Engineering Crafted Azerite Helmets have Secondary Stats on the 8.3 PTR
In what is almost certainly a bug, the newest version of Engineering crafted Azerite helmets have secondary stats on the 8.3 PTR! Only the newest tier of crafted helmets are rolling stats, but this is a departure from the norm, as Azerite items throughout
Battle for Azeroth
have intentionally lacked secondary stats so as to not further complicate gearing issues already presented by juggling Azerite bonuses.
Crafted items in Battle for Azeroth are much more limited but also much more competitive than previous expansions, while professions only create one or two raid-level pieces of gear, the early availability of Mythic quality items allows for an early power advantage, and many items such as Jewelcrafting Rings serve as Best-in-Slot for the length of the tier. The Engineering Azerite Helmets have rarely been the
possible piece obtainable when compared to Mythic Raid drops and specific Titan Residuum pieces, but the early high item level Azerite has made it worthwhile for many classes. Adding secondary stats to the helmet would upset that balance, as it would almost certainly end up the strongest Azerite helmet in the game for most specializations regardless of the traits present, lending further weight to the idea that this is a simple crafting bug.
Cannot stress enough that this is almost certainly a bug!
Scrapping also returns 25 of the 30
required to craft.
Thanks to Wilwal for crafting the item and bringing it to our attention.
