5.2 PTR: Troves of the Thunder King and Isle of Thunder Scenarios
Several single-player scenarios coming in 5.2 were recently open for testing. This includes some scenarios tied to unlocking new phases of the Isle of Thunder War Effort, but more importantly, a new scenario that lets you make hundreds of gold for 5 minutes work!
Troves of the Thunder King
Troves of the Treasure King
is a new single-player scenario in which players try to grab as much loot as they can from treasure chests before their 5 minutes are up. This is made harder by the presence of numerous challenging traps in the zone designed to attack and slow you down. In this video, Lore from

To begin the scenario, you will need to give Taoshi a
, which can be found from
scattered around the
or looted from killing some rares.
The most common type of chest is
. This has the chance to contain:
, used to purchase reputation insignias such as
, used to summon elites.

. You'll need to open 10 in one run to complete a step of
When the time runs out or you complete the run, you'll be taken to a special area filled with
. You can only open these chests with
. They have a chance to contain the rewards above as well as
. Based on Blizzard's most

, there is also a small chance to get epic loot! No word yet what that could be.
There is a gold counter tallying your riches as you complete the instance--you can easily make several hundred gold, as Lore did, without too much practice.

While there are many treasure chests in the scenario, they're all guarded by traps.
The first room contains some basic pillar traps that periodically cast lightning (
), as well as Mogu statues that activate and do an AoE stun (
) if you do not move away. Since lightning can slow, this can easily turn into a bad slow + stun combination. There are also
s that don't hit very hard, but can web you.
The second room is more complex and has many tile traps (similar to the Ruins of Guo-Lai) as well as traps that port you several feet and begin to damage you if you step inside their radius. In addition, there are several NPCs present.
is the most interesting as he moves very quickly and can open doors for you, but can also be killed for
The third room adds the presence of
. At the end of the scenario, you'll fight
, who'll try to knock you back into all the harmful traps we've described along the way.

Speed Run Enhancements
As Lore pointed out in his video, there are several reputation items that can help negate annoying traps. Most cost one
, so if you can grab a few more chests as a result, it seems like a good investment:
: Can be used to levitate over tile traps, fall at a reduced speed, and walk on water during the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. Taking damage will break this effect. Requires Friendly, costs
: Puts the target in a magically-induced sleep for 25 sec seconds. Only works on humanoids and beasts within the Troves of the Thunder King secnario. Requires Honored, costs
: Can be used to distract an enemy or trigger a trap during the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. Requires Honored, costs
: Places a rune that will freeze the next hostile target to step on it for 20 sec. Only usable in the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. Requires Revered, costs
: Consume an arcane focus to launch yourself forward. Can only be used during the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. Requires Revered, costs
: Magically reshape the key to fit any Ancient Gate in the Thunder King's Citadel for the Troves of the Thunder King scenario. Requires Exalted, costs 3x
There are two types of runes scattered throughout the instance: a beneficial green speed rune, and a harmful red paralysis rune that stuns players.
Stage 3 Scenario:
You fight off Zandalari and open up the Lightning Forge with the help of Taoshi, which later allows you to craft
weapons that resemble TBC Blacksmithing ones.
There are several buffs that can help you out:
Stage 2 (killing Zandalari):
: Killing enemies heals you for 30000 every 1 sec for 5 sec sec.
Stage 5 (killing Mogu):
: Melee, ranged, and spell haste increased by 10%. Additional applications increase duration.
Stage 5 (killing Mogu):
: Heals the target for 5% every 3 sec for 18 sec.
Stage 4 Scenario:
For this scenario, you'll help Taoshi reclaim the Shipyard. You'll dodge traps in the courtyard, stealth through the ship and knock out guards, and fight
in a dramatic lightning-filled showdown.
