lets get down to brass tacks, first and formost vanella was a huge game had tons of amazing stuff to do we played thehell out of it made more than 1 toon we liked it so much and then 3 xpacs later the game is dieing i dont care what anyone says the dev team has gotten freaking lazy dont tell me that they can only make 700 new quests ever 16 mounths the game is dieing becouse it has no content. when you remove all of your old end game content you take that much game from other players its fine to get ever one to 85 in 3 weeks but when there nothing at 85 to do somethng is broke. yes im the king of run on's . i left a few weeks ago for a few reasons number 1 if your going to be a game that hangs everthing on questing you need more than a few 100 new quests ever 16 months that old tired dinosaur adds 1500 new quests ever 6 months they dont add 700 quests plus 4 raids and 5 levels they had 10,000 new quests 20 new zones and 10 new raids ever 6 months get off your ass and make content we want it put so much in it that we cant run out i could quest in eq for the next 20 years and never run out of quests to do yes wow looks better plays better is even more fun but when i run out of stuff to do on the kiddie game i go play everquest or perfect world or any number of other free games add more classes add more races add the blasted talents back in add in a aa system so people can truly customeize there toon and make it like eq it takes a full level of xp to get a aa point eq may only have 90 levels but it has 4000 levels worth of aa's. if ever free game on earth can have player houseing why doesnt the best have it and dont say money you guys make more money than any mmo to date. and ya make more content lasting content we'll put you grand kids through college. lets talk raids. raids are fun but my server sucks progressive wise were the guys that complain that ever thing is too hard so besides a normal and herioc how about a easy mode less to no gear per boss, make the all fights tank and spank no crap on the floor to dodge just a nice simple way to see the story how it ends just plain story mode raids. i dont need gear i just want to see how the story unfolds. make raiding what it is for uber gear but for questers we fell a bit left out doing all the story and not getting to see the end of it tell the next xpac when we can trash it in new greens lol.last thing i got 3 whole new spells this xpac my 5 years old could have made more than 5 new spells for each class jesus how about liek 20 for each class hell if you worried about makeing them to powerful make the quest related spells epic quests spells, ok there is 1 more make a full set of epic weapons for each class and not the ok go do the lastraid 50 times tell you pull you hair out real epic quests with real epic loot that lasts more than 1 item set . lets talk tech, the game looks the way it does becouse of players computers we know you guys want to know what we have so you know how far you can upgrdade in graphics, well screw that too once again back to the dino the dino had 2 complete different sets if graphics for the whole game 1 set for people that had crap computers and 1 set for up to date computers. also you need to set the lower end even lower im talking about 400x600 im talking pur 1990 vga cards you dont know how many times in icc half of my raid would be at 3 frames you cant beat a boss when your computer is slower than you cast time lol. on the high end kick there butts show them what a true up to date kick ass mmo can be there isnt any reason wow shouldnt have 20 million players twick it play with it add a goddly amount of content and keep it comming
I accept that nothing lasts forever, and WoW may as well fade in the future, but i'm hoping that when that sad day comes Blizzard will make it a free to play MMORPG, with membership, and maybe working on it as a side project. Or if worst comes to worst and its actually gets shut down (i have no idea what happens if an mmo isn't played enough to keep on going) i just hope that they could possibly make a single-player game of it. Still, i don't like thinking about it =( i only joined in wrath, i don't want it to end so soon! XD
Wait, was that Chris guy always WoW's art director or is he the new guy? He never heard that lots of players thinks that TBC was full of most epic looking stuff in entire WoW? If he considers that gear "clown suits", then I'd be happy if this %^&*tard wouldn't be allowed anywhere closer to 100km of art studio, lest we have another iteration of LK's full of "brown and gray all looking the same" stuff.
Being a former hardcore raider i keep playing for nostalgia only. It's no longer fun.Raids are pretty repetitive and time-consuming. What i still find funny in wow is doing bgs casually.Cataclsym was fun during the first month. Playing the new zones, new raids, new bgs, using new skills. But it got boring really soon. Because we already did many raids, bgs etc. It's all the same formula. What i'd like to see in wow is some different formula. Some new activity inside the game.
@KerovaneAbsolutely agree with you there, and hope so more than anything. I've played WoW for the last 6+ years and been a loyal subscriber only with a few break here and there. World of Warcraft has become part of my life, and seeing it in decline really saddens me, as quitting WoW will be no easy task NOT because I'm addicted, but because I love it so much and it really is more than just a game or a hobby. Like I said, it has become a part of my life.
First of all I think it's a good thing that this discussion is coming into the limelight. People are making great points - hopefully the Devs will be responsive to the feedback here and on the official forums. To me, the most disappointing things about cata are:1. Character homogenization and talent/stat simplification. As other posters have noted, class buffs have been made redundant, so that you can get most or all buffs from a smaller sampling of classes, and classes are being given more equivalent interrupts and various abilities, likely in an effort to balance pvp. This might be convenient, but it cuts down on uniqueness. I hated the new talent trees when they came out, and still feel blizz should re-think the smaller trees. Give us 1 talent point per level again, larger trees, and more either/or choices that are just as powerful but in different ways. Finally, re: stats, in the name of trying to make everything easier for them to balance, they made everything less interesting for the players. They made us all wear only our armor type (through the 5% armor specialization), which there are legit reasons for, but it limited everybody's options except clothies. They made gear less dynamic by removing AP and SP, and what was wrong with ArPen? They threw us a bone with Mastery, which I think is ok, and while reforging is interesting and can be complex, it means we are looking less intently for that 'perfect' piece of gear to complete our set and instead just figure, give me the highest ILV one and I'll reforge. Remember when two pieces of the same ILV gear would have different str and int values? It made you keep going until you got the best one.2. The world is remade, but it's not new and shiny. We have 5 new zones, and I think they're great zones. But in TBC and WotLK we had new continents - a complete new land to explore, not just some additions. AND - we had a new capital city. Blizz did a lot of good work with Cata, but it was all remodeling and some additions - not a whole new house, and that, despite all their work, is underwhelming.3. The raids are great, they just need more bosses. That said, I love wow, and I want it to improve and survive, not tank, so let's keep the good suggestions going and hope Blizz listens.-Selvaganesh of Velen
Just an addition to the homogenization discussion...you forgot battle res. Look, Cata was a "swing and a miss", plain and simple. Blizzard tried for a Home Run, and they struck out. It happens. The best major league player still misses the ball. The problem is, Blizzard kept swinging, like some silly cartoon character, instead of going to the batting cages. I think this disussion with Gamasutra is the first step towards maybe at least accepting that they produced a dud. Now, the question is, will they come back with something amazing and refreshing, or will they end up over-compensating and release something even worse? Just a few suggestions I have are:1. Give us an expansion with a more dominate storyline. I actually think they did this the best with Wrath. From the very start, to the final cinematic, we knew what Wrath was about. Even if you were not a Lorefiend, you knew who the Lich King was, where he was, why he was there, and you felt his presence throughout the expansion. I have leveled 6 toons to 85 in Cata, and I still couldn't give someone a good "explaination" of the storyline for this expansion. 2. Bring back World Drops, and make them BiS, or damn near it. Hell, make them Legendary. In Vanilla, and to some extent BC, some of the best, most sought after gear were ultra-rare World Drops. Getting one of the was like winning the WoW lottery. They also added, even if it was just a little bit, of excitment while leveling or grinding, because you never knew if your next kill may drop some killer piece of gear. 3. Bring back rare crafting recipies. Same as #2, make a few of them World Drops, and others come from some oddball faction vendors, and boss drops. Crafting now is yet another homogenized joke of its former self. Every enchanter has every enchant, every jewelcrafter eventually has every cut. In BC, if you wanted Mongoose, you had to fight for it. Now, if you want Power Torrent, you gotta trade a few crystals for it. 4. Less gear homogenization. Don't have every 359 item have the same primary stats, and just swapped around secondary stats. If necessary, add in "sub levels" for gear. Give bosses a chance to drop something rare that has a higher itemization than normal. Rather than all tier 12 bosses dropping all 378 gear, have a chance at a 383 or something. Make Best in Slot something you really have worked for, even if some of that "work" was a little RNG luck. Having a chance at a rare upgrade would make killing the same boss every week for 4 months a little more interesting.
