Currently, this is a small tallstrider, the size of
but with the color scheme of
. It is slated to be available from
, the Darkmoon pets vendor for 90 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
I have an odd obsession with anything in WoW that resembles a plainstrider, so I can't wait to add this little guy to my collection. I currently have the Mulgore Hatchling (named Dino), the Swift Forest Strider, the Swift Springstrider, and the Swift Lovebird mounts.
Edit: Got the Darkmoon Hatchling last month as well. So tiny. 0:
Edit: two hotfixes are now implemented. First one made all newly-learned Darkmoon Hatchlings rare. Second one, already in effect, also converted the hatchlings previously learned to Rare quality. All Darkmoon Hatchlings, including those added to journal prior to hotfix, are now rare.
Outdated: Unlike the other 6 pets bought with 90 Darkmoon Prize Tickets (Balloon, Cub, Monkey, Tonk, Turtle, Zeppelin), which are all rare quality, this one is Uncommon when learned. Can be fixed with battle-stone, of course, but it might be good to know before buying it is not of the same quality as other 6 pets.

Animations are the standard Strider animations - scratches itselfs, squawks, chirps when clicked.
Edit - after the hotfix, it is now learned as a Rare, although if you had it caged in your bags at the time the hotfix was implemented, it didn't get upgraded from Uncommon. You will still need to use a stone to upgrade a caged Uncommon to Rare however, it is important to note that the Uncommon's are now rarer than the Rare's :)
Rare details at level 1 are:
The previously bought Darkmoon Hatchings which were uncommon have now been hotfixed (13 Dec 2012) to rare quality so save your battle-stones for other pets.
This is actually a critter pet, not a flying one (as I had assumed since it's a bird).
I'll say it since no one has yet...but this pet is trade-able and can be sold on the AH, unlike the other purchasable companions bought with DMF tickets. Perhaps Blizzard's response to those who have bought everything they can in way of mounts, companions and replica gear and now have a surplus of DMF tickets horded. I would have liked to see my Darkmoon Prizes return instead (
If you're like me, and like having matching pets, companions, and mounts - there is a tamable mob that has this skin. There are a few rare ones, but the one that is always up is
, found in outland in Terrokar forrest.
As there seem to be two areas for comments on the one pet I am going to copy/paste the below info as this is one tough and rare pet making the trio of 'must have' easy to obtain Darkmoon Battle Pets
I would have totally missed it had it not been for the comments below. (trio

This pet is quite special, in that is a Critter with the ability to deal considerable Flying damage. This sets it as a hard counter to Aquatic with Elemental abilities - which are also a very narrow demographic. Penguins, for the most part!
So, if someone is annoying you with Penguins (or Doopy is being particularly annoying) this little guy is the guy.
Couldn't find any information on this, but it may also drop from
