Unless horde are posting a big defense here, he's a nice handful of rep when killed. Being bottlenecked here can potentially lose you the game. He has a fear which he can use 10 seconds after being aggro'd. Aggro him, count to 10, and stance dance. You'll catch the first fear every time. Subsequent fears tend to be 20-30s apart.
I love this guy....he's tougher then the Stormpike Captain(which is fair considering the alliance have a fair advantage in AV)
Has Mortal Strike, Whirlwind and Intimidating Shout. Can be stunned.
With the recent change to fear, where a mob will stick to its target even when feared, it's best to tank him as far from the entrance as possible. I've seen Galvan reset twice due to him following a feared target out of the bunker :/
Having said that, he's not particular hard to tank as long as you have one or two healers who are awake and a tank who can grab & hold aggro. My pvp-specced holy paladin (with 3/3 Imp. Righeous Fury) have tanked him on several occasions, and as long as I had the time to judge Righteousness on him and lay down a consecration, threat was not a problem.
He hits not very hard on a well geared tank (comparison to the amount of HP they usually have) I have my arms warrior and I managed to tank Galv and Drek during the same AV, but i did see my health drop low atleast 3 times during the Drek fight, but this shows u don't have to absolutley be a tank spec just for this occasion. I held aggro with 5 sunders and damage from 2h as well as in Def stance while spamming revenge and taunt helps be high on threat list.
Paradoxically, he drops
Frostwolf Lieutenant's Medal
despite being a
does he really drop weps adn armor? i mean thats kinda odd.
In my opinion Galv is one of the most important NPCs for the horde. Seeing as how we (im a horde player) lose reinforcements when he dies, he should be protected. I find that if he is protected, by at least 5 players, and there area some to defend IB tower, allies will have trouble downing him. And, since the ally have SFGY by this time, Have ppl protect Galv and IB points, take SFGY( though most ppl say its a mistake, but the ally are farther north and can be controlled a bit more) while the rest of the raid focuses on Balinda and pushing SH points. I've proven, many times, that keeping galv alive, securing SFGY, and THEN killng Balinda, is a very effective method... Just follow the book, Peeling the Onion "The How to Guide On Dismantling the Stormpike - By Drek'Thar"
rofl my pet owl tanked him
I'm an 80 BM Hunter - I have the spirit cat Gondria for a pet. We normally get there first ( I ride real fast). I mark & send the cat. If I start shooting I will pull, with my Nesingwary 4000. SO I send the cat and when help arrives I open fire. I almost NEVER see players protecting him.
Defending Galv has to be the single-best AV strategy for the Horde.
As a 2k rated Arena Rogue, I got a couple friends and a few more random AV people to defend Galv in the beginning. 8 of us, together, nearly instantly killed their tank, allowing Galv to run around and help us slaughter the 20-25 Alliance who poured into the room, only to meet their fate.
What's an Alliance tank to do? Their Warrior tank had over 40k health... but no resilience. Very squishy. If a tank gets lots of resilience, then he's most likely not defense capped, and will be taking huge, crushing blows from Galvangar. Principle of 2 weaknesses. He can't have enough defense rating and resilience to withstand both Galvangar and player damage.
Hardest part is getting people to join in defending. Seems people just like to zerg... but if you get a handful of people, and can burst down the tank quickly, it's amazing how a small group can take on 20 people and completely mess up the Alliance team's entire momentum.
Recently I have seen Horde defending Galv (I never PvP on my Horde much anymore, been doing it on my Alli for instant queues) and when they do they always win (If they don't it goes either way), I try to explain to the Alliance team to ignore Galv if there is Horde in there, but they are creatures of habit and often run in and wipe.
Boss himself is a pushover without player help, now that he no longer fear resets like in BC. Slightly harder then Balinda, but still pretty easy.
Should have the title "The Devourer of Souls". He now hits hard enough to twoshot a pvp tank, Cleaves, And has a metric ton of health. With heals he will butcher infinite amounts of alliance
Word of advice when killing Galv
KILL THE TURTLERS FIRST
Captain Galvangar's Fear has been removed from the game as of the beginning of Mists of Pandaria. Sad day.
