To remind everyone, a prismatic socket
the same as a "Sha-Touched Socket". The former is a gem socket with no colour requirement since it's additional and has no socket bonus to activate as a result, the latter is the only type of socket you can place your crystallized dread, terror or horror in.
This means including the
dread, horror and terror you will get an additional 710 of your primary stat in your Sha-Touched weapon of choice. The regular dread, horror and terror will result in an additional 660 of your primary stat.
The icon of this item originally comes from WarCraft III (2002) ladder matchmaking. The eye used to look left and right while you were waiting for an opponent to be assigned to you. Good times :)
I knew one way or another he'd keep an eye out.
are there only 2 of these on each server ?
or does the black prince have more than 2 eyes?
Since people seem to be confused by this, I will start by saying that I understand that it is a prismatic socket added by this object and I understand that normal gems will be going into said prismatic socket.
My question is... What about those classes that (can) dual-wield? I believe that I saw a Blue Post saying that you can DW with Sha Touched Weapons but only equip the legendary gem in one of them(legendary gem is unique-eqipped). This makes sense based on the stats when compared to two-handed weapon and the fact that the weapons aren't unique-equipped. But can I apply this to each weapon thus giving me an extra socket over someone wielding a two-hander?
Edit: I understand that it says unique on the tooltip. But that just means I can't have two of them in my bag.
I assume that it is consumed on use? If it isn't can I use it on multiple weapons? If it truly is unique as in I can only have one ever, then what happens when I get a new weapon? At that point I can buy a new +550/+500 legendary gem for 10k gold but I can't add a prismatic socket to it? Because I wasted this "unique" item on my lower tier Sha-Touched weapon? Basically my question is: can I just talk to the Wrathion again to purchase another one of these and then use it on my other weapon?
Also of note
: According to
is now the actual reward for the 5.1 legendary quest. Apparently items like
were in beta but did not make it into the game. I had assumed that you got both.
Edit2: According to
now purchase additional
for 2500g. Since the item is consumed on use and can be gotten again, I'm sure that those who DW can have two weapons in your bag that have the bonus prismatic socket. And since you can have two in your bag, you can have two equipped, as long as only one has the unique-equipped legendary gem.
Is this consumed after use or can we buy another one from wrathion like the gem?
If so, I don't want to mistake putting it in a lfr or normal weapon, when I can save it for my heroic version.
Edit : As of January 9th, 2013, you can purchase another one from Commander Oxheart for 2,500G.
Please be aware that the prismatic socket given by this item is a ONE TIME USE. This means once you use the Eye, it is gone from your bags. Wrathion does not give an option to obtain a new one like he does for the legendary gem.
This means that if you have only the LFR or Normal version of your Sha-Touched weapon, and you know that you will receive, or have the opportunity to receive, an upgraded version of the weapon, you would be wise to save your Eye of the Black Prince, otherwise you will end up wasting it!
EDIT: As of Tuesday, January 8th, the Eye of the Black Prince is now purchasable at the Valor Point vendor in Niuzao Temple for 2500g base price. That price will change depending on guild level or if a Goblin. The eye itself is still a one-time use item, but you can safely use them on any Sha-Touched weapon without worry of not getting a 2nd one. :)
As of the rolling restarts January 8th, 2013. You CAN buy this from the valor vendor,
, for 2,500g along with the legendary crystals for 10,000g. Even better to know, guild discounts work on this so you can get them for 2,250g and 9,000g respectively.
If you are a class that can Dual Wield Sha-Touched weapons, you
CAN buy an extra one from the valor vendor and have an extra socket on each weapon
. Works on live as of 9th January at least.
Edit: I do not understand why you would downvote something that is clearly correct. Even
As of the hotfix being implemented january the 8th:
in Townlong Steppes will now sell
for gold to players that have completed the appropriate quest lines.
To get the quest for this, you first complete the following quests:
The Prince's Pursuit
- gain Revered reputation with The Black Prince.
Test of Valor
- gain 6,000 Valor Points
A Change of Command
- kill Warlord Bloodhilt, the Horde commander at Domination Point (the Horde likely have a different objective).
The Lion Roars
- win battles in the Temple of Kotmogu and the Silvershard Mines.
You are able to use it on both of your weapons. If your a Duel Wielding class like
then you will have another gem for your weapon. :) But you must have completed the quest that gives the first gem, then spend 2,500g to get the other one. :)
Edit: That person no longer has the two fist weapons. So this character is irrelevant now, I apologize.
Useable on 5.2 raid weapons.
According to a blue post, the prismatic socket will be usable on the weapons dropping from Throne of Thunder in 5.2. The Sha-touched gems, however, will not be.
As of today 3-1-2013 Commander Oxheart sells the Eye of the Black Prince, submitted a screen shot.
Will we be able to use 2 in 5.2?
I just did Test Of Valor quest and unfortunately there's NO Eye Of Black Prince for sell at vendor :(. Anyone had the same issue? Or maybe there's no more Eye Of The Black Prince since 5.2? Please give quick answer, thanks in advance.
I have found the following.
fits it perfectly.
How every i couldn't find whether a
would fit into this.
I thought it wouldn't but i gave it a go. It Didn't.
I now have a
that cost me 7k g lol
Least i now know
5.2 one hundred percent confirmed important points are:
1. Useable on ToT weapons
2 Dual wield characters may equip both ToT weapons with the EotBP prismatic socket (same socket as in belt buckle or Blacksmithing glove/bracer)
3. With Bartering or Goblin racial (doesn't stack) it is 10% cheaper to buy your additional EoTBP from the Townlong Steppes VP vendor rather than the Black Prince's servant unless you are exalted with the Black Prince then the servant will sell them for 1750g.
^^ Save time just read this. (all you need to know)
Just a heads up, it's an instant application so once you click to apply, there's no going back.
I wonder if the Eye can be used on the i502 versons of the new Lightning Steel BS weapons.
With no Sha-touched weapons available at all outside of MSV, HoF and ToES (max iLevel 489 not inc HC), is there any real point in doing the interminable Black Prince quests? Even with a Sha gem the weapons are not BiS, so I hardly think the addition of an extra regular gem via a Prismatic Socket is going to make a huge difference. Or am i wrong?
Does anyone know if this will work the iLvl 502 reborn weapons made through Blacksmithing?
What actually designates a weapon as being an "Armament of the Thunder King"?
It is never actually stated in game, nor do items have an "Armament of the Thunder King" flavor text like the Sha-Touched Weapons did.
Just to clarify for those wondering (Even more so those that dual wield), today i had remembered this nifty little socket adder and bought two to test. Something to know, if youre a dual wield class with 2 weapons from ToT (Throne of Thunder) you can add this to both of them. So A: Yes they can be added to any weapon from Throne Apparently. (Havent tested LFR weapons) and B: You can dual wield this socket still. Hope this information helps anyone.
I spoke with a Community Manager earlier this week, and apparently in 5.3 (Maybe sooner?) This item will be able to be applied to the Blacksmithing "Reborn" weaponry. Hooray! Keep an eye on the next PTR notes, or the next hotfix.
From the 5.3 Patch Notes Update from 05/14/13:
Eye of the Black Prince can now be used to apply a prismatic socket on Reborn weapons.
So finally the Reborn Weapons are on par with the ToT LFR Weapons! :D
Edit: The only thing to see if this only counts for the 502 ilvl version of the weapons or all of them...
Note for Patch 5.3:
be used on the 516 ilvl weapons you can get out of heroic scenarios. I learned this hard way so that you don't have to!
Just a heads up in case anyone is curious and comes here first. You cannot add a socket with this to the new weapons that come from
Heroic Cache of Treasures
and its Bulging counterpart.
If anyone wanted to know, the cost of an Eye of the Black Prince is reduced to 1,750g when you get exalted with him.
I just wanted to point out that there are 2 vendors that currently sell replacement legendary rewards.
. I can't find it noted anywhere that Commander Oxheart is considerably more expensive.
Last time I purchased this item I only knew about this vendor and paid 2250g for it and the
for 9000g. Recently someone mentioned a vendor in the tavern with Wrathion and since it's so much closer to Shrine of Two Moons I thought I'd check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Blacktalon Quartermaster on the first floor and it was only 1750g (7000g for the gems)! Curious to see if the price had changed I went back to Commander Oxheart to check and it is still 2250g. I checked on two different toons. A hunter that is currently on
in the Legendary quest chain and a druid who is currently on
. Both of these toons are exalted rep with the Black Prince.
It's previously posted that if you have the items already and/or don't have appropriate rep that they won't show up in the vendor window. I'm not sure if the vendors are intended to be different or if it's a possible bug but my druid can see the Crystallized gems and the Eye of the Black Prince on both vendors. On my hunter however, Commander Oxheart only shows me the eye but the Blacktalon QM shows me both the Crystallized gems and the eye. Since my hunter has received her
through the quest reward, she can see those gems for sale as well at a cost of 5x
but only on the Blacktalon QM not on Commander Oxheart.
So to sum up it appears that the Blacktalon QM is where to buy your legendary replacements. He is cheaper (2000g for gems and 500g for the sockets), closer to Shrine, and appears to show all items available to you for repurchase regardless of any hidden restrictions.
sha touched weapons currently only go to item level 509, rendering everything but the cloak and fancy prismatic socket totally useless for those with 510-550 gear (current limits). WIth the new raid Seige of ogrimaar, unless new sha touched or thunderforged weapons are included, the prismatic sockets themselves will also become useless as they can only be added to sha touched or thunderforged weapons. In conclusion, as it stands all that we as players will walk away with by the end of this legendary quest line is a fancy new cloak and a bunch of gold and other resources wasted on items that as of current patch notes are obsolete. Unless blizzard adds more sha and thunderforged gear, what other conclusion can one come to?
Hopefully TOES 2.0 (whihc is what it is lol) will offer this new gear so we don't all have to waste our time with the black prince..
Otherwise, this has been nothing but a time waster
Because it isn't clear and I just spent 8k gold for it
the gem won't fit in a 502 weapon using this item on it
Don't spend 8k gold for test
thanks for no one even cleared it out
work on 5.4 weapons.
Source: "The legendary meta gem will still function, but Sha-touched gems and sockets will not be applicable to new 5.4 items."
This will not work with Siege of Orgrimmar raid weapons coming in 5.4:
Just a quick tip: If you are exalted with the Black Prince and need to get one of these for a new weapon, head to the Tavern in the Mist. One of the guards there sells there for a much reduced price over the Valor dealer. I spend 1k more than I needed to on my rogue. >_<
DOES NOT WORK
with weapons attained through Heroic Scenario.... Found it out the expensive way.
I can confirm that this does not work with 5.4 weapons.
These are NOT usable on the new SoO (Siege of Orgrimmar) weapons. Just attempted to use one and I failed miserably to the tune of 1750 gold. The more you know.
You need to put your weapon in ur bag and the right click on the item and then on your weapon and it will add a gem slot. It doesnt seem to work if your weapon is equipped.
Vendor trash these days alas. Stupid really, a legendary level 90 item should be of use to level 90 characters. They should have introduced some kind of compatibility with SoO weapons for this and the legendary weapon gems.
Just as an FYI for slow people like myself who haven't finished the Legendary quest line and get the Eye of the Black Prince. I have crafted the
2 handed sword and upgraded twice to ilevel 510 and WAS able to add the prismatic socket to this. It doesn't have to be from a raid and I can easily add a prismatic gem into it.
You have noticed, haven't you, that this will work on all Throne of Thunder weapons.. such as say, the ilev 535 from 10 and 25 man heroic, as well as the ilev 528 from 10 and 25 man regular?
Also if you check on askmrrobot, a weapon with this gem socket is rated higher than what you get from SoO raidfinder. I can't remember if it is better than SoO flex though, so you would have to goto askmrrobot for the "best in slot".
Remember, item level isn't THE "be all and end all" for gear and weapon choices. ANY item level tier piece, 502, 528 is BETTER than any 535 timeless armor item.
Use: Add a prismatic socket to a
Sha-Touched weapon or Armament of the Thunder King
Don't know why this was down rated. LOOK AT THE TOOL TIP!
And what in the name of warcraft does timeless gear have to do with "sha-touched" or ToT weapons? Since there are no weapon drops in timeless isle, that gem actually does make the ToT weapon BiS until you get a drop from SoO.
Well, this is a bummer for those of us coming late to the game (or coming back late to the game). I'm one sigil away from the gem part and find out these can't be used on ToT or SoO weapons, which I already have. So it's a perk that is only a perk for a limited ilvl window. Sad, because the legendary quest line is not exactly a trivial one.
Since these can be used on ToT weapons they're really good for CM with the extra socket.
This was noted in one of the responses to an existing comment, but I believe it is worthy of its own comment:
This will work on Reborn weapons created by Blacksmithing.
I just applied mine to my
. So, it appears the criterion might most accurately be a base ilvl of 502 for the weapon, not specifically the weapon's source.
My question is, if you have a sha-touched item with a socket, will this turn the socket into a meta socket or add a meta socket, so you can use your quest gem and a meta gem? I am curious for proving grounds. I have
Despite what the notice says, the item is still available and can be purchased from the vendors in the "Sold by" tab.
I was only able to get one of these before he moved in with his auntie to a place called Bell Air.
This item is still available for purchase by the "Blacktalon Quartermaster" for 2,000g in the Tarvern of the Mists, as of November 18, 2015.
This item is still obtainable by characters who completed the requirements back in MoP.
in Townlong Steppes for 2,500g.
I couldn't find any confirmation anywhere, at least soon enough. These do not work on shields. If anyone is looking to buff up some old gear for Timewalks, this only works on weapons. I found the "armament" part slightly cryptic and wondered why it didn't just say weapon if it meant weapon and now I threw out a chunk of gold. You can't refund this either for some reason.
