In the first two weeks of the expansion, there will be a multiple ways to get gear and increase your Item Level. In this guide, we're highlighting the notable Gear drops and their Item Level in the first two weeks of the Shadowlands expansion, and recommending the activities that you can do to optimize your gear.
Gearing Up in Shadowlands - Item Level Guide
Changes to Gear in the Shadowlands
In the Shadowlands, there are some fundamental changes to how gear works and drops. Compared to Battle for Azeroth, you'll once again have necks and capes on the loot table as there's no longer a
taking up the loot slot for an entire expansion or patch.
No Warforging or Titanforging
Gear from Shadowlands activities will no longer Warforge or Titanforge the way it did in previous expansions, and Corruption is also a thing of the past. As such, all rewards have a set item level, making it much easier to decide which gear is worth prioritizing as an actual upgrade. However, less loot will drop as a result.
The personal loot system continues to be in effect for Shadowlands, without any group or master loot options, which means that items may only be traded to other players if you already have an equal or higher item level piece of gear that is bound to you in that slot.
Sockets Only on Certain Pieces
Sockets on gear can only be found on Helms, Rings, Necks, Bracers and Belts in Shadowlands. Gear drops can still roll with sockets randomly, which adds a small element of RNG. However, just like Patch 8.3, sockets can be added to these items by using
, which can be purchased from Ve'nari in the Maw once you get enough reputation and Stygia.

With Renown 6, and Raids not open yet this means that THE highest Item Level per slot that you can get during the first two weeks will likely be

, as it's likely that players will not be able to hit Exalted with any faction in this time. However, Legendaries will likely be able to be crafted in the first 2 weeks, which will be the only item to be above Item Level 184.
By the end of the first two weeks, a player who is looking to optimize their Gear will have an
Item Level 184
piece in each slot.

Crafting (Item Level 151 - 168)
Crafting has undergone a number of changes in Shadowlands, offering greater flexibility and control in the end product by allowing players to use Optional Reagents which increase the item level, or guarantee otherwise randomly determined secondary stats. Each profession creates its own type of Crafter's Mark, which effectively translates into extra reagents in exchange for a higher item level.
By default, these items will craft at
Item Level 151
but can be increased to
Item Level 168
as an optional reagent.
Normal, Heroic, and Mythic Dungeons (Item Level 158 - 184)
Normal and Heroic dungeons can be entered manually or queued through the dungeon finder, and completed for gear as many times as a player wishes to queue. Mythic dungeons cannot be queued for and will only award loot once each week.
To enter Mythic dungeons, players must always manually enter the dungeon instance portal, although they can use the Group Finder feature in order to create a group beforehand.

Legendaries (Item Level 190 - 235)
Torghast, Tower of the Damned, is one of the defining activities of Shadowlands. Located deep within the Maw, this eternal prison is a procedurally generated, rogue-like scenario which challenges players to climb ever more dangerous floors in order to gain loot, currencies, and craft legendary items. Along the way, players will gain extraordinary Anima Powers to help conquer the challenges within, which greatly enhance their power, but can only be used within Torghast and are lost upon exiting the activity. This randomness gives the activity a great amount of replayability, and the ability to craft legendary items which can be taken outside of Torghast and into other parts of the game offers a compelling reward.
Torghast, Tower of the DamnedTorghast Legendary Items Overview
Torghast will not offer any direct gear drops, but the main draw is in crafting Legendaries, which have special powers similar the Legendary items of the
expansion. Unlike those previous drops however, Shadowlands Legendaries offer much more control, allowing players to craft up exactly what they want. At the Runecarver's Chamber inside Torghast, players will take the
