Frostbitten: Guide to All Rares, Part 2
We covered a number of rare spawns in
Beyond Bloody Rare: A Guide to Rares
last year, but we found even more fun ones we wanted to share with you!
While some rares drop a random assortment of greens, a fair amount have specific loot associated with them--some for transmog, some just for status or bank alts. Rares have a ton of personality with their unique models and names, usually after pop-culture references, so it's fun when their loot has some humor as well. We scanned all the rares in the database to see which ones had anything notable!
In this guide, we've provided mouseover images of the rares, maps, and links to any unique loot drops.
In the previous guide, we covered: rares for achievements, hunter tames, notably-named ones from classic instances and zones, and Cataclysm rares.
A note on droprates: many of these mobs had their levels and loot tables adjusted in Cataclysm. Drops that were nearly guaranteed from mobs are now extremely rare. If the loot's been rescaled for Cataclysm though to match a mob's new level, chances are it still exists in game--as several users have reported. If an item's level doesn't match a mob's level at all, it's probably been removed from the loot table unfortunately, like for
--but it can still be found on the AH.
Many rare mobs in starting zones drop BoE bags, like
. These bags aren't great, but they're BoE and a good way to get fresh characters started.
An additional group of rare mobs drops "Imbued" gear, items added in Cataclysm that are green, and therefore moggable, versions of identical older common-quality drops. Together these greens form the following sets:
Imbued Disciple's Regalia
Imbued Pioneer Garb
Imbued Infantry Mail
Furbolg: Imbued gear

The Graveyard Wing has three rare spawns that can drop some great twink gear. If you don't see them upon reaching the Graveyard, kill straggler mobs which can force them to spawn. These rares can spawn by the two small tombs on the left and right of the main path, as well as inside the main tomb.
Azshir the Sleepless
, an ethereal human rogue with an eyepatch, strangely drops great caster gear that can't be replaced with heirlooms:
, an undead warrior in red plate gear, drops rares that are less useful if you have heirlooms:
, a Scourge fighter, dropped rares that were nerfed in Cataclysm to prevent modifying them with high-level enchants:
