Tank Threat and Fervent Strikes in Mythic+ Dungeons - Dratnos and Tettles Discuss
This week's GG WoW Youtube video covers the recent change to
Fervent Strike style mechanics
in Mythic Plus. Dratnos and Tettles also give a longer history of how tank threat and anti-kite mechanics have functioned since the beginning of Mythic Plus back in Legion.
Note:: Since recording this video, more abilities that used to Fervent Strike (all or almost all of the ones in Shadowlands Dungeons) have been changed to no longer target people who aren't the threat target.
Though several remain, many of the Fervent Strike style mechanics in Shadowlands Dungeons have been changed to no longer target other players (or pets) if their threat target is out of range. These Fervent Strike mechanics tended to make for surprising and unfair-feeling deaths, especially for newer players to keystones, so Dratnos and Tettles are glad that they're being changed.
It's worth looking at why kiting and Fervent Strikes are in the state that they're in, and a lot of that has to do with Legion. Back in Legion, Tanks had massive threat generation that facilitated kiting in almost any situation as long as the tank could get some initial threat, often during AOE Crowd Control effects. Going into BFA, Blizzard
nerfed tank threat massively
while also making several packs of enemies that were more dangerous than Legion pulls, which often consisted of several mobs that didn't do much of anything.
