Moroes is the gatekeeper mob for Karazhan. It is fairly difficult. Practice and experience will be the key to taking him out.
Moroes is found in the Dining Hall. He will have 4 adds with him that are randomly selected. It is not necessary to kill all 4 before Moroes, but it is advisable to kill as many as possible and shackle the rest. Current strategy is to kill at least 2 and at most 3 of the adds and the order of which they are killed is determined prior to the fight.
The males are usually melee classes while the females are usually casters. The usual strategy is to shackle the male and kill the females first. If your raid lacks priests, have a Paladin Turn Undead, a Hunter Frost Trap, or an off tank handle the adds.
The fight will consist of 4 of these 6 adds arranged in (my) preferred kill order:
Lady Catriona Von’Indi: Holy Priest
Lord Robin Daris: Mortal Strike Warrior (this guy can single handedly wipe the party if left unchecked)
Baroness Dorothea Milstipe: Shadow Priest
Lady Keira Berrybuck: Holy Paladin
Baron Rafe Dreuger: Protection/Retribution Paladin
Lord Crispin Ference: Protection Warrior
Moroes is not a timed fight in the traditional (enrage) sense. However, he does have the ability Garotte where it will put a 500 physical damage BLEED dot on a player that lasts for 5 minutes. This can be removed with Stoneform, Luffa, Divine Shield, Ice Block, or dying. Typically, a raid can sustain up to around 3 bleeders after which the healers will start to feel the strain. It is important to kill Moroes before the bleeding overwhelms the healers.
Moroes will occasionally vanish during the fight. When it reappears it will return to player with the highest aggro. Moroes himself is not exceptionally difficult, but the combined effort of controlling his adds within a short period of time and the increasing urgency of players bleeding all over the carpet makes this fight very intense.
Moroes will enrage when its health falls below 30% and this ability cannot be tranquilized.

His blind can be dispelld.
Frostmage's Water Elemental ranged Frost nova is great for pulling.
Had the tank and 2 priests standing at my position in front of the boss and in 30m range to him an both near adds. Got elemental and used frostnove same second when tank shooted the boss, all 4 adds in frostnova, boss running to the tank. Priests have 8 sec to cage the adds, hunter to pull into trap and offtank to get to his add and gain aggro.

On our first atempt so far we had 2 priests and 2 shadowpriests so we shackled all the adds.. worked really well but then MT got blind/gouged etc and we wiped.. but with alittle more practise i think that will be a rather good way of killing him

Dwarf rogue ftw! Stoneform is the best racial for alliance since it can be used in so many situations. Dwarf tanks can SF out of blind and garrote, so they will be the better tanks in terms of sustainability for this fight.

Noticed this yesterday: One of our mages tried Detect Magic on Moroes and we noticed that he was buffed with Blessing of Might. This buff wasn't on him on pull, so I believe that his adds actually buff him/other adds when not in CC'd. A bit after vanish this buff was always re-applied. Note that vanish will also wipe all debuffs on him.
So if you have time, apply Detect Magic to see buffs and dispel them.

Depending on the particular group of adds you get, its not a bad idea to use amplify magic on the raid. Effectively the healers gain an extra +240 healing (if the mage buffing doesn't have the magic attunement talent.) The extra healing makes a noticeable difference in keeping the garrote in check.
The only danger of course is the offensive caster adds, but they're generally removed from the equation quickly enough to be worth it.

A good geared tank can prevent gouge by dodging, parrying etc.
We use a rogue or 2 on the boss next high on aggro list after the tank. So they are ready to evasion tank when the MT gets gouged. When tank gets it back, the rogue used evasion, vanishes to prevent one-shot death on next gouge.

you can COMPLETELY remove the gouge issue from the fight. anyone who has played a rogue knows that gouge is a frontal attack, so whoever is tanking morose turns as far as they can sideways while still being able to attack and they wont be gouged.

A small tip!
If it looks like your raid is going to wipe, you can run out of Moroes room and he will reset normally as soon as you are in the next room. He did chase our tank down though and kill him, then another member ran into the ghost patrols out there, but oh well :)
If you don't all want to wipe and save a bit of cash and some buffs, run out of his room and reset him.

I have spent some time theorycrafting on this fight to try and help, and there are alot of strategies that can potentially help.
Heres something that should help the priests. There is a function called /focus. you target your ghost you shackle and type /focus. Then set up a macro /cast shackle undead. This way you can always shackle your ghost without having to ever change target. You can do a shackle inbetween heals on a tank.
This is one however I have not tested so please refute this if you have tried, Limited Invulnerability Potions (
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=3175
) could be used as a preventative measure to stop garrotes
Every time Moroes vanishes, it means hes going to garrote someone when he reappears. So while he is vanished a raid uses these potions and they are then invulnerable to the garrote (immune). Only drawback is that this shares a cool down with mana potions on the other hand you only have 3 to 4 garrotes per fight and this would relieve healers. Again though this is all theory, if anyone tests this and can tell me if it works tell me. A raid would have to know how long he is vanished though to know to do this, since it only lasts 6 seconds.

I've been told you can have melee tank the caster adds because the do very little melee damage and can be locked down by stuns or interrupts. The sword and board warriros can then be OT during the fight since he is doing relatively little damage. It is also important to note HP levels. The warriors have a lot moe HP than the other classes so often they are best to CC just to save time as the garrotes will get to you after time.

This is a simple fight that requires quick reactions from your CC classes.
The MT makes the pull by shooting one of his adds. They then move Moroes to the end of one of the tables where he is tanked. Healers and ranged dps stands in the middle of the table. We use 2 priests with /focus macros to keep 2 of the adds (the prot tank, dps warrior, or holy paladin) shackled the entire fight. A hunter pulls one of the caster adds (usually the holy priest) into a trap. I (a rogue) pulls the shadow priest or other add to a feral druid in bear form. We use a druid like this because the adds do a fair amount of dmg to leather and healers need all the mana they can get for the garrotes later.
The add I pulled to the druid is killed 1st, followed by the hunter CC'd add. After that dps is focused on Moroes. The feral druid (wearing healing gear before the fight starts) switches out of form and is in charge of healing the people that get garroted with mainly hots and small heals.
By this time Moroes has usually vanished once and the tanks have had plenty of time to both generate a fair amount of aggro. From there dps opens up on Moroes as hard as it can and it's a race to kill Moroes before the garrotes kill us.
We also use a shaman in the dps group for bloodlust and to quickly dispel the blind (as an above poster said, your MT can get gouged and the OT can be blinded in rapid succession, this usually ends in a wipe).

Some tips that help my raid bring down Moroes.
1) Why find out that the most serious problem was that our healers get out of mana near the end of the fight even thought we have a restoration shaman using mana tide and all healers using mana pots when they have cd.so its good if you manage to kill the two adds (we always keep 2 adds sacled tiil the end) without healers spend too mauch mana..so they have it for later when people start bleeding..3 dps class...a frost mage , a rogue using crippling poisons and a hunter can be able to kill the two add you will select to kill first kite them around the middle table without needed to much heal from healers..
2) About the bleeding thing that actually is the hardest thing in this fight...we found a nice trick that work well since the only one that can remove it in our raid was a frost mage.(we are horde so unfortuntly no stoneform for us) so ...ppl get bleeding no matter what class they are..healer range dps etc..all gather near moroes..i mean near the tank..and with our two restoration shamans spam! chain healing all of them take an amount of heal good enough so they dont die..the two priest we have keep always the two adds sacled and they renew ppl bleeding..and ofcourse renew in the tank actually this system with chain healings and renews works very well..
The whole raid was ...MT,OT,two priest, two restoration shamans, hunter rogue, frost mage, elementary shaman...if you see we only have 4 dps in the raid but with the chain healings when ppl gather around main tank we can hold on and finish the battle with 5 or even six ppl bleeding...

As someone has mentioned before, the focus macro will make keeping your mob shackled a lot easier. A LOT easier.
/cast Shackle Undead
Target the mob you want to focus, and type /focus.
Using the macro will cause you to shackle without losing your healing target and will save a lot of time in that respect. Just thought that this all deserved a second mention.

It takes some coordination to deal with Moroes, because he comes with 4 guests, which vary each raid. You need to be ready with a plan of what you will do with each guest, and people have to work together, particularly if a crowd control measure slips somehow.

One tip for shackling Priests who go low on mana. Be careful when using Shadowfiend, because when Moroes vanishes our "smart" pet will go attack the shackled mob (they stop if you reshackle it).
So, remember to keep an eye on your shackled target if you have to use your Shadowfiend. Or don't use it at all if you don't feel confident enough (e.g. when learning the encounter).

Tanked Moroes for my first time recently, and was surprised to see I was taking Critical Hits of 5k-6k (regular hits were around 3-4k).
My defense is ~510 and I was still being critically hit. I understood that staying over 490 def. negated the chance of being hit by a crit - is this simply an incorrect assumption (Is this where 'Resilience' gear would come in helpful)? Is this the 'normal' amount of damage tanks can expect to take from Moroes (I had 12.5k health / 14k armor) ?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

Usual Group makeup:
Prot War Tank,
Feral Druid OT,
2xHoly Priest
1x Resto Shammy/Druid
2xLock
2xFire Mage
1x Combat Rogue (me)
Shackle x2 on Melee Targets, OT 1 other....finally....the other caster....
Depending on which u get we go for the healer first...
Crippling Poison on rogue offhand....apply....follow...stunlock and dps while the locks and mages wtfpwn her down.....same again for the one being OT'd.......if they go down super fast....we take a third to be safe, then go crazy.
On the odd occasion we have a shadow priest in place of one of the locks or mages.....3rd shackle instead of OT, still take down the 3rd depending on MT's threat / how quickly the first 2 go down. GG

1 Shaman (Elemental)
2 Druids (1 Feral, 1 Restoration)
2 Mages (1 Fire, 1 Frost)
2 Warriors (Both Prot)
1 Hunter (Marksman)
Priests Shackle Undead the Shadow Priest and Ret Pally, Hunter Ice Trapped MS Warrior. MT tanked Holy Priest while OT tanked Moroes. Burned down the Holy Priest. MT switched to Moroes, got good aggro, then everyone unloaded on Moroes. Healed through Garrotes. MH died because he was low on health and got Garroted, BRed him. Burned down Moroes the rest of the way.
Moroes is in my opinion the hardest fight, and is a big gear check.
Priests must stay on their toes for Shackling. The MS Warrior must be stopped from running around, he will 1 shot clothies and most leathers. I do not suggest killing the MS Warrior as he does have 20,000 hp more than the others, and hits very hard. In the time it takes to burn him down another 20,000 hp, your MH might be getting Garroted.

Can anyone confirm whether Moroes is an optional boss or not? We'd like to skip him and grind straight to the Opera Event if possible, and have heard about other guilds doing this, but both Wowhead and Wowwiki report that Moroes must be killed in order for Barnes to start the Opera Event. Is this true?

Anyone have any thoughts on the garrote targeting. I have been told that it is random but I am doubtful as I have noticed the same targets getting hit in similar order in consecutive attempts. I have across 4 Moroes fights been garroted twice in a row every time.
(PS I am a dwarf hunter so it could be dps related. Also I got out of the first one with stone form.

If your tanks are warriors a useful strategy to deal with the Garrotes is to have them Intervene the healers afte each Vanish. While healers can sustains DPS members with Garrote, it is much more difficult to sustain themselves. With Intervene up, your tanks will absorb any Garrotes meant for the healers and will be healed anyway, thus reducing strain. To do this, simply have your tanks use an Intervene macro that is keyed to each of your healers and use it as soon as Moroes Vanishes. This does add a little more stress on your tanks but can save the encounter.

We have our MT engage the fight and pull Moroes all the way left, we have a lock set up his imp in the spot. We have Baroness Millstipe Shackled until after we down Moroes. We have ALL Dps classes on the holy priest/pally and Dps them down ASAP! We fear the warriors, and trap the ret pally. Take down the holy priest/pally first, then the ret pally, then warriors, then we take down Moroes, then Baroness Millstipe. Moroes is a difficult fight. We have MT get as much aggro as possible and have our main healer stay with him and only him. Cross healers heal the rest of the raid while they down adds. Moroes vanishes every once in a while and casts a nasty nasty nasty garrote on a random raid members. If it is casted on a healer we get a pally to BoP them to remove a garrote, anyone else we just consistently have a HoT on them. Moroes also gouges randomly, but most of the time our MT resists it, in the case he doesnt resist it he normally goes to the person with 2nd aggro, so try and have your OT get 2nd aggro. After you down Moroes, get a little mana regen going and keep Millstipe shackled. When you got some mana just rip Millstipe apart. Have a priest just devoted to shackle, dont have him Dps any mobs just consistently recasting shackle. Difficult fight, stay focused, Good luck with the garrotes.

I have found the best way to kill Moroes, if you have 2 priests and a hunter is to use this strategy.
Shackle Undead both the MS Warrior and the Prot Warrior, Ice Trap the Holy Priest. Have a rogue evasion tank the Shadow Priest and just burn her down as fast as you can, then burn down the Holy Priest and have the other priest Shackle Undead the Holy Priest, both should go down fast. This leaves you with 2 adds and 3 CCs just incase any problems arise later on.
Have your MT and OT build threat on Moroes while everyone DPS's down the 2 adds, once both are dead, everybody unload on Moroes, BUT do not pass the OT in threat. If a healer gets Garroted and you have a paladin, have him use Blessing of Protection on him/her, mages can just Ice Block out of it. If a priest gets Garroted and it cannot be dispelled and for some reason that priest dies, have your hunter take over CCing his/her add. Just burn Moroes at this point and keep extra heals on Garroted people.
I know what you're thinking, don't do it. Do not have a paladin fear an add. This is bad, we tried this. If the add gets feared out of the room, Moroes will reset. This happened to us when Moroes was at 15% and we were pissed.

He also uses... Deadly Throw?
We were having a long fight due to having lost a couple dps to the adds, and we were slowly burning him down. At the 10 minute mark, he hit our tank with a Deadly Throw for 5.7k damage, which pretty much killed him. If that wasn't strange enough, the tank was in melee with Moroes at the time. He was down to only around 2-3% by then, so we killed him before we got to see him use it more. After the fight, the tank looked over his combat log, and saw that Moroes had indeed hit him with Deadly Throw.
The only explanation I can think of is that he might actually have some sort of timer, and when it expires, he starts throwing.

Welcome to Dinner!
Moroes is the first real test of raiders. This is a dynamic, chaotic fight that requires skilled execution by all participants. It's also a gear check, especially on the damage-dealers. A single player that doesn't execute his role well can make this fight impossible to win. This fight can be a rude awakening to the difficulty of Burning Crusade raids. New raiders that have trouble here can get excellent practice and gear from running heroic-difficulty dungeons before returning and trying this again.
Moroes is a required boss. Killing him opens the Opera event and stops respawns of a large amount of trash on the way to Maiden of Virtue.
The key to this fight is all in the planning. All of the dinner guests must be managed in some way to keep them from killing the healers and damage-dealers. Every dinner guest will be shackled, trapped, off-tanked, or nuked. Each guest must be assigned to a player. The kill order must be dictated in advance. The plan must be strictly followed during the fight.
Raid Composition
Two tanks. Paladin tanks are best suited to the task, with Cleanse, Turn Undead, Blessing of Sacrifice, and Blessing of Protection.
Two or three healers. Priests are most useful for their Shackle Undead and Renew abilities. Paladins are also useful, as noted above.
Five or six damage-dealers. Shadow priests are useful, as noted above. Damage dealers that can off-tank are also useful.
The Basic Plan
Given the dynamic composition of both raid groups and the dinner party, there can be no fixed strategy. The plan must be concocted by the raid leader upon reaching this boss.
Two tanks maintain the highest threat on Moroes at all times. When Moroes gouges one, he'll start hitting the other, who will need healing.
Three of the dinner guests must be shackled, trapped, or off-tanked immediately, while the fourth one is quickly killed. The remaining guests are killed, one at a time, until all remaining guests are shackled (except possibly the protection warrior). At that point, Moroes is killed. Once he is down, the raid runs out of the room or just kills the remaining dinner guests.
Crowd Control
Shackle Undead
(priest) is the best crowd control, as it can be maintained the whole fight. It should be used on dinner guests that can dispel/cleanse other traps and shackles and maintained the whole fight. The macros mentioned earlier in this page help immensely in this. Shackle Undead should be re-cast every 10 seconds to make sure that it never breaks.
Freezing Trap
(hunter) can be chained to keep a dinner guest under control for a long time. However, it is not ideal, as the hunter must move around, thus losing much of his damage output. Also, it can't be re-applied easily if it breaks early, and it completely stops working if the hunter is stunned or unable to maintain threat. Finally, any dinner guest able to cast spells will do so when it is running from one trap to the next. This can break shackles and get your priest killed. Since killing the first guest quickly is so important, consider off-tanking instead of trapping, to free up the hunter to deal damage. Trapped targets should be killed before killing Moroes.
Turn Undead
(paladin) can be maintained for 20 out of every 30 seconds and can't be re-applied if it breaks. It is most useful in emergencies when a trapped/shackled dinner guest gets loose. It can also be used on an off-tanked guest to relieve pressure on the off-tank. Keep away from the doors of the room when doing this, to avoid resetting the encounter.
Off-Tanking
(any tank) is viable, because one of the tanks will take hits from Moroes only when the other tank is gouged or blinded. This off-tank can control one or even two dinner guests. The off-tank will require intense healing when he has Moroes.

The Dinner Guests
The holy paladin
is the most disruptive dinner guest, with the ability to cleanse crowd-control, heal, and make herself invulnerable with divine protection. Since she has armor, she is the top priority for shackling, and should indeed be shackled the whole fight. If she's around and you don't have a priest, expect a really tough fight. Mass dispel can get rid of divine protection, if required.
The holy priest
is also extremely disruptive, with the abilities to dispel crowd-control and to heal. She also has a damaging Holy Fire attack. She should be shackled the whole fight. If killing her is necessary, interrupt her casts, use a pet to tank her, and be prepared to re-apply shackles and Turn Undead on the other dinner guests that get loose.
The shadow priest
is directly very dangerous, with an damaging Mind Flay, Mana Burn, and Shadow Word: Pain. The Mana Burn can use up a healer's entire mana pool, ruining the attempt instantly. She should not be controlled, but must be burnt down first and as quickly as possible, generally untanked. A hunter or warlock pet can tank, if available. Blow all damage-dealing cooldowns right at the beginning of the fight, to speed this up. Her spell-casts should be interrupted and silenced. Shamans should keep a grounding totem down near her. Her Shadow Word: Pain should be dispelled/cleansed by a priest/paladin.
The protection warrior
should be grabbed by the off-tank early, to give him enough rage to build threat on Moroes. His disarm is annoying, and it may be a good idea to control him with Turn Undead or Freezing Trap after one or two other dinner guests are down and the off-tank has enough rage. He doesn't do a lot of damage and he can take a long time to kill, so it's not a good idea to kill him before Moroes.
The arms warrior
has a very damaging Mortal Strike and Whirlwind. He can, however, be safely chain-trapped or off-tanked, so long as he doesn't run through any crowds. He should eventually be tanked and killed.
The retribution paladin
has Hammer of Justice (a stun on his main target) Blessing of Might, and Cleanse. He does not appear to cast the Cleanse much. Chain-trapping him is possible, but difficult, as he will stun the hunter and take off after a healer. Off-tanking is also risky, since when he uses Hammer of Justice at the same time as Moroes uses Gouge, Moroes will kill a healer. Shamans/priests/mages should purge/dispel/spellsteal all the monsters in this fight to get rid of the blessing, especially on Moroes. Priests/paladins should dispel/cleanse the Hammer of Justice stun off of whoever gets it. He must be tanked before killing.

Dealing with Gouge
Make sure that the two tanks maintain higher threat than anyone else in the raid, to keep Moroes off of everyone else. Anyone who generates higher threat than the second tank will be killed immediately when the gouge hits.
Paladin tanks can cast Blessing of Sacrifice on the other tank to break the gouge effect quickly. Warriors, if they're really quick, can use Intervene to pick up a garrote, which will also break the gouge effect.
When one tank is gouged, that tank should announce the gouge, and healers need to immediately switch to the other tank.
Dealing with Garrote
Paladins use Divine Protection on themselves if they get garrotted. They save their Blessing of Protection for any priests that get garroted (to maintain shackles). Garrote on a tank is a good thing, as it breaks the Gouge stun. Warrior tanks can attempt to catch the Garrote with Intervene after a Vanish. Mages and dwarves use Ice Block and Stoneform to get rid of it from themselves. Everyone else gets a heal-over-time when garroted.
Otherwise, the best way to deal with Garrote is simply to kill Moroes before he can apply it too many times. This is the reason that this fight is a DPS gear check.
Garrotes are removed when Moroes is defeated.
Dealing With Blind
Having one tank blinded while another tank is gouged generally leads to a wipe as Moroes will then attack a healer. Don't let this happen.
Blind appears to hit whoever is closest to Moroes. A melee damage-dealer should try to eat it by getting as close as possible, essentially overlapping Moroes. Shamans, paladins, and druids need to do what they can to dispel the (poison effect) Blind quickly, before a Gouge hits.
Wiping
Unless Moroes is almost dead, this fight is lost when one of the tanks or priests dies. Run out of the room when this happens. The fight will reset as soon as one of the dinner guests leaves the room. Unfortunately, this doesn't clear Garrote.

If the MT is gouged when he is tanking moroes and 1 add at the same time, will the add also drop aggro if the for the gouge duriation ?
And if it dosent drop aggro will its attack break the gouge?
Because if it does then all you need to do is leave one add and keep a ranged class 2nd on aggro and no OT is needed at moroes

Moroes can be defeated with a single tank.
As a feral druid I have been able to do this by simply tanking him with my rear to him. When you first engage him hit him with as much burst threat as you can(maul/mangle/lacerate for a druid) and then turn away from him. This will briefly give you enough threat to stay above the healers. Assuming you or someone in your group is using a timer of some sort, when five seconds are left before vanish you can turn around and face him and hit him as much as you can before he vanishes. Repeat this every time he vanishes. He may still gouge you in these 5 seconds, but he will vanish before he kills someone.
Moroes caster adds do not require a tank as they can be stunlocked but if you do have another high armor dps class in the group that can help. His melee should be shackled or trapped.
When your party has eliminated the adds you need to kill everyone can be on Moroes. If the tank has his sound turned up he should be able to hear when Moroes gouges someone, which will give him a few seconds to turn around, generate some threat, then turn back around. Do this with the above strategy and you should have enough threat to last you the whole fight.
As a side note, if Moroes garrotes the main tank he can turn around and start fighting him with his face to him. Garrote will remove his gouge fast enough for the tank to reaquire Moroes before he goes and kills someone.
This strategy is tough on your healers as the only mitigation here is the tank's armor, making it an ideal strategy for a feral druid. You cannot dodge, block, or parry unless you're facing your enemy. (Although it makes it a little tougher on your healers freeing that extra spot would allow you another healer, or a dps to complete the encounter faster.)

its a good idea for the main tank to turn his back to Moroes if the offtank gets Blind. This stops a Gouge>Blind>kill a healer situation.
Fight is really about add control other than that, Moroes himself only becoming a problem if allowed to stack garrote on most of the raid or if your tanks/healers cant handle his soft enrage.
Shackles make this encounter LOLEASY. In the absence of shackles (we've cleared kara with no priests before..not fun but possible) the encounter becomes a lot more taxing and depends a lot more on the raid's abilities (Hunter's properly specced for trapping, plate/bear DPS offtanks, Kiting, etc).
This raid-ability check (DPS'ers not getting to just stand there and shoot something) is why this is typically the first "hard" fight of kara, being that the boss before and the boss after are considered much easier to learn.

Moroes <Tower Steward> is Karazhan's steward, found tending to guests in the Banquet Hall in Karazhan. Along with four special invited patrons, Moroes fights any uninvited guests to the death. Moroes is the second boss and the first mandatory boss found in this raid instance, and his defeat allows access to the Opera Event.
In The Last Guardian, Moroes was described as Medivh's castellan, or personal house servant. He was an oddly thin man, ghostly in appearance, who wore horse blinders over his eyes in order to escape the wandering visions that plagued Medivh's tower. He described to Khadgar (who had traveled from Dalaran to serve as Medivh's apprentice) how he had seen a vision of him breaking one of Cook's crystal dishes and — despite trying to avoid doing so — ended up shattering it anyway; he wore the blinders until the day he died. He was killed by Medivh in the final stages of his madness, and is now buried beside his master and Cook outside of Karazhan. Moroes has been resurrected by the new master of Karazhan. He is one of the first bosses encountered by adventurers. He has been revived as an undead and wields two wicked daggers when attacking. He seems to have retained much of his personality during life. The party he "holds" in the tower's Banquet Hall includes ghosts of relatives of Darkshire noblemen as guests. Names of all of the NPCs in the Hall, including Ebonlocke who refuses to take part in the festivities, can be found as names of notable citizens of the Duskwood town.
How to deal with Moroes:
The Moroes encounter tests your raid's ability to control several targets while also maintaining high DPS. Success requires a solid control strategy for his four dinner guests. If allowed to go free, they will quickly put an end to the squishies. Control must be established immediately on the pull and maintained throughout the fight.
Once control is established, the encounter becomes a race between the raid's damage output and the building damage caused by Garrote. Each time a Garrote is applied, the strain on the healers increases. Moroes must die before the healing needed becomes too much to handle.
His abilities:
* Basic Melee: 1600–2500 on plate.
* Immune to Taunt
* Vanish: Vanishes without dropping aggro.
* Garrote: A physical DoT applied to a random player character after Vanish. Deals 1000 damage every three seconds for five minutes (100,000 total damage).
* Blind: A poison-based disorient effect that lands on Moroes' closest non-tank target.
* Gouge: A physical stun on Moroes' current target. Breaks on damage. Moroes attacks the target with the second-highest threat while his primary target is stunned.
* Enrage: At 30% health, Moroes Enrages, increasing his damage.
* Berserk: After a certain amount of time Moroes frenzies and throws daggers at random raid members.

Really funny thing is that if Moroes Garrotes the main-tank then you wont really need an off-tank coz by the time he gouges the tank the damage from Garrote will remove the gouge :)

A solid paladin tank is best off AoE tanking everyone, both Moroes and the adds.
Forget shackling, trapping, or fearing. Focus fire down all the adds, starting with the mana-burning Dorothea, then the other woman, then the men; they die very quickly. Have the other tank meanwhile be the only one building aggro on Moroes; the paladin's Consecrate will be also building aggro on Moroes until the adds are all dead. The idea is for the two tanks to be always #1 and #2 (the order doesn't matter much) on Moroes' aggro table so when one is gouged the other will be hit until the Gouge breaks.
If the paladin is the only tank, not a problem. The adds' attacks will quickly break Gouge. Once only one or two of the adds are left, the tank should spin around and keep his back to Moroes to prevent gouge. Yes, this means that the tank will take greater damage, so the two-tank strategy is preferable, but using a single tank is quite doable. The tank should face Moroes when Exorcism is off cooldown just to use it, then quickly turn away again. If the tank is garroted, all the better; the damage from Garrote will break Gouge so he can face Moroes.

Soloable as a protection paladin in 3.0.3, make sure to take out the most dangerous adds first (ret pala, shadow priest (the mana burn hurts) ms war etc.)
When you burst adds down wait for Moroes' vanish and then heal up, if you get a prot warrior add you might wanna leave it up for mana regen through BoSanc.

Easily solo'd by a prot pally in Heroic/Naxx10 gear. Burn down the healer and/or caster first, then the Pally that stuns, then the Prot Warrior that disarms. Keep Sacred Shield up!
If you're having problems, Holy Wrath will buy you some healing time, or time to fear one of the adds

I just managed to solo this guy as a level 80 Protection Paladin, a mixture of 10-man Naxx and heroic gear.
The setup of his adds were; Holy Priest, Shadow Priest, Arms Warrior and Retribution Paladin.
My first time involved fearing the Shadow Priest, and then trying to nuke the Holy Priest down. However, I missed two heals, and as soon as the Shadow Priest got back, it burned me from 100% to 0 mana in 1 Mana Burn.
I simply reset here, and went with fearing the Holy Priest, killing the Shadow Priest, while using Holy Wrath to intterupt a heal when it got back. I then killed the Holy Priest, Retri Pala, and Arms as the last.
I had to heal every now and then, with them beating on me.
Anyway, the adds are definately the hardest part, and I popped Lay on Hands, Avenging Wrath and a healing potion for those, while making sure to stun and interrupt as much as possible.
Moroes didn't hit me at all, except for when he got a lucky Gouge. The only thing damaging me was the Garrote, so I had to heal several times. This is where his Vanish turns into an advantage for you. You should just be able to get a Holy Light off before he returns.
And there's no need to worry about the soft enrage at 30%, I didn't even feel it and just nuked him down (Divine Shield at 8% to get the Garrote out of the way)
----
26,4k health
544 defense
24k armor
Glyphs were Lay on Hands(both minor and major), Sense Undeath and Exorcism -- Those were the only one that had an affect on the fight, as I didn't use any of the others.
----
Was very, very fun and challenging, so now I'm gonna check Opera and hope I don't get Romeo and Julie... if succesful, I'll post it under the opera event.

--“I said I don’t know much,” said Khadgar, louder than he meant to. His voice bounced off the bare
walls of the stairway. It was curved now, and Khadgar was wondering if the tower was truly as high as it
seemed. Already his thighs were aching from the climb.
“Of course you don’t,” said Moroes. “Know, that is. Young people never know much. That’s what
makes them young, I suppose.”--
--“Why the blinders?” Khadgar asked.
“Eh?” replied Moroes.
Khadgar touched the side of his head. “The blinders. Why?”
Moroes twisted his face in what Khadgar could only assume was a smile. “Magic’s strong here. Strong, and wrong, sometimes. You see…things…around here. Unless you’re careful. I’m careful. Other visitors, the ones before you, they were less careful. They’re gone now.”
Khadgar thought of the phantom he may or may not have seen on the overhanging balcony, and nodded.
“Cook has a set of rose-quartz lenses,” added Moroes. “Swears by them.” He paused for a moment, then added, “Cook is a bit foolish that way.”
Khadgar hoped that Moroes would be more chatty once he was warmed up. “So, you’ve been in the Magus’s household for long?”
“Eh?” said Moroes again.
“You’ve been with Medivh long?” Khadgar said, hoping to keep the impatience out of his voice.
“Ayep,” said the steward. “Long enough. Too long. Seems like years. Time’s like that here.” The
weathered steward let his voice trail off and the two climbed in silence.
“What do you know about him?” ventured Khadgar, finally. “The Magus, I mean.”--
"“I am Moroes,” the servant said. “Steward of the Tower. Castellan to Medivh. Blinders?” Again he
raised the black rectangles, twins to those that framed his narrow face."
He does love his binders.

I was able to solo this fight on my Prot Paladin a few minutes ago. I had to use a potion, a couple bandages, 2 bubbles, and LoH, but I did it!
Anyways, the way I was able to solo it was to kill off the Shadow priest 1st (that mana drain is a killer), then I moved on to the healers, and then I just killed off what was left before moving on to Moroes.
Try and keep Sacred Shield up as often as you can afford it. Also remember to remove Divine Plea before you try and heal yourself, you'll just burn up more mana if you don't. Once Moroes uses his vanish, remove DP and use a Holy Light or two. When he comes back, go ahead and turn on DP again once it's ready.

Soloed him with feral druid with good tanking gear.
Some tips, how to do it:
Glyph of berserk(and maul ofc) and improved leader of the pack is the must.
Root one of the melee. Cast regrows on yourself, go bear, pop berserk, pop enrage (I hope you have 3/3 king of the jungle), target healer and kill her. Once she start to cast healing spell - interrupt with bash. You should be able to kill her before she casts it again. Once berserk is over - pop barkskin, you are going to recieve some damage now. Continue to swipe others untill they die. Most likely you will go down to ~10k on this trash. If you have enough rage - pop survival instincts + regeneration combo. If you dont - just pop survival instincts, you will take less damage and regen more life from improved leader of the pack while useing it.
Once all adds are dead, you can heal yourself when he vanish. When Moroes vanish - immediatly cast Healing Touch and regrows. But if you see him appearing - stop casting and go bear.
Most damage in fight is moroes garotte, you can fully absorb moroes melee hits with savage defence. You cant dodge garotte, you just have to heal through it.
You can do solo runs to kara once a week, killing 1st boss for mount and moroes for mongoose+gold. Most likely you will not be able to solo opera event to get to gold trash...

Trivial as a well geared feral druid. All you need to do is mangle/berzerk on the healer, bashing her once when she tries to heal and then just kill the adds down one at a time and focus on moroes - pop out for a quick heal if you need to when he vanishes, but you shouldn't need to. If the garotte gets too much for you just pop your frenzied regen near the end of the fight.

Done solo as a warrior, Bloodthirst tanking (5/31/35) spec. Not overly difficult, Bloodthirst and cooldowns as necessary to get through the first 'phase' (i.e. the adds, killing them one by one), then just tank him to death. It does get a little tense when he vanishes and takes awhile to reappear, since you can't Bloodthirst (no target) or bandage (Garrote, which is still ticking down).
I'm fairly well geared (30.8k HP unbuffed, 541 def) and I'm also a draenei, so Gift of the Naaru was in play. I imagine it's doable without though.

I'd never seen it before, I guess because I couldn't get close enough at 70 without pulling, but if you're fairly close, there's some dialog between Moroes and the four adds. They ask a few questions about
the master
:
Baron Rafe Dreuger says: Where has the master gone?
Baron Rafe Dreuger says: Where is the master?
Baroness Dorothea Millstipe says: I must see the master at once!
Lady Keira Berrybuck says: Why can we not talk to the master?
Moroes responds with a few things:
Moroes says: The Master is resting after his labors.
Moroes says: The master is meeting with his apprentice.
Moroes says: The Master will return from Stormwind soon....

Soloed as 80 blood death knight in tanking gear. Set focus on healer for interrupt, then used army of the dead and IBF at pull.
Dropped death and decay and spread diseases but focused on getting the healer down first. The first 2 adds should be down by the time the ghouls are dead.
Once the adds are down, Moroes himself is quite easy. The fight takes around 5 minutes.

One of the more fun fights to solo in Kara. Did so as a DPS Blood DK in tanking gear. Open with Army as the hardest part of the encounter is the opening and dealing with all of the adds. Kill the adds in this order: Holy Priest, Shadow Priest, Holy Paladin, Retribution Paladin, Arms Warrior, and then Protection Warrior. As each add goes down, the incoming damage is trivialized even more. By the time Moroes is the only one left standing, it's just a matter of laughing in his face and seeing if you can end the fight at exactly 100%. For the record, my tanking gear isn't even that good - I have 2t8, and the rest a mix of ulduar/naxx gear. I used a hit triket and a stam-packed jc trinket as well.
I remember during TBC when so many people hated his garrote (I played a mage, so I always iceblocked it). It does little more than tickle at this point (I believe it did ~900 a tick).

Solod as a Warlock in Aff PvP spec and gear. Spec did pick up the Demo second tier talents instead of improved healthstone though. Moroes himself is pretty laughable, even when he frenzies at low health, his damage isn't too dangerous to a void pet. The adds on the other hand are a real pain. With 4 up your pet will take major damage, and the 4 will kill you pretty quickly when your constant healthfunneling pulls aggro.
Strat:
Begin with an infernal, HF it up a ways if it spawns with 50% HP. Probably not to full, as you only have a minute, but 1 full HF should be enough. Buffing with drums for kings and mark might be needed.
Send infernal in after the healer add, once it engages, join in and burn the healer. DON'T HF the infernal once combat starts. Don't worry about pulling aggro. A single add doesn't do too much damage, and should die fast. If your an engineer, use a bomb to stop the heal cast if needed. (Didn't get a cast off for me)
Switch infernal to next add and again join in. Should kill it before infernal dies. By this time the 1 min on your infernal will be nearly up. Feldom a void and send it at Moroes. Have it AoE taunt Moroes and last 2 adds.
Burn the two adds, the AoE taunt should give you time to get some DoTs up before you pull the adds off the void. Kite and kill the adds. Portal and glyphed shadowflame should be sufficient to keep you alive. Heal void if needed.
Once adds are dead, heal via draining, and heal your pet from 36 yards out. SL damage from garrote should break gouge, but sometimes it takes a moment for Moroes to go to your pet, so keep health up so you can take a hit or two.

This
is the spec I used, and as for the fight, I stealthed behind him, broke stealth (causing aggro, still big aggro radius), then went through my dodge rotation of Ghostly Strike > Evasion > Ghostly Strike > Prepped Evasion > Ghostly Strike. He will Vanish at one point in the fight, so just hold out until he comes back.
I should also mention that I used Glyph of Ghostly Strike and Glyph of Evasion. Last Glyph was Sinister Strike, but this can be Eviscerate and it shouldn't matter too much. Just pop Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush at the beginning and you'll take out 1-2 of his adds through that and Unfair Advantage. Good luck!

Definitely need the Glyph of Feign Death, though, as his Vanish CD is uncomfortably slim--I nearly ate Garrote once waiting on FD to cool down. The new Glyph of Misdirect doesn't hurt, either.

~Moroes the Castellan~
Moroes used to be the Legendary Guardian
Medivh's
personal Butler or House servant while he lived in Karazhan towers. Moroes constantly made reference to blinders (spectacles) that he wore whilst in the tower, these were used to avoid seeing visions that appeared frequently within the ghostly halls. Moroes himself, while alive, was quite ghostly in appearance.
Moroes was quite morbid in nature, never smiling or laughing only carrying out his duties and tending to Medivh's needs. When
Khadgar
was sent to the tower to learn about Medivh, (eventually becoming his apprentice) he met and Lived in the towers of Kharazan under the watchful eye of Moroes, while Medivh was away attending to duties.
Medivh eventually suffered from madness and killed Moroes. "His eyes were wide and open, but his face was surprsingly composed. Not even death seemed to surprise the castellan." (Taken from Wowwiki)

Second Attempt - barely Fail. I was swapping DPS on all targets including boss. Lost mana.
Third Attempt - Success. I maintained DPS on morose and did arc explosion on adds to keep the aggro. Priest helped by tossing heals and occasionally blasting targets. Popped Time Warp to counter the slow.

Worth Noting that if you're good at frogger-ing between trash mobs, none of the trash in the room pulls when you aggro him, so if you just want to kill bosses and get through, and heck with the cash from the trash, at 85 you can dodge around and just fight on the dais.

The main key to soloing this guy is not rushing it.. When I did it the first time, or tried to, I took down the big table, and ignored the small tables. I used Army of Dead and they aggroed those tables and the adds but then they died. Bad idea. I tried again, and didn't even need to do much at all. Applied frost fever and blood plague, and then varied between heart strike, and death strike. The adds are worthless, I ignored them and heart strike took them down. I did this blood specced as a survivability dps, with 42k hp. I really overthought it. Now I can do the other events, and I'm happier that I tried. Don't let this guy freak you out. He's simple.

Just a note to any that are wanting to transmog Moroes weapon of choice. It's the
Gutgore Ripper
. In either its original
level 60
Garr
drop, or the
level 80
Onyxia
rusted (10-man) or tarnished (25-man) drops.
I know that my drop rate is nothing to go by when looking for your own, but I've had the original drop several times (about 4) in my two months of farming bindings in Molten Core. I'm only saying this because at 85, I can go in there by myself and kill all bosses without agroing anything. Pretty quick and
without the aid of others
. (Thank you TB raid loggers.)
edit: One more note. Though the shape of all three drops are the same. The skins between the original Garr drop and the Onyxia drops are very different. My preference leaning to the Garr drop over the Onyxia drop. It's more 'shiny'.

Using a turtle as the "Go-To"
tenacity
pet, I find it easy to solo (duo really) all of the old content as an appropriately-spec'ed
Marksmanship
Hunter.
I advise the use of
Glyph of Mending
and
Glyph of Misdirection
as two critical Major Glyphs, the other choices are yours to make.
As has been previously mentioned,
Moroes
and his
Dinner Guests
are indeed a pushover.
Simply Misdirect your (tenacity) pet, and Multi-Shot until the four
Dinner Guests
are dead and then single-target
Moroes
for free purple pixels!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in-game!

His name is a pun/anagram; it's meant to sound like "morose".

Strategy:
1) Repentance one of the adds.
2) Turn Evil another one of the adds.
3) Kill the healer(s) first.
4) Finish off the remaining adds while maintaining crowd control.
5) After the adds have been killed, finish off Moroes.
Class specific:
1) Maintain Eternal Flame.
2) Use Shield of Righteousness in between Eternal Flame usage to buff your self-healing.

Apparently Moroes has survived all these countless encounters on his 'life', as now he awards an item through your garrison to make your character naked. :D (Moroes' Famous Polish)
