Diablo: Immortal is going to be a great game
First, we're fans of this game. The ambience is everything we want from the Diablo universe. The gameplay takes that familiar world and gives you a quickly understood interface, although it might be unfamiliar to non-mobile gamers. It is, however, very quick to master. By the time you finish the tutorial and get into the story line, you will begin to understand that this is a very deep game with many different systems and ways to advance your character and develop your power.
Diablo: Immortal is not going to be a 'phone game'
The majority of our readers are, of course, PC gamers. So, it's important to note that this is not just a phone game. It's far better on the larger screen of a tablet. More importantly, it will definitely be available on the PC via a number of emulators, although it was specifically developed for Android and iPhone. It's hard to imagine that Microsoft, in particular, will not ensure that Diablo: Immortal is highly playable on a PC.
Blizzard is taking a careful, well planned approach to Diablo: Immortal
There is a lot to like about this update. It tells us that Blizzard is actively encouraging feedback and listening to what users have to say. They continue to emphasize the MMO aspect of Diablo: Immortal with important changes to the social systems like Clans and Warbands. This is not something you generally see in mobile games. We'll be writing more on this unique feature of Diablo: Immortal soon.
They are also seeing and addressing an issue that appears in many multiplayer games. How do you keep more casual players from being left behind, while giving the more dedicated cadre meaningful rewards and a challenging end-game experience? This is certainly going to be an ongoing tuning point.
Release timing for Diablo: Immortal
Finally, there is one thing this update didn't tell us; when do we get to play the game again, and will it be another beta or a release? Two points stood out. Blizzard now says they plan for a 2022 release, versus prior estimates of first half of 2022. While that is disappointing, they also said in multiple places that further changes to address the points outlined will occur "at release." Maybe it's premature to speculate, but it sounds like the next thing we will get is a release date, and not another cycle of beta or testing.
