If these guys drop those epic boots why is he so low
As a level 44 rogue I easily killed this mob as well as a level 43 ironjaw croc which was next to him. Only abilities I used were evasion, blade flurry and blood fury.
He dropped the mail leggings.
How often does this guy spawn? Ive ben hunting him and finding him every day until today and yesterday he hasnt shown at all it seems. Just wonderin what the spawn time is.
According to the official
World of Warcraft Atlas
, this mob is rated as Uncommon rarity with a respawn timer of ~5-8 hours.
well I didn't get the drop I wanted but, I did get one I don't see how you couldn't get a drop off a rare I do every time it seems
I don't see any Scale Belly at that location. Ironjaw Basalisks, but no Scale Bellys. I went through the whole cave and killed about 40 Ironjaws with no good drops.
easy soloable as a level 40 arms warrior, retalation, demolizing shout, rend , and then spam him with overpowers / heroic strikes.
Im suprised no one has posted this but:
Scale Belly is the only mob in the game that drops the "
" a level 40 UNIQUE sword that is referred to as the "Rainbow Sword" because of its unique Enchant to have the colors of the rainbow. Bear in mind it has a 1.1% Drop Rate so you maybe out there a few tries in order to get one to drop despite it is completely useless but with the 4.3 Transmorgifyer you will be able to wield the "Rainbow Sword" once more. GL and happy hunting :)
Edit: Corrections and Additions.
I've been camping this mob for a few days now and the spawn is around 3 hours give or take about 45 minutes. More often than not it has been within about 15 minutes of the 3 hour mark.
Scale Belly spawns inside a cave and the coordinates given above. I'm mentioning this since I was going around the cave on the outside area for a while and was missing the entrance.
I went into the cave, veered to the right, and saw a number of crocs in this area. Killed them and saw that Scale Belly was up on a raised ledge. Killed him and dropped a green.
As of the latest patch, Scale Belly's got a new texture. It is now a green and violet large Basilisk instead of a Yellow and Orange one.
This is a very pretty, uniquely colored basilisk. Gorgeous pet for lower level hunters to tame if they come across him in STV. I have a lvl 85 hunter and a lvl 55 hunter, and I want this gorgeous purple basilisk on both of them. People seem to be camping him lately, though, so he's been tough to find! Good luck to any hunter wanting his unique look!
I've killed this lizard so many times that I feel we've become friends. He still won't give me his sword though. Bad lizard.
ok i killed this guy and then wsg popped so i went in. did not take the full 25 min. a sad loss :( anyways came out and he was there again! no sword either time :( has anyone else seen him respawn this quickly?
With the level change to the zone, it is safe to guess that this mob no longer drops the
any more, consider the fact that it sounds unreasonable for a lv.31 mob to drop a sword that requires lv.40 to equip. This is similar to
, which used to drop from a lv. 49 rare which was later changed to lv.33. It's a shame.
I found him in the Crystalvein Mine.
I made myself cry because I killed him & I didn't know he was a rare(I was targeting random basilisk so I wasn't looking at his picture) & when I came on here & I seen he was a rare I broke down because I could have tamed him...or looted him.
This guy has popped my Npcscan twice now while i was all the way up in Stormwind. First time I had to come here to look him up because I couldn't find him. The second time I came here to make a post about it. I doubt he's the only one to trip it from far away. :P
This pet IS a unique skin.

Just killed this guy on the PTR with my level 45 alt. It'd be great if we could get more people around level 39-40 to kill this boss and see if we can get him to drop the
with the new scale system.
Because of the new world scaling, if you were to kill this rare as a level 41 character would it have a chance to drop the sword?
As of 8.0.1 BFA Pre-Patch (18th of July 2018), Scale Belly has once again started to drop the Chromatic Sword.
Chromatic sword drops again!
Poor scale belly, Hes about to be farmed relentlessly again
once again drops
Okay, fixing for formatting and clarification and 8.0.1
I have gone through 3 different spawns without dropping the sword (its like 1.3% drop rate) but it's been roughly 2 hours respawn give or take everytime.
Some other things to note.
It gives out 1 piece of gear per everyone in the group. This works best in a group of 5, not a raid. I went and made a warmode group and listed myself. The warmode groups were way way less crowded but if this post gets popular - don't expect it to be much better.
Blizzard also said good luck farming it, so do not expect the item to be removed anytime soon - Chromatic Sword is not a mistake.
Uploaded an ss of the current state of scale-bellie's cave after patch 8.0 and the return of
. Similar to nurmats it's a complete mess with 30+ people aoe'ing at 4:41 am est. Several pleas for an inv have gone unrequited so off to do something else. I can only imagine how it would be at peak hours. It looks like many different servers are all sharded together.
We have camped him today for 4 kills on The Sha'tar-EU and the spawn timer was 2hrs, 2hrs, 1.45hrs between kills
I can't even find that damn cave -.-
Waiting since 5:23 am. Now it's 9:09 and thing still haven't spawned.
@edit Spawned 9:34 and dropped some armor.
Confirm what everyone already knows, I have 13+ kills since 8.0 and respawns all are within
1h30 to 3h
For example, a few spawn of the spawns from Defias Brotherhood today :
I was there for three spawns today on EU-Tarren Mill
first spawn was at 17:03
second spawn was at 18:59
third spawn was at 20:43
My group managed to get loot only one time out of these three because everyone is spamming aoe spells at the spawn location. It dropped some *!@#ty green item worth 40g.
What are the correct coords for the cave! I cannot find it!
Dynamic interval between 1H 06M - 3H 10M
on WW monk with
talent in 5-man group for highest chance. Equip haste gear for shorter RJW swing timer. Stand still on spawn. Class trial works. Realm jump to lowest CRZ. Check multiple CRZ for higher chance. Note spawn timers so you can take safe breaks without worrying about missing spawn. Unlooted corpse despawns after 2-4 mins. Loot is not mailed.
Wowhead lists 65 green items on the loot table (without prefixes or suffixes, unique green items). Assuming all items have an equal chance of dropping, the dropchance of the
is speculated to obey ordinary rare respawn rules, giving it a dynamic interval between a minimum and maximum possible respawn time similar to
albeit with a different interval.

Increasing chance to tag Scale Belly
Consider the following before starting the farm
Should I stay on my own realm and in my own Crossrealm Zone (CRZ), or should I attempt to join a group to phase to a different less populated CRZ?
FAQ and clarification about Crossrealm Zones
Should I realmjump or not?
On one hand, realm jumping causes you to phase a lot. It decreases uptime of being in 5-man groups; it seems unlikely to have unfilled 4-man groups available during jumps.
On the other hand, it is possible to hit empty CRZ pools, especially during weekdays or off hours. Due to the minimum timer, you can safely check other realms for some time after a kill without risking to lose the kill in your the CRZ pool you're farming in.
is permanently camped in all CRZ pools round the clock, I would not recommended to realm jump for extended periods of time, but rather stay in the same CRZ pool if the minimum time since last kill has passed. Before the minimum timer has passed, you could potentially juggle 2 CRZ pools if you can rely on 2 groups with space and if the minimum timers do not overlap, but this is a lot of effort to set up also. The less populated the CRZ pools are, the more effective realm jumping could be.
Should I enable Warmode or not?
Info about Warmode
• War Mode allows you to toggle on and off World PvP on all realms, removing the distinction between PvE and PvP realms.
• War Mode can be toggled on or off in your faction's capital city.
• Players will only see other players that have War Mode on if they have it on, or players that have it off if they have it off.
• War Mode enables PvP Talents everywhere that PvP can happen and provides 10% bonus XP and rewards from World Quests.
While it seems immediately appealing to phase away from your competitors in a crowded CRZ pool, enabling warmode can also very easily start a slaughterhouse PvP party. Dieing, and particularly, dieing multiple times is very detrimental to your uptime and you risk losing a tag.
On the other hand one might also enjoy the PvP action as a change to the very dull downtime and long periods of waiting that this tedious farm implies, especially if you're on the winning faction.
Warmode is reported to not affect RP realms and will still only show players from the RP CRZ which is exclusive to RP realms only. Players on PvE and PvP realms may be phased to these realms through the group finder.
Do I own a monk or should I accept a lower chance of tagging Scale Belly than groups that only consist of monks?
Due to the new mechanics of Windwalker (WW) talent
(RJW) (Infinite duration, 360 8-yard range constant AoE) farming this mob becomes trivial compared to other classes that have to constantly remain active spellqueuing AoE abilities to have a chance of tagging
While the basilisk is factiontag it is immediately killed by any AoE ability, thus making it random which horde or alliance group happens to tag it first. Accordingly a group of 5 WW monks will have the highest chance of tagging.
Note that gear with haste rating decreases the global cooldown (GCD and subsequently also the swing timer of the
. I doubt it has much impact compared to i.e latency, but it could matter in crowded CRZ pools.
When you've decided on a place to farm here are a few things to keep in mind
• Write down the timestamp of a kill. If you're sure when the last kill occured and you know the minimum spawn timer, you don't have to worry about missing a spawn. If you're unsure, you may feel compelled to stay present for longer than necessary.
is tagged to you or your group,
2 minutes (+/- 20 seconds)
between 2-4 minutes to loot the corpse or the loot is lost!
Unlooted loot is not mailed to your mailbox
- This only applies for BoP, +rare quality loot and boss loot (unconfirmed).
Recorded despawn times for unlooted corpse
does not respawn immediately after a realm restart. Furthermore it seems likely that a realm restart resets the spawn timer regardless of the cycle prior to the restart after making this observation on 21 July, 2018 in the RP CRZ.
Last kill before restart: 03:57 AM (1H 50M since last spawn)
Server shutdown: (Timestamp N/A)
Server up: 05:25 AM
First kill after restart: 07:26 AM (2H 01M after server up)
• It is unknown if a server shutdown or maintenance will cause
to immediately respawn or reset the spawn timer when realms are up.
• Full inventory is rumoured to only force BoP/Soulbound items to be mailed to your mailbox. (Unconfirmed)
drop, they always drops in addition to another green item (confirmed, 4 observations).
It is unknown if this has any relation to the

may both drop alone and together with another green item.
Now that Chromatic Sword drops again, universal camping/botting is rampant. Always be sure to right-click - report - cheating when you spot botters camping the area. If Blizz gets enough reports, the automated Battle.net ticket system will alert GMs. It's doubtful that this will generate anything since not enough people care to report bots. The only thing that will happen once botters get there hands on enough of these is that the price will inevitably drop as interest begins to wane.
There are bot campers known on the following servers at this point, including my own and several that I have friends playing on:
Cenarion Circle (my server) - Horde botters
Moon Guard - Alliance botters
Eonar - Horde botters
Thrall - Horde botters
Emerald Dream - Alliance Botters
Good luck. Unfortunately you won't stand a chance against botters currently camping this mob, as they constantly spam AoEs and group up together. I've seen the same players standing in the same spot every time I've logged in over the past 48 hours, so remember to right-click report them when you know for sure you have bots.
Oh I wish Blizzard would remove the sword elsewhere, so us hunters could tame this pretty animal.
I'm amazed by the greed of wow players.
Can confirm farming on my be pally for 6 days at 10:57 today Chromatic Sword dropped for me. No, I didn't sell it. Mogged it. I'm not about to put something on the AH that I worked so hard for.
Was worth it.
I am unsure how this loot scaling works in regard to rare drops. I've been killing Scale Belly with a lvl 28 hunter. Is this going to lock me out of potentially getting the Chromatic Sword? Do I need to gain a few more levels? On the flip side, does killing Scale Belly with a lvl 120 character screw you either?
is a low drop from this rare, found inside the Crystalvein Mine (67.7, 25.7) in
. His respawn time is 1-3 hours. The absolute best way to farm this item is to have a character in Chromie Time parked there, ideally in Warmode on an RP realm.
addon import string:
I could use a hand with this one...second time today I've killed Scale Belly with a trial character, and for the second time today there wasn't anything to loot from it. I'm assuming it doesn't always have a drop? I was just surprised that it didn't even drop a grey item.
It is now up to 5+ kills. Still no loot of any kind.
Entrance to the cave at /way 64.5, 30 in the Cape of Stranglethorn

If you are using Rarity
. I recommend to import this to keep tracking the sword attempt. The attempt chance is not the exact one but important to keep an eye on it. If you have a better import data about it please comment under me thank you.
