Why does Blackrock Mountain have its own tab? Is it a continent now? HahaSeriously, though. Why?
Very nice guide Ashelia.I use it for tame beast.Gracias.
Because that area has a large amount of rares and the EK tab would be excessively long if we dumped it all together. This seems to be a very strange thing to be bothered by.
Your information on the Mysterious Camel Figurine is incorrect. The figurines have no relation to camels other than they are the same model. They don't spawn near camels. Actually, only 2 of them are sorta near where camels are found. Figurines tend to be near stuff, like ruins, or questing areas, or in areas where there's high traffic (as in you fly through there to get from point A to point B). Think of them more as, figurines that are at ruins, or the npcs found them while digging and have them nearby in their pile of artifacts (2 or 3 spawn near the Schnottz dig sites, 2 near the Northwestern Oasis, where there's a questing hub. The camels are more south. There is an actual camel near the GY where one spawns, but the GY is the landmark, not an area for camels). The ONLY real concentrated area for camels is on the western border of Uldum, north of the Schnottz digsites, and south of the Oasis. So think of figurines this way: They're at ruins which are inhabited by some sort of bad guy, they're "found" by the npcs and the npcs don't know what they are, so have them in their piles or carts of stuff, or they're just in some random spot near a tree or on a rock in the desert, with no real landmarks. Also, they seem to spawn ON THE HOUR. In my week grind of obtaining my camel, EVERY figurine I found was ON THE HOUR or a few minutes after because I was elsewhere in the zone, on my patrolling route. This is about 10-12 consecutive finds. Also, what you didn't mention about the rares of Northrend or Outland, is that the Outland rares are on a global cooldown / spawn timer. Same goes for the Northrend rares. I've completed Frostbitten and Bloody Rare TWICE, so I have plenty of experience in this. Not many really hand in Outland, so you have a good chance of finding rares. I did a lap from Shadowmoon Valley, Terrokar, Nagrand, Zangar, BEM, Netherstorm, then Hellfire, & back to Shadowmoon. In that route, I covered each patrol area where the rares could be. I found about half of them. I decided to do a second route and only skip the rares I killed, and sure enough as I completed the 2nd route, I killed all but 2 of the ones I was missing. Friend of mine killed one of the two before I started, and the other was just killed. Either way, I had to wait the full 6-8 hours before I saw any of them spawn again, and I had to go through and kill other rares just to get the two I needed to spawn.I don't know the number, but there can only be x amount of rares up in a zone (zone being all of Outland), at once. If one is killed, another random one in that zone, can spawn. I did this once on my main, and then on my ex's toon. But, once you kill them all, you won't see another for a while, because they all have their chance to respawn timer (the commonly accepted 6-8 hours). In short, killing one rare can trigger the spawn of another in that zone, and again, when I say zone, I mean Outland. This was much harder to test in Northrend, but I did have a number of occurrences where I found it to be similar behavior as that of Outland Rares. I farmed the elusive TLPD for a long time. I was dual boxing and had my alt in storm peaks (bor's breath), while my main was in Dalaran. The giant in Icecrown spawned, and triggered my mod from Dalaran. I went and killed him. I decided to go fly around Storm Peaks, and sure enough, not 5 minutes later, Vyragosa was flying down the mountain top (near the alliance dwarf town), from her spawn point, towards the heavily camped Bor's Breath. In my initial farm of Frostbitten, I did 2 or 3 laps, and I must have been lucky, but I killed half of the rares I needed in the 3 laps. I just had to check the areas I already checked to see if another rare spawned as a result of the death of another. The only difficult rares were the 3 in Sholazar, because that zone is high traffic, due to herb farmers and miners, as well as hunters looking to tame those rare beasts. My Aotona kill was the hardest because I had to kill an alliance gold farmer (possible bot), who had tagged the rare, before I could actually kill the rare myself. This info is very useful, because it comes from someone who has completed the achievements, twice (and not at the same time). One on Daphnes from Perenolde and the 2nd time on Poedilema from Eitrigg (I think that's the realm, but there is only one Poedilema who's 85 and is or was end game raiding). And, I've farmed all 4 rare spawn mounts, and have them, you can check on my wowhead profile. So, if you're going to write a "guide", please make sure ALL of your information on rare farming is accurate and complete. Coming from someone who has done all of this, and has the evidence to back up and support their theories/claims/statements, it seems as though you're putting up information that is already easily obtainable, but really trying to flash your 129 mounts and get your e-peen stroked. Please fix the info on the Mysterious Camel Figurine so it's more accurate and reflects the data of those who have already acquired this item.Edit: Also, I don't believe you were camping Aotona for 72 hours straight. In the two times I've farmed for her and killed her, she spawned within a 24 hour time period. So, you had to have missed her and not EVERYONE was giving you accurate information. Someone of the opposing faction could have killed her and that was that. If you had "helpers", they may have had her cached due to seeing a hunter pet. I've actually camped Aeonaxx for 72+ hours. Had over 12 cans of soda, was shaking, and half nodding off. There was no data on this rare yet because it was December 7th, and I even had a friend come over to watch a movie, and occasionally hit spacebar just so I could take a 3 hour nap and not miss the spawn. But Aeonaxx is an actual rare, rare, vs Aotona is just on a global spawn timer shared between the other Northrend Rares. Sadly, I didn't get Aeonaxx till 2 months later, because I had just missed him when I got to Deepholm. Another guy found him, didn't know what he was, and dismounted him because it was slowing down his questing. The guide would be more of a guide, if there was less of the "look at my toon" story at the beginning. The story is distracting, and if you're going to post an intro about a rare farming character, at least have something to show for it. All I saw was a player who raids and has an okay collection of mounts (both players I mean). You gotta be in the 150-160 club to really show for farming, and even at that point, raiding & WoWTCG mounts are all that's really left.
"it seems as though you're putting up information that is already easily obtainable, but really trying to flash your 129 mounts and get your e-peen stroked."First off, I have 152 as an Alliance non-paladin (qq 5 mounts) and I am lazy with regards to stuff like the Vial of the Sands. With the nifty new armory feature, you can verify this, even though it has hardly anything to do with describing rares in Blackrock Depths or hunter tames. This is a guide about rare mobs where most of the pictures are modelviewer shots and only a handful of rares are actually related to mounts. I had to take pictures of mounts for the mount guide because, well, it's about mounts...If you are referring to Ashelia, she has none of the rare mounts covered in the Bloody Rare guide so I don't see how she'd be epeening over stuff she doesn't have.I don't think it is a fruitful debate to compare a handful of experiences (your 2, Ashelia's, and mine) with regard to rares because it's still a fraction of the playerbase's experiences. Just like theorycrafting, you can't take one observation/log and build a solid theory around it without extensive testing.I also think it's neat when the Wowhead staff posts about their interest in the game, instead of coming across as impersonal. We're players with interests just like you.
Glad to see the Nuramoc got some credit in your guide. Good job with the whole guide. I've spent a fair deal of camping npc's too... I'm happy to say now I just tame if I feel like it, no longer camping for want of an NPC skin. :)
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but under the Mysterious Camel Figurine section, it says 'Domus the Camel Hoarder', not 'Dormus the Camel Hoarder'
I camped for a long time to TAME Aotona. Not easy, since everybody wanted to kill the poor bird. :)
