Ve'nari Rep and Stygia May Be Locked Until First Weekly Reset in Shadowlands
A new debuff has been found in the Maw on the Shadowlands Beta, hotfixed into the game at a late hour on Friday night. This debuff has lead us to believe that Ve'nari Reputation and Stygia may not be obtainable until the first Weekly Reset once Shadowlands launches.
Recently, Game Director
Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that
Mythic 0s, Torghast and Renown will be closed until the first Weekly reset on November 24th / 25th to avoid any players getting an advantage from leveling quickly.
Ve'nari Rep and Stygia Locked Speculation
However, some players were concerned that didn't mention the Maw, which also has Weekly Quests (and Daily Quests) which would provide a massive bonus to
and Ve'nari reputation to any player who leveled quickly which seemed like what Blizzard was trying to avoid.
mentioned this on Twitter shortly after Ion Hazzikostas' tweet and it just so happened that Ion "liked" the change on Twitter.
Fast forward to that evening and a new debuff shows up in our
. This debuff reduces the Ve'nari reputation and
earned while the debuff is active by 100% but only shows up for certain characters in game. It may only activate after you progress past the opening questline steps, to avoid blocking people who are trying to complete
This seems like the exact debuff that would be required in order to prevent players from getting an advantage in the Maw until the first weekly reset on November 24th / 25th. It currently shows up on the Shadowlands Beta, which means that it's probably also been applied to live servers and will automatically be removed on the reset.
Two Maw weekly quests would award a total of 1,700 Reputation and 840
, a large sum that would benefit players who leveled quickly. Ve'nari sells many powerful items, including the ability to socket your gear after completing the reputation grind.

Possible Side Effects
However, this does have an interesting side effect if
is supposed to prevent players from getting an advantage before the reset.
One of the first quests after you join your Covenant and get your Covenant ability will be to head to the Maw. The quest
requires you to loot 50
in order to progress, which would obviously not be possible should
be active. If you're unable to progress past this step until the weekly reset, you won't be able to unlock Soulbinds until that time.
