Archivist of Ulduar, Auriaya
unfortunately bears no resemblance to the
in Diablo III.
Actually, scratch that. Sonic Screech looks like
makes me think of Sentinel Blast, and
is kind of like Terrifying Screech. But
I have found myself with some time in my hands, and nothing in particular to do, so I thought I'd put another Strategist together. Hoping that somebody actually reads and uses these... ;)
Also, before I actually start writing, I will have you know that this boss is actually rather hard for my guild. I think we might be doing something wrong - it's not that the strategy doesn't work, it's just messy.
After you defeat Kologarn and enter the Observation Ring, you will noticed 4 pairs of
Storm Tempered Keepers
. They guard the entrances to each of the Keepers' sanctums. You will need to pull one pair (I personally prefer two, so you can pull Auriaya on the left or the right side, as it's more comfortable for you) and kill them. Since they are rather interesting mobs, here's the short rundown:
Storm Tempered Keepers
- Tank them apart. You will notice that the platforms you are on look like two circles, connected with a short bridge-like section. One Keeper in the middle of the first circle, the other - in the middle of the second one. You will want your DPS split - we do melee in the first circle, ranged - the second. You will also want your DPS to be somewhat spread out, and ready to kill the
that travel between the Keepers every so often. The Keeper that summons the Sphere will alternate, so if you get the first one from the first circle, the second one will come from the second, etc, etc.
You don't want any Spheres to reach the Keepers. And you want to kill the Keepers at the same time. The reason I am spending so much time on these guys is because they easily wipe raids.
Now that you've managed to clear 1-2 packs of trash before Auriaya - on with the show!
Auriaya, the Crazy Cat Lady
(she is also old)
You will notice that Auriaya and her Sanctum Sentries patrol between the platform in front of the Halls of Winter, and the one in front of the Hall of Memories. You probably want both of those points clear of trash, so you can pull whenever you are ready. She patrols
, and it's a real pain to wait for her.
First, the pull. You want to do a line-of-sight pull, where hide behind one of the short columns on either side of the circle. You want Auriaya and her Sentries to come in melee range of you before they start attacking. A Death Knight with
or a Hunter with
are best for this. If the Sanctum Sentries see anybody, with or without aggro on them, they will
them. The damage may not seem like a lot, but if one player takes several Pounces, enhanced with the stackable
the Sentries might have, you might find yourself a player or two short in the very beginning of the fight. Tanks should probably use their cooldowns for this initial pull, as they are likely to take a huge spike of damage otherwise.
should be your first burn priority. If on Normal, it's fine if your OT keeps them both in the group as the DPS finishes them. On Heroic however, you will need a second OT to drage 1-2 of them away, to reduce the number of
Second thing to watch out for -
. You want (almost) everybody in your raid stacked somehow in front of the boss. Not necessarily in a single pile, but on a single line at least. Melee DPS are allowed to dance between Auriaya's back and front, as long as they manage to get in front with the rest of the group in time. Sonic Screech usually comes shortly after a
. The fear will have you scattered all over the place, and the Sentinel Blast might leave your tank low on health (
s are priceless for interrupting that Blast). Make sure you are well in front of Auriaya, so nobody takes fatal damage.
used occasionally is nothing to be afraid of. The Swarming Guardians are many, but don't hit hard and can be easily AoE'd down.
will spawn 60 seconds into the fight. You can kill him, but keep in mind that it has 9 lives and each time it does, it leaves a Void Zone on the ground. He will also be completely untankable and will keep Pouncing randomly between raid members. To compensate this, every time it dies, its damage will be reduced due to the fewer stacks of
. Usually killing it 1-3 times is enough to allow the healers to continue healing without too much worrying about the raid damage. The Feral Defender is perfectly stunnable.
If you have a Death Knight in the raid, they make precious OTs for the Feral Defender. When the cat is at ~10%, have your Death Knight Death Grip it away from the raid, and hit it with Chains of Ice immediately after. It will keep it there while the ranged DPS finishes it off. A wonderful way to avoid Void Zones.
The Antechamber of Ulduar
- Defeat Auriaya to earn credit for this achievement.
Crazy Cat Lady
- Defeat Auriaya without killing any of her Sanctum Sentries. It's a tough achievement, because there are a lot of stuns and interrupts involved. You can either bring some extra tanks and healers (especially on Heroic), or do a complete zerg and hope for the best.Required for
Glory of the Ulduar Raider
- Defeat Auriaya after killing the Feral Defender 9 times. This is a somewhat easy achievement, you just need to decide on several tanking locations (and be ready to quickly switch between them) in case Void Zones fall in your group.
Champion of Ulduar
- Defeat Auriaya on your first try for this lock-out period, without anyone in the raid dying. I have no advice for you here. Pop all of your surviving cooldowns in the beginning and hope to get lucky.
"Some things are better left alone!"
"The secret dies with you!"
"There is no escape!"
"You waste my time!"
