8.3 Auction House & Mailbox Woes
N'Zoth's influence extends far and even the Auction House has suffered some horrific visions. It is experiencing the full force of the playerbase all at once and is facing a few issues under the weight of so many auctions.
Likewise, addons such as TSM are trying the best they can to adapt to changes. Things are incredibly volatile right now, so with some careful steps, we can navigate changes and hopefully make some gold in the process.
Here is what we know so far ...
Blizzard
Update on 1/16/2020 at 19:00 PST
Here are some additional issues that we have identified and are actively investigating:
When items are returned in the mail from the Auction House, it can incorrectly contain more stacks than the displayed maximum of 16. This makes it look like some items are not being delivered. You will know if you are experiencing this if a mail appears empty but can’t be deleted.
To retrieve the missing items in this scenario, take out all 16 of the displayed stacks, then close and reopen the mailbox to see the rest (you may need to repeat this several times).
If a character buys commodities in high quantities, they may not be able to access their mail.
The favorites list is not saving properly.
We have resolved some of the issues causing the “Internal Auction Error” to pop up, but it is still occurring and we are continuing to look into it.
–
We’re aware of and working on a number of issues with the new Auction House:
The Upgrades Only filter can show some wands and shields that are not upgrades.
Hotfixed 17th January
While selling certain items, non-related pets will sometimes appear in the list of current auctions.
Players are sometimes unable to buy out an auction in which they are the highest bidder.
Hotfixed 17th January
Sold auction rows can disappear from the Auctions tab.
Sold auction rows can display the wrong quantity sold.
There is no chat notification when an auction sells.
The Uncollected filter can show owned battle pets.
Hotfixed 17th January
While selling a caged pet, the price columns are misaligned in the list of current auctions.
Some players have experienced attempting to cancel an auction that has bids enabled, but no bids yet, and receiving an incorrect warning that they will be charged an extra 5% penalty. This penalty message is only meant to be shown if there’s an active bid on your auction. If there is not an active bid, you can safely proceed with canceling, and the penalty won’t be applied.
We’ll continue to investigate all of the above and develop fixes wherever possible. If you’re experiencing any issue with the new Auction House, we suggest you first disable your addons and try again.
Thank you!
Some of the above issue have already been hotfixed on 17th January as noted as well as the full list below ..
Blizzard
Auction House
Bids now display properly in the sell tab for caged pets.
Fixed a bug causing the quantity field to be empty when selling a non-commodity.
The “Uncollected” filter now filters owned battle pets as expected.
The “Upgrades Only” filter now correctly applies to wands and shields.
The "Usable" filter now filters profession-restricted items and owned toys as intended.
Purchasing an entire listing now displays the item count in the seller's auction list.
Players can now buyout an auction for which they are already the high bidder.
Fixed a bug that caused some mail from the Auction House to exclude expected attached gold.
There have also been many reports of the gold from sold auctions not getting delivered which understandably had many people concerned.
Blizzard
Hello.
We’d like to clarify that nothing has been lost as a result of this issue. This is an issue with mail delivery, and we’re working to fix it. We currently expect that the fix is going to take a few days.
During that time, the mail you can’t see is not subject to 30 days expiry. It will only begin counting down from 30 days once we’ve fixed it so that you can see it and interact with it in your inbox.
There is also an ongoing FAQ on the
WoWEconomy Discord
channel to help shed light on any issues as they come up.
So, what can be done while the issues are getting fixed? Take your time, have patience. Check twice, cut once. I have full faith in the Blizzard team fixing them as best they can. If you are really unsure, perhaps hold onto your auctions. If you want to try with a small sample of auctions you can easily track, that might appease your gold thirst. Or you can do what I did and throw it all on and hope for the best!
Undercutting
Why are people undercutting still?
ProceduralDad
made a very valid point about reasons why some might undercut and how to understand differences in playing the game...
With the new AH, I predict a lot of abuse will be thrown around here about undercutters. As a newly minted goblin, I think I may have a different perspective than most of you.
Until I became a goblin a month ago, I hated the Auction House. I might post an item one time before giving up selling it. If it was high value I might relist a few times, but sometimes I would spend a month not logging into my bank alt to even check auctions, much less relist expired ones.
And of course I undercut all the time. By large amounts. Why? Because that's how I got sales with that playstyle.
You can't be sitting at AH cancel-scanning every day and complain about undercutters. Your playstyle is WHY people feel forced to undercut by large amounts! Unless they undercut by a large amount, their auction just gets buried. So that is why they do it.
It's not because they are dumb. They value different things than you value. Don't insult them.
Hippie_nerdy_gal replies
This! That's how I play the AH.... I'm totally cool if someone wants to buy what I'm listing just to repost it at a higher price. In fact, that's pretty much what I want. I want things to sell fast and for more than I would get at a vendor, that's it. It gets me enough gold to do what I want to.
and ProceduralDad makes a valid point about the amount of undercut
But if they undercut by 1copper, they will be undercut a second later, and they won't make the sale.
If they undercut by 50G, a goblin will buy it to flip it, or a goblin may decide not to undercut it. (As a new goblin, I've done both myself.)
So in fact the depth of the undercut CAN be the difference between sold and not-sold.
It's an interesting perspective and one to remember that everyone plays for their own reasons and what may not make sense to one person, is perfectly valid for another.
Early 8.3 Success Stories
All is not doom and gloom however with N'Zoth corrupting the Auction House. There has been some gold made and profits shared...
Meileo and Lunaree
is a great example of how good preparation beforehand and then well executed on launch day can ensure the gold has the best chance of flooding in (especially when you have proven it works in previous patches). First, they made sure to have plenty of stock ahead of the launch of 8.3. This means having enough
Expulsom
and
Marks of Honor
which are both time sinks in themselves...
Goldmaking! Goal to make millions of gold. :D
I am making 730 pieces of uncanny gear on patch day!
- Expulsom 2550 - Check!
- Marks of Honor - Check!
- Mats - Super Close to Finishing
- Rank 3 - Waiting till 8.3
- Craft 10 of each Uncanny Gear - Waiting till 8.3
I think the results since release speak for themselves!
Goldmaking - Going to round this up to 1.9 million gold made in 36 hours. :D
And I list auctions on 3 other character too. :D
This is spread over 2 different servers, at last count it was up to 2.5 million gold on 3 charactes. Simply amazing! Interestingly, they are selling roughly the same amount, but the prices are double on one server vs. the other. Also, this does not include any of the Enchanting mats that are ready to go ready for the next week! As Hannibal would say, "I love it when a plan comes together!"
Another great example is
DrizzlingRose
who focused on
Hexweave Bags
and Warfront turn-ins ..
im Constantly refreshing AH and reposting when someone posts new posts of the turn ins, this is the most fast pasted gold making i have ever done, my heart is racing like raiding and it feel DAMN GOOD!
made almost enough gold for 3tokens tonight, best goldmaking numbers ive ever had in 1 day, i think ill try this warfront turnin stuff more in the future :3
These examples go to show how gold making can be a success at any time, so long as you recognise when something it good and can capitalise on the success. Please do share your own success stories in the comments below..
