Dps the horse down, when you get him low enough he will mount the horse.
At this point you simply tank and spank.
Keep your threat lower than the main tank and its easy loot.
Dropped plate healing gloves...the fight was longer than expected. Healers should come prepared with mana pots.
The only risk of dying on this fight is when he is mounted and crits a charge on a poor ranged.
This boss is a loot bag.
The fight starts out with just the horse, Midnight. Have your OT tank it.
At 95%, Attumen comes in and the MT should pick him up quickly. Continue dpsing the horse.
When Midnight is at 25%, Attumen will mount Nightmare. He randomly charges the person farthest, so it's best to keep the hunter out in the back. Just dps him down, avoid his cleave if you're melee and gg, free lewts.
At this point in time he can disarmed when he is mounted, this makes his dps go down substantially. Un-confirmed if he can be disarmed while not mounted.
(Patch 2.0.6) It's possible that this boss can bug on you. During our first attempt on him, we had a horse respawn, and we died shortly after. We went back in, recleared to him as the mobs respawned, and then attempted him. We got the horse down to 20% simple enough, and the huntsman ran over to his horse. The horse disappeared and he didn't end up mounted. So we simply had the huntsman left. We got him down to 20% again, and he yelled that he was going to mount his horse, but... He ran and disappeared. No saved to instance, and no epics.
Not sure what causes it at the moment, but it doesn't seem to be very common. GMs will not help you if this issue arises though (they say it is a known issue), but you can just continue on with the instance if it does.
One thing to be mentioned here is that when he mounts, the combined health of him and the mount change to whatever his health was before he mounted. His health goes to 100% for just a second when he first mounts, but drops immediately to what it was pre-mount, so don't worry if you see his health jump at first.
In other words, it's good to at least dot him up so that you don't have to take him down from just 98% or so if only your tank is on him.
I just wanna say thank you guys for all the useful info you guys really know your shiz!
Prior to 2.1, you were able to avoid the charge by standing really close to Attuman when he mounted in the last phase. This "bug" has now been fixed, and someone will always be charged, it seems.
Attuman the Huntsman
Off-tank Midnight near the cart.
Main tank Waits for Attumen to spawn ON TOP of Midnight.
Enable nameplates (default 'V' key) to make it easier to see him spawn.
Slowly DPS Midnight down to 95% to spawn huntsman.
DPS horse until it reaches 25%, huntsman will mount up.
Agro list is reset.
Main tank gains agro ASAP.
All range DPS and healers group up in one spot within 10-30 yards BEHIND huntsman.
This negates his charge AND resticts cleave to only the tank.
Raid icon someone as a marker on where to stand.
Melee DPS should stand behind huntsman.
Tank and spank from here.
Warrior:Both Midnight and Attumen are immune to taunt and bleed effects.
Disarm! Reduces Attumen's damage by about 65%
Rogue: Both Midnight and Attumen are immune to bleed effects.
Mage: Huntsman has an AoE curse, remove it.
Apply Amplify Magic to everyone in the group.
The Amplified heals will out-do the Amplified Shadow Cleave.
Druids: Huntsman has an AoE curse, remove it.
Both Midnight and Attumen are immune to bleed effects.
Warlock:Curse of Weakness on Midnight and Attumen
Priest: Shadowfiend will not attack Midnight when unmounted, as it is neutral.
After 2.1 has any hunter seen a change in charge damage? I had 3 charges all for <300 damage each. I thought this was extremely odd.
This was not the case for other mail wearers in the group and definitely not for the cloth wearers.
1 thing nobody has mentioned ... the curse if timed right you can spell reflect it and make life much easier for the healers
because he has a 50% increased chance to miss (that includes charges) there has been many times when ive seen him charge randomly with the curse on and not seen anyone in the raid take any damage
allthough you cant keep it up the whole fight you can get it reflected for the most part
Attumen sound files:
Something continues to mess up when I do this! Apologies for noticing so late. Using double slashes should fix it if it doesnt work.
I'm the hunter in our group, and I generally take all charges as everyone else closes into melee range. Some groups want the hunter to come in and melee, too, but this is a poor strategy. Hunters can take the hit, and as long as you're getting heals, it should not be an issue being the "charge tank". You're DPS is useless in melee and it's better to be pew-pewing from range and take the occasional knock on your ass. So, if you have a hunter in your group, let him be "charge tank" and let OT go in and contribute to DPS.
Another hunter tip: When Midnight gets to about 97%, put MD on your MT and get ready to Tab Target to Attumen and hit him with a quick Distracting Shot as soon as he appears. A good tank will usually pick him up very quickly, but sometimes Attumen will run into the crowd and one shot a squishy before the MT can get ahold of him. If you hit him the moment he appears, you can get him glued to the MT ASAP and you can go back to burning Midnight down.
We have our main tank pull Midnight, and let him get a good amount of aggro, then dps Midnight till Attumen comes out, then have the OT pick up Attumen, we DPS Midnight until they mount up, then when they mount up we have a designated person as the "Stand-On" Person, we have all classes stand on that person, theyre ussually marked with a raid icon. Doing this prevents a random charge on them, potentially wiping the raid. Only exception is the hunter who is in the raid, but usually he can survive the charge. Tank-and-Spank most of the fight, except for a Disarm whenever the cooldown is up. Not too hard of a fight, havent wiped on it yet. Nice loots, easy fight, GG.
The mounted version as summoned by
As this is the NPC you actually kill, I wonder why this isn't the one with the loot...
Speculated to be a Death Knight on wowwiki.
His charge has a minimum range of 8 yards, as do almost all of a hunter's shots. Hunters must be prepared to take charges or resort to crummy melee damage.
After the mount-up, everyone except hunters and the tank should stand in melee range behind Attumen.
The hunters will get hit with charges. These seem to do either around 4,000 damage each, or almost no damage. Either way, there's a knockdown. The "almost no damage" on the charge may be related to his curse being reflected onto him or being disarmed. The charge can also be parried, and probably dodged (with no knockdown or damage at all). It can easily be healed through, even with just bandages, potions, and a healthstone.
After the charge, Attumen returns to the tank. The tank should just sit still to avoid messing up the positioning of everyone who is trying to stay behind him.
This is a fairly easy fight with no timer. Once everyone knows his role, the only threat is that of the healers running out of mana:
Main tank: Pick up Attumen when he spawns. Keep him pointed away from the raid.
Off-tank: Hold onto Midnight. Switch to DPS after Attumen mounts up.
Warriors: Disarm Attumen whenever possible, especially after he mounts.
Druids/Mages: Dispel the curse, especially for the tank.
Hunters: Use Misdirect to glue Attumen to the main tank when he spawns and every two minutes after that. Eat the charges.
Healers: Focus on the tanks before mount-up, then the tanks and the hunters who eat charges.
Damage-dealers: Don't pull aggro.
I don't think this has been mentioned, but I believe that in patch 2.2, Attumen's Cleave was changed to a 180 degree attack. Meaning that if melee stays behind him, they won't get hit with it, making the healers job easier.
If your guild has a Protection Paladin that is decently geared up... I'd say about 11-12k HP unbuffed and Uncrushable, you can simply have the tankadin tank both bosses at the same time.
This holds true for most of Karazhan, including Moroes+4 friends, Illhoof+Imps+Kil'Rek, and the trash(like dual robot d00ds).
This guy is basically "free loot" for this instance. Simple fight. Just keep your nose in the horses you-know-what, and he won't do his random charge. Even if somehow you do get hit, it isn't really a big deal, as long as you let a healer know so he can heal you right away.
Right after him, theres a group of 5 undead blacksmiths and a guy who repairs your armor if you are of honored reputation, and the objective of the first quest inside karazhan (not outside, inside). Also, if this is your first run through here, just clearing the trash before attumen, killing attumen, and turning in the quest to the guy got me friendly rep so I could get my ring right away.
From my tooling around with my brother-in-law's warrior, I found out the his curse can be spell reflected, if you can time it right, makes the fight even easier than it is.
When attumen mounts midnight its pretty easy just have everyone but midnight get behind him and he wont charge pretty simple
It is definitely a good idea to simply get everyone "Hug" behind him to avoid the mounted charges, it's not hard and makes one less job for the healers and/or off-tank :)
The easiest kara boss have one tank waiting for him and when midnight reaches 95% he will spawn attack him fast otherwise he will attack a healler probbably tank him untill midnight is at 25% ( all dps will be on midnight) and then tank him all ranged dps be far in order not to get cleaved he might charge you and then hit u once don't worry he will switch to his target again after that very easy figh GL :))
Stop all DoTs at about 35% so that when they mount together the aggro doesn't pull onto a warlock/hunter/warrior etc..
Give about 10 seconds to gain aggro before light DPS starts
Disarm as much as you can
The hardest thing about this fight is getting your group to do all of the things
Decurse the curse applied
Does anyone know the Lore for him and Nightmare?
Thanks in advance!
Attumen is, by far, the easiest of the bosses inside Karazhan. My guild, Lords of the Exodar, has easily 5-manned him several times.
Check it out:
This encounter is actually possible with only one tank.
- We just killed Attumen the Huntsman, and our paladin tank with "only" 13.000 hp(don't know his armor, def. rating, dodge nor block :-/) tanked both Attumen and Midnight.. Our warrior simply couldn't gain aggro of Attumen within the first 5 seconds so our paladin just decided to keep tanking him.
We didn't wipe. It's possible.
So if that horse is 95% Attumen get's summoned. Do u have to nuke the horse if he gets summoned till 25%?
Those don't work, so i rewrote them:
"Always knew, someday I'd become the hunted"
"Weapons are merely a convenience for a warrior with my skills"
"Perhaps you would rather test yourself against a more formidable opponent!"
"Come, Midnight, let's disperse this petty rabble!"
"It was inevitable..."
"Another throphy to add to my collection"
"Such easy sport..."
"Amateurs, don't think you can best me! I kill for a living!"
"Well done, Midnight!"

REALLY DO THE SERVANT QUARTERS FIRST
If your grp isnt so well geared or ure in here for a laugh, the Servants quarters immediatlely to right is an easy Epic.
AND NO BOSS LVL just a 73 rare elite.
Check my comment on SQ to see why
pretty ez fight my guild just downed him today on first try, we had warrior main tank and paladin off-tank, with 3 healers, mage, 2 rogues, hunter, and me(ret pally). i was too lazy to read 43 posts so i'll just say our strategy and if someone already said it (or every1 did) just downrate it dont get all mad.
-Pally tank Midnight at the border between boss room and room b4 it, then when attumen came warrior picked up agro and we focused on midnight until he mounted. war picked up agro and we just burned him down pretty quick, just stickin behind to avoid cleave, no problem no deaths.
He can only charge people in front of him. By stacking the whole raid besides the tank right behind the horse, you can avoid any charge damage, which is pretty nice.
My guild did this fight with 9 people, including a main tank and a healer.
Just focus the dps on midnight the whole fight while the main tank holds aggro from both attumen and midnight. Burn down midnight til he's at 25% and once attumen and midnight merge focus the dps on them. Since all the mages in our group died, we finished the fight with feral druid dps(me), 2 rogues, one feral druid tank, one priest, and an elem shammy. the other 3 mages died
Has anyone tried killing the boss first and then the horse? I hear something like this (the hard way) was done in Twin encounter in Sunwell Plateu and people got more epics than usual.
Not sure but its always worked for me... everyone stacks ontop of eachother behind him when he mounts and he shouldnt charge at all...
Is there a Helm in WoW that looks like his or Blaumeuxs?
Is the actual pronounciation Ah-too-man or Ahta-man?
Hardest part of the fight when you first start it is killing all the horses before the 30 min timer. lol.
We've had him Bug out before and rapidly (like 8-10 times back to back) charge casters, killing most all of them from getting hit 2-3 times in a row. So its a good idea for everyone to gather on him to stop charges all together.
Ive heard that Attumen drops a VERY rare mount. Any truth to that? My guildy claims he has it but wont show me... : /
if its possible can somebody link the mount to me?
Just a tip to the tank that will be picking up Attumen (Not midnight). A great way to pick him up asap is to Thunderclap, this will hit him no matter what, even if he isnt targeted and can make the pickup alot faster.
Seems to work well for me, just thought id share it.
I know that Intangible Presence is an AoE curse which means that it shouldn't be vulnerable to Spell Reflection, but this comes from Wowwiki:
Any warriors in the raid Disarm Attumen and use Spell Reflection to bounce the curse onto Attumen. Both of these tricks weaken Attumen considerably. Mages and druids remove the curse from the tanks and any non-tank warriors, to ensure that threat generation abilities and disarms land.
Can anyone confirm that Spell Reflection does/doesn't work on Attumen?
My guild 'Did it from behind' when he was on midnight.
2 manned him today with a feral druid tanking (30k hp, nax 10 man gear) and a ret pally healing (1268 sp). Was really just plain easy. No mount. Always next week!
Do you think that a level 80 prot paladin could solo attumen? Or possibly with another level 80 DPS?
Tried to solo tonight as a feral druid (80), failed miserably.
I can solo Onyxia and all of ZG (including Hakkar), but only got Midnight to around 50% phase 1. Yeesh.
Soloed the other day as an Unholy Death Knight in tank gear.
The hard part is tanking both Midnight and Attumen at the same time while Attumen's curse makes your Death Strikes miss. Banked all my runic power for Glyph of Death Strike and kept up my mitigation skills. Once he mounts her it's a joke.
It took about 5 or so min but he was very very easy to solo on my prot pally so if anyone doesnt have the mount its not very hard to to try farm every week.
I just soloed these two, the first phase is the hardest really, as soon as you get them to phase 2, its done deal.
Hits about 1200 or so, each of them, and in phase 2 about the same.
~Snazzie lvl 80 protection paladin, Frostwhisper
Any level 80s successfully solo or duoed him yet?
Easily solo'd by a prot pally in Heroic/Naxx10 gear. Gonna try to do this every week for the mount.
Design of his model reminds me of the Easterlings in Lord of the Rings. If you saw the movie, remember the elephant-riders.
Soloed with holy paladin in mix of Naxx10/Naxx25/Heroic gear. Most of the time I chain healed myself with flash of light letting Consecration and Retribution Aura do most of the damage, only judging once in a while to keep judgements of the pure up. The damage they deal isn't too bad but there was few close calls after getting bad shadow cleave/knockdown combos right after recasting consecration or sacred shield but lay on hands and divine shield got me through those.
After Attumen mounts up you've basically won. Not only is he in like 30% hp but his damage is also reduced significantly.
Any 80 hunters get him yet?
Soloed by 80 Prot warr in Naxx25 gear, hit/expertise capped.
Spell reflecting the curse
work; in fact, it's a vital part of my strat for a prot warrior. After spell reflecting the curse, bandage. If you're lucky, you can get the full duration of the bandage while he swings away and misses. Worst case I got at least half of the bandage cast, but it was enough to keep me alive.
I tried this in a block value/rating set, but the encounter lasted too long and I died. Hit/expertise cap goes a long way to ensure the fight doesn't drag on.
-Use big cooldowns (shield wall, regen) when both are up. Once Attumen mounts, the damage slows down and you can start using the reflect/bandage tactic.
-Used a greater ward of shielding and Ironshield pot before pull. Used the in-combat pot cooldown on a Runic Healing pot.
-40 stam food. I didn't use elixirs/flask, but you can to give yourself some insurance.
-Disarm in between curses.
Just solo'd as a Feral Druid.
Make sure you clear the pat above the stairs after Attumen. Then proceed.
Basically it's really simple. Tank him/them on the stairs when you get low in health jump on the stair railing. Attumen and horse will run up stairs and onto the railing and go all the way down to you. so basically you have about 2 heals you can get off and go back into bear. And when you jump off railing you can heal again because they chase back up the railing.
TLDR: Dps til low on health, jump ON the railing and heal up. SS back to bear. Dps til low and jump OFF railing and heal up then SS back to bear. This guy is easier than Mandokir to be completely honest. Wish this wasn't on a week timer tho lol.
Soloed Attumen the Huntsman (+ one respawned trashmob! xD) on January 31, 2009:
Cherti - lvl 80
It's not that easy to kill the trash and engage the encounter within 25 minutes - but it's possible!
If you want to know my strategy feel free to contact me in-game!
Attumen bears a strong resemblence to
, a death knight and fallen Knight of Solamnia, from the Dragonlance books.
Does he still drop the mount post-wrath?
Found it to be impossible as a Feral Druid. The first phase takes simply too long and you end up having to use all your cooldowns. Without them, you just can't outlast the second phase. Too many stuns and too little rage.
Tried to solo him as an 80 Holy Pally, got stomped. Came back as Prot - 25man gear in most slots, 27k hp, def capped, 20% dodge, 18% parry, 27% block, rocked his face. Very easy solo for a Prot pally in good gear.
tried to solo him as a 80 fury warrior, with full 10/25 epics, and dual wielding Death's bite. It was nearly impossible, seeing as I wiped at trash. Doable with healer, but impossible alone.
i wonder if this guy still dropps mount
Would he be soloable as a level 80 hunter?
Confirmed that being 80, Attumen is solable with a Feral druid in a lv200 suit (that is, heroic equipment) with appropiate jewels and enchantments.
Some things to keep in mind, if you want to attempt:
- clear that corridor group by group if you don't want to be overwhelmed in a gankfest when you engage Attumen
of the battle is by far the most challenging, as you will receive both the damage from Attumen and his mount
is a pure endurance battle, being the longest part, as Attumen will be alone hitting you and fairly slowly
As this is a long battle to solo, even a mid-degree talent as Improved Leader of the Pack is really helpful, healing you often.
Remember the combo Survival Instincts+Frenzied Regeneration is your god
, as having SI on will increase the FR effect. Keep your health pot for the worst moment, and kiss some warlock to get a nice health stone. Mash your better dps habilities, and you will be fine.
What about hunters, able to solo it? Comment please!
Solo'd as a BM Hunter with standard solo'ing talents and glyphs w/ tenacity pet and T5 bonus. Probably could not have kept my pet up w/o the bonus though.
Solo'd with balh blah blah, NO ONE CARES ( I think ) so make yourself useful and atqach a video to prove etc etc
Have had this dud on farm for a while on lock, gud cash....
Still no mount >_<
either target reaches 25%
, Attumen mounts Midnight, aggro is wiped, and their HP is restored to whichever target had more.
Solo'd as Prot Pally in heroic / craft / rep gear, nothing above ilvl 200.
Depending on your luck its easy or very easy.
When you fall below 35 %, and get lucky and hit him often enough when the curse is up, Ardent Defender should mitigate enough dmg to keep you at 20% - 30% health till the curse wears off.
If you're having bad luck, you might need to Bubble;remove Divine Plea; and heal... or use Lay on Hands.
Solo-able by an 80 Prot Paladin. Gearscore: 3900 Using Seal/Judgement of Light, and make sure you have the talent that keeps devine plea refreshed... Just focus on Midnight the whole time. I didn't have to heal at all with the exception of Seal and Judgement of Light. And I used 1 mana potion. Finding a friend to let you go without them is the hard part.
i'm a pro-fury mixed warr :P
I soloed this boss in a mixing gear of toc25/10/ul25/naxx25, they are combining with tank/dps, so i can hit him harder, you need good gear and retalent your build with relavent glyphs in order to restore more health in battle...
wish this will help ...one thing bare in mind..
use following abilities ASA cd ends:
and trinket (brewfast boss 's trinket is gd choice..as it can sum a light-weight healer for you, still helps, plus it +128 sta).
and most importantly...keep your rage UP....
good luck fellow warriors...
Soloable by a lvl 80 Enh shaman.
Soloed easily as a lvl 80 blood deathknight raid geared and dps specced. I just used frost presence and death striked as often as possible. Didn't even have to use any cooldowns (except my dps ones to speed it up) The hardest part of doing this was the trash mobs that got my health way lower than attumen/midnight.
Look at his horse, that horse is amazing!
The first and only time i have ever raided kara, he dropped the horse. I lost the role but i don't feel bad about that, the guilds raid leader won it and i was a brand new lvl 70 who was going to quit wow for over a year within the next two weeks (though i did not know it at the time)
Just my two cents
This guy is easily soloable by a level 80 BM hunter. simply get a tanking pet(i used the white bear from dun morogh for his bonuses to armor and health) and clear all the mobs up to the huntsman. misdirect to your pet after midnight gets to 95%, and switch to attumen, using multi shot when its up. as soon as they combine, pop your enrage and intimadation, and your in the clear.
Difficult but doable solo as a demo lock in good gear. Make sure you clear everything on the ground level, dont bother with the trash upstairs. Im not sure if I missed two spectral chargers but when I pulled midnight they aggroed as well. This made it much more difficult, the best advice i can offer is to keep threat on all the adds you manage to pick up, health funnel if your demon gets below 50%, and keep his mana up.
When attumen mounts his horse, stay just a bit away from from in, too close for his charge range. If you take a charge pop demo and drain life, and its just keep your pet up from there and your golden.
Even though the curse is no longer reflectable by protection warrior, it is still fairly easy to solo this boss with tanking gear and an ordinary tanking spec instead of bloodthirst healing spec. Though a weapon with Lifeward enchant is still recommended.
Remember to keep Midnight and Attumen debuffed with Thunderclap and Demoralizing Shout at all times to reduce incoming damage. When you reach around 70% of your own health use Last Stand followed by Enraged Regeneration, while this still doesn't make you heal for more percentage-wise it does heal for more while the boss keeps damaging you. If you only used ER then you would've ended up with lesser health because of the boss hurting you while healing. Use Shield Wall during or after you have used Enraged Regeneration if you feel that you are taking too much damage before the next heal is ready. If everything is working as it should be, the boss should be nearing defeat by the second time you pop Enraged Regeneration.
Soloable by a fairly well-geared (ICC-10) resto shaman.
Pull Midnight with a Flame Shock and drop your Fire Elemental. When Attumen spawns, hit him with a Frost Shock and drag him out of the elemental's fire nova range. The next two minutes before your elemental despawns are easy. Keep Earth Shield up and keep Flame Shock ticking on Midnight. Heal yourself and elemental.
Have Flametongue Weapon up and be autoattacking Attumen the whole time.
With further testing, it's a much better idea to dps Midnight as much as you can before the elemental despawns. I was able to drop Midnight down to ~50% in those two minutes. Drop Mana Tide as soon as it wouldn't be wasted.
After the elemental despawns, it gets harder to heal. Drop a Searing Totem and autoattack Midnight while keeping Flame Shock and Earth Shield up. Try to keep your health above 10k at all times. Dispel the curse when it is cast. This part is the longest and hardest, but if you are careful you should have no problems staying alive. Optionally, drop Earth Elemental for the extra damage.
When Attumen mounts Midnight, you've pretty much won. It's safe to switch to Water Shield at this point if you're running low on mana. Blow Bloodlust and use a regular dps rotation and Searing Totem to finish him off. Continuing dispelling the curse and healing yourself when necessary. It would be really embarrassing to die now, so pay attention.
Collect loot after he finally dies. Happy farming!
Hmm, so the horse has a bigger drop rate than the healing potion... well, i rather saw that horse when looting him...
Still, i have something to sell to a vendor for a few silver coins...
Solo'd as a ret paladin, had to equip my healing shield and weapon for the first part with both Midnight and Attumen attacking me. Would have been easier if I had a DPS or Tanking 1hander but I didn't :-P. The Second part was a breeze going back to my 2 hander.
I used Seal of Light and Judgement of light on the first part and Seal of Corruption on the second part.
Soloed as a warlock, simply tanked both with Felguard while blood funneling. I also did some small damage to Midnight so I could burn her down faster. Had to soul shatter once because I pulled threat.
When he mounted, battle got lot easier. I simply tanked and dps'd him down. When he was at 20k hp I just burned him down.
Also, no mount.
Just did this on my 80 warrior. In mostly ICC 10/25 prot gear with pvp arms spec for second wind. It will go slow but it's doable. It's basically a race to get to phase 2. Shield block every cooldown and disarm attument to take as little damage as possible. Use enraged regeneration and other cooldowns to stay alive as long as you can. Once you get to phase 2 you basically win, as he should be knocking you down enough to keep yourself healed up with second wind. Once I got to phase 2 I sat at around 8-10k health for quite a while.
i soloed him as a ret paladin. Used seal of light and judgement of light to keep my self up and cast instant flash of light from time to time.
I just soloed him as a lvl80 enh shaman in mostly t10 gear. The 5pull just before him was actually harder than he was. I was PvP specced for the fight (so 6% less damage taken and stoneclaw glyph). I started off by just dpsing midnight and then throwing down the earth ele when Attumen spawned. From there I just kept dpsing midnight and I used wolves and BL at about 50%. Was going to save for p3, but I messed up and accidentally pulled Attumen off of the earth ele. This worked in my favor given how easy p3 is compared to p2.
Once p3 started it got even easier. The earth ele died so I was able to use stoneclaw totem for the damage shield and I used about 80% of my 5stack MW procs for healing waves on myself. The only time it got close was right after using an MW stack he cursed me which greatly slowed down the MW stacking, followed by him knocking me down in the middle of a heal (luckily stoneclaw came off of CD as I got back up).

Solo'd on an 80 shadowpriest. Full t10 shadow gear, self buffed. I had 3/3 Improved Vampiric Embrace, otherwise standard raid spec. First off, Do not try to AoE the trash, single target so you heal yourself, and use your PW: shield between mobs so you have a sec to DoT the next target. Make sure to refresh your Inner Fire, it falls off really quickly, and shield before every pack. Shackle one of the horses to start every pull, and burn down the other horse first, then the stablekeepers. Also keep your Fear Ward on yourself. On the last pack, 2 horses and 3 stablekeepers, I used my Shadowfiend to tank everything while I shackled the first horse and got a head start on the second one. Then clear the next two packs after Midnight's stable to the staircase.
Unfortunately, even with 3/3 improved Vampiric Embrace, shields, potions, and full pvp gear, I couldn't heal through both Attumen and Midnight beating on me for more than ~10 seconds. I used the staircase trick mentioned earlier. Basically, i had to dot up Midnight and immediately run and jump onto the handrail of the staircase. As soon as they run up the stairs and back down, hop off and cast a spell, then wait for them to run back around and repeat. Don't bother trying to dps while they're are running back and forth, the staircase has LoS issues once they pass the ceiling. After Attumen mounts, i could heal through the damage and just burned them down, but you could still hop back and forth to heal. Attumen once got stuck on the ceiling while i was on the handrail, right after he mounted. Just move close or hop off the rail.
I would assume anyone that can DoT could easily kill the boss, the hardest part is clearing the last pack of horses and stablekeepers. If you don't have a way to CC one of the horses, you're gonna get hit really hard, worst case just graveyard zerg it and try to burn down each horse one by one without busting up your gear too much. Good Luck!
Confirmed, that he is easily soloed as a hunter.
For Attunen, I used the following:
1) BM spec
2) Loque'nahak, a tameable spirit beast with a simple dps build
3) My PVP set, which consists of several wrathful pieces,
4) Flask of stoneblood
The extra health was a huge boost, that helped with the fight. My spirit beast was more than enough when mend pet was kept up, no tanking pet needed. Simply clear the first half of the semi-circle area where Midnight is standing in the middle. It's easy if you mend pet > misdirect > multi-shot, or volley > freeze the horse that will most certainly aggro you after a short amount of time. With the freeze trap up, you can do one of two things: focus fire on single targets in each group pulled until only the freeze trap is up, or burn them with multi-shot and volley. I recommend the first, because with each one that dies it becomes easier for you to take the hits when/if your pet loses aggro, and it helps you do better burst DPS.
When you get to Midnight, just keep mend pet up, starting the pull with hunter's mark > mend pet > misdirect > serpent sting, then pew pew until Attunen comes out. Then I just popped multishot, MD, intimidation and serpent sting whenever they're up (or for sting, when it wears off). They both stayed on my pet, and when they did aggro a simple FD did the trick. The knockdown was annoying, but not an overall hindrance to the easiness of the fight. No pony on my first try, but I'll surely go back for more attempts until the beauty drops! Happy hunting!
Was unable to solo as a prot warrior. Not even close in fact, like 80% health thats it. Tried the fury/prot spec, didnt work at all, was getting damaged alot. My gear was def cap, 22% dodge 18% parry 11% block. Don't know how everyone else is doing it but i am unable to. Dis-arming didn't help that much either.
Solo'd as a Shadow Priest, really easy.
Dont be afraid to try.
Soloed as an 80 Discipline Priest.
Tried first in full Wrathful gear but went OOM when Midnight was at about 40% hp. Switched to my PVE gear (about 6.1k GS) +
and barely made it through Phase 1. The Valkyrs from Nibelung +
were a significant boon. Also 2/2
was very useful. It took about 6 minutes I'd say--I had to stop DPS in Phase 2 to stay alive and wait for Shadowfiend to come off of cooldown (used it immediately when Attumen spawned in Phase 1).
Not bad, will be doing this every week until the mount drops.
Also, worth noting that I'm not attuned to Kara on my Priest. I pulled mobs near the entrance and let them kill me to corpse-walk through the gate.
Well, I can be the first on this page at least to say soloed as a level 80 rogue. It was a very close fight, but I specced for dodge and had Lifeward enchants on my weapons. Be sure to save Cloak of Shadows for Intangible Prescence, as this is a race to see who can kill the other first.
I believe I ended the fight with about 1000 hp left, but this was without a food buff, potion, healthstone/charged crystal focus, flask, or scroll. I did have Drums of Forgotten Kings and of the Wild. I did not disarm Attumen, but at the beginning of the fight it is crucial you get them to phase 2 pretty quick, so global cooldowns are valuable. Took me 2 tries to get him, and overall he is pretty easy, easier with more buffs.
My rogue was geared in all 264 gear except for 5 pieces, which were 245 or higher.
is the spec I used.
Piece of cake for any decently geared lock. No PvP items required.
Glyphs: Siphon Life, Soul Link + Quick Decay
Voidwalker us your pet. Keep Curse of Weakness + Corruption on both Midnight and Attumen.
1) Dot up Midnight.
2) Let your Void pick up Attumen.
3) Kill Midnight (keep dots up, Drain Life, keep Corruption on Attumen for better healing.
4) Kill mounted Attumen.
Warlocks are great tanks, ain't they? GL on your mount.
I just discovered a rather annoying glitch on this guy, not sure if it's known or not, but it's news to me. Be careful how low you get them both in the first phase!
I was soloing him on my bear druid (cat gear) and for simplicity I usually 5lacerate, mangle, and faerie fire both of them, then maul for serious damage, and get them both down to ~25% at the same time. usually 1 is about 26 or 28% and the other hits 25% resulting in 26-28% on the combined boss. Today this worked a little differently, I ended up with one at 23% and one at 24% from a 11k maul crit, and when they despawned to combine, *neither one* came back. I didn't get saved and have it count as a kill, thankfully, but I had to leave and do a full reset for them to respawn, and fully clear the trash again. I waited about 10 minutes for him to respawn without a reset and he didn't, so unless he already has an unusually long respawn timer (or even if he has one) you'll want to avoid despawning him in this manner.
TL;DR : if both midnight and attumen pass below 25% health before they combine, the boss despawns and requires a hard reset (leaving the instance and clicking "reset all instances") to respawn, which also respawns his trash and ultimately wastes an annoying amount of time.
Can't imagine this being a common problem, but I hope to keep others from encountering it.
I soloed this today as a Combat Rogue with ICC25 gear and the new Recuperate finisher. Once you get past the first part the damage does down and it is smooth sailing so I would suggest using evasion at the start.
Solo'd in 4.0.1 as a fire mage in 269 avg ilvl gear. Actually 1 shot it, trash was harder!
Mana shield up, pull Midnight from range with a pyro, nuke away, refreshing mana shield when it's used/off cooldown. I got down to about 30% hp as he entered phase 2 - LB up, pop mirrors and glyph'd evoc back to full health (though this was probably not necessary) and burnt him down before the images wore off.
I did just solo him on my mage!
Very easy solo as Shadow Priest, in near-full ICC25 Heroic gear. Just nuked 'em down, putting DoTs on both the horse and Attumen for extra VE healing, then just straight nuked in phase 2.
Didn't have to use any CDs, and didn't take much damage at all, either. Should be an easy solo even with 5man gear.
I have been soloing this guy as a bm hunter, It is soo easy now after the patch. I had my worm on midnight and when she got low in health attumen spawned and came after me. I Feigned death and attumen DESPAWNED a few seconds later midnight despawned. what the hell?
Solod by my demo warlock in full T10 (277) equipment.
I decided to take a shot at this guy tonight. I might be doing this in the future, but I can easily say the trash is the most hellish part of this. Otherwise, pathetically easy boss for a hunter. Just stand close to him in P2 to avoid the charge and its tank and spank.
Any idea what he drops?
I soloed this on my Rogue earlier. I was surprised because I wasn't even able to solo Vanilla raids during Wrath endgame content.
I also soloed all of Kara.
Have been soloing with my Shaman in Enhance. Make sure to drop Tremor Totem while you plow through the adds on the way to the boss, as they can Fear you. On the boss fight, I also benefitted from having Healing Stream (glyphed, for triple-resistances) as my water totem, during the actual boss fight. I also popped a glyphed Stoneclaw (for the damage-absorb shield) at times, then switched right back to Strength of Earth, to keep my DPS up. (The shield stays on you, even if you switch away from Stoneclaw)
*Keep your DPS on Attumen, and not Midnight, before Attumen mounts up.*
1. Feral Spirits
2. Fire Elemental Totem
3. DPS as normal, in Enhance
p.s. -- Had Attumen's mount drop to my Priest just a few weeks ago, after about three months of farming with my Pally wife. Very, very sexy. (The horse, I mean)
If you are trying to solo as a Shaman, do not use earth elemental totem, whenever attumen mounts, he will glitch out. Just go out and reset the instance. Tried using the earth elemental totem again, but deleting before he mounted, he still glitches out.
85 Arcane/Frost Mage - easy fight. Solod 1/19/11 in Arcane spec 342 GS.
Pretty easy as a quest-geared 85 Frost Mage, too - my health only got low cause of my own stupidity - iceblock (to get him attacking my Ele), and bandaids worked perfectly fine, though :D Trash is a PITA, but only cause there's so much of it xD
Aand as a Fire Mage too. He has nothing to oppose a cata mage. 3 mobs in Deepholm pulled together are harder that this guy. Just nuke him, ignoring his damage. You can pop up Time Warp or Mirror Image, but it is not necessary at all.
500gold, rare mount, fun fights, done in about 1 or 2 hours depending on how long the chess event takes. 2 guides explaining how to solo Karazhan:
Easily solo'd as an 85 shadow priest in PvE healing gear and a PvP shadow spec. I'll try it in my disc spec next week, and see how it goes.
Soloed by a combat 80 rogue, havent make any vids but can do one when u want if need any help
This boss drops
Schematic: Stabilized Eternium Scope
I thought I'd chime in and say he was easy as an arcane mage. No problems to report.
If you "accidentially" burst the horse down so fast that you kill it before they merge, his rider will poof after dying and be unlootable. To fix this, go out of the instance, use Reset all instances, and go back in, the horse will be back up (along with the trash).
Still easy to solo, just did as an 85 prot paladin in heroic gear, with a couple epics.
I was not aware that attacking him summons all the previous mobs to fight you, however, without even using bubble or LoH they pose no real threat, just get the horses down fast if you do it this way, as they can chain stun you, which took me down to about 50% health.
I was lucky, I decided to do this on a whim, and I got his mount, very good day for me!
Is this boss bugged? Because today (some minutes ago) i tried to solo this boss.. Got Midnight to something like 30% hp, then it disappeared, but Attumen didnt spawn.. So has anyone else encountered problem like this?
Irrelevant/trivial I know, but this could be the only boss where you can switch your gear during the fight.
If you are a ranged dps, if you could get Midnight down to 70% before it reaches you, Attumen will spawn out of range and will not aggro, once you get Midnight down to 20%, it will run back to merge with Attumen, which is the funny part, you get out of combat, and Attumen will not aggro, standing there waiting for you to kill. Before you attack Attumen you are free to switch your gear/spec, or even hearth out.
Just find it amusing.
I was just in Karazhan to farm Knothide Leather and ran by him and thought I'd give him a try.
Very easy to solo. Just soloed him as 82 Combat Rogue with leveling blues/greens. No specific tacs, just nuked and used
dropped on first try...
Make sure that you clear the area of all horses and undead because as soon as he spawns, they all come to help! LOL oops!
Today I managed to kill Attumen before he mounted Midnight, and the boss fight ended with zero loot and did not create a lock to Karazhan. Resetting fixed it, but still, to avoid the hassle, make sure you let Attumen mount up after Midnight dies.
Marksmanship (7/31/3) Hunter.
Ballinhunts, of Kargath-US.
Using a turtle as the "Go-To"
pet, I find it easy to solo (duo really) all of the old content as an appropriately-spec'ed
I advise the use of
Glyph of Mending
Glyph of Misdirection
as two critical Major Glyphs, the other choices are yours to make.
As has been previously mentioned,
Attumen the Huntsman
is indeed a pushover.
Send in your pet to attack
Attumen the Huntsman
spawns, then Misdirect both him and
and DPS them until they're forced to combine. Lastly, Misdirect the mounted-duo to your pet one more time, and win!
Don't forget to not kill
too quickly or else you'll have to reset the fight!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in-game!
Got two Fiery warhorses in two weeks.
I don't believe that I have see it anywhere on here so here goes. Do you need to be on 10 player Heroic
or what to get the mount to drop?
As today with the 5.1 old raid changes, we can try this boss every week without the need of another player.
Note that if you 1 hit him, he will die before jumping on his horse leaving you with no loot.
Today I recognized: Attumen was a walk in the park solo since Level 80. As I have 11 80+ Chars, I finally realized, I can try him 11 times a week (plus additional 4 times on another server and faction) As mounts are accountwide nowadays, my main would have it as well, when I got it on an alt.
So I went in with my hunter, who has never seen it from the inside before and there it was. The Fiery Warhorse. What I want to say, if you haven't noticed already by yourself.
Mounts are accountwide. And you can easily solo him on any level 80+ char. Just keep yourself to the original order (clear the room, kill midnight, wait for the mount up, kill Attumen) and you should be fine.
I would just like to say that the Night Blade dropped for me in this raid from Attumen the huntsman just so everyone knows another thing that drops here :)
To Monks, Shamans, Hunters, Warlocks anyone else with super pets:
At this point our pets are powerful enough to 1-shot Attumen on their own. As a Monk I had my Xuen out during the final phase of the Attumen fight and Xuen promptly ate his face. This caused me not to receive credit for the kill, no loot to spawn, AND for me to be locked to the instance, effectively losing my mount chance for the week. -- I tried to submit a ticket, because this made me sad inside, but after several days I just received a canned message that pretty much told me to go to WoWhead and read stuff. Don't be sad like me, don't let your pets punch him before you do.
tl;dr: Don't whip your tiger out.
Gotta love how quickly we can kill things now.
One shot the horse. "Come midnight, let's disperse this petty-AUGHHH always knew someday I would become the hunted...."
Another easy boss with very low drop rate;) I guess it could be worse. You could be killing 12 bosses to get same "very low" drop rate...Killing the huntsman on two toons for a while.
Im killing this one with 5 100lvls each week since few months. still no luck.
Got this hideous mount this morning after about ~45 runs total over the past several years. You get the achievement as soon as it goes into your inventory, not when you use/learn the mount.
