World Boss Mortanis - Six Minute Release Timer, But You Still Get Loot/Quest Credit When Dead
The first World Boss of Maldraxxus has spawned -- and not without some issues. This week, it's
and this quest rewards 250
fight begins by spawning waves of
, while the boss himself is untargetable. He then transforms into a giant winged skeletal mob, but continues to spawn swarms of
throughout the fight. He also has a bad spike ground effect ability called
, but trust me, you won't even be able to see that coming.
Between the great player interest of this mob, added to the swarms of minions, the
has been plagued on many servers by soul-crushing lag. Turning down graphic settings doesn't seem to help; I turned them down to 1 and this made no difference. The raid I was in disconnected twice during this fight, resetting the boss both times. The huge bursts of lag and crowded conditions makes it hard to see ground effects.
More, if you die, you are inflicted with the debuff
and informed that you have a
6 minute timer
before you can release (it counts down from 180 so this is a bit confusing, but the text is clear). This is unrelated to whether you have died previously; this is not a function of increasing amounts of time related to death counts. Put simply: you're not getting back in the fight.
However, before you panic, there are two things you need to know:
First, you will be able to release shortly after the boss is dead, regardless of the timer. You don't have to wait the full six minutes.
Second, even if you are dead,
you will still get full credit for completing the boss, 250
, and you will automatically receive any loot you might have earned.
Not everyone gets loot, but if you do, it will go straight into your inventory. Looting the boss is not required.
