Patch 8.3 Visions of N'Zoth - What to Do On 8.3 Patch Day & During the First Week
Patch 8.3 Visions of N'Zoth launches on January 14th and since it is a Patch with many new systems, we're highlighting what is most important to focus on during Patch Day and the first week for improving your character's power! This will help you stay up to date and make sure that you don't miss anything.
What to Do on Patch Day
Intro Questline Walkthrough!
The first thing that you should do on Patch day is unlock all the new systems. This is done by completing the Intro Questline for the Patch, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Details of the entire questline can be found in our
Intro Questline Guide
but here are specific details to make sure you don't miss anything:
When you're get to the Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossom Assaults:
Pick up and complete all the Daily quests that are marked on your map. These all award reputation and 50x
with a bonus for being in Warmode.
Complete all the Invasion mini-objectives for the day. These reset daily and don't show on the large map, but have a mark on the minimap. Fly all around the Invasion to find these, as each rewards reputation and
Rares also drop 20x
but there are many of them and they might not always be up. We would recommend just killing any rares you come across.
When you get to
and are asked to enter the Lesser Vision,
make sure to pick up the daily quest at the entrance before you enter
You're only able to enter once a day, so if you fail to pick up the daily or leave before you complete it, you will miss out on
When you get to
and are asked to enter the Horrific Vision, this is a tutorial Vision and this is your run to learn. You're only asked to enter, so there is no punishment for failure.
In this tutorial Vision, you have no sanity orbs, so your only real choice is to head straight to the final boss (Thrall / Alleria) instantly. These locations are marked with a large skull on your map.
After the intro questline, you're going to have some free time as for this week, the Item Levels will
have increased yet. We're going to go over some of the other things you can do on Patch Day, but can delay them if you wish.
THIS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE WEEK 1
Here's how to unlock Patch 8.3's crafting gear.
Farm mobs in N'Zoth invasions or Lesser Visions for
and use the item
Farm more mobs in the same places for 10x
and then open your professions and craft the Void Focus
While farming mobs, you're also looking for your Profession patterns. If you've collect 10x
and haven't gotten your patterns, keep farming even more N'Zoth mobs!
This grants you the
quest which you can turn in at Wrathion which unlocks the Void Focus and
Normal Crafting gear
which requires you to collect 20x
. Completing this unlocks
Heroic Crafting gear
which requires you to collect 200x
. Completing this unlocks
Mythic Crafting gear
To get the
for the Heroic and Mythic quests, you can do the following. The Arena and World PvP drop rates are estimated from
, make sure to go check him out!
World Boss - 1x
(Probably not available until second week)
Normal Raid Boss - 1x
per boss (Not available until second week)
Heroic Raid Boss - 10x
per boss (Not available until second week)
Mythic Raid Boss - 20x
per boss (Not available until third week)
Arena - ~50% chance from a win.
World PvP - Low chance from a Honorable Kill.
Battleground - ???
As usual, you'll need lots of
and other mats to make these crafts and they drop 5 item levels below the raid level, but do come with a guaranteed socket!
After completing the daily Invasion mini-events and daily quests, if you have extra time, you can always come back and do some extra stuff in the Assaults for a little more
: Collecting Fragments and Killing Rares.
We briefly described rares earlier. They drop ~20
each. These are marked on the map with a standard star. The Rare+ mobs have over 10M health so make sure people are around! We might see Rare farming groups take off again similar to Mechagon and Nazjatar, but it's hard to say now.
There are a set of Fragments that can be collected from each type of Assault. These drop off random mobs in the invasion. When you combine 6 of these Fragments, this unlocks a key that can unlock a special bonus chest in the Assault zone for 500
- N'Zoth Assault
- Non-N'Zoth Uldum Assault (Ama'thet - East side)
- Non-N'zoth Uldum Assault (Aqir - West side)
- Non-N'zoth Vale Assault (Mantid - West side)
- Non-N'zoth Vale Assault (Mogu - Middle side)
Depending on how much of the above stuff you complete, you will earn a certain amount of
. The more
that you get, the more runs of Horrific Visions that you'll be able to run and get upgrades for your Legendary cloak. Turn your
at Wrathion. Each Horrific Vision run costs 1
and if you're in a group, each player must have a
in your bags.
Horrific Vision Overview
WARNINGS: PLEASE READ
Simply entering Horrific Visions doesn't get you Cloak upgrades, you'll need to complete objectives. There are no do-overs, as the second you tell Wrathion to start and enter the Horrific Vision, your
is consumed. Dying or losing all your sanity before you complete the required objectives will make you
miss out on your Cloak upgrade
in that run, so make sure to pay attention. If you disconnect or run out of game time while in a run, your character will still be in the game, taking damage from any pulled mobs and losing sanity. If you manage to get back in fast enough, you might be able to save yourself. If you fail a run, you'll need to catch up by grinding more Coalescing Visions this week or next week.
Legendary Cloak Upgrades
One last warning: You CANNOT use the Sanity orb in combat and it has a cast time. If you're low sanity, don't start another pull in case you don't kill it in time.
It's important to not bite off more than you can chew. Let's go over the objectives and details.
After the Intro Quest
After the Intro Questline and the "Tutorial" Horrific Vision with no objective, you'll now get a quest from Wrathion that asks for a number of Items that can be collected from Horrific Visions. Whenever you complete a quest from Wrathion, he gives you an item to upgrade your Legendary Cloak and another quest. Always pick up this quest from Wrathion, before you complete a Horrific Vision and realize you didn't have the quest.
Horrific Visions also awards
. Between every Horrific Vision run, you should also spend all your collected
on the Titanic Research upgrades. This will help you in future Horrific Vision runs, and you can't buy anything else with Corrupted Mementos until the Titanic Research tech tree is full anyways.
Cloak Ranks 1 - 5
Wrathion will initially ask for
from the first quest, followed by quests that ask for 1x
All you have to do for these items is to enter and kill Thrall or Alleria, and then loot the chest at the end. You can explore, which will award bonus
for each additional zone you can complete but
if you do not kill Thrall or Alleria because you lost all your sanity or died, you will NOT receive your Cloak upgrade
wasting the entire run.
During this stage, if you do not know what you are doing, it's perfectly reasonable to just walk straight to the final boss and defeat them.
I've heard stories of people thinking they can do additional zones on the PTR on the first run and then losing out on the Cloak upgrade because they ran out of sanity. Be careful.
Cloak Ranks 6-11
Once you have a Rank 5 Cloak (end of Week 1 if you're doing everything), Wrathion will now ask you for a new set of items. First, he'll ask for
, followed by quests that ask for at least 2x
Each of the 4 side areas, which are harder and drain more sanity, will drop one of these items. This means that you're able to obtain up to 4
per run if you complete every side objective. This also means that you do not need to worry about killing Thrall or Alleria, though
we still recommend trying your best to defeat them at the end of your run
for gear and bonus
In the first week, you won't get very far into this stage, but at the higher Cloak ranks, you'll start needing at least two Horrific Vision runs per upgrade.
Artifact Power will become uncapped with the release of Patch 8.3. With another Minor Slot, some Stamina nodes and an infinitely scaling Heart of Azeroth item level, Artifact Power will be useful for the remainder of the expansion.
Heart of Azeroth Essences
These are the major breakpoints that you'll want to hit.
Level 71 - 3% Stamina Increase
Level 75 - Minor Essence Slot
Level 80 - 3% Stamina Increase
However, the Heart of Azeroth doesn't cap at level 80. Artifact Power continues to accumulate past level 80 and can still level the Heart of Azeroth's item level up. As Essence Power scales with the Heart of Azeroth's item level, this means that you will still get some value for getting more AP, with no more breakpoints. So if you have nothing else to do, feel free to do a full round of AP world quests.
Artifact Knowledge will also be returning in some capacity -- I will not be making any posts on this due to the constant changes last time, but just know it currently exists on PTR and therefore will likely be part of live. If you've been saving Paragon boxes, you should turn one in on Patch to avoid losing out on any reputation. However, hold on to rest until you're about to cap again or want to hit a breakpoint to benefit from Artifact Knowledge as much as possible.
What to Do For the Rest of the Week
Every day, you can head back to the NPC outside the lesser vision and he will have a new quest for you.
The first time you complete this daily quest (which for this week was during the Intro questline), it will award you with 2,000
. Every other time, it will award you with 1,000
Lesser Visions of N'Zoth
This quest shouldn't take longer than 5-10 minutes to complete, and it awards quite a lot of
. It's very low effort with rather large rewards.
The Non-N'Zoth Assault resets every 3.5 days, which should be Tuesday @ 7AM PST and Friday @ 7PM PST for NA realms. This means that you will be able to complete a second assault every week, gaining another 5,500
Since you probably have extra time this week, complete the extra daily quests marked on your map for bonus
. These don't take too long to complete, you might actually spend more time flying to Vale than actually completing the daily quests in Vale. This also grants bonus reputation to work towards a Rank 3 Essence or the Infinite Augment rune
Similarly, the Assault Events reset daily and completing these grants bonus
and reputation as well. These grant more reputation but less
than the daily quests.
Mythic+ gear levels have not increased this week yet, but you're going to want to have a +15 key for the next week of Mythic+ when Season 4 actually starts for the max Weekly Chest.
However, as with the start of every Season, it's likely that Blizzard will drop Keystone levels by some number. This is likely to be at least 3 keystone levels, all the way up to 5 (as the dungeons are being scaled by 4.5 key levels), plus one additional level for standard decay.
This means that you should try to complete at least a +19 this week at a minimum. You should do it this week, as this is before the scaling changes happen and the K value changes are applied to dungeons making them much more difficult to complete. Having to time a +14 with the new scaling will be much more difficult than already having a +15 keystone and just slowly working through it.
Here's the schedule for Mythic+:
Week of January 14th
: No change. Dungeons are the same difficulty, same rewards.
Week of January 21st
: Mythic+ Weekly Chest will contain a
reward. Dungeons will have the 52.6% scaling factor applied, K values will increase, rewards will increase and keys will decay but some amount (likely 3-5 additional levels). Complete a +15 key this week for the maximum reward. Item level will be capped at probably 450 (likely +6) for End-of-dungeon Chests. NEW
for Keys 10 and above.
Week of January 28th
: Mythic+ Weekly Chest will contain a
reward. End-of-dungeon chests will cap at +15.
