One of the more annoying fights in ZG. Not too difficult. This one, the Horde actually has an advantage in Shaman with poison clensing totems.
With that said, obviously, there's going to be a LOT of poisoning going around. So keep your druids and shaman/paladins on their toes.
And that's the easy part. Here's the hard one...
She will switch between spider and humanoid form pretty much at will. In her human form, she will cast a life drain on people that needs to be inturrupted.
When she switches to spider form, she spits an AOE root on everyone near her - ie., the tanks. :( This sheds their agro and she'll charge into the casters and, specifically, the healers.
The way around this is to either a.) Have a VERY fast feral tank on the ball, or b.) Have a second tank at the caster pit twiddling his thumbs. When the root happens, he taunts and pulls her back to the main tank, who then takes her from him.
All the while during this fight, periodic spiders spawn and charge you. There are only a few of them, but over time, they grow and get really strong, so they need to be killed immediately.
If you can deal with all of that, then you've got the fight beat.
The way I ran it was with a three tank rotation.
One main tank gets aggro, then two tanks go in and start pounding on her with sunders etc. After about 10-15 seconds, they backed out to the caster zone, and she would go over to them when she switched form and performed her AOEs.
The key to having the extra two tanks was in case one taunt got resisted. After we got this down, the rest of the fight was pretty easy.
P.S. She always casts Life Drain almost immediately after coming out of spider form, so If you're a priest, start spamming the decursive key and you can avoid any problems.
P.S.S. She usually does two waves of spits before switching back, however it still may be random.
If you're having a hard time, here's a nice alternative.
1 tank is focused on Mar'li. Everyone (including rogues and other warriors) stay at max (~30 yard) range and use ranged dps. Whenever a spawn comes, rogues and warriors kill it while the rest of the raid focuses on Mar'li.
When Mar'li roots the MT, one of the tanks can easily grab her and bring her back, plus you have backup if taunt is resisted.
This tactic takes more time, but less people get poisoned (due to distance) and you have an easier time handling adds. Consider it the "cautious" approach. Also, clear the entire spider area before pulling to avoid pulling an entire spider pack in the middle of the fight...
Something that my guild has found helpful whenever she does her webbing in spider form. When she runs towards the caster group, the warrior that picks her up then becomes the new MT. The warrior that got webbed runs down to the previous warrior's position. This is repeated everytime that she webs. This way, you only have the warrior's changing places.
Also, on the spawns, having hunters assigned to the spawns seems to drop them pretty fast. Rogues usually help with the first batch of spawns then start dps after that.
We have also found it helpful to assign a kick rotation for rogues to interrupt her healing.
Strange...troll guy in these news
he has same name.
Extremely easy to solo as a feral druid (80). Just tank her in bear, swipe adds when they spawn, and bash her life drain. Nothing to it.
As a lvl 80 DK
First of all I would like to state: tanking gear is a must, tanking spec isn't.
Seriously, I tried it when I just turned 80, and maybe it had more to do with my skills at that moment then with my gear, but I found it much easier anyway with decent gear.
My gear isn't that awesome, consists of some selfcrafted epics (BS) and drops from naxx, but I have been doing this in my blue tanking gear that I got from BS aswell.
As for a spec - I am not going to give you any examples. Anyone should know that a DK can tank in any spec he wants, but I have been unholy specced since -forever- and always prefered this. Frost or Blood DK's can just continue reading, doesnt matter that much.
I myself find Blade Barrier / Imp. Icy touch / Toughness important, but then again, this differs from player to player depending on playstyle.
I did never use rune tap.
What spells do you use the most? Well, these bosses don't have THAT much HP (except ony, she is still a b*tch imo) so you don't need to do any fancy stuff.
Icy touch, Plague strike, (pestilence if any adds,) death strike are the most important. These will give you enough healthregen to last through the fight. Death and decay/Unholy blight are nice for some extra DPS on multiple targets, and when I have enough runic power I use my Gargoyle.
Bone Shield, Icebound Fortitude, Anti-Magic shell and any other trinkets you might have will help you through some of the difficult moments of a bossfight
I also tend to keep my Ghoul up, since being a Unholy DK will help the dps output of your ghoul, and next to the raw dps its just another panic button combined with Death Pact.
Since the fight is not a dps race, I tend to use these spells primarely, and all just works out fine. This whole thing you can adapt and play around with, depending again on your spec and playstyle, but nevertheless, the IT/PS/DS are the magic combo for your healthregen.
Easy boss aswell. Just clear the whole terrace where the boss is.
Then the boss itself:
1. Cast Bone Armor/Ghoul /Horn of Winter
2. Engage the boss, use IT/PS/DS, use Pestilence, + Death and Decay and Unholy Blight for extra DPS on the add when it spawns. You need to focus up on this add before it grows though!.
As a level 80 Beast Mastey hunter, I was able to solo this boss very easily. I used a
, though any tenacity pet should be fine. I was
for pet tanking, so a regular BM spec may or may not work.
You can reach the boss without aggroing any trash mobs along the way. Simply watch out for the patrolling spiders. They are weak, however, and can be killed quickly.
Engage the boss by killing the speaker in front of Mar'li. Four spiders will spawn and can be killed easily with Volley. My pet tanked Mar'li near where she initially stood, so there's no worry about trash mobs interfering. The first phase is purely tank and spank. Mend Pet can easily keep up with the incoming damage. I kept Viper Sting on the boss, although I can't say it was absolutely necessary. She'll occasionally put a poison DoT on you, but this can be healed through with just Spirit Bond. When she spawns a spider, have your pet help you kill it, and then resume DPS on the boss.
Phase 2 is a little more interesting. She'll occasionally web your pet in place and go straight to you. Even when I've stood in range of the boss so we both get webbed, she still continued to attack me. Feign Death to return the boss to your pet. She might do this again before your Feign Death cools down. Stand in such a way that your pet can still attack the boss while it's webbed so it can regain aggro, or stand far enough away to avoid the web and run back to your pet so your pet can attack. Continue DPS on the boss; it'll take a couple of phase changes until she's dead. I went through two Phase 2's before I finally killed her.
No problem as a feral druid.
Simply be ready to bash to interrupt her infrequent life drains (which heal her) and throw out a few swipes when her spider adds come along. No problem at all barkskin/shifting out to heal, particularly when she is in humanoid form.
Tried this as a Prot Paladin today - No Problem at all.
Keep Consecration up, heal and cleanse yourself and she is dead in around 20 minutes. It might has been a little longer then needed but I missed interrupting her in the begininning so she healed herself.
A Skilled Hammer of Justice (only 30 seconds CD instead of 60) will help interrupting the Life Drain, but she didn't do it very often.
Nice and quick as an 80 Ret pally, decently geared offspec.
I fought her right behind where she stands and she didn't call any of the surrounding add (besides her usual ones)
As for her life tap, I was able to get my Hammer off both times she cast it.
I solo this boss as an Elemental Shaman in T7.5/Heroic gear. This fight usually takes about 5-7m each time I do this.
For starters, I use the following totems full time (Poison Cleansing / Wrath of Air / Mana Spring Totem / Magma Totem) The point of Magma is that it kills adds by itself and helps tick away the boss. I would suggest using Mana Sheild / Thunderstorm to help keep your mana up.
During human form, juggle 1-2 Lightning Bolts, then Heal. Never use shocks due to the fact when she starts the health funnel you need to earth shock her ASAP. It heals for for 12,000 Health each tick. During Spider form, never let yourself go below 60% Health. Do 1 LB then Heal if your near. The point of this is, if you get to low then she wraps you(Your DEAD). Just take your time, and she falls pretty easily. I enjoyed this solo fight the most as a Shaman. It's pretty intense at times.
Soloing ZG as Retribution Paladin: Mar'li
It's one of the easy fights of ZG. No need to pull a single mob before you engage her. Go to her back and start. The spider adds she spawns are easily killed with Divine Storm, just keep nuking her, instant FoL whenever Art of War procs, and she'll be dead.
My spell setup: Bl.of W, SoC, JoW (only at times needed I used JoL), no consecrations at all. Don't forget to use Divine Plea when it's available.
My gear: Naxx10 equivalent.
Agathoklis, human retribution paladin in Bloodhoof
Solo as lock: No real need to take down any trash in the boss area. I use to take down the group just to the left of her but dont know if that's needed.
Stay close to your minion, use your felguard for dps (you need to outdmg her life drain or if you find a way to interupt it). Kill the spawns asap.
Video of Me (Ret Pally) Soloing High Priest Marli. Most important thing to keep in mind was dispell the Drain Life.
Solo'd High Priest Marli in ZG today as a Ret Pally. For the video click the link below.
Not at all hard to solo as an 80 Death Knight, specced heavy in Blood with some Unholy on the side. I've got pretty good gear (a few purple crafted 80s and Emblem of Triumph gear + 80 heroic blues and purple tanking gear): Defense was at 528, 22k Armor, around 36k HP in Frost Presence, and I was swinging for 1800-2200 with a Tyrannical Beheader.
Light her up and never come off her. Keep spreading diseases and Death Striking for HP, Blood Boiling when she spawns spiders. No worries about the poison, I was able to keep health up through it without Rune Tapping or sacrificing the pet. The drain life she does definitely heals her, so Mind Freeze that.
She was easier than the Raptor boss/Tiger boss/Bat boss. About as hard as the Snake boss.
I found this remarkably easy to solo as a bear tank with 5.2k GS. She only hatched two eggs the whole time. She life drain'd once at about 70%, which I interrupted with Bash, then she went into spider form (only worry here is web stuns, mainly just because they're annoying). Then at around 30% she went back into humanoid form, and my Bash was done cooling down so I could easily interrupt her again.
Easy solo for an 80 resto shaman, just use poison cleaning, magma, earth/water shield depending on hp/mana and FT weapon and stab her down.
A slightly tricker solo as an 80 destro warlock, as you can't really tank her, or interrupt her drain lifes... however, you CAN drain her mana, so if you're careful you can prevent her from casting any heals, making your life simpler. I used my trusty Voidwalker Thannak to tank, and found his threat lacking, but as long as you have some time you can let him keep threat while u whittle away her hp and mana. It would almost definitely be easier as an affli or demo lock, but i didnt try it. It's possible, but a tricky fight.
i was daydreaming soloing her on my ret pally and then she transformed with her big eyes right in the middle of my screen (i had camera up close)
scared the $%^& outta me
She gets a comeback in the Patch 5.2 Throne of Thunders Raid.
High Priestess Mar'li has made her return to Wow as part of the Council of Elders boss encounter in the Throne of Thunder raid added in patch 5.2. Mar'li was removed from the game in patch 4.0 when Zul'gurub was revamped.
I wonder how Blizzard are going to work her in, she's supposed to be dead...
