Polygon Interview with Ion Hazzikostas
Here is a quick summary of the interview, but make sure to read the
for all the information.
What's the Problem?
Solo Tanks and Healers were dominant in Torghast, hence the changes on
Blizzard was ramping the difficulty of the course of the first few floors to avoid the trap where players would get to the final boss and realize they were over their head and felt like they wasted their time.
The Beta didn't prepare them for player behavior on live servers, where players were hopping into Layers they weren't geared for, just to get Soul Ash.
Players are able to tell when a Mythic Raid is out of reach due to the gear it drops, Torghast has no such metric and thus, this was a communication issue.
If Layer 1 was a normal dungeon, then Layer 6 would be like a +7 Key and Layer 8 would be a Mythic +13 or +14
What are the Future Goals?
Reduce the length so it's not an hour-long grind
Increase success rate for specs which are struggling
Make powers fun and diverse, not just a stronger version of your rotation.
Make it clear how hard a layer a supposed to be.
Goal #1 and #2 should be fixed in the coming days, while #3 and #4 are more long term with Torghast lasting throughout all of Shadowlands
