After reviewing the data (discounting the ones with very low data reported). It appears the drop rate is
10% + 1% x ( Mob level - 85)
In other words
85 - 10%
86 - 11%
87 - 12%
88 - 13%
89 - 14%
90 - 15%
I have had pretty decent luck with the Pearly Tortoise in the starting area. About 1 in 10 probably drop it...but it gets taken down relatively quickly.
If we assume that all creatures can drop these, the drop rate is no where near 10% for lvl 85 creatures. Almost two levels worth of grinding through Jade Forest has netted a grand total of ten motes for me.
10 BoP Motes of Harmony combine to make one BoP Spirit of Harmony.
On 9/18/2012 Ghostcrawler said they will probably make Spirits of Harmony Bind on Account "eventually".
This doesn't appear to be well known, so upvotes appreciated.
For a dual-gatherer, it's a choice between cashing it in for something lower-value but immediately useful, vs. saving them for the probable/eventual day the above comes true (when your crafters may not need them anymore).
Wowhead lists it as 9 Motes on the "Reagent For" tab. This is due to how the combine spell is coded. One mote consumes the other 9 to produce the Spirit of Harmony, and then a followup action consumes the 10th.
Spent 45 minutes grinding these

The drop rate shown here is totally wrong. Shift the decimal point over to the left and it may be more accurate from what I've seen and others have posted on the forums. So 6% becomes 0.6%, which is about the drop rate I've seen.
Motes of Harmony
Use: Combine ten of these to make Spirits of Harmony.
Spirits of Harmony are used in crafting recipes. They are most similar to Primals from the Burning Crusade. Motes can be combined into spirits, but spirits cannot be broken into motes.
Motes of Harmony are a random, Bind on Pickup drop that can literally drop from any mob in Pandaria. Odd that you gather pieces of the spirit of Harmony from slaughtering half the countryside.
Hope no one on my server reads this but I found a great place to farm these the old fashion way. Kunzen village (around 33,26 in the valley of the four winds) has had a rather high drop rate for me so far. Killed between 10-20 mobs and got 4 motes...
I might have just been lucky...but these are level 90 mobs and some of them only have 55k hp. 1 shottable
Why in God's name did they go back to the Motes -> Primal system again? It was stupid in TBC, it was stupid in Wrath, they finally ditched it in Cata. And now it's back. Why do Blizzard insist on making us jump through these hoops, this thing stacks to 200 anyway. But no no no, we want YOU to turn 10 of them into something that stacks to 20 and use that to make stuff.
The best place I've found to farm is Howlingwind Cavern in Kun-Lai Summit. The entrance is at (59,52), just north of One Keg. There are little white circles on the ground. If you walk over them or AoE them, you will pull approximately 10-15 sprites. They die fairly easily. I get a Mote of Harmony every 4 or 5 pulls (takes about 5 minutes). There is also a ton of ore in this cave.
The Shamans in Kun Lai have a decent drop rate. The good thing is after you kill a shaman you get a 25% damage buff (stackable 5 times for 30 seconds). This makes mob farming much easier (Fs leveled here to 90 in 4 hours and 30 mins). So if the formula above is correct for mobs that are 88 lvl you have a 13% droprate. You can kill mobs at around 3 per minute so that's 180 mobs an hour which roughly translates into ~20 motes ?
I just dinged 89 and
already looted 62-63 motes
which I converted for the imperial silk but if you guys want to get the contender pvp set (1 mote for each recipe) I recommend you go farm these bad boys. So either run with a 125% dmg buff or if you are high level farm some 85 packs but cloth is never useless.
Mote of Harmony's Wowhead item page is now forever immortalized (or satirized, take your pick).
(site: The Daily Blink)
very good farm spot guide:
You have to kill these npc's, which are located in the Valley Of Eternal Blossoms in the Guo-Lai-Halls:
Only 393,941 health! They die very fast
NPC: Stone Guardian - NPC - World of Warcraft
In the screenshot you can see two of them sitting next to some kind of altar. If you kill them, they are respawning INSTANT, which means no downtime at all. You can farm both mobs solo or in a group of two people, maybe you even can get there without being level 90 to farm additional xp. I recommend you farming this spot only with DD specc and heroic gear, because you will be able to kill this mobs way faster this way! This gives you even more profit because of instant respawn and no downtime.
I got there 2x Skyshard - Item - World of Warcraft in only 1 hour of farming. You can use 10 of them to create a Sky Crystal - Item - World of Warcraft to kill Alani - NPC - World of Warcraft , which is flying around in the Valley Of Eternal Blossoms, which furthermore dropps himself as a mount ( Reins of the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent - Item - World of Warcraft )
U can sell these by grouping up whit a possible buyer and let him roll for this item. The mount will sell for a extremely high price, because of the very low drop chance of the Skyshards! By using this farm spot u can get them very fast.
Also they do drop Ancient Guo-Lai Cache Key - Item - World of Warcraft , with these keys you can unlock the Ancient Guo-Lai Cache - Object - World of Warcraft which gives you gold and reputation items for the Golden Lotus faction. You will find this treasure chests by dying in front of the gates and then walking through them as a ghost
They also drop Mote of Harmony - Item - World of Warcraft , which you can use for your professions. I use them for Riddle of Steel - Spell - World of Warcraft , which gives me a high gold income by selling Living Steel - Item - World of Warcraft and their proccs with the transmutation specialization.
You can trade them also for profession items at Danky - NPC - World of Warcraft ! 3 Golden Lotus - Item - 3*300g=900g on my server) for 1 Spirit of Harmony
Grey stuff which sells for 5 gold per item and green items are also in the loot table.
WoW Head does also mention:
" After killing this NPC you will gain:
10 reputation with The Black Prince (stops at Honored) "
No freaking way the drop rate is 10%.
I took the slow route dual boxing 2 characters from 85 to almost 87 over the past week walking everywhere and mining / herb picking and getting into tons upon tons of fights with mobs (its like every node has a personal guardian);.
I came away with about 1,000 ghost iron, little over half that in tea leaves and poppy and a sum total of 14 motes of harmony.
i was wondering if anyone has tried using a potion of luck when killing mobs?
im tempted but 400g per lotus makes it kinda of blah atm
Hoping this helps someone else like it did me.
The Sra'vess Island just west of the Niuzao temple island, there are a over abundance of Mantrid.
They seem ot share the same standard 15% level 90 mote drop rate, however, they seem pretty easy to kill (for my frost dk) and there are tons of them, packed in close together (not too close that you'll chain pull, but u can if wanted). and they have really fast (under 2mins) respawn timers.
They also give Black Prince reputation. Non-elites: 11 reputation; Elites: 17 reputation
Before modifiers of course.
Me(frost DK), a Brewmaster Monk, and a Demo Warlock, were able to powerhouse through pulls of 20+(with cd's) mobs at a time, with no more then 60sec between pulls, and in just over an hour we farmed more then 6k(friendly to honored) and about 5 SPIRITS of harmony each (Thats 50 motes folks).
Reason I say more then, is we kept farming to cap off out current mote stacks, even after we hit honored.
Beware, *They do NOT give Black Prince reputation past Honored!*
they also come from plundered chests. just super rare
As a blood DK, I found pulling the 9 mob sets in the scar, the Horrid March, in the Dread Wastes to be the fastest and easiest. There is a general and 8 soldiers in each set. I seem to get one or two motes per pull. Averaging 4-5 Spirits per hour. No one is questing on them and they are easy to kill.
Also, if you get the Angel of Death buff from the Klaxxi, a Klaxxi will descend and AoE the mobs every minute. With roiling blood, Dancing Rune Weapon, and the Angel of Death I get to about 150-160k dps and mobs drop really fast. It is easier to farm here where that buff drops the mobs for you. I also suggest getting the painkiller buff from the Klaxxi (the blue buff). If you do get overwhelmed it will encase you in amber and heal you nearly full.
Just simply kill a group, and move to the next one. They are located on the east ends of the horseshoe shaped scar. They respawn by the time you finish killing all the sets. There are about 6 tight little groups to farm. They are the Ik'thik Slayer and Warriors. They also drop a lot of Dread Amber shards which are an infinitely repeatable reputation quest for the Klaxxi.
I've found farming up on the Skyrange of Valley of Four Winds to be pretty good.
Where the daily Tillers quests take you to the Kunzen village there are little packs of
that throw stones. There are around 5 to a pack and spawn in pockets a little away from other mobs so if you do it properly you can fly in, AOE them down quite quickly as they have smaller health pools than the rest, loot and then move on.
If doing this alone when its quite the respawns can be a little slower but if you do it when its busy the respawns are crazy and the motes drop quite regularly.
Need to up the drop rate just a tad on these....
I haven't seen anyone mention that these can be placed in specialty bags like
Which is interesting considering it's not an herb, enchanting materials, leather, scribe mats ect.
Farmed mote of harmony for 1 hour with Potion of Luck in cave near One keg in Kun Lai Summit (as half rare/half green gear retri pala) and i get this:
16x Mote of Harmony, 13x green items, 8x grey items, 67x Windwool Cloth, 27x Dried Peaches, 20x Roasted Barley Tea, 177g
and 14 Plundered Treasure. After opening them i get additional:
74x Windwool Cloth, 14x White Trillium Ore, 14x Ghost Iron Ore, 254g
The Marrow Chamber in Dread Wastes is a place to 'farm' these motes.
The entrance to the marrow chamber is at 47.2, 16.8 in Dread Wastes.
The room is crawling with mantids and the yellow marrow beams kill the npc's very quickly. Taunt, or attack these guys from the opposite side of a beam of marrow or otherwise kite them into the beams for very quick kills. Keep going in a circular motion around the room killing and looting. Very quick way to grab a maximum number of motes per hour.
Today, 09/10/12, i went to all the good farming spots and the drop chance was ridiculously low comparing to the days before that date and the spawn rate of the moobs seemed also increased. In my opinion the drop chance alongside with the spawn rate has been reduced with a hotfix. Please excuse me from any grammar english mistakes, it's my second language.
Would be nice if these weren't BoP or even BoA... I'm trying to craft a full set of gear for my Death Knight to start pandaria with. Bought Ghost Iron Ore off the AH, but I can't make the weapons as they require Spirit of Harmony, which - like the motes - can't be sold on the AH.
To me, I find the Hozen Rockflingers at Kunzen Village in Valley of the Four Winds the best for me, as a level 90 feral druid. One Thrash and a Swipe and they're done. They are always in groups of 4-5, level 90 (Which means the best drop rate), and extremely easy to kill if you have some AoE's. Just watch out for the patrolling elites!
Edit - It seems they've caught on.
Patch 5.0.5 Hotfixes - Nov 12
"Kunzen Rockflingers no longer have a chance to drop Motes of Harmony."
I think I found the best place to farm this.
near the Taver in the Mists there is a burrow full of Hatescale mobs that drop them more then in any area I've found so far. The place is also riddled with Ghost ore mining nodes, I found myself spending a few hours filling a 32 slot mining sack and getting 60% a level of xp. In addition the Mobs dropped
which is great since my priest now has a good amount of the stuff.
Irony is that in the weeks I've been farming this spot I have gathered a good amount of these. And cant use them.
My Pally does mining and enchanting. :-P
So after much deliberation over where to farm between my shaman buddy and I we finally found a good spot. In the valley of fourwinds around the very northwestern part there is a hozen camp where one of the Tiller dailies takes place. Around this area are groups of 4-6 low HP mobs that have a pretty solid drop chance. I'm not a numbers guy but after close to six hours of farming we made out of there with 20 spirits of harmony (200 motes). They seem to drop 1-3 motes per group with some dry spells lasting 5-10 minutes. We put the loot on free-for-all and just had the LW pick up the loot.
Side Note: also found
and some BoE blues. All in all not a bad day.
Edit: Shauolin, the poster above me already discovered this 5 days ago and shared. Fail on my part.
A really good place to farm motes of harmony is just east of the pools of purity in vale of the four winds. The turtles there ~87 have very little health and are easily killed in massive pulls by a 90. They re-spawn extremely fast, and you can also skin them if you've got skinning.
I could be wrong, but the Ancient Mogu Spirits in Tu Shen Burial Ground in Valley of Eternal Blossoms seem to have a slightly higher drop rate for the motes than other mobs.
If you haven't started the quest chain at Zhu's Watch, during the quest
there are several insanely fast-spawning level 86 mobs in town for the quest with only 92k health. They are easy to kill, hit like a feather, and unlike many phased quest mobs appear to have a standard loot table.
If you are just beginning your adventures into Pandaria's crafting and require Harmony for your recipes, this is an
easy way to farm them.
also commonly drops
, and somewhat less commonly drop
. Not an amazing income source, but it`s a nice chunk of gold after you've finished farming.
I personally farmed up enough Harmony to craft my
, and my
just under two hours
. That is my PERSONAL experience, killing the Essence of Despair as fast as I could on my Arc Mage. You may have a different experience depending on your class and killing power.
Northwestern part of Valley of the Four Winds where Hozen monkeys are is my favourite. In 2 days of light farming (3hours max per day) I've got around 16-22 Spirits of Harmony. As well in those 2 days 2 epics dropped (tank shield and cloth chest), many blues greens, looted so many dark soil. I've been using
and probably got like 2-4k golds just from greens and the trinket. Good thing is that 2 rares are from both sides of farming spot so you can go check on them occasionally for these useful drops
Crystal of Insanity
Helpful Wikky's Whistle
. Anyway as protection paladin I've managed to stack 2 camps at once (10-15 mobs) and kill with use of barrel, quite simple. I encourage you everyone try that place.
Ookin Shaman in Summit have an amazing drop rate of all the areas I have been to. I just killed 5 in about 5 minutes (took me awhile to find where they spawn in higher numbers than 1 lol), dropped 4 motes.
The extremely popular "turtle" spot on the eastern side of the Pools of Purity in Valley of the Four Winds has been hot-fixed in a fashion. The turtle re-spawn rate has been increased. This may still be a viable farming spot if you're one of the only people around, however.
I did some personal testing of a couple other reported places for mote farming, these are my results:
Kunzen Village - Valley of the Four Winds:
1 Hour: 11 motes of harmony
Kapari'ik + Kapari Vor (Ikthik Warriors) - Dread Wastes
1 Hour: 17 motes of harmony
Cave North of One Keg (little sprites) - Kunlai Summit
1 Hour: I couldn't manage to ever tag any after a whole hour of fighting for spawn tags, the place was too crowded with questers and about a dozen other 90s testing the area for motes.
Would love to know if anyone has discovered an area comparable to the old "turtle" area because after tasting that, these other places are just cheap off-brand substitutes at best. I will continue down the list on these forums to test out other mote farming areas.
In an effort to maximize efficiency of time during
farming, I have been thinking. Each class may have different results due to the proximity of mobs and the class's/spec's AOE farm capability.
I did a search of
but was unable to find any addons which do what I'm looking for. I'm looking for an addon which tracks time of farming, mobs being farmed, location of farm, and the loot which was farmed during those things. Of course more information would be great such as tracking of class/spec used, etc.
Does anyone know of anything like this?
well, no more farming motes of harmony during the AC jade temple dailies.
that was a real dissapointment.
it also feels like over all the drop rate was reduced by a couple %
hope blizzard realizes that if you make people farm/do dailies all day, they will just reach burnout that much faster.
I found motes of harmony in sealed crates while leveling my fishing skill. I have no clue about drop chance but from 10 crates i got 2 motes in about 2 hours of fishing.
Ruins of Dojan in Karasarang Wilderness had a great drop rate on mote of harmony got 20 off the Dojani there in less than and hour. I was on the quests "The Dejani Threat" "Herbal Remedies" and "The Mogu Agenda" at the time...
While on the Nesingwary quests hunting the Gorge Stalkers and Dustback Mushan west of the Nesingwary camp in valley of the four winds I had a decent drop rate. I found 4 in about 20 mins.
go to sra'vess in townlong steppes, any elite will do and they have a 25% chance on droping motes.
i sugjest you keep you'r eye out for vessgaurd's since they are the easiest to kill. kill the little ones first especialy if it are regenerators or drones since they can be a pain.
note: these mobs also give rep to the black prince
This do not drop in non-heroic Scholomance. Just completed a full clear on my priest/tailor and got 0.
Me and my friend found an easy way of farming
in the Dread Wastes.
IF you are a tank, you can go and pick up one of the "enhancements" from Klaxxi'Vess called
Absorbed, blocked, dodged, missed, parried, redirected, reflected, and resisted attacks against the bearer cause Bladeturning. Once reaching 10 stacks it will triggers a 3 second stun + causing roughly 70k damage.
If pulling 15-20 mobs this will procs all the time, i can imagine it procs even quicker for a warrior or paladin since they have block.
Head out to the island Zan'Vess in the south west corner of Dread Wastes.
And then just start mass pulling as many as you can handle, as a Blood DK i can easily pull 20ish mobs without dying.
Don't know how good monks, warriors or druid tanks are, but prot paladin works as well.
Unfortunately there is also dailies on this island if you have bad luck and farming won't be possible on a high pop realm(like mine).
Edit: This is also a very good place to farm mining as well! and don't forget
Potion of Luck
Is Blizz still thinking of making these items account bound? Anyone know?
When you are Revered with
you are able to buy
This seed will grow into a
Mote of Harmony
. At Exalted you will have 16 farm slots and be able to farm 16 motes per day.
KLAXXI ENHANCEMENT : RAINING BLOOD
KLAXXI AUGMENTATION : BATTLE HYMN
*also used potion of luck because after testing it the first time i got one BOE epic and one BOE blue (450ilvl)
CLASS/SPEC : MONK BREWMASTER
METHOD : starting at the horrid march (68,49) by flying into the two ithyk slayers beside the fearbringer, landing at fearbringer's feet and grabbing the two kuchong behind him as well as the warrior pack behind them. continuing west along the scar until i hit a roaming clutch-keeper, then flying north to destroy the nicely grouped packs of warriors at the top of the "horseshoe" that is the scar. return after clearing north to the gate with the first pull and repeat.
YIELD : 18 motes/hr depending on a grind circuit and timing that returned me to the gate as the initial pull was respawning (i watched them pop back up each time)
also, has anyone noticed that the klaxxi buff names are all famous metal songs/albums/references?
well unless i was the world's unluckiest person for 20 minutes kunzen rockflingers in valley dont drop these anymore, very disappointing, it appears blizz wants to get rid of all the good ways to grind this
I just killed ~1300
but only dropped 69 motes.
The indicated droprate for those mobs is between 8 for the kypari crawler, and 14% for the zan'thik impaler/manipulator that I killed in majority, but I got only 5%.
I'm pretty sure some days ago it was the 14% drop rate, so eithier I'm the most unluck guy in the world (but it's statistically impossible with a sample size this big), or blizzard nerfed the drop rate in dread waste by something like 50%.
Anyone else noticed this too ?
I'm the unluckiest guy in the world. my friend got 38 of these while leveling 85-90, I got 3...
I believe we're looking at a dynamic drop rate. The more you kill a thing, the less that thing drops Mote of Harmony. This is why it looked like higher-level mobs dropped them more; at first, it was a matter of the higher-level ones being killed less.
They would do this to prevent excessive no-brainer, intensive farming.
You get motes of harmony by killing things
I've found that the mobs in Fire Camp Osul in Townlong Steppes drop a ridiculous amount of motes. When doing the Shado-pan daylies you can grab a helper (the best of which imo is the tank for larger groups) for farming.
Wow.. if u r completely smashed up with local panda alcohol drink the rate gose significantly up of drop mote of harmony... just kidding... however probably good way hot to grind up harmony is on your local farm in Valley of the Four Winds (need to be revered with The Tillers) :)
Ive compared the Howlingwind Cavern with the Zul`s Watch quest a bit, and each has its benefits. Howlingwind seems to have about the same mote drop rate as Zul`s, drops similar greens, but also drops a great amount of windwool cloth (plus herbs and ore if you are a gatherer). On the other hand, Zul`s has an infinite amount of easier mobs that spawn almost immediately, and you wont be bothered with since you are doing an instanced quest.
If you can actually find Howlingwind uncamped, it has the edge in my opinion, but Zul`s is a great alternative when the cave is crowded. I use these two as my primary mote farming spots.
drop rate is terrible on these. Lots of people farming. Getting enough motes to make crafted items turns wow into a job. Please increase drop rate Blizz.
If you need to farm
Mote of Harmony
(instead of grow and harvest them on your farm using
) I found a good spot to be in
just northwest of Angler's Wharf where the
Riverblade Raiders and Thieves
are. You can get a daily quest from Angler's Wharf to kill these guys also. What makes it a good spot is that most of the Raiders are already fighting with friendly Expedition Defenders in the area, so a lot of them are at low health, AND since it's a daily the spawn rate is very high for these guys. They also drop a good amount of
, and the odd Scallion or Witchberry (though barely at all).
Read my comment on this page, this is probably the best spot to farm.
Have the droprate been stealth-buffed in 5.1? Getting tons now.
Motes of harmony are grown by planting Songbell Seeds
Would be kinda nice to see them BOA. Understand that this could cause programming issues etc but as I like many of you, I play multiple characters. The distribution across my chars is uneven as they drop as the weirdest times and being able to share them where I want them would be super. In any case, this subject is likely to be a hot one for at least the next year.
I find those tricksters in mistfall village a better place to farm. You pull ~30 of them and aoe them down while they respawn. I think I farmed almost 200 motes in 5hours
Tried to reply to siakitty's post, for some reason it wont let me. Spot on place to get Mote's and it certainly hasn't been nerfed from what I can see. I just went there and within around 30-40 minutes I got 25 or so Motes and around 10 green items. Easy to kill them too, 95k health, can basically pull every single one of them (Though I am level 90, but I'd expect you shouldn't find it too hard even as a lower level person). Luckily I hadn't done the quest before. You need to do about 6 quests before you get this quest too.
After collecting 25 or so Mote's, I hearthstoned back to Org without completing the task. I'm guessing I can return there at any time and pick up where I left off. By far the best place I'd say. The kills are easy, you're in no danger of dying and they respawn almost instantly.
And take note, I almost gave up after around 7-8 minutes because no Mote's had dropped and I began to think this was wrong...then one dropped and from there on a tonne started dropping...2's and 3's here and there and they quickly begin to stack up. Spend an hour here and you should easily have 30 motes.
I'm using these motes to turn them into Spirit Of Harmony. I do Alchemy, so couple that with three Trillium Bar and I can make a Living Steel WITHOUT any cooldown. Looking at a 300g profit for one bar. So basically, 40 mins to an hour of farming get's me 300g, plus a massive amount of green items that can either be sold in AH or even make about 100g from shop keepers etc...so I'm then looking at a 400g profit without really doing a great deal of work. Do this for a few weeks and it quickly begins to total up.
It is possible to get motes on low level characters. The
found in Shipwreck Debris pools on Darkmoon Island during Darkmoon Fair drop
at about an 8% drop rate.
My level 80 scribe started fishing for 50
at level 1 fishing. It took several hours. I ended up at 311 fishing. I was able to fish crates from my first cast at level 1 fishing and Darkmoon Faire is accessible to level 1s thus low level character and bank alts could fish these up. However, I am fairly certain every recipe that uses the
requires a level 80 to reach the sufficient profession level.
can be used as currency so if you have some reason to fish these up below level 80 then it is possible.
To give an idea of how long this will take for planning purposes; I earned the 1000 fish achievement and I fished approximately 750 Shipwreck Debris pools. Moving between the pools significantly increases the time it takes so don't just mentally calculate how long 311 fishing or 1000 casts would take. I recommend you stock up on
during the 3 weeks off time leading up to the Darkmoon Faire.
Edit: Fishing requires level 5 so level 5+ characters can fish these up.
hi there. I was questing to reach level 90 doing
for shado-pan and i noticed the
drops off them turtles 1x
If you have a lowbie toon (I was 87) that you need these for to make things such as
(just my examples) which are BoA items, I found to get these there are 2 surefire ways as of MoP WoW 5.1 to get these.
Grind Method for lvl 85+
They drop like 'crazy' from the cranes north of Halfhill. If you don't mind the grind you get get about one spirit (10 motes) every hour or so if the laws of probability are on your side.
PVP Method for Alliance
Requires level 87 to get the quests to open this method. Horde might be able to use the wall method but they have a different Honor QM named
wich is north of the Shadow-Pan Fallback
Do the Kun-Lai
that seems to start in the flight point hub at West Wind Rest that leads to the flight point
in the SSW corner of Kun-Lai.
From the Shadow-Pan Fallback walk along the top of the wall south.
There will be one corner/gate with a closed door blocking you, walk to the right of it along the ledge then drop down to the next wall section.
Keep heading south towards the Honor QM
at The Lion's Redoubt which is on top of the wall in The Dread Wastes.
All of the above PVP section stuff can be skipped if you bribe a guildy or someone with a flying passenger carrying mount to fly you to the Honor Vendor. Just be careful of phased areas as you will be booted off the mount.
The Honor Vendor sells for 400 Honor.
I am sure there may be other ways. Please up-vote if this helped and comment if you have any other methods.
EDIT: It is much easier, faster, and better if you keep your honor points and just mob grind. I like the cranes because there is plenty enough around where if nobody else is grinding them you can just keep going and going. Even at 90 I use this spot to fill in extra motes quickly to make a
A few good places I have found to farm these:
Quest mobs in general tend to be the best sources. Blizz has caught onto some of the more popular spots and nerfed them so I'm not telling my #1 spot which is still ridiculous for gaining a lot of these, a lot of greens and a lot of cloth in a hurry. But some other good quest spots I've seen which tend to be good for these include...
Just about anywhere there are sprites. The sprites often come in threes or can at least be pulled in mass. Many are tied to quests so they will respawn quicker than regular mobs. Examples of places with sprites would be the cave NW of the temple of the tiger. There's another cave with lower level ones south of the temple which includes a rare spawn chest in the back, some areas of northern Jade forest, and many quest areas in the Vale of Eternal Blossums although these tend to be the hardest to burn quickly. Sprites also tend to make for good farms because they will drop various food items depending on which ones you farm.
For tailors especially:
The various quest based lizard dudes (I forget the mob name) but you find some in Vale of Eternal blossoms on some days with the Golden Lotus dailies as well as off the coast or in the caves on the coast of Jade Forest with the Cloud Serpent dailies. I just stumbled on these the other day although I'd already been out there some farming the turtles on my skinner.
Quest related hozen. There are a couple of areas in Jade forest especially where groups of hozen are tied to quests. These tend to be good especially for tailors as, again they will spawn quickly if quest related and die quickly while dropping greens and cloth.
Turtles tend to be the best. There's the small pond near the entrance north in the Valley of the four winds that is good for low level turtles, then there's the aforementioned islands off the coast of jade forest for higher level ones. There are also some nice mid-level turtles around the pond in SW valley of the winds tied to the Nesingwary quests with lots of other skinnables round about that you can pick up while waiting on more turtle spawns.
Another good spot, although farming is a bit slower due to the level of the mobs is the small pond in SE Dread Wastes. You can farm turtles, striders and gators there and it's worth doing if you need klaxxi rep because they will also occasionally drop the shards for the repeatable rep quest.
I have as of yet to try various places with the mantid, but I am curious to see how the ones around the August Celestials quests in Townlong do for drops. Again, quest tied mobs and if you need to, you can fall back to the pandaren guards or the pat of the big yak to help burn them down quickly.
Many of the places listed in comments on here as being good places to farm Mote of Harmony are either outdated (been nerfed) or simply are just crap for level 85s.
I managed to find an amazing place as of Feb 2013 for my 85 frost Mage to farm Mote of Harmony.
Just south of Zhu's Watch in Krasarang Wilds there is a tiny bit of Sha touched earth with some
. They respawn faster than I can kill them. They give the best yield I have come across for level 86 mobs. Lets say less than 10 min waiting for lfg to pop and I got 3 Motes of Harmony. I have returned several times to this location and got the same results.
I found the island in the very south of Krasarang Wilds to be the best farming spot for those.
The island is called
, it's the island where
drops for the quest
. There are tons of
which seem to have a decent drop rate for
. You can pull 10-20 of them together, I never had problems to kill those amounts as a iLvl 464 survival hunter.
There are to main spots to pull those hozen:
1. The pit at the western part of the island. Two hozen are batteling inside while 15-18 hozen are watching. You can easily pull them together and AoE them down.
2. From the pit, go to the west and you'll find another pack of hozen sitting in a circle. Just as with the first spot, pull them together and AoE them down.
While you are waiting for those two packs to respawn, just kill the other packs of 3-5 hozen or do a bg/heroic.
Also, there's a chance for a rare spawn at the far eastern edge of the island. It's
. He drops nothing special, except of
which you may be able to sell for a few hundred gold. There also is a chance for
for the achievement
to spawn. It contains 5x
Have fun farming :)
I've had some success farming the Mushan Herds around the Underbough in Townlong Steppes. I'm still grinding for ribs for ironpaw tokens so I'm kind of killing two birds w/ one stone. I think I got 15-16motes in the ~hour I was farming up 50 ribs...
On farming Motes of Harmony, I'd like to add the following:
Consider farming 85-88 mobs. The drop rates are lower
you'll kill the mobs faster too. For instance, if you can kill a given mob with half the drop rate twice as fast, then the drop rate per period of time is effectively the same. Now, this is mostly theorycrafting, but interestingly I do seem to get motes more often by killing lower-level mobs. I could be wrong and I'll have to test it more, but at least it's worth noting. 85 mobs might be too low, but 87-88 mobs seem to be in that "sweet spot" between lower drop rate and faster killing.
If anyone can confirm or dismiss this, then please do. Also, with enough ilvl (maybe 500+) killing normal 90s is pretty fast anyways, upon which my tip may not be as viable. It definitely depends on your levels, not to mention if you're not even at 90 yet yourself.
Regardless, I've seen a lot of players who neglect
as a resource. This is one of the secrets of successful farming and AH trading - how much time you spend doing it, and not just how much you get out of it per individual drop or trade.
For a shadow priest, one of the easiest ways to farm this at level 90 are probably the
(for the Alliance) or the
(for the Horde). Just gather 5-7 of those using mind sear, halo and shadow word: pain. Then use void tendrils and mind sear them down. (If they aren't dead after the void tendril "expires", just continue mind searing, they will drop within seconds)
I spent about an hour and a half at the Pools of Purity killing turtles. I killed about 375, got 10 motes, 13 greens, and 165 turtle meat. Not a bad haul, all said and done! Of course I did this at 4AM EST so it was easier for me than if I'd done it at peak times.
I found that though it's a bit tough because of mob spacing, if you're crafty, farming the barrens seems like a decent way to get motes. Any of the Kor'kron mobs work.
I found the best way to farm these is in short bursts - flying around Jade Forest and Valley of the 4 Winds (or wherever you fancy) looking for rare spawns. You have a 20% chance to get a bag that has a 50% chance to contain 2 or 3 motes, which averages out to only 0.25 motes per rare on average. But considering some of them are easy to find at certain times of the early morning, I netted 6 motes on my first round, then logged off for a few hours and came back to collect 5 more on my next round, which was all I needed. The other goodies and toys I collected from this adventure fattened my wallet a bit too!
A nice way I've found to get a fair amount of motes as well as justice/valor is merely spamming scenarios.
have yieled me 1-5 motes per run so far.
I found that if you take off your bracers, spam 10 self heals, jump 5 times, spin 180 degrees, kill a Zandalari Warbringer, say "Show me the motes!" and then loot that Zandalari Warbringer the drop rate of the motes increases greatly. Bear in mind you'll have to do this many times to have a sufficient number of motes.
So i think i figured something out. I am grinding BP rep and motes on Thunder Isle at The Emperor's Gate. I noticed that when I kill stuff in the pens I get bones and teeth when I move to the shrine i get motes. Yep motes. So I am fighting at this spot and out of 16 battles, of the same ol thing, I've gotten motes 14 times.... my interpretation of this information i that the drops are zone based somehow not only NPC based. Which would account for the low drop rate. we are running in and out of these small zone areas killing the same NPCs. Do it yourself grind one NPC in one area and move and grind the same NPC and see if your drops percenteges dont change. You draw your own conclusions but i'm adjusting my grind strategy.
It seems that people have completely underestimated the value of spending 5 minutes every week doing
Key to the Palace of Lei Shen
. If done correctly, it's a good 400-500g for 5 mins work. additionally you can, if lucky, get 1-4 SoH per run.
using this well done
you should be able get the most out of each run.
Doing normal scenarios is the best way to farm
, after you complete the scenario you will get
in which there will be around 5
You can do normal scenario runs as many times as you want, it is 3 times faster than farming it anywhere else, I wonder why people haven't figured this out yet... Just get a nice group or just join as a good DPS or Tank to finish the scenario quickly. Plus, you will also get x60
, gold and random rare or epic items.
Also, found out that Motes of Harmony drop from the Shao-Tien Sorcerers and Fists in the Vale quite often. This is also my first time writing a comment and wanted to make sure it worked! :D
Wanna farm these like there is no tomorrow, go to the thunder island and go to the zone where you get transformed into a lizard. There, in the beach and around, there are a ton of those lizards where you can pull nice groups and get motes easily.
I've pulled groups where 5/6 motes droped at a time.
is great to have if you're a tank.
in addition to the 16 Mote of Harmony u can "make" a day at the tillers once u are exalted with Tillers.
U can also once a day deliver (on Isle of Giants):
9 Giant Dinosaur bones to get one Mote of Harmony
99 Giant Dinosuur bones to get one Spirit of Harmony
so in motes thats another 11 motes a day
If you do not like killing monsters to farm
, running scenarios for
is probably the best item in game to get
. With the exception of planting
for the motes with a maximum of 16 per day.
Complete a scenario, obtain
and receive 1-17 motes. From my experience, I receive about 4-5 per cache on average. Pretty nice as scenarios normally last 8-15 minutes. So about 20 motes or 2
in an hour.
I used to farm these from the Hozen at Unga down in Karasang. Recently though, even with a Potion of Luck I seem to be getting very little. They didn't change the drop rate of anything at all did they? Just curious :)
The Vale of Eternal Blossoms Shado-Tien mobs end up being a very good location for a variety of reasons.
If you take a toon that is a tailor, you will farm up lots of cloth, motes have a very decent drop rate, Guo-Lai keys drop off these mobs, a decent amount of greens, the Skyshards also drop here as well in addition to a fairly fast spawning batch of rare mobs in the area that can drop Treasure of the Vale.
This makes a pretty well rounded farming area, as the chests opened by the keys drop motes as well as a wide variety of all crafting mats and a decent amount of Treasures of the Vale boxes. If you happened to take tailor the chests AND the Treasures of the Vale have a fairly decent chance to drop Imperial Silk.
All the while you are able to continue to acquire Skyshards either for your own Alani mount or to sell the kill.
At the very least they should make items like this BoA with the final Spirit of Harmony soulbound so they can be sent to crafter alts.
Even making the motes BoE would be a great economy booster.
People without alts could sell off their motes to crafters, who in turn would convert them making them soulbound.
In Warlords of Draenor beta these are unbound!
- no "bind on pickup" or anything like that text, also I have seen Spirits on the AH there, so can only assume both are completely free of any binding.
I like how you get these by killing things.
Looking to farm them? ;) This is one of the best farming spots for them! ^^ with abit of luck you can farm 100 of them in one hour! i farmed 12 in just 10 minutes!
these by opening
that is reward for completing normal scenarion. It is not daily limited. It drop around 5 motes + golds and some medium quality items. But it probably is possible untill WoD patch 6.0.
from mobs for
lvl 85 characters
questing in Pandaria!
Now unbound. No binding. as of 6x along with
Spirit of Harm/item=76061
One of my favorite spots to farm
is from the
. They come in packs of 5-10ish and usually drop 0-3 motes oh harmony per group. They also drop a fair amount of
. Even though the Huge Horn only has a 3% drop chance, it seems to drop about 25% of the time from a pack of Goats
EDIT: Nerfed. Drop rates are now trash
Hope this helps
So far for me the best place has been northern barrens. Decent drop rate of greens, motes and windwool from the hellscream orcs there. Up on the side of the cliffs above morshan ramparts (the warsong pvp vendor).
Trash in Heart of Fear 10N, before first boss, has been averaging me 7 per clear. Fast run out and reset :)
ONLY FOR ROGUES
If you choose "The Vault" as your level 2 Order Hall Upgrade, sometimes when completing table missions you will get a Vault Ticket, letting you choose 1 item from a random set each day.
You can pick
which can give you between 1-3 keys. Running the Scenario gives me, on average, 11-15 motes and 350 gold. A nice profit!
My favorite place to farm Mote of Harmony is at Windward Isle,
(island in top right)
In 10 minutes of killing
I farmed 16 motes of Harmony, 22
(Don’t bother killing tricksters that really only drop silver)
of the seer,
of the mercenary,
of the flame blaze.
And about 59 gold in vendor trash/consumables

Drastic price surges
For future reference: As I'm writing this we're just over three months into Legion.
As many already new expansions brings price changes to some older trade goods. Generally the goods of the previous expansion. Roughly speaking, either a previous useful trade goods becomes trash or a trade goods highly farmed becomes scarce and gains an increase in value.
The long term effect of inflation also brings price changes to trade goods.
Interestingly enough, as I looked over the prices of a number of useful MoP trade goods (two expansions back). I noticed a drastic surge in price coinciding with the Legion release date (September 1th 2016).
All skyrocketed, prices increasing with numbers around 50-150 % across all servers I viewed.
Similar price increases can be seen on some trade goods from other expansions. Though the pattern isn't as clear.
Three additional notes on the subject:
1. This can in no way be explained by inflation as it has not effected other types of items in any similar way.
2. With the release of Legion, wow saw a surge in returning players.
3. The time between the last patch of WoD (6.2) released 2015-06-23 and the launch of the next expansion Legion released 2016-09-01 was exceptionally long. This even caused some backlash due to players complained on the lack of new content.
My assumption would be that the drastic overnight changes was largely brought on due to the lack of content in WoD forcing people out into the older zones. Creating a strong supply of such materials. Thus keeping prices down for an extended period of time. And with the burst of content brought by Legion people quickly left the old zones causing supply to fall drastically.
Perhaps the large number of returning players and the implementation of the wardrobe function led to an increased demand for such trade gods. Which down the line often is crafted into transmog or mounts.
If this becomes a reoccurring pattern it would be theoretically be possible to double or even triple your gold in just weeks or months by investing in the correct trade goods before the launch of a new expansion.
Me personally haven't seen such a clear pattern between a release date and skyrocketing prices (on items unaffected by the release) before. Have you noticed similar occurrences during previous expansions? What do you think is the probable driving force behind it? Can it be mimicked for your gain during future expansions?
A good spot to farm this is the Heart of Fear on 25 Heroic Mode.
Just clear and loot all the trash before the first boss (which takes around 2:30 and 3:00 minutes) then go back and reset. Each run will get you between 10 and 20 Motes, so after 20 to 30 minutes of farming (don't forget the 10 dungeons per hour limit) you will have an average of 150 Motes.
These can now be purchased for 2
(if you're horde, not sure who the alliance equivalent is) at the Honor and Conquest Vendor on the Serpent's Spine in Pandaria between Kun Lai Summit and Townlong Steppes.
Of course I didn't figure this out until
I farmed all I needed to make the engineering mounts -_-
By now, most 110s should be able to easily farm
trash on 25 heroic. Be careful not to engage the first boss when you kill the last pack. About 1-2 min per clear will get you 1-2
. I've had up to 24
in a clear. 10 clears in 10-20 minutes. Why does this matter these days? Some of the old MoP craftables like
are still quite popular and require high end materials like
. These are perfect for the
My favorite way to get these is by Farming them in Vale of the Four Winds of Pandaria at Halfhill area 51/48 called the Sunsong Ranch! I farm here with all 12 of my characters sometimes to get the Mote of Harmony Crafting Reagents That gets me 192 per day, so I can make the Spirit of Harmony crafting Reagents by using the Songbell Seeds, for my Tailor to help make the Imperial Silk for the 28 slot bags:)
For those that do not run Heart of Fear. Very fast and easier way to farm are
at Kunzen Hills in
which is popular daily questing area for Halfhill quests. These mobs are neutral yellow spawning in groups of 6. Spawn rate is very fast, say around 1 min. There 6-7 packs in the area. Killing a mob of 6, gives around 90% drop chance for 1-2 motes. At least the rate was that high of me, spending couple hrs to farm for my engineering recipes.
I found Skyrange to be a good spot for grinding. It's in Valley of the Four Winds and the monkeys respawn almost immediately and there are also nodes for mining and lots of animals to skin. It's just a good area for grinding lots of things not just motes.
As of 7.3.5 a good place to farm these is the
Join a 'frog group' and kill the frogs in the back. Due to their high re-spawn rate the
tend to drop pretty fast in large groups there.
Don't forget your
After trying out the Heart of Fear farm I have to say it's quite underwhelming nowadays.
The idea is simple you enter the raid kill all thrash up to first boss, loot and repeat nine more times.
Heart of Fear 25 Hc 10 runs:
100 motes of harmony.
A couple tailoring/leatherworking/blacksmithing plans, example
, the kind of plans you'll spend months trying to unload, getting probably around 500-1000g each.
4 Epic bracers, example
, same here, not an item you'll be selling anytime soon but if you do you might be looking at 5-20k each, so that's nice. But wouldn't expect them to sell.
A pretty decent amount of looted gold, which is great if your working on an achivement for that, around 1-2k
Big downside here is that it takes quite some time running back to the instance portal to reset.
Heart of Fear LFR 10 runs:
Slightly fewer motes of harmony around 90.
More MoP greens you could ever need, around 50-100, example
. Great if you can push them as transmog, usless to disenchant, realistically you'll probably vendor these.
Tons of Ghost Iron lockboxes, say 5-15, more looted gold for your achivements, and more usless MoP greens.
Around 2 BoE blues, example
. I'd say you're more likely to sell these as they come in all types of slots and in greater variety than the epic bracers, wowhead says around 30k each.
About the same amount of looted gold, not counting lockboxes.
Big upside you'll get there faster and you don't have to run out of the instance to reset it, just leave group and quee again.
Big upside again is the time, you can do your 10 LFR runs in 20 min, probably faster with the right class. You'll probably be looking at around 50 % more time for your non LFR runs as you have to run back trough the instance once you're done.
So in my opinion you want to be looking at the LFR, it's faster and has better and more diverce additional loot. You'll get a decent hourly rate of gold but a lot of it won't be in motes of harmony but in added loot. And you can only do it for 20 minutes each hour so that's a big downside.
I'm not usually one to leave comments, but i feel this one has been missed and thought i'd share. I was farming windwool cloth in Sra'vess in Townlong steppes (just west of Niuzao Temple) but i also noticed that whilst i was farming, i'd gathered 41 motes of harmony within 30 minutes, absolutely shattering anywhere else i'd tried. Absolutely loads of enemies in close proximity, pretty speedy respawn time too, and any enemy has a chance of dropping motes.
So if you're needing motes of harmony, I highly recommend here.
As of 8.1 Mogu'shan Vaults (MSV) seems to be the best place to farm this. Just set to 25 N or H, kill all the quilen mobs before the Quilen boss but do not kill the Quilen boss. Run out of the instance, Reset raid instance and head back in and kill all the quilen again.
You can get 2-8 motes each time you clear the quilen mobs. Plus you'll get a ton of greens worth about 9-23g each if you vendor. After 5 resets the raid will lock you out for 30 minutes. After the lockout you can get 5 more farms in again. You can also come in on different characters and keep farming while 1 is locked out.
Since I don't see it on here, I'll add that
the best place to farm these is
Head there with a high-level toon, set raid difficulty to 25M, and go into the first room. Kill all mobs in the first room
! EXCEPT !
the four large Quilen standing still at the far end, guarding the door (these are technically bosses, and killing them will lock the instance).
So there's two groups of small Quilen when you come in (walk into the group to wake them up/aggro them), then you go down the stairs where there are two more groups, one on each side of the walkway. In 25M, there are four large Quilen walking around - you can kill them too.
You'll get between 5-15 (usually not more than 8 but it has happened!) Motes of Harmony, and you can combine them into Spirits of Harmony. You'll also get 100-200g worth of vendor trash and transmog on each run. It adds up! You can do it ten times an hour, like any other raid instance. Enjoy!
LFR Heart of Fear
75 mote per 10 runs with my 120 mm hunter, 1 run around 1min20sec. Clear all trash till 1st boss.
Seems still good enough.
I have 6 alts. I neglect 4 of them because they are pure farmers/grinders. I invested in developing the Half Hill farm for all of them. They plant Songbell seeds X8 each day and each get 8 motes the next day. So 48 motes per day. They each then fly to Dinosaur Isle (Isle of Giants) and trade bones for 11 more motes and hearth/fly back to Half Hill. That's another 66 motes per day so there is now 212 motes per day or 21 Spirits of Harmony on the account. I use one of the alts to do a circuit of Dino Isle each week - kill the boss and all the trolls/dino's to replenish bones which = another maybe 20 motes per week and enough bones for all of them. I used to run Heart of Fear and other mob packs in Pandaria but despite what recent posts say, they are not economical. If you are a goblin and want to run stuff, run Volatiles and Motes of Fire etc.
Got 80 motes after 10 runs in Heart of Fear LFR
