Musician Dryante Zan Combines Covers of World of Warcraft Themes with Real World Visuals
Musician Dryante Zan combines glorious atmospheric covers of World of Warcraft themes with delightful and appropriate real world visuals. His latest cover is of David Arkenstone's mournful yet serene Tauren theme, Mulgore Plains. Long shots of himself playing the instruments at dawn in a location that bears more than a passing resemblance to Mulgore make this a soothing and relaxing watch as well as listen.
In the game, the Tauren culture is an allusion to the North American Indians with all the inherent trappings such as wooden totems, feather headdresses and worship of the spirits of nature. The music was no exception, David Arkenstone did an excellent job highlighting the Indian atmosphere. The theme song around Thunder Bluff in the tauren home valley is one of my favorites in World of Warcraft, and I tried to play it as close to the original as possible with pimak (Indian flute), shaman tambourine, djembe and maracas.
Dryante plays all of the instruments himself, and, along with Stacy Zan, operates the cameras. In game you can hear these themes not only in Mulgore, but anywhere that Taurens have an established presence. You can also step back in time and collect the
