How to Increase Your Movement Speed in the Maw - Hunger of the Pack Trinket, Druid & Worgen Abilities
You can't mount or use Gunshoes in the Maw, so we're covering multiple ways to increase your movement speed in the Maw to prepare for Shadowlands. This includes Druid and Worgen special abilities to travel at mount speed, while all players can get the Hunger of the Pack trinket from Legion's Halls of Valor to get a burst of movement speed whenever a mob dies!
Maw Zone Guide
Hunger of the Pack
is a Legion Trinket from
in the Halls of Valor which grants you
30% Movement Speed for 10 sec
when you defeat an enemy that awards experience or Honor. As this trinket's effect has not been level capped, you will be able to use this while leveling and especially in Maw segments when you're not able to mount. This will be especially useful in the Maw bottleneck at the start of the leveling experience, to hopefully get you ahead of the pack.
You might want to head to the Halls of Valor in the next few days, give Hymdall a hi-5 and start farming this trinket as it'll give you a nice speed boost when questing through the Maw. Remember that Halls of Valor is part of Legion and now has Legacy Loot enabled, meaning you can get it as any spec or class!
Druid - Travel Form / Mount Form
200% movement speed in the Maw
and are the only class to be able to do so at launch. If you play a Druid, congratulations, you'll be zooming through the Maw at mount speed.
In addition, by using the
from the Dreamgrove, this changes
, allowing you to take a +1 on your very fast adventure through the Maw! You might want to find a Druid friend to level with in Shadowlands and to do Quests with at max level.
Worgen - Running Wild Racial
Despite most mounts not working in the Maw, the Worgen Racial passive
will work in the Maw! This will let you travel at
200% movement speed in the Maw
and are the only race to do so at launch.
Runeblade of Baron Rivendare
in Stratholme drops this weapon. It grants a
10% increase to your movement speed
. As this item is not level capped and weapons can be swapped in combat. you can use this to travel to the next pack and swap back to your regular weapon to fight in combat.
This will be a small but noticeable benefit to travelling in the Maw if you can handle weapon swapping.
kits can be used in the Maw, especially when used from a vantage point. As the first area is slightly downhill, you will get some good use of it!
Limited Time Increases
can be used in the Maw and grants
150% Bonus Movement Speed for 8 seconds
. However, this will no longer be usuable once you hit level 51, so you may use them the first time you're in the Maw for the leveling experience, but not future times.
At higher levels,
can be used for
70% Bonus Movement Speed for 8 seconds
, but these are from Shadowlands Alchemy and probably won't be crafted for a long time.
You may wish to further increase your speed in the Maw using a Speed Set, as there will be downtime where you don't need to fight anything and simply need to walk to the next objective. As you start to level up, you're not going to want to engage in combat in your speed set as the gear will fall out of date quickly, so you'll have to be extra careful at swapping back to your regular gear before you engage in combat.
This includes any gear with the +Speed Tertiary stat on it.
A piece of gear with a
Movement Speed Gem in it.
Note: Azerite Armor traits will be disabled so
will NOT work.
Mounting in the Maw Comes Later
In addition, we learned in
our interview with Ion Hazzikostas
that there are two mounts that can be used in the Maw that can be used later and on alts that are leveling through the Maw!
