April Fools' 2011 - We Won't Forget You, Crabby
Yet another April Fools' Day has come and gone softly into the night, leaving in its wake a bunch of jokes and rumors. This year seemed tame to the previous one, where we heard about everything from top guilds merging to aquariums being added, but sometimes tame is good--especially where being pranked is concerned. All in all, there were still some great jokes around the WoW community to be found and fun to be had.
Some of our favorites were:

A guild some of you may have heard of, Paragon,

Wowhead Exclusive: Level 80 (85?) Elite Tauren Chieftain NEW SONG, "Warriors of Azeroth"
So since there were a ton of other media outlets present at the Cataclysm Launch Event, I was convinced that someone else would have a fancy professional video of this up long before I had the opportunity to do it myself, but It's 5:30 and I still don't see any other videos. So, here it is!
The Artist Formerly Known As Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain has written a new song!
This one is dedicated to all the

Warriors of Azeroth!
This is a

Remember, the iPhone takes 720p video, so be sure to watch it in High Quality!
New Dwarf Female Hairstyles, Still No New Model
Something unexpected out of the latest Cataclysm Beta build - they've updated some of the existing
hairstyles! So far, they've changed three of the existing hairstyles and added one new one. I haven't checked all of other races to see if they've gotten anything new, just confirmed that the troll female hairstyles are all still bad.
Blizzard, Blizzard, Blizzard — you can add all of the new hairstyles you want but it won't change the fact that there are simply some player character races out there which are dramatically in need of some updates. Maybe after the Cataclysm, Deathwing could ravage over some NPC models as well? It worked for Desolace, right?
The hairstyles changed are, in order,

Blizzard Homage to Red Shirt Guy
We waited a little while to post this to make sure it wasn't private server shenanigans, but it looks like it's been confirmed—Blizzard has done an homage to the man now known only as
Red Shirt Guy
, not only by restoring
to his rightful position as Wildhammer Clan Representative, but he is now joined by an assistant: the
Wildhammer Fact Checker!
The above screenshot is leaked from an internal beta build, but
Alex Afrasiabi has confirmed
that it's real—red shirt and all. As soon as he appears on live servers, we'll have him on our db for comments and screenshots. :)
Congratulations, Red Shirt Guy. I hope Blizzard hires you to check their facts.

BFF Report Rummages Through Steam's Indie Bin
After months of heated debate and seventeen riveting
Hungry Hungry Hippos
has finally granted access for yours truly to post BFF Report episodes here on the lovely Wowhead Blog. And, while it may have cost me twenty big-toe massage sessions and my dignity, I'm proud to have finally made it to this stage in my life. Now to the meat and healthy carbohydrates portion of this week's post...
Last week I took it upon myself to dig through the dollar(ish) bin in the XBOX Live market and left all you PC gamers mildly unsatisfied. As a result, I've turned my focus to Steam in hopes to find something indie, cheap and worthy of my precious in-between-MMOs time... which I apparently have had ample amounts of these past few weeks!
btw shoutouts to the homiez.. StephX2, Sinjn, Nanu, Sopheak, Facundo the Small, Mel, JB, br0, (Atax) and biym Math...#1
Next Time, on WCI: Wowhead Code Investigators
Deep within The Datamines, the WCI team will be up against one of their most difficult challenges yet:
The Case of the Client and the AVG LinkScanner
> TheOnyx, Skosiris
> they were able to tell the exact problem
> using the same constants/functions the client actually uses
> the cool part is they spent their time doing that
> and all we have to do is fix
> mystadio: i'll kick to you and thank them
> i like how they say we need to fix our code
> lol wow
> Developers of Wowhead client, please check and fix your source code.

The Lich King is Still Alive...
caught this a little while ago, but I couldn't help it. I'm sure there's many other YouTube connoisseurs out there who have come to love and appreciate the hilarious Warcraft

What better machinima could exist than one combining two of the most evil and sinister villains in recent gaming history, our beloved (yeah, right)

Did Somebody Say My Name?

A little while ago, the very talented Keydar from
Dark Legacy Comics
created a fine piece of art.
Since we did not have a blog to post about it at the time, we felt like we would share it again for everyone to enjoy!
Create YOUR Own Wowhead Title!
That's right, folks, you saw it correct! You now get a chance to design your own title to be added to our pool of randomly generated witticisms you get to see every time you load the homepage!
You have asked for it, and we are giving it to you. There have been several threads on the forums, all of which asked us (nicely, of course) to add new sayings to our pool. We have read them all, but until recently time was just never enough to bother with something so small.
Well, we are as busy as ever, but this request of yours we can fulfill!
This is not a contest
, and there are no rewards beyond bragging rights. But think about how cool your friends will think you are when you go to them and say
"See that thing up there just after where it says "Wowhead: ..."? That's right, I gave them that idea!"
You would become a superstar in matter of seconds!
5 Years of WoW
Just as the new Onyxia encounter has reminded us, WoW has now been with us for five years. :)
I was preparing the posts and patch information for 3.2.2, and I couldn't help but wax melancholy (as I am wont to do) about my time in WoW. Five years makes for a lot of memories. It's not unusual to get
after a five year relationship—and yet here we are spending all of that time with a video game.
I even took some time to go back and look through how the World of Warcraft Official Site looked back in the day—does
look familiar to anyone? Dwarf mages, old fashioned troll and human models.../sigh. Those were the days.
So in honor of WoW's 5th anniversary, I've been asking the staff about their oldest and fondest memories of WoW. I've included a number of them here, after the break. Come and see!
I know this has nothing to do with anything. But I just wanted to point this out, because I think this is my new favorite comment on the entire site.
The comment is from the
, the epic land mount that drops from
Attumen the Huntsman

, it details the precise reasons why Midnight is superior to all other mounts.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Addiction King!
Once upon a time, there was a Wowhead user who had a hard time managing his schoolwork because of World of Warcraft. But, as he had been playing WoW for over three years, he was reluctant to cancel his subscription. After a week of contemplation, he finally found enough strength to cancel. He even e-mailed Malgayne to have his Wowhead account banned too, hoping it would help his attempt to quit WoW.
The account’s next billing payment had been due in a week, so he figured that it would be a good time to cancel the recurring subscription. After that week had passed it was official: his WoW account was no longer active and his Wowhead account was banned until his return. Unfortunately, this did not stop him from continuing to read both the official forums and Wowhead’s forums. The urge to resubscribe was growing bigger by the day, but this user was determined to quit anything WoW-affiliated altogether until he could get his life back under control.
Fast forward to sixteen days after his WoW account became frozen. He was home sick and had nothing to do, and he was starting to feel better that day. With just WoW on his min
New Icons in PTR Build 10083
Build 10083 of the PTR was released today. In it were some small updates to spells, but nothing extravagant. I was about to end my day in The Datamines when I came across a rare boss: Iconus! As you know, you almost never see Iconus unless a new version of WoW is on the horizon, so when I saw him I was eager to take advantage of the opportunity. The skull beside his portrait worried me, but I had leveled many times since our last encounter and I figured I could take him down by myself.
I was wrong.
I gathered as many guild members as I could and we went back into The Datamines. 42 wipes, 250g in repairs, and plenty of cursing later, we downed Iconus. Nearly salivating, I looted his corpse... and found
new icon. :(
Furthermore, it was not an upgrade for any of us. However, it is Bind on Equip. Who wants it?

Breaking News: Applebee's to Open Up In Storm Peaks!
The following is based on completely true facts. No part of this story has been doctored in any way, shape or form.
“Yes! Home from class early.” I run into my room and throw my bag on the floor, and jump on my computer. “Come on you stupid computer, load faster.” I put in my user name and password and off I go—I log in to find my Paladin in Storm Peaks, just where I had left him. “Alright, time to get my artisan flying, stop being lazy,” I tell myself, but who am I to kid? It’s not going to happen anytime soon. Too many shiny things to buy, so little gold to spend on them! I mount up; grab the reins of my…wooden mechanical flying machine, and whoooosh! Off I go at a moderate pace into the abyss.
Creak, crack, clank goes my flying machine. I’ve loved this thing since the day I spent way too much gold at the auction house to craft it. How I daydream as I’m flying towards Naxxramas and all my guild mates are flying past me at incredible speeds of the day I get to fly my epic mechanical flying machine, complete with hula girl doll, wind whipping through my long, flowing beard. Maybe if I just paint the face myself, and

100 Best Websites of the Past 100 Years!
I don't know how stiff the competition was, since I can't think of too many websites that were around 100 years ago, but it's still flattering to be named. :)
Here's what they had to say about us:
With over 10 million World of Warcraft players, there's a huge need for tips, maps, articles and information on items and abilities. Thottbot used to be the standard, but Wowhead appeared and suddenly made searching for anything any everything WoW-related easy and intuitive.
