Battle for AzerothTides of Vengeance

The top 10 list is split evenly between Battle for Azeroth 8.0 and Tides of Vengeance 8.1. This is likely due to Tides of Vengeance cramming more updates into each build over a short time period, giving players more things to read and hype up.

Recurring topics in popular builds include Azerite updates, broadcast text, Druid Forms, and updated character models such as Jaina or Tyrande.

The #2 build had slightly more traffic to the news section than the #1 build, but ultimately the first Battle for Azeroth build won out due to much more traffic to the talent calculator and Dressing Room.

#10 - Battle for Azeroth 26287 - March 22

Blood elves received golden eye customization options on the PTR, marking one of the first times a non-Allied race received more customization options.

We learned how the Mag'har Orcs joined the Horde, which created quite a bit of controversy.

Blizzard announced offensive cooldowns are on the GCD, an unpopular decision.

Class Changes included new Discipline mastery and some talents. Blizzard announced offensive cooldowns are on GCD.

Professions - New Hearthstone Enchants and crafted weapon models

Allied Race / Character Customization - The Dark Iron Dwarf Racial Mount and ram tints for Dwarven and Dark Iron Paladins were added. While not an Allied Race, Blood Elves get golden eyes!

Armor / Weapon Models - New crafted profession weapons as well as a few weapons from Nazmir and Battle Dungeon featuring an eyeball offhand. We also got our first look at Uldir armor - the mail set. Many items pointing to pirate transmog added.

Creature Models - There are really creepy Drustvar Beast Men.

Zone and Quest Updates - Boralus saw the addition of Proudmoore Academy and a prison area populated by guards and Horde captives.

Broadcast Text - Lots of lore reveals including the story of Uldir, why Mag'har Orcs join the Horde, and new snippets on Vol'jin and the Burning of Teldrassil.

Dungeons and Raids - Zul and Mythrax Mythic achievements added. G'huun confirmed as final boss of the raid.

Followers - Minor Updates including renaming Rangari Sharpshooters to Exodar Peacekeepers.

Fun Items - Pirate Transmog, Vol'jin and Profession Items.

#9 - Tides of Vengeance 27895 - October 3

We saw our first look at the new Azerite Traits and the additional ring in Season 2.

Rastakhan and Saurfang received shocking new models.

Database: The class datamining pointed to the 5th Azerite Ring. Other updates included Icons and Questionframes, Professions

Models: Rastakhan and Saurfang received updated models, hinting at the direction their stories take in the patch.

Lore: The Battle for Darkshore Horde Questline was added, stirring up controversy with several plot twists.

General Updates: This build updated the Siege of Zuldazar Boss List, opened Faction Incursions for testing, and allows players to solo queue for Legion LFR.

#8 - Tides of Vengeance 28202 - October 23

This build added several currency vendors, to combat complaints of RNG - Warfronts Currency, Island Expedition Currency, Azerite Impurity Currency.

Lor'themar Theron received a beautiful new model.

The Saurfang questline added player choice, allowing players the option to pursue different storylines if they are loyal to Saurfang or Sylvanas. This is one of the first times in WoW a choice has been added to an important story quest.

Database: The class changes for this build saw the much-anticipated Shadow Priest buffs (and some DK nerfs). More azerite traits were added, as well as Database Updates - Paragon Rewards, Toys, Pets, Azerite, PvP Talents, New Models - Lor’themar, Masks, Weapons, New Icons and Assets.

Battle of Dazar'alor: Battle of Dazar'alor saw numerous updates. New mounts were added, including the Armored Skyterror from the achievements meta and the Gilded Edition G.M.O.D from Mekkatorque. The raid continued to receive updates with Battle of Dazar'alor Maps and Battle of Dazar'alor Updated Encounter Journal. More rewards were also added - New Famed Slayer Titles, Bejeweled Crown Transmog.

Mythic+: Season 2 M+ updates found their way to the PTR including the Reaping Affix and Azerite Impurity, as well as the Azerite Impurity Vendor on PTR

Story Updates: We played through Vol'jin's Questline, in which he investigates Sylvanas' promotion to Warchief, as well as the Alliance War Campaign. Notably, player choice was added to the Saurfang questline.

Lore/Broadcast Text: This build added some shocking broadcast text for Derek Proudmoore. Lorash Sunbeam, a minor character in the pre-patch novellas, also returns with a new model and broadcast text, indicating a plot twist.

New Vendors: Vendors for several important aspects of BFA were added: Warfronts Currency, Island Expedition Currency, Azerite Impurity Vendor

Item Highlights: This build was huge for mounts, adding many new models such as Toads, Priestess’ Moonsaber, Gilded Edition G.M.O.D.. It also marked the return of Paragon Reputation with numerous rewards. This build also added Water Elemental Tint Glyphs, New Battle Pets

#7 - Battle for Azeroth 26624 - May 15

Hunters received new pet families including the ability to tame unicorns in the Stag family.

The Aquatic Form for Kul Tiran Druids was revealed.

Darkshore reflects the destruction of Teldrassil.

After many years without updates, collections received new achievements for collecting extreme amounts of mounts, pets and toys.

Class Changes - Sub rogues got a few new talents and many interesting Azerite traits added. Mages got interesting Polymorphs and Shaman got interesting Hex! Hunters get a bunch of new pet families, including the ability to tame unicorns. Some classes also received visual updates - Hunters received a new combat ready animation and demo warlocks received updates.

Professions - There have been a lot of changes to professions in this build. Highlights include new primary stat potions, recipes that create follower equipment, tailoring cloak enchants coming back, and old engineering perks getting nerfed.

Allied Races - Kul Tiran Aquatic Form added for Druids. We also learned the end of the Mag'har Orc Scenario.

Broadcast Text - We learned about Yrel, Lilian, and Drust magic in the latest broadcast text.

Zone/Quest Updates - Darkshore and Stormwind Harbor reflect the destruction of the Burning of Teldrassil. Boralus continues to get updates, including a Puppy Shop and Black Market Auction House. Zuldazar has received NPCs selling Zul Gurub recipes. Tirisfal Glades has received visual updates reflecting the aftermath of the Battle for Lordaeron. Stormwind and Orgrimmar are filled with refugees and Orgrimmar has a God of War reference.

Achievements - Lots of new collection achievements for high amounts of mounts, pets, toys and more. Also Uldir meta achievements, Dueler's guild achievements, and BFA Pathfinder Part 1. We also learned more about PvP Achievements and changed prestige ranks.

PvP - In addition to achievements and Prestige Ranks, we learned about Dueler's Guild and War Mode rewards such as 征服者的镰牙之喉.

Raids - Uldir Armor and Weapons were added to the Dressing Room. Uldir Trinkets had their procs added.

Fun Items - This build saw dozens of mounts, pets, and toys. Most notably, 炽焰炉石天马 is a reward for collecting 400 mounts and 雄壮商队雷龙的缰绳 costs 5 million gold but comes with an auctioneer. Many reputations saw their rewards added including special polymorph and hex tomes.

#6 - Tides of Vengeance 28151- October 17

This build revealed the beautiful Blood Elf Heritage Armor Appearance Set!

It was a good week for models with the addition of the Battle of Dazar'alor Plate Armor Appearance Set, New Gelbin Mekkatorque Model, and cute baby raptors.

Database: This week's class changes included New Azerite Traits and Death Knight Nerfs. We also saw Database Updates - Mounts, Pets, Azerite, PvP Talent, Voice Over Audio - Tyrande, Malfurion, Sylvanas, Bwonsamdi, and New Icons for Battle fo Zuldazar gear, Warfronts, and Heritage Armor

Battle of Dazar'alor: Raid updates included a New Gelbin Mekkatorque Model, a stunning Battle of Dazar'alor Plate Armor Appearance Set, and the usual updates to the Battle of Dazar'alor Updated Encounter Journal

Warfronts: This build added the remaining Horde Cloth Set for Warfronts, themed after the Forsaken.

Allied Races: We saw the highly-anticipated Blood Elf Heritage Armor Appearance Set. For older Allied Races, Blizzard doubled the reputation gains from Argussian Reach and Army of the Light World Quests.

Items: This bid added many new battle pets from Warfronts, a useful scouting map which unlocked flight paths for alts, new mounts like chimeras, and New Baby Raptor Pets.

#5 - Battle for Azeroth 26231 - March 14

This build was huge for customization options, adding vulpera fur, Dark Iron Dwarf Facial Tattoos, and Upright Orcs.

This build also unofficially confirmed Kul Tiras Allied Race Druids, with the datamined Kul Tiran Bear Form.

Class Changes included new Azerite Traits, Frost Mage revamp, and the Monk class buff Mystic Touch.

Professions - The Scrapper and Expulsion added, as well as some new PvP recipes and correct Alchemy reagents.

Allied Race / Character Customization - Vulpera Fur Marking Customizations and Dark Iron Dwarf Facial Tattoos were added to the Dressing Room. Upright Orcs were added to the barbershop options on the Alpha. Dark Iron Paladins possibly got a datamined mount.

Armor/Weapon Models - Kul Tiran Cloth Dungeon, Pirate Hats, and Lumberjack Shirt were added. The Cloth Sets have a strong Old Gods vibe. Blackrock and Frostwolf Tints were added for Mag'har Orcs - hopefully they'll be obtainable. Several Nazmir and Battle Dungeon Weapons were also added.

Creature Models - The biggest update was the Kul Tiran Bear Form, essentially confirming the addition of the Kul Tiras Allied Race. The Zandalari Druid Feral Form received animations so it looks less stiff.

Zone and Quest Updates - Boralus received new details as well as a new Jaina quest. The Chapters of War quests to visit the enemy continent were available, although buggy. The Burning of Teldrassil received an in-game model and Island Expeditions opened for testing.

Broadcast Text - Jaina and Saurfang had some interesting updates relating to the people of Kul Tiras disliking Jaina for her past actions, and Saurfang reflecting on his dislike of Sylvanas.

Dungeons and Raids - The final boss of Siege of Boralus was changed with a new description (Spoilers). Undermine was renamed to the Motherlode.

Followers - Many Horde Troops were added and Magister Umbric, Hobart Grapplehammer, and Ty'jin were added as champions.

Fun Items - 菠萝披萨, 召唤暗炉山羊, 勇猛的作战裂蹄牛

#4 - Battle for Azeroth 25976 - February 6

This build marked the start of Friends and Family Alpha.

With servers up, we were able to start datamining broadcast text and preview new spell animations.

Allied Races received some major updates. Dark Iron Dwarves received customization options, and jokes/flirts VO were added for the Dark Iron and Zandalari.

Class Changes - The Class Changes included Hunter, Warlock, and Shaman talents. We noticed that class raid buffs had changed since BlizzCon. With the alpha servers up, we were able to preview new talents and updated visuals.

Professions - Professions had many updates including Alchemist tinctures, stat buff scrolls for Scribes, Leatherworking Scuba Set, and Tailoring Battle Flags.

Allied Race / Character Customization - Zandalari Troll jokes and flirts were added. While not an Allied Race, many Female Vulpera customization options were added. Dark Iron Dwarves received racials, jokes, flirts and customization options. Meow Emotes were also added and we learned the class combinations for the Zandalari.

Armor/Weapon Models - The build added Leather Zandalari Dungeon Armor, Horde Warfront Leather Armor, and some dungeon and Warfronts weapons.

Creature Models - New Creature Models include Vulpera Children and some Faceless One updates.

Zones and Quests - This build opened up Nazmir, Drustvar, Freehold, and Atal'Dazar. The Alliance and Horde starting scenarios were added, filled with spoilers. We previewed the two new dungeons Freehold and Atal'Dazar

Broadcast Text - There was a massive amount of broadcast text including Jaina visiting Kul Tiras, Azshara's involvement with Kul Tiras, Battle for Lordaeron, and Burning of Teldrassil.

Dungeons and Raids - We previewed the very early Encounter Journal for the first time. Two dungeons were open for testing.

Followers - N/A

Fun Items - New items include 斯克维里加全地形载具 and Improved Flight Master's Whistle.

#3 - Tides of Vengeance 27934 - September 28

This build packed quite a punch with lore updates, including our first look at the Story of Dazar'alor, how Tyrande becomes the Night Warrior, Saurfang's story developments, engineering battles between Mekkatorque and Gallywix, and the return of Xal'atath.

Heritage Armor Players were eager to see updates to Heritage Armor on the PTR, as it marks the first time non-Allied Races received these sets. This build added the models for Dwarf Armor, the playable Dwarf Questline, and the broadcast text for the Blood Elf Questline

Lore/Broadcast Text Tons of new lore in this build, covering every aspect of the patch...and even some details from Patch 8.1.5: Siege of Zuldazar, Xal'atath, Proudmoore Family, Tyrande as the Night Warrior, Saurfang, Sira Moonwarden, Mekkatorque vs Gallywix

General Updates We datamined some Dark Ranger Armor which was later used for the 黑暗游侠的备用罩帽 toy. Holy Paladins received their first round of updated animations, and there were the usual Class Updates, but most of them reflected hotfixes or scrapped plans.

#2 - Tides of Vengeance 27826 - September 21

The first look at Siege of ZuldazarBattle of Dazar'alor Armor was very exciting, as it marked a step up in aesthetics from the Uldir armor sets.

The remaining Allied Race druid forms were datamined - Kul Tiran Moonkin and Zandalari Aquatic.

This build added the customization options for the Night Warrior, as well as models for Tyrande and Malfurion used in 8.1 Darkshore.

Broadcast text includes hints that dark forces were behind Vol'jin's choice to appoint Sylvanas as Warchief.

Database: In addition to Class Changes, we received our first look at new Battle of Dazar'alor bosses and Notable Items like the return of Xal'atath!

Armor: This early PTR build added many complete armor sets including Warfronts and Battle of Dazar'alor: New Weapons, Kul Tiran Heritage, Forsaken Warfronts, Siege of Zuldazar, Night Elf Warfronts

Tyrande's Ascension: This build added the customization options for the Night Warrior, as well as models for Tyrande and Malfurion used in 8.1 Darkshore. Night Warrior Night Elf Customization, New Tyrande and Malfurion Models, Achievements

Models: Important new models included Mounts like the updated Hivemind, Kul Tiran Moonkin and Zandalari Aquatic Forms, and New Creatures like the Capybara.

Lore: New Scenarios included outlines of Tyrande's Ascension and the Blood Elf Heritage Armor questline. As for broadcast text, we received some that featured the Lich King and pieced together the Blood Elf Heritage Scenario.

#1 - Battle for Azeroth 25902 - Jan 25

We received our first class post of Battle for Azeroth, revealing the removal of artifact traits and changes to Arcane Torrent.

Many creature models were added, including BFA Jaina and Anduin as well as an uprezzed Prairie Dog.

We had our first look at Kul Tiras Humans (later confirmed to be an Allied Race) and Zandalari Trolls including Druid Travel and Flying form.

With this build, we made some updates here on Wowhead! The BFA Talent Calc went live, and we upgraded our Dressing Room to support NPC Skin Tones and NPC Races.

Class Changes - The first class post went live, revealing many artifact traits were now talents, some classes have raid buffs, some utility abilities returned for Druid/Shaman, and Hunter/Warriors received big revamps. Arcane Torrent was also nerfed. Our BFA Talent Calc went live so you can easily track all of the changes.

Professions - We had our first look at professions which revealed the skill cap was drastically lowered and introduced new crafted items for each profession like fun Engineering gadgets for mounts and transmog, the Blacksmithing Khaz'gorian Hammer, and an Alchemy potion that turns you into a cloud.

Allied Race / Character Customization - We got our first look at customization options for Kul Tiras Humans (later confirmed to be an Allied Race) and Zandalari Trolls including Druid Travel and Flying form. We also had a first look at the Zandalari Racial names. With all the hype surrounding Allied Races, we enabled NPC Skin Tones and NPC Races to the Dressing Room. At the Battle for Azeroth Q&A, we learned that Mag'har Orcs would be an Allied Race.

Armor/Weapon Models - New armor included quest sets, most Alliance and Horde Warfront appearances, dungeon armor, and Dark Iron and Zandalari Heritage armor. We previewed weapons in a video including Questing weapons, Xalzaix Offhand, and Fire Sword, and made a comprehensive weapon post on even more models including warfronts, dungeons, and Nazmir raid. We also previewed Kul Tiras NPC fashion including pirate hats and trench coats.

Creature Models - A massive amount of creature models were datamined. Famous NPCs included Jaina, Bwonsamdi, King Rastakhan, Pepe, Queen Azshara, Katherine Proudmoore, and Anduin. Other creature models included numerous dinosaurs, Zandalari NPCs, Drustvar witches, numerous horses, and cute baby animals. Many low-resolution models, such as the Prairie Dog, received new models as well. Several NPC races had many datamined animations, which also heightened speculation that they could later be Allied Races, including Tortollan, Blood Trolls, and Vulpera.

Zones and Quests - While no zones were playable, we got lots of zone music.

Broadcast Text - For our first round of broadcast text, we looked at the escape from Stormwind for the Zandalari and subsequent challenges they face in their homeland.

Dungeons and Raids - N/A

Followers - N/A

Fun Items - Many mounts were datamined including 主脑, 蜜背收割者, and 雄壮商队雷龙. There were also many toys, profession items, and pets like 过度调整的柯基护目镜 and REUSE ME.

Other - During this build period, BFA System Requirements were posted, pre-purchase boosts were available, and Battle for Azeroth standard and digital deluxe was available to purchase which would also add Allied Races.
