this is *!@#ing awful.
Seems horrible. Think they're trying too hard at this point.
WF/TF or this corrupted system could work for me, np.What I really really wish for is for them to change the socket rng. Imo, Ilvl should be a status of a players performance and dedication. Being forced to use for ex: 440 ilvl gloves with socket insted of 455 without socket or a 440 ilvl socket no bis stats vs a 440 nosocket bis stats, this is just wrong and i hate it so much. I don't know, might just be me, but when i get a high ilvl item be it no proc/wf/tf i want to use it based on the stats it gives, not based on if it has or not a socket. For example i had a 440 socket cloak crit/haste. I got a 455 cloak no socket same crit/haste but on sims the 455 one was -150 ish dps loss. I kept the big ilvl one just because yes, i want to be as high ilvl i can.As for benthic gear, safe to say that since i got boots with +% crit dmg and socket as a fire mage, those have never been taken of. I simed them out of curiosity vs a 455 ilvl socket nonbenthic boots and in nazjatar it gave -1100 dps.Tl'DR : Change the socket proc mechanic. that's it. delete it. pls . go ahead blizz. press delete on it.Or don't delete it, keep it the same, but give me the option to farm/grind something and create a socket on an item of my choosing.
I want to stack max corruption....just for %^&*s and giggles. I do kinda wish the changes to character models was more than just becoming darker. Like tentacles or eyes appearing on your body/gear. You know old god stuff. I'd be sick to walk around as a shadow priest with max corruption being a beacon of absolute corruption. Or to get a Paladin and watch them slowly become more corrupt. It sounds fun RP wise but absolutely not for an actual system, i think Activision is forcing Blizzard to make systems that retain player playtime.
I'll keep Titanforging, thanks! This RNG, on top of RNG, on top of more RNG plus a helping of "boy will this impact group content..." just doesn't seem like much of an improvement to me.
Seems like it could be an interesting system. Bonuses and negatives, and with a way to cleanse too. But it doesn't really help the titanforging issue, other than not having more item level, as its still RANDOM.
I don't like that items can forge period and would rather have the whole system removed entirely, however I would much rather maintain the current TF system than what they are offering here. Maybe it's just time to move onto a different game for a while. Kinda liking some of the stuff Riot is coming out with in the near future.
evenworseforging
Sounds pretty stupid, but I'll wait till it goes live to make any judgments.
This system is meant to give u a choice between the regular item or that item but corrupted so basically it means u can play the whole thing completely with regular gear or u can play high risk-high reward with corrupted gear, its not a worse version of titanforging because with titanforging u can get gear that makes more difficult content irrelevant by getting them from an easier source whereas for corruption the gear gives u effects and is the same level as the original gear. So like an example u can get a heroic ilvl gear in normal with titanforging, but with corruption u can't get heroic ilvl gear from normal, so if u want heroic gear u do heroic and so forth
Unless the method for Cleansing is reasonably easy to come by, this is going to seriously impact my desire to play during Patch 8.3. I don't raid, I don't have a group of friends to consistently run high M+ keys. As a consequence I have come by very little Residuum. If Cleansing works to the same scaling, then I will be left either keeping the gear I bring into the patch and just trying to make do, or sitting out the patch.
Thematically, sure, this system fits. We also don't know the final magnitude of the curse effects - they could be effectively inconsequential and something that you just deal with for the (relatively) powerful benefits. What I dislike is two RNG rolls on each item. Rolling for a good effect and a low amount of Corruption feels the same as Benthic, rolling for a good effect and a socket. Here's how I hope the final system will work:1) Every item has a predetermined Corruption effect. The Corruption effect is powerful, but does not scale with Corruption; it is what it is. The magnitude of the effect should scale with ilvl, but the differences should be minor. Assuming this system extends to M+, a dungeon piece might have both good stats and your best effect, even though it's 15 ilvls below Mythic raid gear. Given the farmable nature of M+, you can farm for a piece with as low Corruption as possible.2) When an item drops, it has a chance to roll as Corrupted. This enables its effect and gives a random (within a range) amount of Corruption.3) Different Corruption thresholds introduce curse effects. To keep things a bit simpler, it'd be better to NOT scale the effects with Corruption and instead increase the size of the gaps between Corruption thresholds. Something like 0-30 = effect 1, 31-60 = effect 2, etc. 4) Items can be cleansed to deactivate the effect and remove their Corruption. Additionally, other 8.3 mechanics such as the new Essences or the Legendary cloak can reduce Corruption.5) Changing our characters' appearance with higher Corruption is cool, but there should be an item or buff we can use to hide the effects. So, we'll be farming for specific pieces that have the most beneficial effects. The RNG lies in how much Corruption those pieces roll with, but we'll have systems to mitigate the negative effects. Get a piece with an average effect, but high Corruption that puts you in an annoying curse tier? Cleanse it. Get a piece with a great effect, but high Corruption that puts you in an annoying curse tier? Then a decision will have to be made, and you may have to cleanse another item with a good effect or switch your Essence to reduce Corruption. I don't mind pushing RPG decision-making, but only if players have ways to mitigate bad luck. Sockets being predetermined would be great, too. If they're going to add RNG in one area, they should reduce it in another. This isn't a looter shooter or an ARPG, and our sources of (the most powerful) gear are limited. It'd also allow Blizzard to balance the stat budgets of socket items to give a bit less baseline, in exchange for giving the player the choice of picking their best stat to socket in.
I had no problem with Titanforged. Hell most of the time, it helped me doing higher content because I didn't have time to raid all week and got lucky with a piece or 2 so I had a respectable Ilvl that people didn't instantly DECLINED.This Corrupted crap? It is still Titanforged but WORSE in every way possible. It adds more RNG and now you also have to GRIND for the loot you just got to be actually USABLE. That resistance will not come without grinding APs or somecrap that I HATE.
