Level: Boss
Location: Blackrock Spire
Type: Beast
Background
-------------------------
The Beast is a boss found in Upper Blackrock Spire. It appears to be a Core Hound that has been captured by the forces of Nefarian for use in his breeding experiments. (Experiments on other core hounds could account for the creation of Chromaggus, a core hound-like dragonkin who is the second-to-last boss found in Blackwing Lair.)
At some point before he is encountered by a party, the Beast has swallowed Finkle Einhorn, a gnomish adventurer who has survived in the Beast's stomach for an unspecified period of time. Skinning the Beast will free Finkle.
Strategies
---------------------
Essentially, a tank will need to keep aggro on The Beast at all times as he hits extremely hard and can kill a cloth wearer in 2 or 3 hits, the rest of the raid will want to DPS him. As long as the Main Tank can keep aggro (don't count on this, he fears and random charges a lot. Better to say the main tankS) and you have sufficient healing, this fight should be a simple one. He may drop , which increases skinning by 10, so anyone in the group with a skinning skill of 300 should roll on this if they dont have it already, otherwise it can be greeded. It is vital someone can skin the beast as they can recieve the and also reveal Finkle Einhorn, who is the start of a quest chain.

TIP: The room where the Beast is in is seperated by a Barracade of Burning wood. If you Clear the entire room before "The Beast's" room You will be able to use this room as a place of refuge if your Party dies. If you run past the Barracade you will lose aggro, and if everyone else is dead he should return to his corner and reset.
Also be aware that one of his attacks he often uses will send anyone in range flying upwards a good distance. Not only will the fall hurt, The Beast will more than likely turn from the main tank and attack another party member. Also watch out for his Fear, If you have a Dwarf healer you are in luck due to the fact The Beast's Fear doesn't affect them.
WARNING: Many groups often make careless mistakes when fighting the beast. If you do not clear the room before the Beast's room always remember that there are MOBS right around the corner from where you are fighting, and you might be feared or thrown out into the next room where all of the MOBS are waiting. So make sure you fight the beast in the middle of the room to make sure this doesn't happen.
-Other than all of that ^^^ This fight is fairly easy and there should be very little problem whilst fighting him.
*This is the room your group's Hunter or whoever is elected to "Kite" the last boss in UBRS "Drakk" will run to*

Here is something creepy...The Shadowforge key (

)has inscribed on it the letters F.F.F.Replacing the letters with numbers,A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5,F=6.So F.F.F is actually 666,The Number of The Beast(a little useless but fun :P)

have experienced a bug twice in a row now which really is annoying. In upper spire upon killing the Beast the roll loot appears on the screen how ever The Beast himself cannot be skinned. Why is that? I opened a ticket and GM told me only reason he could not be skinned was because there was loot inside the Beast that was not removed.
Problem is nobody in the 10 man raid group was able to loot it.
GM sent my ticket to a character specialist to have issue looked at.
Has anyone else received this problem?
Strange enough upon exiting the instance, the raid group was completely abandoned and a new party of 4 was created for lower spire, during our run of lower spire all quests could not be completed, no kills counted towards quest boss kills. All 4 of us were players from the upper raid that was previously done.
1 mate contacted a GM and they informed that we were all stuck in raid even tho the raid was gone and a new party had be formed.
Again anyone else experiencing this bug? This was very annoying since we did a full clear of lower spire with only 4 players.
1 good thing came from the lower run how ever, all 3 gems from all 3 bosses did drop for the key quest :)

And the whole 666 thing was pretty clever dude. but not correct. shadowforgeif for BRD and in NO-relation to the door(s) in Lbrs or Ubrs

Easily 2 manned with a BM hunter + Healer combo.
Just get some random to help summon the first UBRS boss and easily 2 mannable all the way, use a Bat or Carrion Bird's Screech to hold aggro off the healer and you can easily farm him.
Pets dont suffer from all the knockbacks so they hold aggro very easily, keep Mend Pet just incase the healer gets charged and your pet wont go below 70% on this fight. Farmed 3 Ace of Beasts so far this week with a guild healer, he gets all drops to DE and we split 50/50 might not be the best for earning gold, but alot of priests and druids after the Darkmoon card! Can easily sell the card for 200g.
Have a bank alt sat with 200g on it at anytime just for buying out low priced Darkmoon cards, made a few Beast Decks decks from Aces not selling, the whole Beast Deck sells for up to 800g easily(depending on server greatly!)
Easy gold for an easy run.

when a numeric level is required for some calculation
so onlyn when that number is needed then itll be calculated like its a lvl +3 mob (so crit and avoid can be calculated right for exaple) Beside of that its just a "dynamic level". wich means its always enouth lvls above you to be shown as a skull
tried alr with my hunter to use "Beast Lore" on him and its says: "not tameable"
but ofc always try to think outside the box, otherwise nothing would change in this world :P

All you need to do is to get a tank to get aggro from a mob then you need to shout him at the left wall at the fence because he wont knockback you there.

Actually you CAN tame a boss. King Dred, in Drak'tharon Keep. The devilsaur. But that guy is not ? level.
Since The Beast and Maghamar are ? level, you can not tame them.
EDIT: I dunno whats so wrong with this comment that it got downrated
referencing information not yet in a live version of the game is likely the reason your post was downrated.

I just solo'd this guy today on my 80 Holy Paladin. The only real problem was his knockback, as the fall took down about 1/4 of my total health. Luckily his other attacks only hit me for about 300 so I just healed up. One glitch I noticed is that, if he charges and fears, you will simply run around through the air, slowly glitching your way down. When I landed i did not take any fall damage, much to my surprise. All in all it was an easy fight, and he dropped my

Tamed him a couple of days ago, as a level 78+ you can skip all the mobs (duh) except for the Arena fight thing. Did it myself with some haste food + elixir, but it only was "fast" enough when I consumed some speed potions. No Bloodlust, so it took like 1 hour worth of tries.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have or anything special on its name! Don't bother if you were planning on taming him for this. Not sure if he was supposed to or was changed recently or I simply misread the comments. Check the screen shot btw.

Just tamed him today with friends there for backup. yes, definitely pull him into a corner. Yes, be prepared for several attempts since he fears, throws a hissy fit, and just is a pain about keeping the channel up. Yes, having heroism and haste pots would have been a big help but we got it done without. and YES! he does keep the (Boss) on his tooltip when you hover your mouse over him!
All in all this was a great, challenging, satisfying tame!

"The Beast" is most definitely tameable, and even solo-tame-able.
My recommendations for taming this Boss are stand with your back to the haystack in the northwest corner of the room,
pull the boss with Scorpid Sting, stack as much haste rating on your gear as possible
to minimize taming time, and if at all possible glug a Potion of Speed for the extra 500 Haste rating. I spent a good four hours attempting to tame it,
until I tagged the boss with Scorpid Sting prior to the tame
. At level 80 that 3% reduced hit chance, makes most of "The Beast"s attacks miss you if you keep aspect of the monkey or aspect of the Dragonhawk up (provided you spent the point in aspect mastery for it). I can also confirm that
"The Beast"
does NOT retain the ? where it's level was
, as of patch 3.3 "The Beast" retains ? where it's level would normally be listed and has a Skull rather than it's level on it's unitframe. It also retains (Boss) where you'd normally see (Elite)
. Also when you use Bestial Wrath, sometimes the graphic does glitch out and you end up with a gianormous Core Hound. I've often had other players complain about this to me. Hope the tips help.
I've submitted a screenshot of it recently with the 3.3 patch after it's tamed so other hunters may see what it looks like post taming.

Easy to solo as a lvl 80.
If you don't want to take as much fall damage, tank him far back in the dark lair he starts off in. You hit the top of that, so you aren't falling as far as if you were out in the open.

Very true, the hunter taming must maintain full aggro during the entire tame. The Beast IS solo tameable but ridiculously difficult to do so. If you plan to bring heals etc, I'd also recommend another hunter/rogue to misdirect or tricks of the trade you before having the priest fear ward & heal you to tame this, in order to maintain aggro.
As I've stated before, if you plan to solo tame this, be level 80, grab a bunch of haste potions, keep your back to the west side of the northwest wall corner,
pull him with scorpid sting to reduce hit chance to hit you
, slam your haste potion, pop rapid fire (because the haste DOES affect taming time) and start taming. Traps are worthless because he cannot be slowed or CC'd. If you're group taming him however, I'd recommend a fire trap to get some extra aggro, but not the snake trap because the snakes will (taunt) and take your aggro. As stated he can't be slowed or frozen so your ice traps are worthless during this tame too.
If he knocks you back or fears you, just feign and repeat the process once you've healed up and your potion & rapid fire cooldowns are up. It takes some patience but you just have to really wait until you get lucky enough to tame him faster than he fears or knocks back. Ideally you want at least 300 - 400 haste rating before potions or rapid fire. Also if you're going to solo this you'll want at least 20K health because he hits for 4 - 6k a pop unmitigated while taming since you have 0 armor during a tame.
Wowhead still hasn't taken my "post tame" screenshots. As of patch 3.3 he retains ? where his level is on his tooltip, and (Boss) and maintains a skull instead of a level on his unitframe icon, even though as of patch 3.3 Elite mobs no longer do.

I tamed this guy over the weekend, and while it was incredibly difficult, eventually I succeeded.
Most of the tips are already mentioned here, and there's some great advice on this page.
I did want to mention that one of the biggest factors in my success was a
Paladin
friend who cast
and
on himself. This mitigated 30% of the damage I was taking and I'm pretty sure it's the only way I survived.
So for anyone who's planning on trying this guy, don't give up! It takes a few times usually but it's definitely doable.

After reading all the posts on how to tame this guy, I came up with my own strategy, with the help of a shaman.
I should mention that I had 16k health, so you can do it with less than 20k, but I would guess that anything less than 14k would cause you problems.
Also make sure not to use any very high dps melee weapons, or weapons with procs.
First have the shaman use Earth Shield on you, activate Aspect Of The Viper, then run in, pull The Beast, and run to the corner with the pile of straw, backing into it as far as possible (if you are as far back as possible he won't fear, only knockback). Have the shaman plop a healing totem down nearby, and start auto-attacking The Beast when he is in range, after a few seconds activate Rapid Fire and start taming. It will probably fail due to the knockback, but the Earth Shield and totem will have stopped you from being killed, so try again. If you run out of mana, auto-attack for a few seconds to build up enough through AotV to activate Tame Beast again. Auto-attacking has the added bonus of causing a fair amount of threat, enough to keep The Beast off the healer, while doing very little damage.
Essentially, keep doing this. The healer should never run out of mana due to not having to use any very often, and you should only run out for a few seconds due to AotV. You should be able to repeat taming many times within a few minutes without dying or having to Feign Death. However, this is a waiting game, although once I had worked out this way of taming, I didn't die again, and had him tamed within 10 minutes.
Most important of all, don't give up or become disheartened. Twice he knocked me with only one second of taming left, but I got him in the end. :)
Additionally, for those who tamed Garwal while he was available, this is very similar, as like the Garwal tame, it takes a while and is based on pure luck ;D

Easy Solo Tame.....dont let his size and abilities fool you.
Blizzard made it possible to easily tame this hound, do you think that stack of hay in the corner is there for the hound to munch on? not hardly, get in that corner with ur back agaisnt the wall, it prevents the fear from being cast....and.....he cannot knock you backwards. All thats left is you staying alive long enough to tame him....or....being knocked off the tame by the hound.
I was lvl 78 when I tamed him, respec to gain max health, potions of speed, wore junk gear with haste bonuses, haste trinkets, etc.
I think my haste bonuses were around 1000 at the time of taming.
Only two major things to consider.....get as much health as you can and boost your haste as much as you can. I had my tame time down to around 13 seconds, try it on any other creatures until you get it below 15.
Took me four attempts....solo.
Feign death if he knocks you off the tame, let him go back into his den, try again. Health and Haste is all you need. Do not let him kill you, feign as soon as he knocks you off the tame.
Oh, btw...hit him with the scorpid sting to pull him out from his den.
Then strut around town with a lvl? boss pet.
The hardest part of this tame was like anything else.....figuring out how to do it. One you know how, the taming is a piece of cake.....dont forget that while taming your armor goes to 0, so dont concern yourself with anything other than health and haste. My health was around 16k, my haste around 1000. Flask of Stoneblood +1300 health ws used also.

use lots of regen healing spells on everyone
then just hope u got good dps to kill it since hes 80k hp.
**Edit the other boss we could not beat beacuse we had no hunter to kite the elites around, we died when he feared the tank, we tryed killing the 2 elites first but they just spawn when we die.**

Just got this badboy today and will real quick share my experience with taming him. I took the advice above to tame him in the corner by the hay bale. I didn't get knocked back or feared once which may have been luck, but went into the whole ordeal with 318 Haste rating + rapid fire + potion of speed + hyperspeed accelerators the engineering tinker to gloves
This brought my haste to 1158 + Rapid fire and it tamed VERY quickly, very painlessly. Between scorpid sting and aspect of the dragonhawk (with aspect mastery) I was only at 13/19k HP when I got him. Not particularly as hard as people make it seem but I suspect my hyperspeed accelerators had something to do with it.

I finally solo tamed "The Beast"! (about a month ago). No it wasn't easy either. I failed on a couple occasions thinking i was cocky since I solo tamed the elite Uvuros at lvl71. I am lvl80 and even at a gs of 5100 i failed 10times! I had all the haste gear you can get and still I failed. Well folks here is the smartest thing to do as a bm hunter. I searched the ah for lvl 80 gear with stam haste but mainly sockets. I managed to find 9 pieces 8 of which have sockets and gemmed with haste($$) I also have 2 trinkets with haste shard of the crystal heart an bought a battlemaster trink with honor pts. base haste=739 fully buffed with scroll of fortitude, both potions, potion of spd, elixir of lightning spd and food haste=1751! My tame was down to 10-12sec! The process is simple but it will take several tries. This equipped and it still took me 9 times! I filled up with crocs gorillas and rhinos 5 pets each time. Stand in corner by hay so you can't get a knockback, send in pet with misdirection shot scorpid sting, beastial wrath so you can't be feared for 20sec, abandon pet, hit trink an potion of spd and tame. Macro'd is easier! Wash rinse repeat and Pray! you can get like maybe 3 trys in then you health will be low so feign death and try again. He is by far the coolest pet in game period! The skull in his icon and the "Level ? Boss" is just B.A. Can't wait to get my authenticator. Blizz should add howl talent to all ferocity pets and tweak Bm's to equal mm in dps(my2cents). I added pick of my hunter Roobyroo on Vek!

Here is how I solo-tamed The Beast.
Level 71 - There's plenty of Northrend quest gear, be it cloth, leather, mail, or caster jewelry with good haste rating + stamina. It doesn't matter what kind you get because tame beast drops your armor to zero, making it all the same. I had just over 10000 health and 5% damage reduction from
Aspect Mastery
using Aspect of the Monkey. Each attack hit me for 1100 while his other abilities(fire) were resisted and/or absorbed. Also level 71 gives you alot actual haste per haste rating. With this set up, my tame beast was at 11.62 seconds (1124 Haste Rating, 72.14% Haste).
Here is what I used:
Mok'Nathal Beast-Mask
(
Solid Chalcedony
x3,
Borean Armor Kit
)
Ritual Neckguard
Ethical Epaulettes
(
Borean Armor Kit
)
Crackling Cloak
(
Enchant Cloak - Speed
)
Shamblehide Chestguard
(
Solid Chalcedony
x3,
Borean Armor Kit
)
shirt, no tabard
Bracers of the Forest Stalker
(
Perfect Solid Chalcedony
,
Enchant Bracer - Assault
- )
Spiked Magmoth Gloves
(
Enchant Gloves - Minor Haste
)
Marshwalker Waistguard
Azurehunter Legguards
(
Borean Armor Kit
)
Treads of the Charred Canyon
(
Borean Armor Kit
)
Scouts Signet Ring
Circlet of the Forgotten Mercenary
Foresight's Anticipation
Talisman of the Tundra
Featherweight Claymore
(
Iron Counterweight
)
Compact Arrow Launcher
Elixir of Lightning Speed
Elixir of Mighty Fortitude
Very Burnt Worg
Potion of Speed
Greater Fire Protection Potion
Greater Fire Protection Potion last 2 mins, so before you engage The Beast, pop one of these and hold on for the minute cooldown. This will give you extra protection without hindering your Potion of speed. My Greater Fire Protection Potion didn't break until after the tame, from an Immolate DoT.
I've read many places that standing back by the hay is important, so I did. I pulled The Beast with Scorpid Sting and then, making sure he was within the 30 yard range of Tame Beast, hit this macro twice:
#show
/tar The
/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Deterrence
/use Foresight's Anticipation
/use Potion of Speed
/run PetAbandon()
/cast Tame Beast
Bestial Wrath gives you 10 seconds of uninterrupted channeling and Deterrence blocks attacks for 6 seconds. Your active pet will be abandoned immediately after casting Bestial Wrath. The game doesn't register that your throw-away pet has been abandoned right away, requiring the second click to start the taming.
I was able to tame The Beast on my second try. (I used a practice macro by mistake the first time, getting myself killed.)
With even more planning, a larger budget, and a haste buff from a friend, you could probably drop that channel time on tame beast even lower.
As of this post, The Beast maintains his "Level ? (Boss)" tag, even after being leveled. You can see his actual level while he is stabled.
In case anyone missed it in other posts, Rapid Fire does not affect tame beast channeling time.

As of this writing, he will still keep the Skull icon and ? Boss tag when tamed. (It's SWEET.)
I am very happy I went through THE SHEER PAIN of taming this guy. Seriously, this was probably my most frustrating and annoying tame to date. I had a holy pally with me, trying to heal indirectly via Divine Sacrifice and Hand of Sacrifice so as not to get aggro. He had Sacred Shield on me and I was backed into the hay to avoid the fear. However...
Even if the charge effect is completely absorbed (in this case by Sacred Shield) and you take no damage, the cast still gets interrupted. I have not found a really *good* way to counter this, just by sheer luck. Haste pots will only get you so far, as if he happens to charge once, then your haste pot just got wasted more or less and unless you feign and reset him, you can't use another. :) Fun huh?
I found that trying to recast Tame Beast after his charges was quite draining on my mana. Even at a 5.9K GS, he will still hurt you pretty badly (might help that Taming makes him ignore armor) so don't think you can just outgear this tame.
Using Scorpid Sting did not seem to reduce the amount of times he charged either, although that could just be bad RNG on my part. He did occasionally chain several charges together, which was extra bothersome.
So basically, good timing, good luck and many feigns. Don't give up, you'll get him eventually. :D

I never went below 10k hp despite the constant fear spams and charges, except for once when his knockback threw me to the ceiling.
Strongly suggest bringing a healer for anyone trying to do this <75.

Just helped my friend tame The Beast tonight. I was on my prot paladin with a minuscule amount of mana (about 5500) and she had about 18000 HP with very little haste (about 250) I hid in The Beast's cave and she stood in the hay once he was done juggling her. I put Sacred Shield on her, used Concentration Aura, and stepped out after his fireballs to toss a heal or two. We managed to tame him after 4 tries and we tamed him IMMEDIATELY after using the positioning I described. Other things she used: Potion of Speed and Rapid Fire. Good luck out there, I know when I get my hunter to 80, I'll tame him this way

Just solo tamed as an 80 hunter. Using the tips from above (the macro, the throw-away pet), I also loaded up on haste gear -- fortunately I still had my Valorous tier pieces in the bank, and I used 3 of those for the haste. With this, plus the Imperial Manta, plus the speed pot, I waited till after the fireball cast then hit the macro twice.
Hopefully, The Beats still retains that Boss Lvl title after patch 4....

This guy is sooooooo easy to tame now as of patch 4.0.1. Tame beast only takes ten seconds now. You probably don't even need to be 80 to solo tame it now. Oh yea it still keeps the boss skull lvl :)

I solo tamed him tonight (after patch release) and can confirm he does still have his boss tag. Now that tame beast is 10 seconds base cast, taming the Beast couldn't be easier :) Just stand behind the hay as everyone has said and you win!
I was amused by my chat log upon taming:
"Unknown has reached !"

Just tamed him on Lazuliz on Gnomeregan, lvl 80 hunter in blues/low purples mix. Wife was along on her healer, but it was a solo heal because he kept pulling off of me to fireball her and I died the first attempt.
Second attempt, I went behind the infamous haystack with my back to the wall and went at it. He interrupted my tame twice, but I decided rather than feign, I'd just stick it out and got him with about 4k health left.
The one thing that I can see making it harder than before is the lack of Aspect of the Monkey or Dragonhawk so no additional avoidance. As well, no more scorpid sting. You can't even send a pet in to debuff The Beast and then dismiss it (not that the debuff would last long enough, but still).
Basically, it's "up against the wall" and hope he loves you.
What I'm a little unclear on is the level. Is the pet always 3 levels above the hunter? Does that mean we never have to level this pet? If so, he becomes a FANTASTIC ferocity pet as he also comes with ancient hysteria (slightly reduced heroism/bloodlust/time warp).
Anyway, with 20 stable slots, I'd recommend every hunter try and nab him!

No, you still have to level him. He is still a pet who is lvl 77 (if you tame him at 80). If you put him in the stables, he reads his proper level (i.e. 77). The only thing different is that the game actually identifies your core hound as "The Beast" in name alone, which is why his tag says "Boss" "?" and "Level -1" when you have him out.

Interesting thing about this guy when ya tame him. Once he hits "lvl 80" he has 21 talent points vs 20.

I just solo-tamed him yesterday.
I guess I got lucky - I had no problems getting him. At level 80 in mainly Badge/Justice Point gear I soloed through UBRS, got to The Beast and started taming him as soon he walked out of his hole in the corner.
By time he got to me I was already 50% done the taming. He hit me pretty hard, but never broke my taming. I dropped to about 70% health during the process. That was it.
No healer with me, no buffs prior to entering UBRS - I just walked in, killed everything I saw up to The Beast and tamed him.
He does a fear and a knockback normally - but for some reason he never used them against me (or I resisted it somehow) during the taming process.
Much cooler than the Core Hounds in MC IMO - especially with the Boss symbol for his level icon.
You can only see his experience bar - not his true level. But once you tame him, he can be levelled up 3 levels to your current level.
I would definately tame this guy. The Green Core Hounds and the White one are nice - but they don't come with a Skull Icon!

I tried to tame him months ago with no luck. I used haste potions and rapid fire. I spent about an hour trying to do it when I finally gave up. I just tamed him last night! It only took me a couple of tries because tame beast is now 10 seconds and not 20seconds to cast. I think everyone should be able to do it now.

Something I thought I'd point out: It's the Scorpid Sting that makes things easier, not having Aspect of the Monkey up. You can't dodge while casting a spell.

Just bagged this guy last night. Having a Paladin use Hand of Protection on you helps a LOT. It's five seconds of time where Beast can waste his knockback or fear spell and also do no damage. With HoP and heirlooms a 70 hunter can tame this guy.

Tamed this guy on my hunter today solo. Not very geared with very little haste gear.
Popped the ilvl 245 haste trinket, rapid fire, and a potion of speed. Managed to get a 7 second cast. Got him my first attempt.

Tamed this guy two days ago on my level 76 hunter. Wasn't an easy tame but after a few tries, lots of heals and buffs from guildies I got him. Wow! Just going through Stormwind I get questions about the ? boss status and "is that a glitch?" Proud to say it's not. Doesn't end the hunt for Loque'nahak but it did give me something else to think about for a little while....

I'm not sure why people are saying it's hard to tame. I was able to tame on my first attempt while standing on the haystack and using a pot of speed. Sure alittle luck is needed. :P

Amazing looking pet. The "?"/"<skull>" draws remarks all the time too - its worth the hassle of taming it for this reason alone!
However, in practice, probably like all Core Hounds, you are not likely to want to use it in non-pvp situations for possibly multiple reasons:
1) Its ranged Exotic ability, if kept on autocast, means that unless enemies are being always tanked by someone else, melee mobs (by far the largest type in the game) will come to you rather than your pet going to them. This can produce several problems not least because as a hunter you will always feel exponentially uncomfortable the closer a target gets to you.
2) It's somewhat noisy (combat + footfall noise). Even though you do get used to it, others may not be. Having it throughout a raid would probably annoy a few people, even if they do not speak up/complain to you.
3) For reasons unknown Core Hounds, presumably due to their Exotic ability (untested) have *huge*/much higher threat than other pets, even compared to other Ferocity pets. While this is great in a solo setting (i.e. this is very useful in solo questing), with the big nerf to tank aoe threat in dungeons since patch 4.0, this can sometimes mean the healer may end up healing your pet more often than they heal the actual tank! And the tank may be spending much of his time trying to claw back threat instead of worrying about new threats or the many other things tanks have to worry about. This can actually put the healer or others at risk because of the distraction to the tank.
4) It leaves a fire trail behind it on movement from its back. I think it looks great, but again could be distracting/annoying for group situations.
Basically, it makes a great town, situational pvp and reasonable solo pet (as long as your mindful of the reduced range), but noticeably less so for groups without taking into account its buff. Unfortunately, only Core Hounds provide the Ancient Hysteria/Bloodlust/Heroism super buff - so, if your (raid) group in Cata is missing a shaman or mage but have a hunter, then you WILL be taking a Core Hound no matter how annoying they may sometimes seem to some. In non-raid dungeons, use whatever Ferocity pet you want. Though I suggest keeping in mind the above points.

as of 4.0.3 he won't keep the ? level tag. It will show level 77 when you tame him if you are level 80 (or whatever 3 levels below yours is). Not too exciting anymore :\ easy in terms of not needing to be in a raid group to get to him (as opposed to the core hounds in molten core), but not as fast as just jumping into MC for the same color model.

Beauty
, one of the bosses of Blackrock Caverns (Beauty and The Beast, get it? Cute.) They also have four little core hound pups:
Lucky

Buster
, and
Runty
(a reference to 101 Dalmatians). I felt so incredibly guilty killing them!

Confirming that post-Cataclysm the special ? Boss Elite glitch hasn't returned, and displays his level as up to three levels lower than yours when you tamed him (patch 4.1 makes tamed beasts the same level as yourself...). He is still a huge pet, and not difficult at all anymore at the level 80 mark, and could probably be tamed at 75 with a decently geared -OR- nicely skilled BM Hunter with 15k hps++ (check out the vids on YouTube with a Hunter who only had 12.5k hps going in).
NOTE: It is a VERY GOOD idea to either be geared towards lots of Haste or take foods/elixirs to add a bunch of Haste if you are <80 and attempting to tame him before dying. He still does a wicked Knockback that will disrupt your Tame if it doesn't finish quickly enough, and can seriously damage you if you don't put your back up against a wall (I'd suggest near the burning blockade at the entry to his den so if he hits you too hard you can run through the blockade and drop agro). Just be sure you aren't exactly at the entry if he fears you and the mobs sitting there hadn't been cleared in the previous room.

Hunters! Tip! If you're trying to solo this to go get him. If you're 69 like I was. I took a 60 warrior friend with me and (it helped none) he punts you in the air. This can get frustrating because he does it with perfect timing just before you finishing taming him.
My tip.. walk up let him punt you the first time and walk to the back wall. Put your back against the wall wait for his next punt. Start spam clicking the tame button as you get up so you do it as quick as possible. Depending on your health, right before he punts you again you should be able to tame him at the exact second. I died right after he finished being tamed. It was close.
I named him Nacho Salsa. Nacho for one head Salsa for the other. he looks hot and salsy. :3
Tame difficutly : pretty tough

Well for starters, you should be a bit nicer.
But its a fairly linear dungeon.
Go to Blackrock Mountian, go inside and look for a summoning stone...go into the hall on the right. Keep going right and up till you find an entrance. Once inside, you ahve to ways right and left...your going left...follow the dungeon and the easy 60 bosses. When you reach a rather large room. There he is...tame away.

I think these posts on strategy are just wierd. I am a lvl 72 hunter and i solo'd this guy. Never died once. I just cast tame beast, he knocked me back once, then i casted again. Simple as that. Idk if it helps, but i had brutal gear on but i never coordinated haste ratings or hp boosts. Maybe i got lucky, but his shots didnt even bring me down half health, with my whopping 11k (yes 11,000, not like 50k). Maybe a recent patch weakened him or something. Either way, very easy to solo tame. I'm off to get Uvuros!

Since a few people have asked, or posted their frustrations in reaching The Beast here is some hopefully simple instructions on how to get to "The Beast".
First of all upon entering Blackrock Spire, the Eastern half is dedicated to "Lower Blackrock Spire", while the Western half, is dedicated to "Upper Blackrock Spire". "The Beast" is located in the "Upper Blackrock Spire".
From the entrance you will need to go into the main room, and take your the doorway up the ramp to the left. You will be in an atrium with several alcoves full of monsters that must all die in order to 'trigger' the door at the back of the area to open. After going through that door, around a corner and up a ramp you'll see several orcs binding a fire elemental, and a pillar that can be activated. Activate it, kill the orcs & then the Fire Elemental boss. From there you will proceed into another room where you can kill multiple adds, before jumping into the arena pit for the Arena event. The rooms that lead up to the Beast
After killing the multiple waves of Whelps & engaging & killing Warchief Rend Blackhand & Gyrr (spelling?) the door to the arena pit will open again, allowing access to the adjacent rooms & upper areas leading to General Drakkisith (spelling?). There will be several orc & dragonkin npc trash mobs on the way there, including a few Orc Rogue npcs, in a room with what appears to be a 'grey stone' floor. This room has 3 exits, the one you initially enter it from, one to your immediate right, and one to your far left, that is barricaded off with bloodied wooden pikes and corpses leading into a VERY dark room. Jump over the barricade, and "The Beast" is located at the very back alcove of that dark room.
For hunters attempting to tame him it's easiest to do so with your back to a wall as he has a knockback ability that can easily throw you 30 - 40 yards including fall damage. He also has an AoE fear, and even at level 85 hits for about 6 - 7k a hit since you have no armor value while taming. I would recommend haste potions, a haste elixir, & popping both rapid fire & deterrence prior to your tame attempt. If you should fail due to being feared or punted before the tame completes, just feign death, wait for ALL of your potion cooldowns & rapid fire cooldowns to be up, and attempt it again. Slowing & snaring traps will not work on The Beast, and snake traps will actually break your taming as they will taunt him, stealing your aggro.
For characters attempting to kill him at level, he can easily be 5 manned by a level 55 - 60 group, all mobs in the room adjacent to him should definitely be killed, including all stealthed rogue npcs to avoid a fear bomb that could potentially cause a wipe. I would recommend the tank, pulling him to one of the walls or corners of the room and tanking him with the tanks back to the wall to avoid the punt.
Priest Healers would be wise to fear ward themselves prior to the fight & refresh it on themselves during the fight if need be. Shaman healers would be wise to save Tremor totem until he fears & drop it immediately. Druids would be wise to toss out any additional heal over time spells, even at the risk of overhealing during the fight as they really have no way of mitigating the fear short of using a pvp trinket.
Paladin healers & tanks in general would be wise to save their CC immunity cooldowns, enrage effects or otherwise until the fear goes off, so as not to lose aggro.

I've seen some hunters want a core hound like this so if your one of those this is how to get one (Should be at least 75 as far as I know to solo and live) go to the upper Blackrock spire (should be to left, then you're suppose to kill all mobs in mini chambers) then the door opens then just go in and you should quickly see the first boss, "The beast" is the third boss.

Noticed nobody ever updated where else a Hunter can tame this same skin. Look no further than
焦碳焰犬斯莫多斯
found in
海加尔山
zone! 100% same exact skin as my originally tamed
比斯巨兽
pet, plus it keeps its full name once tamed!
I'm now updating where the tameable adult versions of the skins for
如花
's four pups might come from.
比斯之子
found in the post-Cata
黑石塔上层
(UBRS) zone! Same exact adult version skin of
小强
,
来福
,
旺财
+ the now removed
斑点
. Keep the Lore alive!
Story has it that corehounds
比斯巨兽
and
如花
had four (4) living pups. 2 are still found in the Heroic version of
黑石岩窟
. After the removal/passing of pre-Cata
黑石塔上层
/
比斯巨兽
, a new adult corehound was found in the new
黑石塔上层
named
比斯之子
. Since both
旺财
and the now removed
斑点
were accounted for in Heroic, that left 2 pups missing from the game after players left this dungeon. One pup could've become the companion battle pet, and the other....became
比斯之子
. Since
如花
goes ballistic during the dungeon run if someone kills her little pup
小强
, there is a very great chance that
小强
became
比斯之子
(she didn't seem to mind overly much if players killed the other pups).
One can always rename the tameable
比斯之子
to
小强
or
来福
and use
熔火恶犬宝宝
battle pet as the other puppy. Collect 'em all! Since
比斯之子
DOES NOT keep its name after taming (for now), one could also keep it as TheBeastjr or just Beastjr, but the non-Hunter or post-Cata crowd won't get it. ;^P
NOTE:
如花
's skin is similar to
比斯之子
's but with a tad bit less coloration in her manacles and chains. Unfortunately she isn't tameable.
