How Long Does Leveling Take?
Leveling from 100 to 110 can be done in as little as 6 total hours. The time can be sped up greatly if you have
completed and unlocked flying, level during a Legion Invasion, have rested experience, and upgrade your heirlooms to Level 110 in Patch 7.2.5.
Every expansion, the level cap is increased and once again you're greeted with an experience bar, allowing you to level up and become more powerful.
There are many ways to gain experience, such as PvP, battle pets, archaeology, gathering, dungeons and of course outdoor questing which is what this guide is going to focus on. There is a large quest bonus at the end of each zone's main storyline that awards a large amount of experience that is worth doing. Players will also be able to gain bonus experience through the following ways:
Rested Experience: Log out in a rested area to gain 100% bonus experience from kills depending on how long you were logged out there.
After unlocking the Class Hall mission board after level 101, several missions will grant experience (~5% of a level) upon completion.
In addition, players can acquire bonus experience multipliers through several events:
10% through Darkmoon Faire -
or riding the Carousel for

Patch 7.2.5 introduces the ability to upgrade your previous heirlooms to level 110. You can buy

aren't as useful as other expansions due to Artifact Weapons, they will be useful for players who only leveled through Legion Invasions or for completing off-spec Artifact weapon questlines as level 110.
Because of this, there are a maximum of 7 total heirloom slots that can be upgraded to grant bonus experience from 100-110 for a maximum total of 55% bonus experience.
Helm - 10%
Shoulder - 10%
Cloak - 5%

As with previous heirlooms, the item level of the heirloom will scale as the player level's up. This allows a fresh 110 to start with an item level 800 piece in certain slots.

There are four leveling zones in Legion, each with their own main questline and story. You can do these in any order you like, as they scale to your level.
is home to the remnants of the ancient night elves ravaged by the wrath of Queen Azshara. This accursed land is rife with many mysteries, and serves as refuge to what remains of the Blue Dragonflight.
is the location of the Grove of Cenarius, where the demigod first met Malfurion Stormrage and later began his training. This is also where the Emerald Nightmare’s influence bleeds into Azeroth, corrupting the land. You'll also find key places such as the tainted world tree Shaladrassil and the dungeon Black Rook Hold—an elven fortress that dates back to the War of the Ancients.
is the location of one of the largest mountains in Azeroth and a rugged and beautiful place. Here, three tribes of Highmountain tauren are locked in a bitter struggle against the savage drogbar that threaten their lands.
The land of
is one of harsh beauty, a reflection of the vrykul who dwell here. As you explore, you’ll learn more about vrykrul culture, including the origins of the mysterious Val’kyr and the terrifying Kvaldir. Along the way, you will contend with the vrykul God-King as he races to claim the Stormheim’s Pillar of Creation on behalf of his Legion masters. Ultimately, your quest will take you into the very heavens where the greatest champions of the vrykul await to test your worth.
Prioritize the main storyline quests which count towards that zone's achievements and take you to the dungeon. Bonus objectives also award a hefty amount of XP, so get them done if your questing naturally takes you to the area. Make sure to complete the dungeon quest to finish each zone, as it awards a hefty amount of experience and completes the storyline! You are able to start the next zone's quests if you're waiting for the Dungeon Finder to queue you into a group.
Treasures no longer award experience and rare spawns do not award higher-than-average experience. You'll also want to save looting the treasures until you're level 110 with high Artifact Knowledge so the items inside grant more Artifact Power.
In Legion, up to five players can tag the same mob at once, so you don't need to worry about partying up for a tag, or having someone snipe your mob.
Artifact and Class Hall Quests
Your specialization's artifact is very important as it greatly increases your player's power while you equip it. The first thing you do when you reach the Broken Shore is obtaining your first Artifact Weapon. We have videos and transcripts of each of the Artifact Weapon quests. These will generally take about 20-30 minutes and unlock your Class Hall. These award some experience depending on the length of the quest chain.
While leveling, portions of Class Campaign unlock at level 101 and 103. These will reward experience and you'll need to complete the
. Make sure to complete these when you can.
At level 101, you'll receive a quest in Dalaran to start the next step of the Class Campaign. You'll receive several early champions, the ability to hire lesser troops and unlock
At level 103, you'll start another quest chain from your Order Hall. This chain unlocks the ability to hire greater troops and unlock more champions.
At level 102, you'll be able to unlock additional artifact weapons for the other specializations of your class. You'll have to do their own quest chain, and also award experience. Unlocking these artifact weapons will allow you more flexibility if you need to change specializations for any reason.

Empowered Artifact Traits
Two Order Advancements are available for players under level 110. Tier 1 and Tier 2 upgrades will generally have one option that will improve the leveling experience.
One of the Tier 1 options for every class is to increase the chance for quest rewards to get a rare or epic Bonus Upgrade from non-repeatable quests.
One of the Tier 2 options will generally give a class specific buff that will be beneficial while on the Broken Isles. Some examples are:
for Demon Hunters or
Generally, players like to level as a DPS specialization as it tends to kill enemies the quickest. However, both tanks and healers can still deal quite a lot of damage -- and more than previous expansions. Tanks and healers have a lot of survivability allowing them to pull many enemies at the same time.
When entering a dungeon, players will receive
lasting 1 minute. This will allow them to change from leveling talents into dungeon talents. However, it will not allow you to change back for free so you'll have to use a
after the dungeon is complete. The first quest when you enter Dalaran will give you 5
which function exactly the same, but are Bind on Pickup.

We also have a series of Quick Start guides for every specialization, if you just want the basics:
You can pick up Legion Profession quests from the related shop in Broken Shores Dalaran. You do not need any previous skill in the Profession and can pick it up at Profession Level 1. Most Profession quest lines will start in Dalaran and take you to Azsuna. Profession quests can be done while completing the main story of that zone and can be in the same places as main story quests.
If you have no professions, Herbalism and Mining are good choices for bonus experience quests. They both be done without going out of the way of the main storyline since there are nodes everywhere! Sometimes, when you mine or pick and herb node, you will receive a quest which you can turn in at Dalaran. Some Herbalism quests require more, and aren't worth it, but the major are a quick pick up and turn in.
For more information, check out our
Legion Profession Guides.
The following items may help you out while leveling:
- Toy which reduces your falling speed for one minute. Acquired by looting various items around Highmountain.
which can be crafted or bought off the Auction House.
- Toy which can be used to propel yourself forwards. Earned by completing
- Mount from the Draenor Garrison which allows waterwalking.
- Food that will regenerate your health quickly when outside of combat.
- Guild Banners that increase the experience gain of nearby guild mates. Only works on killing monsters and not quest experience.
If you have extra gold, you can buy or craft one of the crafted legendaries. This is a massive stat boost and your character will be able to kill things much more efficiently.
You can equip these on a character that is level 101 or higher and can be used all the way to current content.
New 7.3 BoA Items
Bonus Artifact Power:
Outdoor combat assistance:
Similar to the Warlords of Draenor bodyguards, players can assign certain Champions as Combat Allies in Legion for assistance in outdoor zones.
There are many different types of Combat Ally buffs, but each class has at least one Champion that can be assigned as a Bodyguard. Bodyguards have a specific role (tank, damage dealer) who will use class related abilities to aid you on the Broken Shore.
For more information on Combat Allies, check out Tritox's
Class Hall Mission Guide.
Players who have completed
on any of their characters have unlocked flying on the Broken Shore for all their characters! This will greatly increase your leveling speed as flying mounts allow you to travel faster than ground mounts and over terrain.
To unlock flying you'll need to do the following:
Explore the 5 Legion questing zones (
Complete all major storylines in the Broken Isles (
Complete 100 different World Quests (
Complete your Class Order Campaign (
Earn Revered with the 6 Broken Isles factions (
The second and final part of Broken Isles Pathfinder can be completed in Patch 7.2:
. This requires:
Complete the first part (
Explore the Broken Shore (
Hit Revered with Armies of Legionfall (
Legion Assault award huge amounts of experience in 7.2, and with heirlooms in 7.2.5, they'll award even more experience. Each invasion will generally award 90% - 100% of a level.
Any character that has unlocked World Quests on a 110 character will see Legion Assaults on their level 98+ alts. Your alts will be able to complete all 6 Invasion World Quests. Each Invasion World Quests will reward a base experience value (~10% of a level) plus a bonus reward:
Order Hall Resources
Bonus Experience (~5% of a level)
There are two types of Legion assault World Quests: "WANTED" and regular. "WANTED" quests are much quicker and easier to finish while leveling because there is no limit to the number of people that can tag the monster. Regular quests can take much longer and can only be tagged by 5 people.
One of the downsides of leveling through Legion invasions is the lack of gear. In Patch 7.2, players who only leveled through invasions will reach level 110 with an item level between 700-720 and things become harder and harder to kill since you're not getting any new gear. In Patch 7.2.5, heirlooms will make this slightly easier.
Legion Assaults occur every 18.5 hours, so they may not be up when you are planning to level. Check the
Wowhead front page
to know when the next assault is. Make sure to filter for Legion information in the Today in WoW box.

Anybody know if upgrading
&bonus=0 to 110 is worth it? Above it says:
Touch of the Void is available from the WoD Garrison and does a large amount of damage to enemies in the area.
Really don't wanna spend 5k if the tendrils are still nerfed. I would be better off upgrading my main stat trinket or neck.
Thank you in advance for info (:
Low level Assault leveling appears to be gone in 7.2.5.
Cheers for the guide!
The Artifact and Class Hall section should mention that after the quests you do at your class hall at 101 (at least, after getting your followers), you can get the first Light's Heart quest from Khadgar in Dalaran.
ty to this guide i discovered that the two boughtheirloom fp items turned into 4 in your toy box.
Ok, so I thought I would add this. Here is some advice If you are simply interested in leveling without regard to story because you plan on skipping this expansion or whatever.
Create CLOTH heirlooms since all your characters can wear them and benefit from the XP bonuses.
also the Assaults mentioned above can be completed easily while wearing cloth.
I have done this now on 5 characters.
I just got a level 100 boost. Logged in and it put me at Origrammar. Leveled to 101 and now I can’t do LFG stuff cus I have no artifact weapon. I can’t find the start of the quest. Watched YouTube, read forums in here and asked on server. All the solutions people say are not there or the people I need to get quest from don’t have anything for me. Any help?
It would be nice maybe to reference the underwater mount
along with the water strider.

Was wondering if any zone was more preferably than others when you start leveling in legion, i have heard that Azsuna is best to start, but no real confirmations.. any thoughts?
(as of Patch 8.0.1) (THIS IS FOR LEVELING ALTS) Everyone already knows this who has a 110 and is working on an alt, and this guide even goes over it, but in my experience, the #1 BEST WAY to quickly get from level 100-110 in Legion is to do the random legion invasions. keeping track of the Wowhead's home page will show you when the next random invasion will start. If you are in game and look on the in game map, and see what looks like a green spiral covering a section of the continent with a timer under it. With all heirloom gear, and perhaps an XP buff like that from Darkmoon faire carousel, a lvl 100 could easily get through 1 and a half levels after finishing all of the given quests. *NEW* with the release of the Pre-Patch for bfa, war mode has been implemented, this does put you into 24/7 pvp until deactivated, but activating it will not only give you pvp talents in open world, but will also increase exp from things like world quests!
Wowhead has removed the Legion Assault notice from the main page. Info on assaults can now be found here:
