Shadowlands Pre-Patch Zombie Invasion Strikes Again - New Players Die During Intro Cutscenes

Not even brand new characters are safe from the scourge infection, as redditor Superab has earned the dubious honor of
dying during a new character introductory cutscene
! While characters are not flagged for PvP while in Alliance or Horde territory, these traditionally safe starting areas don't grant the same protection against players who have been turned into zombies by the infection.
Interestingly, this only happens to new characters who begin at the traditional race starting locations, while characters who come from Exile's Reach are given an explicate immunity against the infection. The logic would appear to wanting to avoid the event disrupting the brand new player experience until they've become familiarized with the game world, while veteran players already know what they're getting into... which in this case amounts to sudden and inescapable death. Another
commenter
points out that the reason low-level Alliance and Horde territory exists is to stop this kind of behavior on PvP servers, although the Scourge infection doesn't seem to play by the same rules!
Although certainly disruptive, the pre-patch event only lasts another few days before Shadowlands launches in earnest, and you can still avoid the plague by sending new characters through Exile's Reach instead of the traditional starting areas.
