Warcraft Radio
have released their interview from BlizzConline with Morgan Day and Steve Danuser, which includes topics such as class stacking, story-based world changes, Valor Points and more!
We've highlighted some of the points below, but make sure to listen to the full interview for more discussion regarding PvP tuning, secret Mythic raid phases and more!
Warcraft Radio Interview with Morgan Day and Steve Danuser
Class Stacking and Encounter Design
The first highlight in on class stacking and encounter design this expansion, when Athalus asked if Morgan Day was surprised that some guilds used 4 Unholy DKs. Morgan Day then responded with the following:
We always try to design our encounters so that certain classes that have different strengths and weaknesses can really shine. We want to have that opportunity to feel like a hero on this fight or on the next fight and when we're talking about people who are working at , they will find any little thing that can do to optimize the best they can. So when we see things like that, we're like yeah, they're strong on this fight by a little bit so of course we're going to see more of them. And we always do try, towards the back end of the raids to make sure that we're testing enough of those elements of combat and class design that you might try to stack early on but then maybe you're going to hit a roadbump in the fight where you have to take a step back and look at what your composition is again and switch it around and eventually turns into a much more balanced composition.
Story Based World Changes
In a question about many of the world environment changes this tier (Kael'thas for the Venthyr or the Anima Stream Environment in Oribos), they mentioned that in general, they really like having consequences for the encounters that you face. In the past, the story was dependent on the last boss being defeated, but they're being more mindful on putting story in other places, so that even if you're not a cutting edge raider, you can still see the story progression. They mentioned that we'll see this line of thinking going forward in Chains of Domination and future updates.
Steve Danuser did mention the following, which is exciting! What do you think it could be?
Without getting specific, I can say that when you complete the Sanctum of Domination raid, you will see a big visible difference in the Shadowlands.
Valor Points Tuning and Caps
We recently datamined some of the Valor Point values on the Patch 9.0.5 PTR, which many players have expressed as concerning due to a low cap and high costs. In the interview, Morgan Day talks about Valor Points and how tuning is upcoming, but there is a cap to prevent stockpiling.
For Valor in particular, I think there will actually be an update next week. The tuning numbers that we have been putting in there, we're continuing to iterate on, although Valor in particular has a little bit lower of a cap that some of these other currencies do, so it won't be possible to stockpile months and months and months of it.
