Stormwind and Orgrimmar Embassy NPCs Updated on 8.2.5 PTR
The Stormwind and Orgrimmar Embassies have received some NPC changes on the 8.2.5 PTR.
Rise of Azshara
, the embassies are filled with important NPCs, each of whom has a unique recruitment scenario. For example, Eitrigg starts
for Mag'har Orcs while Moira Thaurissan starts
. However in Patch 8.2.5, all of these NPCs are gone--only Aysa Cloudsinger (A) and Ji Firepaw (H) remain to help you recruit the races. All of the other NPCs inside the embassies are representatives from the Allied Races.
As the story of
Battle for Azeroth
progresses, it makes narrative sense for the major faction leaders to travel beyond the embassy. The Pandaren leaders haven't contributed much to the story recently, and it's logical that they'd take on a welcoming role in the expansion, recruiting new Allied Races instead of directly aiding the bloodshed.
Perhaps the change in NPCs could also foreshadow some big changes, such as character deaths, and moving all the recruitment quests to a few NPCs could free up storytelling logistics in the future. Some of the NPCs present in the embassies already feel outdated. For example, Mekkatorque resides in the Alliance embassy, but after the events of Dazar'alor, he's encased in a block of ice. Tyrande is no longer in Stormwind, instead fighting to reclaim Darkshore after the Night Warrior ritual.
Speculating even further, this could help pave the way for a removal/rework of factions, by putting two NPCs in charge whose culture is built on peace. Should the factions be removed, then Allied Races could be acquired by either factions, and it would make sense to have a neutral NPC handing out quests instead of one with a history of bitter rivalry.
