself.
It's extremely challenging, took me 4 mins to kill him since I started to dps him, and I thought it was interesting to do as like I said magtheridon is now a pushover even for warriors.
Here is some screenshots, as I cba making videos; all to show my hp vs his and maybe some of his hits, except the second one which shows the berserk effect.
Easily soloable as a 381 geared combat rogue with 378 weapons. I just ran in there, used AR with blade flurry on and all the channelers eventually died and then it was ezpz on the boss, just keep recup going and you'll be good to go.
i love playign the raid in the WoW Tcg
Just wanted to add to those thinking of making this a weekly solo. Whether or not its worth it, is up to you and your time. For me, I play a lot so may do this weekly, but not really much in
ive (for me). The gold has been greatly lowered (no more 500g peops).
Here's a list of what dropped for me just now (I also posted a screenshot of the loot).
Loot + Vendor value
49g 88s 98c
Total after vending loot (including Gems) = 130g 54s 57c
- This starts the quest
"The fall of Magtheridon’"
Quest reward = $13g 20s (as 85 capped (no xp)). Choice of ring (
6g 2s 56c.
Pit Lord's Satchel
- 20 slot bag.
*What is it with Blizz, and the fact that most bags that drop are under 1g? Hehe
Girdle of the Endless Pit
4g 24s 94c
20g 30s 59c
Chestguard of the Fallen Hero
Chestguard of the Fallen Defender
Black Sack of Gems
The gems that I got were:
*AH these if you want, but being there are much better gems now, doubt you'll get much business.
So being that the quest can only be done once (of course), in your consideration of making your
hundreds here, be sure to subtract the full quest givings of 19g 22s 56c. This is just my outcome so your numbers may be slightly better, good luck.
For those thinking of soloing this as an 85, just don't fall asleep. Meaning it's easy (well, I did it on my prot Pali also). I came here looking for the mechanics of the fight then got tired of looking so just went for it. Wow, was I amazed how simple it went. Having just returned to wow in 3 years, I wanted to reminisce these old fights. My guild did it back in BC. I did it for that reason, and not for the loot really, so seeing what it is now, you can see if it's worth your time.
Easy solo by rogue combat 390 item level, patch 4.3.4
I'll add my soloing comments, both as a
with 350 iLvl, and as a
with 385 iLvl.
The bear only had various gear from 5-man heroics and JP purchase items. My dps was way too low to kill any of the Channelers (I'm also terrible at cat dps, so I didn't even bother trying that). I think I got one to ~1000 hp when it was healed to full by its friends. After the
mark, Magtheridon himself becomes active whether or not the Channelers are dead. I ended up just tanking him, the Channelers, and several of their Abyssals until the boss was dead. The bear dodge and self heal is such that I never went below 90% hp, and even that was because of the bouncing around during the earthquake.
For the hunter, I just use a tank pet (turtle), blow all cooldowns on the Channelers, and eventually the combined damage of all the dots, pet aoe, multishot, and a trap is just too much for the healing to keep up with and they all die. Then just the boss is left.
Good luck everyone.
Marksmanship (7/31/3) Hunter.
Ballinhunts, of Kargath-US.
Using a turtle as the "Go-To"
pet, I find it easy to solo (duo really) all of the old content as an appropriately-spec'ed
I advise the use of
Glyph of Mending
Glyph of Misdirection
as two critical Major Glyphs, the other choices are yours to make.
As has been previously mentioned,
is indeed a pushover.
Send your (tenacity) pet in, allowing him to develop instant-threat. Once all of the
's have amassed your pet, Misdirect and Multi-Shot (throw in an Explosive Trap to spice things up a bit) to your heart's content - eventually they'll all fall down! Now, Feign Death and allow your pet to gain
's aggro and to redirect the
to your pet; once again, simply Misdirect and win.
Don't forget to switch to Aspect of the Fox when you start getting bounced around!
Use Feign Death often!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in-game!
Soloed as a lv90 Windwalker Monk in the MoP Beta. Just kept self-healing and brought out Xuen to help fight for more DPS. Was done in 2 minutes. Pretty amusing. :)
Solo'ed as a Demonology Warlock with
in 360's gear, using
Cleared the adds outsides the cage, engaged and couldn't kill any of the adds.
Just let the Voidlord tank, healing him with health funnel (glyphed) in every cd, and focus on Mag.
When hp hit 50%, spammed mass drain life (talented) until health was full, using healthstone if its not on cd.
When went out of healthstones, used
and got brand new ones.
When Voidlord died (forgot some health funnels), just summoned a new one (instant cast, almost entirely fight had demonic fury almost capped).
Never enter Metamorphosis, because it drains all of your demonic fury.
Curious fact: When the fight ended, had about 15 stacks of Molten Core procs.
For those that filter by patch, fully soloable at 90. You can DPS right through the summoner heals and I think my health dipped lower on the trash than Maggie himself.
433 Guardian Druid
5.0.5 - continues to remain easy (of course). 463 enh shaman.
Took out the side mobs before main fight area, attacked the controllers (capac. totem comes in handy to stop them from healing themselves), then just burned Mag. Very easy and pretty quick fight nowadays.
90 BM Hunter 465 Item Level / Ferocity pet
DPS and DPS and DPS! Then you loot!
Pretty easily soloed as lvl 89 elemental shaman in questinggear.
Make sure you clear the adds (or at least most) before you start attacking Mag. It aggros all the adds in the instance and they chain-fear if you have a bunch of them on you.
Soloed this with a 85 blood DK in unholy spec for the extra healing from death strike glyph which at the time required you to be in unholy presence. That glyph is useless now for boss fights
Stay within range of him or keep him dotted because you might lose aggro and cause him to reset. You can also tank him with your back against a wall.
Here's the video:
My first run on Magtheridon and he was 2 manned by me and a warrior at 80.
Pretty easy as a 90 balance druid. Kill all the adds around him, and he should aggro when they're all down (except for the rock guys, if they managed to pop up). Kill everything around him, barkskin it up, throw a few rejuvs and beam the bejeezus out of him.
Can someone please tell me how some items here have a 102% to a 108% drop rate? It seems rather strange....
It is not my intent to sound ungrateful or angry but pretty much all of the many, many comments here are along the lines of:
"Easily solo as a level 90 with iLvl 483 equipment"
Well, of course it's easily soloable at level 90, it's a level 70 quest! In fact, the quest goes grey at level 83.
I'm getting completely destroyed by the elite mobs and need some helpful advice...
For those looking the entrance is inside the cathedral starting at 46.57 52.83, walk inside.
I can never see him as Magtheridon anymore.. It's either Earl Boen or LeChuck to me..
I've been running this instance the past few months and I have yet to see any of the chest tokens drop. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I can confirm it is still bugged. I just killed him and didn't get any chest token. It used to drop at least one and after nerf two as well.
