WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 103rd edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
Samadan
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
TSM
. I have a number of guides over on
YouTube
and I also stream my adventures on
Twitch
. If you want to see previous articles, they are all archived
here on wowhead.com
The Feast of Winter Veil
The annual Feast of Winter Veil
is almost upon us! Starting December 16th, WoW is about to get a whole lot more festive! Wowhead's
2019 Winter Veil Guide
goes through many of the events and things you can do.
As a goldmaker, there are many potential opportunites to make some festive gold. Now is the time to dust off your Garrisons and look out for some
Grumpling
pets! There are a few festive craftable outfits Tailors and Leatherworkers can make such as
Pattern: Red Winter Clothes
and
Pattern: Winter Boots
. The price of
Small Eggs
tends to spike around this time as people like to craft and consume
Egg Nog
.
What will you be doing this Winter?
No More Seller Data
Blizzard has announced that they are removing the "owner" field in the API.
Blizzard
It also means that these endpoints on the WoW Community API will be impacted in the following ways:
/wow/auction/data/{realm} - Auction house endpoints will no longer include character name information.
/wow/character/{realm}/{name} - The data structure isn’t changing, but we will be performing an additional check for the existence of a character such that some older, inactive characters will no longer return.
These are the only changes we currently have planned for the Community API. However, we cannot be certain that these are the only changes we will have to make.
Consumers of this API will still need to comply with the Data Protection guidelines 18 that take effect on January 1, 2020.
As a result, sites like
The Undermine Journal
have already removed seller information. This means we can no longer track certain goldmakers on the server. Many have used this to identify and report suspected bots and it also had a certain amount of "bragging rights" being a larger seller on a server.
What are your thoughts? Will this feature be missed?
Prepping for 8.3
Next month sometime (hopefully) will see the release of 8.3 and some exciting new features, not least of which a new revamped Auction House! Thinking ahead to 8.3, what things can you do to prepare for goldmaking? We don't know for sure as things on the PTR always have the potential to change and the reality of live can be a very different experience. Nonetheless, I've compiled a few ideas from the community and myself.
Allied Races
First off we have a bunch of potential for Allied Races entering the game. This will mean returning players levelling their brand new alts. In order to supply these players with levelling gear, namely Enchants and other such goodies. I use the list supplied on spreadsheets such as
this one
from
JBurton
.
So this will mean having a reasonable stock of the following Enchants and the mats that feed them. The bigger sellers for me over the past year are ..
Enchant Boots - Earthen Vitality
- 42 Sold for an average of 403g. Only needs
Hypnotic Dust
Enchant Chest - Glorious Stats
- 47 Sold for an average of 411g. Needs
Spirit Dust
and
Mysterious Essence
, which you can make from Spirit Dust and/or
Ethereal Shards
Enchant Cloak - Gift of Haste
- 50 Sold for an average of 426g. Dreanor Enchanting is pretty easy to get mats (
Temporal Crystal
) through your Garrison.
Enchant Cloak - Gift of Versatility
- 34 Sold for an average of 464g. Same as above.
Enchant Neck - Mark of the Claw
- 35 Sold for an average of 1,800g. Legion enchant requiring
Chaos Crystals
and
Leylight Shards
Enchant Ring - Binding of Haste
- 67 Sold for an average of 556g. Same as above.
Enchant Weapon - Crusader
- 39 Sold for an average of 1,218g. A good seller, but watch for prices of
Righteous Orbs
as these control the price and supply.
Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force
- 127 Sold for an average of 501g. Easy to make with
Mysterious Essence
, but by far my most frequent seller as it's useful for many classes..
There are also Shoulder Enchants from Inscription, and Leg Armor and Threads, but are limited in their level range, so as far as I know sales are less. It's still worth looking into as you never know what will sell. I've sold 7 Enchanted Spellthreads this year for 10k total.
Crafted PVP Gear
This follows along the lines of previous iterations of gear for many of the professions - Honorable, Sinister and Notorious.
The new gear Uncanny
, will be iLevel 400 (currently). This was going to be the same iLevel as the catch-up gear (Black Empire), but sadly
that has just been buffed to 410 and 415
. This is a blow similar to the Notorious/Benthic conflict of the current patch and we saw a big hit in sales compared to Sinister Gear. However, all is not lost, Notorious Gear has seen a steady increase as the patch progressed and my hope is the same will happen with Uncanny Gear. There is a further post
on Reddit here
.
What can we do to prep? Well, I previously mentioned collecting
Marks of Honor
for your Rank 2 and 3 versions. It may also be worth stocking up on the mats required for these items if you can find some at a good price. Particularly look into how you are getting your
Expulsom
and the mats required because you will need a lot of it!
Raw Mats
The first thing that springs to mind is what will be in demand? The core gameplay with this patch is about doing
Horrific Visions
to upgrade your cloak to make you more adept ad handling corrupted gear and preparing you for the raid. My thoughts on this is that players will want to advance as much as possible, and that will mean consumables. I'm thinking personal food and potions are likely to be in high demand as people try to min/max their experience.
Those wanting to craft the aforementioned PVP gear will be seeking mats to create those. My prediction is we will see spikes and slumps in many of the base materials still needed in the game. Keep track of those you personally use in your crafts and try to stock up on a little bit more than usual.
I'd be particularly keeping an eye on the price of ..
Zin'anthid
Anchor Weed
Osmenite Ore
Gilded Seaweave
Tidespray Linen
Dredged Leather
Once 8.3 releases, I'm sure the new food mats of fish and meat will fluctuate highly, so perhaps be prepared to collect those if you so wish.
Gold Making Ethics
There was a very interesting
post on Reddit by u/Grumpy_Muppet this week
asking what would you do if you bought something that was clearly undervalued?
Ola Goblins.
So I was browsing the AH yesterday, aiming to sell my potions that I sell on a daily basis. But when I ran a post scan I noticed that was below the crafting price (even below the ToT crafting price) which does not happen alot. Since I was curious about what the price was now (TSM minbuyout did not reflect that low price just yet) I canceled the postscan and I looked up the prices. Whaddayaknow:
Someone posted 60 stacks of 20 Unbridled fury potions for about 3 gold a potion (60 gold per stack). The normal price is about 60 gold per potion, so he clearly wanted to put it up for that I bet. I bought them up and posted my stack for the normal 1c undercut price.
What would you do? Would you give him back the 60 stacks with a COD of 3 gold a potion or would you keep it and make a 68.000 gold profit?
Like to hear you guys oppinions
It's a very interesting question and has as varied responses as there are people. This is a game, yet how we carry ourselves and the decisions we make can reflect our own approach to life. What would you do?
Keep it.
Give it Back.
Wait until asked and then give it back.
Sell it for a profit and split
Self Recruiting Alts into your Gold Guild
A lovely new feature that passed my by recently was shown to me last week on stream by
Handlebar Walrus
and that was the ability now to be able to easily recruit your alts into your own guild. The new guild interface allows the Guild Master to setup a recruitment page for open invitations. You are then free to log out and apply via your alts without having to pester your friends to handle the invites. It's a really convenient feature for those of us who have guilds because we need the extra storage! Handlebar also made this nice little video to show the process at work ...
Case Study: Qyune's Brutosaur Challenge
Qyune
has been doing some wonderful gold challenges of late. First, to get enough for a WoW Token and more recently, starting the long road towards the Brutosaur mount. You can follow his progress over
on Twitch
. He also
has a fantastic spreadsheet
covering all his activities.
Now the approach Qyune has taken is different to
the one we featured last week
using Taliesin as an example. Qyune want's to keep his approach accessible to all as a basic building block for gold making. He has set himself a few simple assumptions and guidelines ..
One character on a fresh server starting level 1.
No Alts.
No prior knowlege of gold making.
Average of 2 hours gametime a day.
No flipping or advanced gold making methods including crafting
So how does he make his gold? Well, the approach is simple... Firstly, get to level 120 as it opens up more opportunities. On the journey to 120 while questing and doing dungeons, he has picked up Herbalism and Mining and will mine ore and pick herbs as he finds it on the way. The main focus here is that the higher levels allow more zones to open up. It really helps to have flying unlocked for the later 3 expansions, especially BfA. Once you have flying, give the mount
Monel-Hardened Stirrups
and
Coarse Leather Barding
.
Once he has collected some herbs and ore, he will post them on the Auction House using TSM as a purely basic guide for prices. If something sells, then he will use that as an indicator as to where to go next and repeat the process. It's very simple, and that's the point! Anyone can do it with a bit of time.
As you can see in his graph below, he has already made his first million in just over a month!
If you would like more information,
check him out on Twitch
as he frequently streams and also
a written guide to the Brutosaur Challenge on Reddit
going through the Token challenge in August.
