The Missing Mounts of Shadowlands
With Shadowlands out for over two months now, players have found ways to obtain most of the
84 new mounts added with the new expansion
. However, some mounts remain elusive, dodging players' hands and have yet to be obtained. Let's explore these mounts and what is known about them.
First on the list of mounts yet to be discovered is the Slime Serpent. This mount taunts players running through Plaguefall and, according to Principal Game Designer Muffinus, it is obtainable since launch or very shortly after:
Since beta, the
Secret Finding Discord
has been hard at work searching for the elusive plagued noodle, but still haven't found how to solve this secret. This mount could be discovered today... or in a few months, when will we learn more about it?
Tahonta and the
Shadowlands has added many different mounts from Rares,
, among many others. However, one of these mounts still eludes collectors.
, a rare in Maldraxxus is listed in the Mount Journal as the source for
. However, since Shadowlands launch, there are no traces from it dropping to anyone in live servers. Players were able to obtain this mount on beta, but there are no drops for this mount yet on live, even looking at sources like
Data for Azeroth
, which has records for millions of players' collections.
Could it be that there's a missing piece that allows Tahonta to drop this mount? Or was that mount removed before launch? Many rare drops that were bugged at the start of Shadowlands were fixed after the holidays but Tahonta was left untouched... could that be intentional?
During Beta, Blizzard had added a World PvP meta achievement called
, in a similar vein to
from Battle for Azeroth. However, as Shadowlands launched, players noticed that this achievement isn't visible in-game anymore, which could indicate its removal. The only trace of this achievement now is in the Mount Journal, where
is listed and has the achievement as its source.
The achievement likely isn't hidden, just likely scrapped, as
wasn't implemented and
, while in-game, isn't easily completable as you only gain credit for killing your own Covenant and not for others. Maybe this achievement will be added back with 9.1 or other future patch?
Back in beta,
, the rare summoned by Necrolord's rank 3 anima conductor at the Theater of Pain, had two mounts attributed to her,
. Since launch, players have been able to obtain
, as it drops from Sabriel for Necrolord characters or purchasable by Necrolord characters for 5000
The second mount,
, hasn't been seen in live servers, was removed from the Mount Journal and lost its model in the game data, using the default horse model if you visualize it. At this point it is fair to assume this mount is not obtainable... or is it??
Extra Mystery - Battle for Azeroth Vicious Mounts
Throughtout Battle for Azeroth and now in Shadowlands Blizzard's Support Article about Vicious Mounts had the following note:
Note: Battle for Azeroth mounts are currently not available at the vendor and will be added at a later date.
Most players imagined that it was intended to be with Shadowlands' launch, but that clearly isn't accurate, as those mounts have yet to be seen in the Vicious Vendors in Stormwind and Orgrimmar. When do you think these mounts will become available? In Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard added many quality of life changes to Legion content, including
an option to solo Legion LFR content
with Patch 8.1, so perhaps we could expect this mounts to reach the vendors with Patch 9.1?
