Just received this mission and the payout shows at 3600 gold with my current crews and ships, I have Ghostly Spyglass unlocked and came looking to see if this counter is required for success, I will have to drop a different counter in order to cover a double cursed crew battle, so the risk is high as well as the payout.

It is possible to get the bonus effect Treasure Map on this mission to increase its gold output by 100%.

Add in both Mrgrggrgl Mark III and a dwarven/goblin crewed destroyer, and you can get 6000 gold at 100% rate.

You could use two dwarf/goblin ships for 8000 gold, but the chance to succeed wouldn't be 100%.

This mission is an initial 2000g when it procs.
You can earn 4000g if you 100% it using the Murloc destroyer and another destroyer with a Dwarven Crew.
If the treasure map buff is over the quest before you start it you get an extra 2000g.

It's possible to get 6000g using 2xDwarven Crews but the success chance is only 84% and you risk losing both ships.
My advice is to stick on two "unsinkable" items on each ship. That will give you a 75% success but at least your ships will survive; and in my experience a 99% mission will fail just as much as a 75% one. good luck.
