One of the things this NPC says is: "It's all their fault, stupid Alliance army. Just had to build their towers right behind my farm."

For those of you that did not play Warcraft III, this is a reference to a tactic that involved building Farms surrounding your defensive towers so that enemy melee units could not reach the towers but would have to destroy the farms first before being able to attack them.

Old Topper McNabb was unfortunate enough to have his Farm overrun by the Horde. As previously stated by Entropicdragon, he blames the Alliance army for his current state. He stands in the narrow path at the back of the Trade District, begging for money and hamburgers. I'm sure some people would, but you can't. And I'm quite sure WoW doesn't have a hamburger item yet.

Maybe hes farm is somewhere around Plaguedlands or Tirisfal Glades where are lots of destroyed farms and some Alliance Towers (some still standing, some destroyed). I guess hes farm was destroyed by Undead army, probably by Forsakens when they attacked the city and claimed it as their new capital, Undercity.

This is just a guess :)

I play on a PVE realm and have auction toons parked in Stormwind and Orgrimar.
I'm tempted to just permanently park my 70 horde rogue in Stormwind right by Topper so that each time I need to do auctioning on my alliance toon I can log in the rogue first and kill Topper.
Then at least I can have 5 minutes of peace and quiet to do auctioning at the Stormwind AH, without being bombarded by his incessant banter.
Was funny the first 100 times but he talked like every 10 seconds -_-

Speaking of Newman's Landing. A friend of mine and I went there a few days ago before Patch 3.0.2 and all was as described here, a dock, a hut and some rubbish on the ground.

Now there's a new NPC there named <Hochadmiral "Shelly" Jorrik> (German name, haven't got the English client, sorry). I expect that would probably translate to <High admiral "Shelly" Jorrik. He's a booty faction vendor/repair NPC guarded by two regular Booty Bay style guards.

Haven't found him in Wowhead, Zam, Thottbot or anywhere else yet. I have a screenshot of him and his two guards (and my druid twink ^^) but I don't want to post it here, because it doesn't show Topper.

This fellow seems to be a reference to alot of things.
But one thing that I noticed was his name, McNabb. Noob is often abridged to "nab" and who has never met a noob begging for gold, just like this guy.

McNabb = nab, whining and begging for gold with phrases like: "Help a poor bloke out?" and "Alms for the poor?"

Just a wild guess.

Actually in that movie Eddie Murphy claimed to have been a war veteran and lost his legs in the war. Then the police come over and lift him up out of the wooden crate that he was riding around in and he claims that it's a miracle that his legs are back. Topper claiming that he is blind and then getting caught and saying that it's a miracle is not a reference to anything since it is a thing that has been done in a lot movies. But nice movie and cool that you remembered that since it was barely one scene.

In the 1995 Discworld game there's a beggar in a town not unlike Stormwind that utters "Alms for the poor?". Obviously it's nothing more than just a coincidence, but then again that game was badass.

FYI: if you're tired of him just disable Creature Say

1. hover over chat box till the General tab shows up
2. right click it -> Filters -> Settings -> Categories (Other) -> Creature Messages (Say)
3. now you can have some chat-silence with no need for addons

I was going to guess that this guy's farm was what is now called The Dead Acre in Westfall.

Sentinel Tower is right "behind" it; orcs coming through the Dark Portal would have traveled from Badlands through Swamp of Sorrows -> Deadwind Pass -> Duskwood and across the river into Westfall. Coming from that direction, the farm at The Dead Acre would have been between them and the Sentinel Hill tower.

OTOH, WowWiki says the farm was burned by the Defias, though I haven't seen anything in-game that says that (though there are some Defias mobs in and around the farmhouse), so that may be as much speculation as my own idea is.

I am so depressed that Deathwing didn't kill him. In fact, most of Stormwind got updated, but he still sits there, spamming your chat, exactly where he always has been, completely unchanged. The act of doing nothing has never been crueler.

I will rip out his heart. After the deed is done, I, standing over him, will force our eyes to meet, and with voracity, savageness, and unbridled joy, I will begin to eat it as if I had eaten nothing else before in my life. After the deed is done, I will crouch down until I am inches from his face, my own smeared with blood, bits of heart, and covered from ear to ear with a hellish grin. And I will whisper into his ear:

"Your soul is mine, McNabb. Draw your last breath, so it too can feed my insatiable thirst to bring suffering upon you. What you feel now is but a taste of your anguish during your eternal damnation."

As he does as I told him to do, I will take him by the hair on his scalp, and drag his mauled corpse through Trade District, to be mummified and forever kept as a trophy in my living room. The crowd I have inevitably gathered will silently part for me, until one man near the front will begin to clap slowly. The noise will steadily grow and crescendo into deafening applause, as I walk away and raise one triumphant, bloody fist into the air.

Wish we had the option to hand him like 5 gold, for example, which would "help him out" and in a way, put him on ignore forever. Other players would still see what he says, though, until they help him out as well. In other words, you give him 5 gold and you never see him say anything again.

During the build-up to WotLK, I managed to turn into a zombie and kill him. I had to try a few times because the guards, if there were any left, would kill you most times before you got up there.

It was totally worth it!
