Return to Lordaeron Patch 9.2.5 Questline Playthrough
Patch 9.2.5 brings a questline in which players return to Lordaeron. We have played through the questline! Story spoilers.
The questline is almost the same for Alliance and Horde characters - Alliance characters start the Lordaeron questline with the quest
from Greymane and Horde characters start with
from Calia, both NPCs showing up at the Enclave in Oribos. The quest objective is the same for both, meet Calia in Brill. You can talk with a
to secure transportation to the Tirisfal Glades. Alliance characters will be provided with a disguise to be able to complete the questline.
As you arrive in Brill, you will notice that the Horde city has been hastily rebuilt, the scar in the land from the Battle for Lordaeron at the beginning of Battle for Azeroth still very much present. As you arrive at the Brill Inn, you will meet with Calia and Deathstalker Commander Belmont, who is openly opposed to Calia's very own presence.
Calia assigns you to
, collecting three important Forsaken figures scattered around Brill - Dark Ranger Velonara, Lilian Voss and Master Apothecary Faranell. Lilian and Faranell assemble at once, but Velonara wants you to first help cleanse the outskirts of Brill in
After the Forsaken council is gathered, it is time to attend
, where the gathered Forsaken discuss what they must do to reclaim Undercity as their own home. Although Belmont is still adamantly opposed to Calia's very own presence, Faranell admits he needs stronger plague eaters to be able to eat all the plague surrounding Lordaeron. Calia suggests gathering a piece of the plague to Maldraxxus, so the plague lords might be able to develop a way to strengthen the Forsaken plague eaters.
You can also speak to all the members of the congress to gather their opinions on Calia.
Lilian: All right. What are we going to do about the plague in the Undercity?
Belmont: Don't you mean what are we going to do about her?
Velonara: We should focus on the blight. Faranell, do we have any more of your plague eaters?
Faranell: This is my last one, and it's a puny thing. I can make more, but to be effective, they must be formulated to survive the plague!
Calia: If I may... Our allies in the Shadowlands might be able to provide insight. In particular, the plague-lords of Maldraxxus.
Calia: Master Apothecary, what do you need to make your creation stronger?
Faranell: Nothing less than a pure, undiluted sample of that plague. From deep within its reaches.
Calia: Very well. I will help acquire that sample for you.
Belmont: That is one solution.
Faranell: She won't succeed.
> Why wouldn't the Forsaken welcome you?
It begins with my name. I am Arthas Menethil's sister, and I was once a member of the royal house of Lordaeron.
Though I was never intended to rule, and nor would I seek to.
Some might see me as seeking authority where I have none, or representing the Alliance when I do not. Or some hear the name "Menethil" and are rightly horrified by my brother's actions.
But I am my own soul, and I have lost as much to the Scourge as any survivor of Lordaeron. All I wish now is to help.
> Do you trust Calia?
I haven't decided yet. But I've got my eye on her.
> Why don't you trust Calia?
Is she really one of us?
She wasn't raised like we were.
She didn't suffer like we have.
Does her heart burn with anger, and her ichor flow with spite? Has her every moment of undeath been locked in a battle to survive against those who wish all of us, permanently, dead?
How can we trust her?
> How do you feel about Calia?
Some might also ask if the Dark Rangers are to be trusted, as well. We were Sylvanas' closest cohorts, and even we were left behind.
I have declared my allegiance to the Forsaken. Calia should be given the opportunity to prove the same.
> Do you trust Calia?
I suspect she would not be as accommodating of my work as the Banshee Queen was. Sylvanas was many things, and among them, she was our greatest patroness.
The future of the Apothecaries must be ensured. I will accept nothing less.
Calia then offers the power of the Light to wade through the Lordaeron blight and collect a pure sample in
. Calia's shield nearly falters by the end of the quest, but you two succeed in collecting a plague sample! With the plague sample acquired, we head to Maldraxxus with Calia, Lilian and the last small plague eater in
In Maldraxxus, we talk to Margrave Sin'dane, who suggest we talk to Plague Deviser Marileth at the
(not before mentioning that the plague eater we bring to Maldraxxus was crafted by someone particularly sadistic!).
In the meantime, Calia and Sin'dane talk about the nature of Calia's undeath.
Calia: Before I take my leave, Sin'dane, may I speak to you concerning the nature of undeath?
Sin'dane: You will find no one with greater knowledge on the subject than I, mortal. Proceed.
Calia: The Forsaken were raised through necromancy, and this shared origin has provided them a sense of unity.
Calia: I, however, was raised by the Light. That difference has caused me to wonder if I can ever truly find a place among them.
Sin'dane: Necromancy is the art of animating unliving flesh. Here in Maldraxxus, we use the magic of Death to accomplish our craft.
Sin'dane: But whether these rituals are empowered by Death or Light or any other magic, necromancy is necromancy. You perceive a difference where there is none, child.
Calia: Then perhaps I have found my purpose...
Calia: Thank you, Sin'dane. Your perspective has been a great help.
We approach Marileth wading around the House of Plagues, who of course is very happy to help us, all in the name of science of course. Marileth knows the plague eater needs to be fed, and tells you to bring it to cauldrons of "food" in
, while Calia wants to further help by having it eat slimes and plaguerocs in
As we empower the plague eater, the Lordaeron blight grows stronger as Marileth experiments on it, until it becomes so powerful that it needs to be put down! Marileth is sad about this, but the plague must be put down in
. Doing so does empower your plague eater to be resistant to the plague coating all of Undercity!
With the empowered Plague Eater in tow, you're then requested to
, and thankfully Lilian provides you with
for a quick return to Tirisfal Glades! When Calia reports about the blighyt sample eventually turning feral, Faranell is astounded at the genius of his work. We're now tasked to mount on a Shadowbat and deploy plague eaters through Lordaeron in
. As they eat through the plague, they will eventually merge into a gigantic plague amalgam that must be defeated.
With this, you sucessfully help clean the upper portion of the Ruins of Lordaeron! Task done, we witness the creation of
, the new Forsaken leadership council.
Lilian: No more excuses. No more Banshee Queen. The Forsaken have many different points of view, and we should be led by a council, not a single ruler.
Velonara: My fellow dark rangers and I are with you.
Belmont: Are we really going to trust a Menethil on the council?
Calia: I cannot escape the shadows of my past, but I have no desire for a throne. My place is here among you, and I vow to serve all our people.
Faranell: I take you at your word, Lady Menethil. And we, the Apothecaries, will help shape our brighter future.
Lilian: Then it's settled. We are the Desolate Council. We are the Forsaken.
Velonara then offers the quest
, talking about her sentiments as a fellow cohort of Sylvanas (if you're Horde), or recognizing your disguise and offering any Kaldorei Dark Rangers to return to the Alliance if they so wish (if you're Alliance).
The questline is divided once again at this point, if you're Horde or Alliance. Alliance players receive the quest
, in which you return to Greymane in Oribos with a
, in which Calia hints at a withdrawal of Forsaken troops from Gilneas.
The ally you sent to aid us was most effective, and in return for your patience, I offer welcome news.
With the formation of the new Desolate Council, one of the first topics I propose is the withdrawal of Forsaken troops from the kingdom of Gilneas. In time I hope that we may come closer to agreement, and see both lands into a brighter future.
<The Pallid Lady>
Greymane is surprisingly happy about this outcome:
Greymane: Well... this is welcome news. I find myself surprised in a pleasant way, for the first time in a long while.
Greymane: Let us all hope that the future is indeed brighter
Horde players receive the quest
, in which you walk to the Lordaeron throne room with Calia and Lilian, and witness a cutscene with them talking about the ghosts of their past.
