References to Former Blizzard Employees Jesse McCree, Luis Barriga, and Jonathan LeCraft Removed in WoW
Blizzard is removing in-game Warcraft references to former employees Jesse McCree, Luis Barriga, and Jonathan LeCraft via hotfixes today, several weeks after they were
let go from the company
. This follows the
renaming of Overwatch hero McCree
and announcement that
Blizzard was removing WoW references to other employees
recently let go.
Currently, another popular Blizzard game, “World of Warcraft,” still contains references to Jesse McCree in the form of five character names and one city name. However, multiple current employees who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisal said Thursday that nods to the longtime level designer will be removed from the game soon as well. In addition, references to two other former Blizzard developers, “Diablo 4” director Luis Barriga and “World of Warcraft” designer Jonathan LeCraft, will also be removed. A Blizzard spokesperson confirmed these changes.
“We can confirm that those references in ‘World of Warcraft’ will be removed,” the spokesperson said.
Some changes already live include:
The inscription "Signed by the author, Lawrence E. Craft" in
has changed to "Signed by the author, Noah Scribeson," and the NPC in Boralus has been updated
All of the Bloodmyst Isle quest rewards referencing Jessera of Mac'Aree have been changed, like Jessera's Fungus Lined Tunic, to "Maatparm's <item>.
Marshal McCree has been renamed to Marshal Patterson, and the Elwynn quest reward McCree's Sparring Gloves is now Patterson's Sparring Gloves.
Senior Scrivener Barriga in Dragonblight has been renamed to Senior Scrivener Kinnedius.
Jessup's Report from the quest
has been renamed to Kharmarn's Report, and Jessup McCree from the Gnome starting area has been renamed.
Torturer LeCraft from the Northrend quest
has been renamed to Torturer Alphonse.
The "Summon Crusader LeCraft" spell for
has been renamed to "Summon Crusade Jonathan".
At the time of writing this post, the name removal seems to be a work in progress as some NPCs remain like
, as well as the Argus city of Mac'Aree. While this may seem like an obscure reference, last week Blizzard
told The Washington Post
that they were looking into renaming a city in Warcraft. We will update our post if we find any further changes.
