Introduced in Warcraft 3 for the first time, it is one of the most popular races in WoW, especially among hunters. Back in vanilla, there was a notion that all Night Elf Hunter were 'noobs'. Females of this race are commonly seen dancing naked on mailboxes.
Most night elfs I see aren't very smart :P
A brief lore-point-of-view description of the Night Elven race, also refered to as Kal'dorei ("Children of the Stars" in Darnassian):
Women that kick ass.
Male Nelfs are able to (in the char creation screen) give them a face that includes a blindfold like illidan (presumibly this is for RP-ing "Demon Hunters")
Night Elf dances:
Male dance: Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
Female dance: Alizée - J'en ai marre
if you were a Female Night Elf and were walking and jumped sometimes they do a front flip
i got to say they have the best mount model in the game its almost enough to make me roll a night elf so i could use the mount
My favorite race ...they are...yep...awesome look, awesome mounts, awesome racials, awesome big city...um tree and awesome dance moves(well....at least females)..:|
we got also
1) decreases the chance you are seen while in stealth / Shadowmeld (+1 your lvl)
2) increases movespeed while stealthed by 5%
edit: wondering whether hunters get it since they got
at 85 // yes they have it, however movespeed increase does not work for them (4.3.4 tested)
"increases movespeed while stealthed by 5%" does not work for druids. kinda weird >.<
finally fixed in MoP, works for druids' prowl too
If you are interested in min/max'ing the N.E racials are only any good for tanking, where Quickness provides by far the strongest of the alliance racials for this purpose. For any DPS role where you have a choice you are better off with another race.
So why do they get to be mages now? I thought that arcane magic was a huge nono for them?
by creating new chars, only rogues, druids and hunters get this racial.
Druids and Mages command elemental forces. Shamans ask for natures help. At least that is how the differences between the two Nature classes have been explained.
Shamans don't ask for natures help. They respect it, yes, so too do druids. Shamans bind elements to do their bidding though, this is no mystery and not necessarily a bad thing. Elementals in the warcraft universe are extremely random in nature and unpredictable. Binding them aligns them to the binders will. Shamans and mages are the ones that command elemental forces (as you can clearly see with elementals being summoned to their will but bound, either magically or through a totem), druids seek to become an elemental force which is why they are able to shapeshift and so on. I'd love to night elf shamans; if tauren can have them I don't see why nelves don't. Really it was all a matter or balance with the classes; they'd have to give horde a third paladin race if they were gona give alliance a third shaman race.
Fun fact if you zoom in on an male night elf when they are speaking you can see a pair of vampire fangs:)
Old Night Elf intro (Pre-Cataclysm):
For 10,000 years, the immortal night elves cultivated a druidic society within the shadowed recesses of Ashen Vale forest. Yet recently, the catastrophic invasion of the Burning Legion shattered the tranquility of their ancient civilization. Led by the Arch Druid Malfurion Stormrage and the Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind, the mighty night elves rose to challenge the demonic onslaught. Though victorious, the night elves were forced to sacrifice their cherished immortality and watch their beloved forests burn. Seeking to gain their immortality, a number of wayward druids conspired to plant a special tree that would link their spirits to the eternal world. Despite Malfurion's warnings that nature would never bless such a selfish act, the druids planted the great tree Teldrassil of the stormy coasts of northern Kalimdor. Within the twilight bowels of the colossal tree, the wondrous city of Darnassus took root. However, the great tree was not concentrated with nature's blessing and soon fell pray to the corruption of the Burning Legion. Now, the wildlife and even the limbs of the great tree itself are tainted by a growing darkness. As one of the few night elves still left in the world, it is your sworn duty to defend Darnassus and the wild children of nature against the legion's encroaching corruption.
New Night Elf intro:
After years of imprisonment within the Emerald Nightmare, Arch Druid Malfurion Stormrage has finally returned to the mortal world. Reunited with his love, Tyrande Whisperwind, Malfurion endeavors now to heal the corrupted world tree Teldrassil and rejuvenate the spirit of the night elf people. Yet as the great Cataclysm shakes the bowels of their colossal tree, the night elves brace themselves against the coming storm. As war and destruction close in from all sides, it falls to night elves like you to stand strong and protect the enduring legacy of your people.
Only the best race.
Its funny, cause their the only race that does deal with some world changing issue.
Aside from Humans, Orcs, Blood elves, Undead/Forsaken, Dwarves etc, you're right. They're the only ones. :p
Call me a perv for noticing, but male night elves have a... erm... "package".. I just noticed this randomly one day.
Cross the guild perk the quick and the dead with the night elf wisp form and wow! Holy speedy spirits!
If im a night elf, which i am. what would the best class be? Warrior? Hunter? Druid?

Night Elves (or "Kaldorei" meaning "Children of the Stars" in their native tongue) are one of the oldest humanoid races native to Azeroth. Ten thousand years ago, a schism occurred between the ruling Highborne mages and the rest of the population. The Highborne, led by the malevolent Lord Xavius, tampered with the energies of the arcane, attracting the attention of the Dark Titan, Sargeras, who sent his demonic armies to Kalimdor to try and wipe out all life on Azeroth. Thanks to the help of the Dragon Aspects which were chosen by the Titans to defend and protect the world from any threat, the Night Elf forces succeeded in preventing the Highborne from allowing the Burning Legion to permanently enter Azeroth, though the planet's continent was shattered in the process. The schism not only destroyed the magical Well of Eternity from which the elves drew their power, but also most of the rest of the continent, resulting in a vast ocean separating the continents of Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and Northrend, and the Maelstrom in the center of the planet.
The remaining Night Elves in Kalimdor guarded a massive World Tree, Nordrassil, which was planted over a second Well of Eternity created by the exiled Night Elf traitor Illidan Stormrage. The tree gave the Night Elves immortality, thanks to the blessings of the Dragon Aspects. For the next ten thousand years, the survivors lived peacefully, until the second invasion of the Burning Legion. The races of Azeroth, both Horde and Alliance, together fought the Legion at the peak of Mount Hyjal, until the Elves managed to unleash the primal fury of Nordrassil, killing the demon lord Archimonde and defeating the Burning Legion. Since then, the Night Elves have lost their immortality, and have planted a new World Tree called Teldrassil to try and recover it.
Night Elves are imposing in stature, males being on average 7 feet tall. Male Night Elves are very muscular, with broad chests and shoulders, indicative of the strength that lies within both their minds and bodies. Female Night Elves are lithe and curvaceous, yet still muscular and strong. The race's prominent eyebrows, long pointed ears and natural aspects imply a feral grace. Skin tones vary from purples or pinks to blues or a pale whitish-blue, their hair ranges in colour from bright white to woodland green to an electric purple, and their eyes are either silver or amber. Amber eyes were considered a sign of great destiny, however, in World of Warcraft, all males have amber eyes, while all females have silver.
Night Elves were introduced for Warcraft III as one of the playable races and Night Elves are a playable race in World of Warcraft. Within the main timeframe of the series, the Night Elves are ruled by the High Priestess of Elune, Tyrande Whisperwind, as they have been for roughly 10,000 years. Within the timeframe of World of Warcraft, Malfurion Stormrage, an Archdruid, has been trapped in the Emerald Dream, and in his absence, Fandral Staghelm and Remulos, son of Cenarius, look over the Kaldorei along with the High Priestess.
According to Wikipedia :
Races and factions of Warcraft
Great race for a PvE rogue - if you get unwanted attention, you can simply shadowmeld. Afterwards, you switch to stealth and get somewhere safe. Without moving during the shadowmeld, of course.
Never tried it in PvP, but I doubt it would be successful.
We want Illidan back!
Night Elf dances:

It's disturbing the way the females jump up and down with boundless glee just after killing an ooze.
Fact: caused all the wars in the world

Time is Money
Probably the first race you played when you first picked up WoW.
This race's racial seems weak compared to the rest of all the other racials. But I believe it is still one of the most popular races.
Night elfs are awesome. I LOVED their starting zone when WoW first came out, but now it isn't as awesome. =/
Not until after 6½ years after I started with the game, I now realized that the Night Elf Female voice actor is strangely similar to Liara in Mass Effect. Especially at the error speaches.
Test it out and keep Liara's voice in mind when and you will see it yourself.
Anyone ever notice how the Night Elves, when faced with important, world-changing decisions, INEVITABLY make the wrong ones? If it weren't for Night Elves and their screwups, I'd be inclined to think Azeroth in general would be a much nicer place.
Mistake 1: Destroying the Scepter of the Shifting Sands
Bronze Dragonflight: "Now that we've finally sealed away the nemesis of all Azeroth, here's a scepter should you need to break the seal and fight them again."
Bronze Dragonflight: "You dumb *&^%er."
Mistake 2: Destroying the Well of Eternity
Queen Azshara: "Blahaharrrgh, I'm addicted to magic!"
Night Elves: "Well I guess that's cool."
Queen Azshara: "Blahahaharrrgh, I'm summoning demons!"
Night Elves: "Ok, that's not so cool."
Malfurion: "I've got an idea! Let's blow up the world!"
Tyrande: "Come on, that's your solution to everything."
Malfurion: "No it's not! By the way, hold this."
Tyrande: "Hey, this looks like a-"
Tyrande: "...dammit, Malfurion."
Mistake 3: Recreating the Well of Eternity, Then Leaving It There and Falling Asleep
Illidan: "Hey guys, now that we just got done blowing THAT up, I just made a new one!"
Night Elves: "You stupid *&^%#er."
Malfurion: "Illidan, you're under arrest for playing the devil rock music."
Illidan: "How wude!"
Malfurion: "Anyway, let's just plant a tree over top of this sucker and call it a day."
Tyrande: "Uh, what do you want us women to do, Mal honey?"
Malfurion: "You all stay awake and keep the stove warm in case we're hungry when we wake up. Oh, and don't go running off having fun
with your friends or anything, I want you in the kitchen where you belong."
Mistake 4: Staying Asleep
Orcs: "FOR THE HORDE! And also the Burning Legion!"
Night Elves: "zzzzzzzzz"
Undead: "For the lich king! Also, again, the Burning Legion!"
Night Elves: "zzzzzzSNRKzzzzz"
Mistake 5: Picking a Fight with the Orcs
Night Elves: "WTF? Orcs cutting down our trees? Gettem!"
Cenarius: "I'LL take the case!"
Night Elves: "WTF!"
Grom Hellscream: kek
Mistake 6: Releasing Illidan
Tyrande: "We need help, gotta wake the druids up. Oh hey, Illidan! I'm sure 10,000 years of confinement has only rehabilitated him."
Tyrande: "...although I could be wrong."
Illidan: "OOGHRARGHghhh!" *runs off*
Mistake 7: Blowing up the World, AGAIN
Medivh: "Quit fighting you nubs! Archimonde is coming!"
Night Elves: "Oh crap you're right. Too late now!"
Malfurion: "Hey, I've got an idea!"
Mistake 8: Stopping Illidan from killing the Lich King
Malfurion: "OMG! Illidan's doing something crazy to Northrend! Gotta stop him!"
Maiev: "I'm kookoo for catching Illidan!" *trips Tyrande*
Tyrande: "Aiiee!" *falls into river*
Malfurion and Illidan: "I'LL take the case!"
Illidan: "So you see, I was trying to DESTROY THE MOST POWERFUL EVIL BEING IN AZEROTH."
Malfurion: "Oh, uh..... my bad."
Mistake 9: Building a new World Tree
Fandral: "Man, I miss immortality. Let's make a new world tree!"
Malfurion: "I don't think that's a good-"
Fandral: "STFU nub."
Fandral: "See? This place is great."
Malfurion: "I dunno, it smells kinda bad... and I think I just stepped in some ooze."
Fandral: "Yeah? Well if you don't like it, why don't you go get lost in the Emerald Dream for a few years?"
Malfurion: "You know what? I think I will!" *gets lost in the Emerald Dream*
Night Elves: *facepalm*
Rest of Alliance: "Remind me why we put up with these guys?"
Bronze Dragonflight: "Because you're all a bunch of dumb *&^%ers."
Gotta give credit where its do -
''Elune be with you''...
They may have regained their immortality (As in, living for a REAL long time) but it isn't certain.
Kal'Dorei, or Night Elves, are a race of ancient, long lived forest dwellers (previously immortal). They were originally primitive nomads, that were drawn to the center of the super continent Kalimdor where the Well of Eternity stood. There they built their civilization, a city known as Zin-Azshari, named after their beloved Queen Azshara. As they stayed near the Well of Eternity, it's magics began to change them, making them smarter, more agile, and most importantly, immortal. They befriended a number of powerful beings, inculding the demigod Cenarius, who taught them the ways of druidism. After a while, the Highborne, the favored servents of Queen Azshara, and the queen herself, began to tap the energies of the Well of Eternity. They had stumbled upon a primitive form of arcane magic, and became hellbent of mastering it. The waves of energy being emitted from the Well drew the attention of Sargeras, the dark titan, leader of the burning legion, who contacted Azshara, promising her power if he allowed him into their world. He wanted the power of the Well of Eternity for himself. She agreed and together with her Highborne, opened a portal, allowing the burning legion to come to Azeroth, thus beginning the War of the Ancients. The was culminated when Malfurion Stormrage, a young druid and the star pupil of Cenarius, decided to destroy the Well of Eternity, closing the portal before it became large enough for Sargeras himself to cross through. Unfortunately, his actions had unintended consequences. The resulting explosion was so large, that it caused the continent of Kalimdor to split into the continents and islands that make up the geography of Azeroth today, and created the Malestrom, a massive, unending storm, at the location of the explosion. This event was known as the Sundering. Also, without their source of power, the night elves were no longer immortal. They planted a new World Tree, Teldrasil, and built a city atop it, Darnassus, and there they remain to this day. When they burning Legion returned along with their brain washed orcish army, the Night Elves joined forces with the Alliance of Lorderon in stopping the coming destruction. Today they are formally a member of the Alliance, their leader is Tyrande Whisperwind, a Priestess of the Moon.
Night Elves are a great race.. I hear that Night Elves are Blood Elves' ancestors. Annoyingly, Nelves have a pretty bad starting area.
Where is the racial Elusiveness and its mention of increasing run speed while stealthed?
NIght Elf racial changes coming in Warlords of Draenor!
now also increases movement speed by 2% in addition to increasing Dodge chance by 2%.
Touch of Elune
is a new passive ability which increases Haste by 1% at night, and Critical Strike Chance by 1% during the day.
After switching from Horde to Alliance and switching servers I have a character of each Alliance race in the works, but I chose to begin with a Night Elf Subtlety Rogue. Partly due to the racial abilities and partly due to looks. Other than the Worgen my favorite race is Night Elf. I am partial to the savagery of the Worgen, but the Night Elves' love of nature is appealing.
My new Rogue is only level 10 right now, but I am already hooked on the appearance. In addition the occasional flip while jumping is a nice touch.
This one character has already made me glad that I switched from Horde to Alliance. I know you can play both sides but I choose to be strictly one side or the other.
Night Elf Female ♀
If I wasn't purple, you'd see I was blushing.
Sure, I've got exotic piercings.
I'm the type of girl my mother warned me about.
There's nothing like sleeping in the forest under the moonlight.
You know I have to keep moving at night. Or I'll disappear!
Actually I'm more of a... morning elf.
You know wisps are actually pretty useful for personal hygiene.
I think guys just use the Emerald Dream as an excuse to avoid calling me back.
Oh I'm dancing again! I hope all your friends are enjoying the show.
Night Elf Male ♂
You're an Emerald Dream come true.
I hope you're not afraid of snakes.
Baby, I'm mortal now. Time's a wastin'.
I'm a force of nature.
Wanna bring out the animal in me?
Last night I went to an awesome stag party.
You know those ancient protectors in Darnassus? They're not that old.
Man, I was halfway through the Emerald Dream when I had to pee.
Is that thing sharp? Could that thing cut me? I'm... not immortal now you know.
I don't know about you, but I can't understand a thing those wisps say. I usually just nod.
Who wants to live forever?
What? I didn't hear that.
I don't mind the gnomes, but I'm always worried about tripping over one.
Even though I love all of my NE characters (probably more than most of the people I meet IRL) I am extremely furious that I can't go through most of the doors, passages, doorways and such with any NE while using elixir of giant growth and similar effects.
I love my night elf hunter first is still the best character I've made in WoW everyone should try one at least once
For any class that doesn't have a way to break combat,
makes Night Elves one of the strongest races for that class.
Classes without ways to break combat that can be a Night Elf: Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid*, Monk, Priest, Warrior.
The ability to break out of combat and go into stealth is far more valuable than the extra 0.01% damage/healing/avoidance provided by other racial abilities. If your raid is wiping, you can Shadowmeld, wait for the mobs/boss to reset, then resurrect everyone, saving a long run back from the raid entrance.
If you're doing dungeons with an organized group and every player can break combat, you can run right past hard/annoying trash mob packs, then break combat on the other side, wait for the mobs to deaggro and reset, and then keep going without having to spend time fighting them (a popular tactic in Mythic+ dungeons).
If you're into PvP, you can use this to avoid a big nuke being cast at you, just Shadowmeld before the cast finishes and the enemy loses its target lock on you.
Easily one of the most useful and unique racial abilities in the game.
(* Feral Druids have a talent,
, that gives them the ability to Stealth in combat once every 3m, but it's limited to Feral spec and may restrict your talent build if you want a different talent.)
