EXP pots? I'm very curious about how Blizzard plans to implement these. Maybe it could be an archeology item or something.
This is probably Blizzard's way of not adding any more +Exp BoA gear.
All pessimism aside in this thread. It is named Elixir... why would it not just be a alchemy crafted item. 300% Exp for one hour is really not that big of a deal. Give it the equivalent of the potion of treasure finding mats and it will be balanced. Those things still cost 150g to make at the end of the expansion.
The one hour part is very limiting. Think about it.. if you are questing, an hour goes by very fast.. 10-15 quests if you are lucky... that is like a tenth of a zone. You are going to 5-10 of these per zone?
Drops from Krol the Blade (a rare elite in Dread Wastes), lvl 90 with 4 million hp.
The tooltip now states it's maximum level of 84
When used on a level 90 it gives the error text of 'Target is too high level'.
The experience it gives you seems to be interacting strangely on my deathknight, but below is an example of the exp gain on a low level character.
At level 42, with rested exp:
Mob kill: 462 experience (+231 Rested bonus) without the elixir, and 1848 experience (+924 Rested bonus) with it. (+700%)
Quest: 4350 experience without the elixir, and 17,400 experience with it. (+300%)
At level 42, with rested exp, with 35% heirlooms:
Mob kill: 624 experience (+312 Rested bonus) without the elixir (+35%), and 2010 experience (+1005 Rested bonus) with it. (+770%)
Quest: 5872 experience without the elixir (+35%), and 18,922 experience with it. (+335%)
At level 42, with rested exp, with 35% heirlooms, fast track 10%:
Mob kill: 670 experience (+312 Rested bonus) without the elixir (+45%), and 2056 experience (+1028 Rested bonus) with it. (+790%)
Quest: 6308 experience without the elixir (+45%), and 19,358 experience with it. (+345%)
From the test you can see that the exp gain from armor, elixir, rested, and guild should all stack.
Note, that I've listed the exp increase as '+790%' as thats how the item tooltip lists the increase.
This is of course the same as 890% total (900% with the pirate ring).
In the latest patch this item is now
bound to account
so sadly there will no longer be a market for it on the AH.
I think it's safe to say it'll still be fairly heavily camped though.
It is still consumed on use.
(edit) Changed my post to to reflect
testing, and for corrections to my poor mental arithmatic.
For more info on rare elites go to
Guide - Rare Elites of Pandaria
I look forward to stockpiling these, and doing recruit a friend as a tank and healer.
Just do instant queue dungeons with 6x the xp
Is it one one time use?
Will be farmed like hell. Anyone with an alt to level will love that.
“Skipping Outland when leveling”
From what I have seen, this does in fact stack with rested exp and it is multiplicative. In other words, the +300% bonus is added first and rested exp will double that value resulting in a total of 800% exp. +300% means you get your normal 100% plus 300% for a total of 400% exp and doubling that with rested exp will get you 800%.
I believe Lore's previous comment proves this also, but for some reason he wrote that it does not stack. It does not stack additively, but it definitely does stack. Rested exp also doubles exp bonuses from heirlooms. So without the potion, you can get +40% exp from head, chest, back, shoulders, and ring resulting in 140% exp gained. With rested that equals 280% exp gained. With all of the heirlooms and the potion, you would be getting 880% exp!
The guild perk fast track seems to be treated the same way. Its experience is added into the exp bonus and multiplied by rested exp.
So what does this all mean? total exp gain = (base exp from mob)*(heirloom bonus+potion bonus+fast track bonus)*rested bonus
So if you have all five heirlooms on, drink the potion, and have Fast Track, then kill a mob that gives a base 100 exp: total exp gain = 100*(40% + 400% + 10%)*2 = 900 exp. That's 9x exp...!
The problem you run into is that this will eat through your rested exp like crazy. Your rested exp simply doubles the total amount you are getting which would be 4.5x. If you kill that 100exp mob with all of these bonuses, you will gain 450 exp and 450 rested exp. Rested exp will stack up to 1.5 levels when full rested i.e. if you need 10,000 exp to level, your rested exp caps at 15,000. It takes 10 days of being logged out in a city/inn to go from 0 rested to full rested.
I highly doubt that this will remain the way it is allowing up to 900% exp with a rested bonus, but even if it did, that rested bonus will disappear very, very rapidly and you'll be stuck with a pathetic, measly 450% exp bonus.
Typical i stumble across this AFTER i finish leveling all my alts to 85 in preparation for MOP.
This no longer seems to drop from Krol the Blade. I've killed him 5 times now with no luck. Anyone know why?
Hi dudes, just won one of these, before I pop it, has anyone tried this and knows whether it's 1 use only or not? Do I save it for the last hour of 84 or do I spam the hell out of it?
i found it dropped from the blade guy. I made a fresh tauren druid and popped it on him. in the one hour i had, i got the druid up to 17. i'm sure others can do better. ALSO it IS A ONE TIME USE. use it wisely.
Everyone saying it doesn't drop anymore, I assure you it does as I just got it this morning. So don't give up!
Consumed on use
So, if this stacks with heirlooms (45%) and the guild buff (10%) does it also stack with
If so that would be like 405% experience gain.
Stop saying it doesn't drop anymore because it didn't drop for you. I killed Krol about 5 times in past few days, and today it finally dropped.
One time use. After you use it, it takes like 5 seconds to disappear just to tease you.
Sucks, right? It gets worse.
IF YOU DIE, YOU LOSE THE BUFF.
For the love of everything, dont die.
You DO lose the buff upon death.
Enjoy getting 1-shot by cross-realm-zone 90s who are in TBC/WotLK zones for absolutely no reason and losing your buff. Highly recommend sticking to dungeons or only questing in areas you know are safe on PvP servers. Stay away from Ring of Blood quest areas where high level players are likely to come help their friends.
honestly, the time saved by using this potion can't be much more than the time taken to camp the rare spawn. good idea, poor implementation.
Kind of a pointless item i just finally got 1 after killing this raer spawn 50+ times to get it to find it is consumed on use and the buff does not persist through death,IMO they should make the item have 10 charges or somthing like that and the buff should persist through death that would make it atleast worth getting,or increase it to 5-6 hours and persist through death.as it stands there is no point to getting this item.
This is one of those things that sits in your bank for months, maybe years on end, until you determine the appropriate time to use it.
When they say it drops once, and can only be used once, does that mean that once it drops for you, and you use it, it can never drop for you again, ever?
Got this today while leveling up my second 90... However I currently have 11 toons on the server and the lowest is level 85. WTB max level 89 plz!
I just used this on my lowbie monk, its a 1 time use.
Edit - After using it, some idiot decide "hey let me afk without saying anything", i died and lost my buff 5 minutes after using it.
Dont use it unless you have reliable people to play with.
I got one of these the other day while doing Klaxxi dailies on my Mage. I decided to save it for a level 80 toon as I had been RaFing a lot of toons up to 80/81 recently.
I finally decided upon my 80 Hunter and with three other friends, we spammed dungeons for one hour solid. I managed to go from level 80 to level 84 in just one hour, I had around 5 bars of rested exp when I started. We planned ahead and decked ourselves in as many cheap MoP blues and greens as possible to make the dungeons go faster.
The Elixir ran out just as I was hitting 84, for anyone unsure as to when to use it, I wouldn't recommend waiting much longer than 81 depending on the pace you intend to level. Just make the most out of it though! Try what I did if you've got friends with 80-85 toons that will happily spam dungeons with you for an hour. :)
I farmed up 5 of these. One of them was wasted when I died to an elite five minutes after popping the potion. Other wise I used one from 60-65, 70-74 and the I had 2 left from 83-85. Now, if you remember the XP curve from early Cataclysm, you are WAY overestimating this pot. One pot will EASILY take you 83-85 if you fill up your quest log with as many quests as you can (which isn't that many given the way Cataclysm quests flow, it's usually around 7 or 8 max at a time.). This story will show you why you don't want to save these pots. 2 of them will clear Cataclysm content in 2 hours.
Around 3 bubbles into 82, I did all of the intro Deepholm quests (about 7 of them) used the pot, turned them in and then queued for Vortex Pinnacle (which I hadn't done the quests for). I then finished them, did a couple more quests on the airship and then level to 83. Still had about 50 min of the Elixir. Queue still hadn't popped. I then took a portal to Hyjal and flew south to Tanaris for the intro Uldum quests (this flight sucks and takes 12 minutes). I got there, did the quests up to meeting the Tol'vir King (just the intro "prison" quests). Vortex popped and I ran the dungeon. It took about 25 minutes and I dinged 84 right as I killed Asaad. I then turned in the dungeon quests and left. I had about 10 minutes on the pot left.
I did most of the intro quests to TH and by the time I got halfway through, I was 60% through 84, I used another pot and finished the easy Stormwind Questchain (which takes barely any time at all). I did literally a single quest after arriving in TH and hit 85.
Ultimately, I wasted almost 45 minutes of the Elixir because I hit 85 with that much time left on the pot. Do NOT overestimate how long Cataclysm content takes. Seriously, if you do Hyjal, two pots will get you through all of it just questing while queued for a dungeon.
In addition, since I hit 85 while the pot was active, I can tell you what happens - you just lose the buff a few seconds after dinging 85. You don't get to keep it to level through Jade Forest. Anything you have past 85 is wasted.
Props to the person who wasted this on a bank alt to get us that screenshot. /salute
I tried one of these earlier today with heirlooms and guild perk on my level 29 Druid.
I'd recommend other people do the same as I did and finish as many quests as you possibly can but don't hand them in. When you are done, pop the elixir and hand in all the quests. I was a bit lazy and only had 10 but you should get huge XP gains with near 25.
I would also reccommend running any instances that have quests available for you. In Scarlet Monastary the quests were giving me half a level of XP.
In the end I managed to get from 29 to 37 within the hour. Pretty good but I felt I could have got to 38 if I'd had a few more quests compelted.
Overall a very useful potion and I will certainly be continuing to camp Krol the Blade.
Can anyone confirm that this item does or does not have a cooldown like "Hozen Peace Pipe" which has a 1 week cooldown before you can use another one? I know the item is consumed on use. I just want to know if I should bother camping Krol for multiple Elixirs and use them all in one go when I decide to level an alt.
This item does not have a cooldown. Also, if you relog with buff up, when you log back in, the buff still will be there - so you can level only with rested XP.
I used 3 in a row, within 3 hours I managed to level 48-83, doing dungeons with my lvl 90 guildie.
So there are a bunch of ground spawn super XP bonus items in Pandaria, like
I am curious just how low the XP gain from those scales down...
If they min capped at even just 200,000, that would mean getting 800,000 per by having a friend fly you around (and guard you with his life) to pick them all up... May mean nearly instant from 70-85.
Just FYI to anyone wondering if Alchemy's "Mixology" would increase this to 2h, it does not, sadly.
I've been camping Krol on and off for a while now to stock up on potions for my alts that I had planned on leveling.
- It IS consumed on use.
- It does NOT have a Cooldown like
(Thanks to quyia for confirming that for me)
- You will lose the buff if you die. So, if you decide to do dungeons: Make sure you either run with a reliable group of people, or be very good at keeping yourself alive with pugs.
- The buff will go away once you hit level 85.
- I highly recommend completing as many quests as you possibly can before popping this item, to receive maximum benefit. You'll see my example below.
Out of 25 ish kills, I got 2 Elixirs and decided to use them on my Blood DK.
My DK had the following +Exp bonuses besides the potion:
- Rested XP
- BoAs: Helm, Shoulders, Cloak, Chest, and legs.
- A level 25 guild for Fast Track.
I had reached level 69 and completed 20-22 quests in Borean tundra. Before turning them in, I popped the potion and turned in all of my quests. I believe I got 2 levels from that alone, or at least right at 2 levels. I then queued up for a dungeon and continued to do so for the rest of the hour.
By the time the potion wore off, I was minutes away from finishing a dungeon and was at level 75. If the group would have been a tad bit faster/skipped optional bosses I probably would have been able to hit 76 from the dungeon quests/random dungeon Exp.
A couple days later I decided to use the second potion on that same DK. Still being level 75, I decide to go into Zul'drak and do my quests, but I wasn't able to do as many this time (maybe 10). However, I was able to do the Amphitheater of Anguish. I forgot what level I got to after AoA and the quests, but by the time my potion was up, I had reached level 80.
The buff duration
reduced whilst you're offline.
That means if you want to make the most of it, you can get a friend to pull all the mobs in an instance and then log in just as they kill them (and log out again afterwards).
Just a little tip/addition to my last comment here. I find the most appropiate time to use this potion is from lvl 82-85. You may think that it won't lvl you that fast, but it will. I did CoC and ran Grim Batol with this potion on at lvl 84 and reached 85 within 14 minutes, and the buff had then vanished.
So if you don't know when to use, I would suggest using it in your least favorite lvling zone, or from lvl 82-85.
I used it on my monk on the 8th aneversity and full leveling gear and fast track. 300% + 50% + 8% + 45% + 10% = 413% :D
My original plan was to dungeon grind (using the quests in the dungeon) as most have mentioned in the comments, but I wanted to try strictly quest grinding. Dungeon grinding regardless of the level can sometimes take a little while as there are many variables (slow tank, boss mechanics, dungeon layout, etc). It's very risky taking the standard questing path if you're on a high-pop PvP server, or a PvP server in general, because the elixir buff disappears once you die, but I wanted to test it out. I started at level 26 in Northern Stranglethorn upon logging in, popped the elixir, and by the time the elixir wore off, I was level 43 and in Eastern Plaguelands.
I'd say 17 levels via questing in 1 hour is pretty darn good! The elixir wasn't the only thing I was using to boost xp, though. I was using guild perks (level 25 guild), as well as full BoA items. As many have mentioned, before popping the elixir, complete a bunch of quests (DON'T TURN IN YET), and before you turn them in, pop the elixir and THEN turn the quests in. This will provide you a huge boost in XP and really make that 1 hour worth it.
Im officially of the opinion that this has been nerfed out of existence for all practical purposes. Ive downed Krol probably 50+ times with zero drops. I dont know anyone whose had it drop in the last month or so. I can say with absolute conviction that the 10% drop rate being described here is woefully out of date, in any case.
I remember this dropping for me on my main character a couple of weeks after MoP was released, since my character was already above 84 obviously I could not use on her.
So I hang onto it for weeks, trying to decide when and on who to use it on, I tried to plan it carefully, like maybe chain a bunch of dungeon runs for the inner dungeon quests that usually give a lot of exp. But I was always afraid to use it, I considered like something sacred that should'nt be used lightly, I knew it was a one time use and my efforts to farm more of the Elixirs were fruit-less, so I just had 1 of them.
So Im leveling another alt, one that I enjoyed very much playing, and she's at level 82 so I'm thinking either I use it now or never on this alt, or just save it for another alt. I decided to use it now, so I Q up for a dungeon and once inside I use the Elixir, counting on that mob kills plus the dungeon quest will get me a lot of experience.
3 minutes later my group wipes and I lose the buff. T_T
Edit: fixed typos
Just used one on my shadow priest, staked up 23 completed quests including some dungeon quests and popped it when I hit level 75, I got 3 levels from this, did the 6 quests at the amphitheatre and 6 more quests at ice crown after that. This gave me enough xp to reach level 80!
This info is from my personal experience, farmed this guy for 2 weeks now, got 7 flasks total.
Spawn time: around 1h 30min
Around 9% drop rate (had once 7 kill-streak without 1 flask, so be ready for farming)
BoA flask, can only trade with characters you have on the current realm.
300% exp gain + I can confirm that the exp stacks with heirloom items and guild perk. can only be used on lvl 84 or lower + I can confirm that If you DIE, you will loose the flask-buff so be carefull!
Happy farming, Deadmouse - Grim Batol :)
I got 1 in 16 kills, and I didn't realize it was a 1 time use or that it goes away on death. I accidentally wasted min in a BG. BE VERY CAREFUL!
Great item, but annoying to get. And don't waste it like I did >.<
I have a theory, but need data form you.
Theory is that drop rate is mainly determined by sever population. I believe drop rate is higher for low population server.
If you would please reply to this post with your drop rate experience and server population. If you do not know your population just include your sever and I will check it.
For me: 21 kills, 0 Elixirs, med pop server
Blizzard just %^&*ing up WoW with this sort of trickery, also to make achievements and other personal information not personal. For casual players like myself tis all is a slap in the face and demoralise the loyalty to the game. WoW becoming a game for the hardcore and that's to bad.
A great use for this item is for the level 80-85 grind. If you have rested xp plus the guild xp items, you will jump those 5 levels in about 60 minutes using this method:
Find the best time on your server to hunt rare spawns
Have a level 90 fly you around to the Pandaria rares and nuke them for you (I had a warlock buddy do this for me, and he mass pulled all the trash around as well)
DON'T DIE! Have your 90 buddy drop you in a safe area, close enough to get xp
You will get upwards of 230,000 xp PER RARE KILL, and about 40,000 xp per regular mob kill
With rested xp, items and the elixir, I jumped levels incredibly fast, and by the time I hit 85, I still had a few mins left on the elixir (it disappeared). Not to mention all the xp from traveling and the BoP blues and fun items you'll get. All this being said, if most of the rares are dead on your server, than this could be a waste. You can try mob tagging with this with elite world mobs as well, just be careful! Cheat death saved my butt at least twice.
I level a dk recently. Full BoA xp gear. helm, cloak, chest, shoulders, legs, ring. I decided I was gonna use it around 70ish to get out of northrend. In northrend. I did nexus and nerub and saved the quests for the elixir. Then at 74 I did a good amount of quests to have 25 quests in my log. By the time I was done i was 70% into 78. Then I went with a friend to grizzly hills, we opened the cage arena. I was 79 at that time, the cage got me 80. 6 levels in 40mins. The last 10mins I got ganked in hyjal by some jerk shaman.
I farmed 3 of those within 12 kills, (25-01-2013), so anyone saying they dont drop, are lying.
On another note, i tried using one of these at a fairly early stage on a monk, (level 32) and i went to level 44 in that hour. did my quest for Enlightenment too when that one came up, and this was doing PURE random instances, didnt go out and used time on quests (dont know if that would give even more) but this gives a good image of the power this elixir have!
Good luck farming it :) stand there with all chars when you que for LFR etc. That's what i do!
%$£"%^&* i spent hours camping and 20 fights for this crappy drop (the time i could earn more exp on my alt) just because some lazy blizz worker dont wrote in tooltip *!@#in " ONE CHARGE" . FFS we dont have 5 lives to spend reading all comments for all 10000000 items in this game. And its buff even dont persists after dyin .....
Well here's what me and a friend, having one of those potions each, did:
We dinged Level 72 in Borean Tundra. We got quests from Coldarra, several form Borean Tundra aswell. Got some quests in Star's Rest and a lot of them in Wintergarde Keep since we are Alliance.
So then we went into Nexus and got the quests (didn't return them, once finished!). So in the end we had a quest log full of high-expirience-giving quests. Which means 25/25 quests.
So we drank the flasks, we went ASAP to return all the quests, we got absolutely MASSIVE expirience. Then we went instantly with a friend (LVL 90) for the Zul'drak Ring Of Blood quests. We got them, and then went to Gundrak (the nearest) ASAP.
Then went to Halls of Lightning (didn't finish it, just killed first boss for the Quest and XP.). Then we were already ready for Cata dungeons. So we logged out. We had our friend go to the Blackrock Mountains, so one of us would log our main and summon the leveling char (so you don't waste time with the flask). The other leveling char also gets summoned afterwards, but the one who is summoning, always logs out, just to spare Flask-time. So we went to Blackrock Caverns, Throne of the Tides, The Vortex Pinnacle, got all the quests, completed them while the Flask was still active.
With this friend boosting us in those high-lvl dungeons , we managed to max-out the gain from that flask and reached 83 within 1 (!) hour! So 72-83 in 1 hour is really insane. I recommend you doing this, don't waste the flask on killing mobs, or doing quests. You should either have 25/25 in the quest log beforehand, or do that smart thing i just explained :)
I highly recommend also for you and your friend to be in the same guild and buy the
. Use these on every greater pull or pack of mobs + bosses. Watch out for the 100 yard range, if the one, who put it down goes further than 100 yards the banner disappears. But since you (I assume) are both guildies, you always have 1 banner up per big pack of mobs, which yields in the dungeons (with the flask) massive expirience!
In order to benefit the most from this, we had full heirloom pieces. Head,Cloak,Chest,Legs and Wep + trinkets for more dmg.
Good luck! And happy power leveling!
DON'T DIE WHATSOEVER
Maybe I just have bad luck, but I've killed him well over 30 times, and have only gotten the flask
1 time... Once
21 kills currently and have yet to see the Elixir. I have however gotten the two rare pets from the other rares in Dread Wastes so if you haven't already, make sure you swing by them while you're camping this guy.
It seems that most of the information on the
achievement page is correct. All the rares in a zone spawn at the same time and the counter doesn't start until all of them or dead or maybe there is another internal timer applied.
From my 21 kills the shortest respawn timer I've seen is 47minutes and the longest has been 2 hours and 23 minutes so far. Most of them have been an hour apart (give or take 5 minutes) I will update when I get this vial with the total kill count and any new information I may be able to share.
32 kills still no vial. :(
35th kill I FINALLY GOT IT! All that time I've spent camping him I'm sure I could've just leveled my alt to 90 by now lol. It was so satisfying to see it popup in my inventory! Don't give up guys and may my bad luck not rub off on you :)
Works with Pet Battles.
I am trying to farm these if anyone is willing to help me add me on realid aykaria#1461
This seemingly awesome elixir dropped on my first attempt on the rare mob. Nice luck I thought.. then I prepared my alt for this. Freed room in bags to make sure I don't have to bother. Organized everything so that I don't spend one second doing anything else than leveling.
What I didn't think about is that the buff shows (of course, just like every other buff) and what I mean is that when people of the other faction see it on you, you INSTANTLY become a RED TARGET and they will chase you until you die. So, after 6 minutes (one third of this I spent running away from a higher level rogue), I got one-shotted by a random 90 horde passing by or called for help.
I lost 20 minutes of my life instead of successfully saving much.
Use it a wiser way than me (I didn't want to bother that much so I tried my luck in a way ^)
Maybe they should raise the drop % a little or just make the buff persist through death.
....Gotta say, I hate the rng. I think I wasted all my good luck on my Ashes of Alar I got a few days ago. I never felt the need to camp rares so I would hit this guy whenever I was in the area and npcscan popped. I got 3 elixirs this way over maybe a week? (about 8 kills, maybe 10)
....Im up to 30 kills, camping this guy for 2 days straight (or as straight with needing sleep). Had 3 people grab him before i could and I know one of them got the elixir. I havent gotten one :(
....I would have to agree to the 1-2 hour spawn timer. I have yet to see him go past an hour, but Sahn the tidehunter did, so I know they're capable of it.
....Also, this guy has been known to pop before the 1 hour mark (might also be why people feel he "skips" a timer, because he popped rediculisly (SP) fast a few times. (He also despawns within 5 mins)
Can you guys just imagine this with the RaF bonus experience? All aboard the train to 1-70 in one day. Crazy Stuff.

The buff duration is not reduced whilst you're offline.
That means if you want to make the most of it, you can get a friend to pull all the mobs in an instance and then log in just as they kill them (and log out again afterwards).

I didn't have the patience to get 25 quests in my quest log (hence my farming the elixir) so I only got 10. (3 in Swamp of Sorrows, 5 in Blasted Lands and the daily cooking and fishing quests in SW) I read the post quoted above and decided to try this approach. I was level 56. I drank my potion and turned in the quests in SoS. My boyfriend was helping me so he flew me to Blasted Lands and then I hearthed to the Trade District in SW to turn in the dailies. From there we headed to the Blood Furnace. At that point I had only used 3 min of my flask and was level 59. I logged out just inside the instance as he aggro'd everything up to the first boss, I logged in right as he was close to the entrance so I could get credit. Repeated 3x and had 50min left on flask and was level 61. I regret that we ran that 2 more times and didnt realize we could move onto Mana-Tombs. At this point had 45min left on flask and was lvl 61 almost 62. Logging in front of mana tombs to finish later but thought I would post what we had done to help anyone else trying to lvl with their elixir's =0)
I want to add I was in full boa gear but no other xp buffs.
Just so everyone is aware, this buff DOES stack with the 300% from RAF.
Popped it at level 71, being run through dungeons, and turning in the quests quests and dungeons i went from 71-78 in 20 minutes, quests were turning in for 500k per turn-in.
Ok listen This drops from Krol the blade near the shado pan wall in dread wastes I have killed this guy 26 times no drop. Now if you die you lose the buff it increases your EXP by 300% for an hour so if you are a healer i recommend dungeons if your a tank or dps i recommend quests or if you feel confident dungeons. The drop rate from this guy is 9% not really high.
Now if you are creating a DK i highly recommend using it at the beginning of you character because the Dk quests give a ton of EXP already so if you have 300% gain you will level fast. now if you use this efficiently then you should go up 5-15 levels.
Ok there is some fantastic posts on this item I love so dearly, so I won't go over what has been said.
What I'm not seeing however is facts on what happens to those of us who are going at it alone, who don't have that one lvl90 shiny friend who has time to spare to run you through dungeons and fly you around to the quest hubs, who doesn't have a fast LFG queue, who doesn't have a full set of BoA etc. So I had 6 elixirs (from 72 kills for those interested) and this is what I learnt using it solo....
The greatest XP gain straight up is quest turn ins. Forget rares, forget waiting for a LFG queue to pop, you're going to want to hand in as close to 26 quests, full log, ASAP. Don't drink your elixir till you have almost a full quest log of completed quests and you're staring the quest giver in the face.
- To give you an idea about how effective quest turns in are. I popped a elixir 32% into lvl61 and had only 6 completed quest and a further 9 waiting to go. Those 9 quests involved killing large numbers of mobs that were close together (so I assumed the mass killing would be awesome with the elixir.) I only gained 2 levels. As great as the boost was for killing mobs, including some rares, nothing beats quest turn ins.
- I popped a elixir 52% into lvl70, full log of quests, then quickly gathered about 10-12 more and gained just shy of 6 levels right there and then.
This time, and only this time, I did have a full set of BoA (ring included + darkmoon hat) and a lvl25 guild with XP perk. I just wanted to see what it was like being decked out in XP boosts for one elixir.. just FYI.
- Questing in outlands requires you to quest in more spread out parts of the zone, unlike Northrend where quests are closer together. Factoring in your slower flying speed in the outlands this can wast time.
- I wouldn't pop this again in the outlands unless I had a full log of quests and I could quickly jump to the next quest hub.
Don't let the hunger for rares blind side you!
- Normally the XP boost is great but rare hunting is a waste of time with this elixir. I was curious about rare farming and this so I popped a elixir at lvl63 and went rare hunting in outlands because they were all up. I only gained a level and a half. In the outlands I would get, on average, 48k for a rare kill, compare that to a basic 'find this NPC' quests which gave me 50k (a kill mob quests 61-65k) it was a wasteful exercise. The time wasted flying around to kill things that gave me less XP then a simple quest was a eye opener. Yeah I can see how in Pandaria having a friend fly you around killing them would be a awesome booster but as a solo power lever don't worry about it.
Yeah it works with pet battle XP but it's pretty wasteful.
- Oh how I wanted this to work out better then it did (love pet battles) but sadly at lvl76 I didn't get a full level lol.
Running a dungeon
- I wanted to see how running a dungeon via LFG compared to the full quest log. On the full quest log I gained 5 levels, almost 6. A lvl81 I didn't pop it till I was inside Throne of the Tides. . . ｡･ﾟﾟ･(>д<)･ﾟﾟ･｡we wiped about 20mins into it and I just got a level but I also turned in a quest I had done previously so it wasn't 100% just from trash/boss kills.
***for the last elixir I just did the full quest log approach in Northrend on a spare alt and gained 4 almost 5 levels at lvl77 then just quested to gain 1 more... just for those who were wondering what I did with that last elixir. ***
So for the solo player this is what I suggest doing to get the most oomph out of your elixir...
1. Northrend > Outlands > Cata. I found Northrend to be the best area to use it because there are many quests close together so it's easy to hand in a log full of quests and fly to the next hub to get the next bunch. Outlands I wouldn't use until I'm out of hellfire pen as there is a lot of scattered quests across the zone. Terokkar forest had some good clustered quests together as does Netherstorm. I found some cata zones had single quest chains which made gathering a full log hard to do from time to time.
2. Before using the elixir make sure you have a full log of completed quests first. Regardless where you choose to use the elixir this is the best way to maximize this buff as a solo player. With a full set of BoAs and a lvl25 guild you could get around 5-6levels, maybe more. Without any extra XP boosts/perks you will most likely still jump 2-4levels, depending on your starting level.
3. Think of where you're going to next before doing step #2. I found setting my HS to the next zone helpful because it's faster to hearth to your next location then flying or using the flight path. Every second counts.
4. Log out if you must. If for whatever reason you need to go AFK log out to save your buff.
5. Play smarter not harder. As said many times before the buff drops on death, spend that extra min picking off single mobs rather then mass pulling and in PvP zones be more paranoid then usual and stack up on health pots etc.
Hopefully my experience will help you choose when to use your own elixir. Happy questing ~ (*＾▽＾)／
I got it 1 time out of 18 kills. But ever since I've got the first one every kill after has yielded one as well. So it may be safe to say after the first time you get it there is a increased chance of getting it again. Can anyone else confirm that?
You can get from 82 to 85 with this elixir - did it on my Enhancement Shaman with food buff, flask, potions, just do the first 5 quests in Deepholm, pop the elixir, hand them in and proceed to quest your face off quickly without dying. Dinged 85 with around 20 seconds of the elixir buff remaining. And don't be mislead by the tooltip, after 84 the buff still persists.
Info om my experience with this item: (i was lucky enough to get 3 of them)
Currently i am lvling my monky monk. I have all the looms on it except the ring.
At lvl 43 i had 25 quests completed and not turned in. I took the daily XP buff for monks, drink the elixir and turned all the quests in. After that i started questing again. I didn't go into dungeons being afraid that a healer might screw me over and lose the buff. By the time the buff expired i was lvl 53 so it did for me
(almost 10) in 1 hour time.
Now my monky is lvl 73 and i will use again the elixir in the same manner as soon as i will complete the 25 quests.
Coming back with updates...
At lvl 74 i used again the same strategy as before. I took me 15 min to fly arround and turn in all the quests. I had already completed those from Nexus, Ahn'kahet, Drak'tharon Keep, Gundrak and the rest were all from Zul'Drak. After turning them in i was lvl 78 and went to K3 in Storm Peaks and started questing there. I hit lvl 80 whent the buff was about to expire.
Now my monky is lvl81 and will use my last pot, although I can not coplete 25 the quest like before since in Mount Hyjal or Vashj'ir you have to turn in quest to unlock a chain.
I used the last one in Mount Hyjal and got me up 2 lvls.
Good luck to all, and have fun lvling your awsome alts
And FINALLY... after 50 kills the first one drops
Got this on my first kill, grabbed 24 quests and drank the potion at 90% to 61. Turned the quests in and reached lvl 64 and then a friend boosted me through Auchenai Crypts and Sethekk Halls. And then I died with 38 min left on the potion. Overall I got from level 60 to 65, but I guess I could've gotten to 70 (which was my intention) if I hadn't failed.
So far, I have been lucky enough for Krol to have graced me with 2 of his Elixirs. As I sit here typing, my second has not been used yet, however, I will let you all in on a very good way to use this potion, if you do get it to drop, eventually.
You know that
farming spot? In
? Verlok Stand.
Well, that's not the only thing this place is
good for. It is also great for using your brand new Elixir! You need a few things, in addition to the potion...
-A level 78+ that has learned to fly, and is allowed to fly in Azeroth. You should also have a
, given that your friend is in your guild.
-A friend that is able to get into Deepholm, able to fly, able to run around quickly, take a bit of damage and able to kill large groups of things quickly. Also, preferably in the same guild as you, and owns a
-A friend that is able to get into Deepholm, able to fly, and able to click a summoning portal.
First thing's first, you need to get to Deepholm. How are we going to do that? You're going to have your two friends head over to
. No need to go inside, merely have your two friends summon you. Once you are there, the one friend may leave to do whatever he or she so desires to do.
I suggest flying down to the Temple and setting your hearth in there, just in case something happens, and as insurance that your second friend is not needed to come back out and summon you.
Take yourself and your friend out to Verlok Stand. Drink your potion. Mount back up, and position yourself in the air between the two pillars. Lastly, have your friend drop his or her battle standard so that you are within range of it, and then they can go to town. So long as you sit in the air, you shouldn't die, unless a player comes out and kills you.
Optional fun things:
Either party can benefit from either. Also, an enchanter would be able to disenchant the greens that will drop occasionally, and it will clear up some bag space. Between large pulls, the player using the potion can fly down and loot, though,
at their own risk
Vendor mounts, Jeeves or other handy ways to sell items helps tremendously, as well.
Given you have a friend willing to kill troggs for an hour, you should have no problem reaching 85, or near to it, within an hour.
Note: In my experience, I used my potion on a level 78 Priest wearing every experience boosting heirloom (helm and chest were upgraded via Justice Points to allow use up to 85), MINUS the ring, USING the Battle Standard, and with no rested experience. A protection Paladin did the killing for me. By the time my potion ran out, I was well into level 84. I can only assume that using the potion before level 78, without heirlooms, or without a battle standard would get the character with the Elixir up to 84 at most.
However, if every experience boost available is used, or even a character above level 78 uses the Elixir, one should be able to expect reaching at least 84, if not 85 (at which point, any time left on the potion WILL be removed).
I certainly hope this mini-guide can assist others in using their Elixirs in, what I consider, to be the least risky way.
Edit: June 19, 2013 - It appears as though the mobs that would be farmed using this particular strategy no longer spawn as quickly as they used to, and as a result, I would figure it to be likely that the likely originally intended use of this Elixir will be the best choice. Just remember to not die. Marking as Out of Date.
One thing I'd like to add.
Don't discount the value of quest giving items such as the Darkmoon Faire turn ins.
You could easily fill your log, turn those in, hearth to your capital city with a bag full of the items, pay the lady to take you to the faire portal, and turn those in too.
There are 7 that can be turned in from level 15 onwards. Then with planning you can quickly and easily do the other 6 Profession quests giving you an easy 13 XP giving quests in 10 mins max.
Assuming you have prepped and a full log you'll be able to turn in 38 Quests in a very short space of time leaving you probably a good 30+ mins to quest some more and get every last drop of xp from your elixir.
Depending on your time frame / leveling goals the absolute best use of this potion is this:-
1. Load up on quests, as I said before DMF is ideal, Do pet battles to unlock the dailies.
2. Take potion, turn in your quests and get your toon to the lowest level trainer. (Elwynn forest - Julia Stevens or Durotar - Zunta)
3. Do daily (2 lvl 2 pets)
5. Turn in and log out.
Realistically you should easily get 40 dailies and however many quests you turned in at the start.
I'm allowing 15 mins to turn in your quests, then as each daily should take no longer than 1 min, a conservative 40 turn ins for the remaining 45 mins.
7. * as this method spans over a month, again you could send all of the DMF quest items to that toon and turn those in again.
I am eager to find out if this stacks with buffs like
It can be looted by low level characters, just by being close to the rare spawn.
In my case, i got a level 30 character on my two passenger mount, and he just sat there on the wall, while me (level 90) killed Krol, so he could roll for the loot.
We will be farming Kroll since my friend is new on my realm, and want to catchup as soon as possible with me.
Really good zones to stockpile a full 25 quests in, in my experience: Nagrand for mid-70s, Dragonblight for early-to-mid-80s. I got about 6 levels per elixir after activating it, turning in quests, then running as much as I could before the hour ran out.
However, once you get to 80, this strategy crashes quite hard. Virtually every Cataclysm zone is filled with quests that require you to have done prior quests in order for them to be available. While TBC and WotLK designed zones where you could fly all over the place and pick up stand-alone quests, Catacylsm (and Pandaria, but that's irrelevant for this item) zones tend to be a directed questing experience on rails where you can get at most maybe 4-5 at a time.
At this level, I'd say just go with it. Get as many completed quests that are available, activate the elixir, and then quest as fast as you can. Filling up on dungeon quests, which tend to offer higher XP, doesn't really work as well since Throne of the Tides offers zero quests unless you're well through the Vash'jr chains, Blackrock Caverns and Stonecore offer quests piecemeal as you go through the instance, and while Lost City of the Tol'vir and Vortex Pinnacle KINDA work for that, they need you to be up to 82/83 already.
If you get into an instance, you can drink the elixir and roll with it from there, but this is only maximally efficient if you've got enough rest state to last through the run. 800% XP from mobs for an hour is much better than 400% XP from them over the same time span.
If you somehow disconnect while using this potion, you can usually open a ticket and have a gm just give you a new potion. I did this while having someone run me through TBC dungeons. I was on his two seater and i disconnected and fell to my death. So, I opened a ticket and the gm gave me a new potion. :D
about 15 kills for 1 to drop for me,i thought it was reusable i was wrong.
in the time i spent farming this item i could have made a lvl 90.
just another blizz fail imho
I followed the Borean Tundra method with my 71 Prot Paladin, but after handing in my quests I started insta queuing for WotLK dungeons, I managed to get in a partial OK and get the reward then I got OK again handed in quests then queue again got UK ran it as fast as possibel and got it AGAIN! I was chain queueing with the same group and didnt notice the
in our party, I wouldnt say "wasted" but I could have been doing better dungeons qq, but if I get another I wont make that mistake again haha! So the 70 left when I had 20 mins left on Elixer we queued for Nexus and I finished it with 4 mins left on my flask, chain pulled Rhinos for my last 3 mins.
Borean tundra quest and 4.5 dungeons = 71-77
when i farm ore/herb i always remember krol time spawn and i tell you why. i always notice theres always someone who farm elixir all you need is pull krol
then you can invite that guy and tell him you can sell elixir if drop ( dropped today 2x) killed krol 3x seems i am lucker
just invite him make yourself lootmaster kill him and if drop sell elixir for gold my price is always 2-10k just easy money:)
i wish i could sell that on ah for more:)
Use: Increases experience gain by 300% for 1 hour. Does not work for players above level 84.
I have been farming Krol the Blade for a while and i've been able to kill him 8 times. The elixir has dropped 2 times. Recieved my first elixir after 2 kills and the second after 8 kills. Other facts about the elixir is that it is consumed on use and if you die while it is active you will loose it so i recommend you too pay some extra attention to your hp if you're running dungeons.
Ran a dungeon with a friend and i was able to get from 55 to 66 in 50 minutes because i was beeing unfocused. We ran the dungeons. i logged out and waited for him to tell me to log on again so he could summon me to the next dungeon. If you are getting boosted in dungeons i recommend you to bring a lvl 90 Monk to take them down as fast as possible.
Ok so since the announcement of the in game store 100% exp pot blizzard is going to start selling krol is not dropping the elixir anymore definitely not 9% I killed him 11 times today and not one drop 8 times yesterday and not one drop.
Blizzard nerfed him and did not post it in the patch notes, hoping ppl will not stock up on the elixir so they will have to buy the in game store one (nice job blizzard you suck once again)
Needs to be hotfixed into a flask.
For people farming him 5, 10, 15, 20+ times until they get it, getting killed within 2 minutes of popping it isn't fair for the amount of time spent farming it. I pity people on high pop realms.
Don't make the silly mistake and use this in Cata. At 80 you have 2 quest zones to choose between, Hyjal and Vashj'ir. The first one is a camping zone for bully-victims that get their ass kicked in 90-PVP, and the second one is an aquarium. Both zones also got a quest chain that you need to follow, not like in WOTLK or TBC when you can collect 25 completed quest and then just fly around handing them in. The Cata-dungeons includes a lot of death. I collected 25 completed quests in WOTLK in lvl 80, and I did not get much XP at all. In 80 you also loose 5% ring loom if you have it. Then I had some completed quests in Hyjal which I handed in, got me to 81 at least, before I was one-shotted by some ugly Panda.
My brother also tried boosting me in TBC on my first elixir, I got from 68-73(almost 74) but I belive that questing is faster. TBC is pretty fast.
So people, I would use this in Northrend, it's the worst part. Fly around in the different questing-zones and complete quest, wait until you have 25 of them, drink, and then fly back and hand them in. If you are still not 80, do some dungeons or more quest until the buff is gone.
Make sure if your having your level 90 friend run you through a dungeon that has a boss who can mind control you, that you have them not use AoEs that can kill you and make you lose the buff..........
I have been stationary on his spawn for over 10 hours now, have over 15 kills and still no vial. Updates to come.
Update: It's been 15 hours. Nothing. I am going to bed.
Do you have an alt that you're in no hurry to level up? Try this:
There are five low-level pet trainers that offer daily battles that can be completed from the quest journal of ANY character on your account. Four of these trainers are Alliance, so you'll need an Alliance character for those. They are:
near Booty Bay and
in Northern Barrens (Horde).
Fight them, but do not complete the quests. Log onto your alt, chug potion and complete all five quests for massive experience, then log off to preserve your buff. Next day, do it all again. In about two weeks, my hunter has done 78-83 in this fashion and I still have 54 minutes on the buff.
This will also be dropped by
in patch 5.4, he is found on the Timeless Isle.
Do Darkmoon deck quests give XP? I can't find confirmation of this so maybe they don't, but if they did... Grind out about 10 decks appropriate to your toons level (some lower herbs are wicked easy to get now) and wait for beginning of the month...
For the raging Hate OL vs. Hate Northrend debate. I just filled my toons Quest log with 24 quests; 19 Dungeoun quests from Ramps, BF, Pens, Underbog, Mana Tombs and Auchenai Crypts (all completed) plus the five pet battle quests mentioned by Everwake in his post that can be completed by any of your toons, regardless of faction/location.
Long story short, by the time I had all these quests lined up and completed, toon was 44% into 64. Popped Elixir and turned in quests, running all over OL and burning 15 min off the elixir (curses, you slow flying mount!).
I barely dinged 68.
I'm thinking that while its great that I jumped almost 4 levels in 15 min, it seems based on other comments that Northrend would have been better. On the other hand, it seems like leveling in NR is faster anyway so maybe this *was* the better application...
Okay, having camped for this elixir and only really getting one after two weeks and hours of camping, I'm going to have to concede that it would be more effective to level w/o the elixir than camp and wait for it...
If it falls in your lap, cheers! Otherwise, I'm not so sure it's worth it unless its about the bragging rights...
It's been nerfed in 5.4. Now cannot be used on character lv84 or higher. Lost the purpose I think.
This now drops on the Timeless Isle, in addition to Krol - it's a low chance from Archiereus of Flame.
can anyone confirm this still dropping after 5.4 off krol? ive killed him an ungodly amount of times since 5.4 and haven't got 1 flask normally when i setup to camp him all day i get 1 or 2 for a full day getting every single spawn.
/sigh guess i gotta leave a toon on the timeless isle now?
I thought being a rare item this wasn't a one-time use item... not the case.
Do not use this item until you're ready to hand in a boat load of quests.
There are some great examples in earlier posts. I sent this to my monk and with
, full xp heirlooms, and fully rested, I went from 37 to 44 in an hour with a few dailies and quests. I can only imagine how much I could've gained if I came here first and read the comments.
Wish Blizz would make this a BoA with a long CD rather than a one-time use item.
This item is a criteria of
, but it does not need to be looted (from a mob). It can be mailed to alts since it is BoA.
Edit: Cross-realm mail now allows any account-bound item (not other items or gold) to be sent to different realms.
I was very worried about how to best do this "1 hour mad XP dash". Even after reading all these comments I was not really sure. What were people actually doing - and in what order.
Here is my step by step account of how I went from 71 to 78 in just 26 minutes (still 34 min on my elixir):
1 - gathered up a lot of quests in Borean Tundra. In total 20 quests completed and ready for hand-in (this took some hours and took me from 68 to 71 actually).
2 - set my HS to Taunka'le village, then moved my butt to Nexus and picked up the quests inside
3 - (note) by this time I had almost 300% rested XP - I was just into 71 which requires 800k xp and I has 2,3 mill rested.
4 - Drank down the potion and had my Warlock friend run me through (approx 4-5 minutes)
5 - turned in quests here and then the 20 other quests in the zone, with a HS skip from Murloc area in North to Taunka'le
6 - Cleared Azjol-Nerub including quests - picked up quest outside instance too and cleared those 6 mobs while running back after instance
7 - turned in q and went into Old Kingdom, cleared that with quests.
Since I was a mage I then teleported to Orgrimmar, learnt portal to Dalaran and went there to gain more rested xp. I am currently sitting in Dalaran inn with 33 minutes left on elixir and 140k rested xp left.
Complete lists of my quests and how I flew available here:
(or under screenshots if it gets approved).
I didn't touch any mobs as we ran along and my friendly warlock helper was level 90 with iLvl 560+ gear (but any level 90 should get you through pretty fast).
I hope this clarifies and helps out some other worried people. It's really a lot easier (and FASTER) than I expected!
I just used this. My boyfriend boosted me through a lot of quests. I were lvl 4 when i logged in, got 2 lvls then he joined me. I had 2 pieces of lvlling gear and no rested xp. I now have a lvl 26 priest instead of a lvl 6 :D
I completely overestimated how much exp I needed between 80 and 85, ended up hitting 85 with 30 minutes left on the timer.
A quick break down of what I did for anyone interested - takes very little preparation (half hour tops) and some level 90 friends.
Fly into Twilight highlands (as horde I had a long flight from the Blasted lands/UC).
If Alliance set your HS to either Firebeard's Patrol or Victors point - whichever has a innkeeper. If horde set HS to Crushblow (Innkeeper is in a little hut/tent thing)
And that's it! Preparation done (The longest part is just flying there as horde...be much quicker as alliance!)
So with the HS set the goal is to go from Blackrock Caverns -> Stonecore (this is where your friends come in) -> Twilight Highlands -> Crucible of Carnage -> Grim Batol.
Fly to Blackrock Caverns
Run through the dungeon with your level 90 friend doing the quests as you go through it - try not to die! Do this twice.
Have your 90 friend grab another friend and go over to Stonecore to summon you - I logged out to save time but In hindsight it wasn't necessary..
Run through Stonecore - again try not to die ;P! The first time you do it (assuming 81) you won't be able to pick up the quest, the second time you should be far into 82 so can take the quests. Either way, do this twice. This will/should put you at 84.
Now this is where the prep comes in - HS to your chosen town in Twilight Highlands. Fly over to Crucible of carnage (log out if your friend is taking a while to get there).
There are 5 quests in total, 4 give 557k EXP the last one gives 700k.
Do all the quests, this should put you at a few hundred K exp short of 85 (I was 400k short)
Fly up to Grim Batol - kill one pack with your friend(s). Ding with 30 minutes to spare.
And that's it! The hardest part was finding someone else to help summon, everything else was a doddle!
Felt like a waste in the end :(
I am back on this forum to reply all the information I have gather in the 30+ hours I have spent farming this.
1.) When farming make sure you keep track of the time he died.
2.) I can confirm that he seems to favor a 45-55 minute spawn time as that was the case with 27/35 recorded kills.
3.) When farming make sure you use a toon who has an instant cast 40 yard range spell to help guarantee tags.
4.) Use a macro to target him it makes it easier. Simply use " /Target Krol the Blade" , it makes it so much easier to tag him.
5.) This item does drop a lot more than you think don't be discouraged if you don't see it in your first 10 kills.
6.) IF YOU ARE ON A HIGH POPULATION SERVER TRY TO GET A FRIEND TO INVITE YOU TO A DIFFERENT SERVER.
Kill number 46, no potion...just a crapload of blues and a few Bloodsoaked invitations. I had to check here to make sure that I was even killing the right guy...ill keep trying.
this item will count for the achievement
gonna need a bigger bag
if you loot it on another character and mail it to the character you are doing the achievement on
and by 'Binds to Battle.net Account' it just simply means any characters on the same realm as the one who got the Elixir?
I would suggest using Archaeology to level with this, after turning in a full log of quests of course. Think about it: it's risk free (hard to die in an old world dig site if you're over level 60), and it gets a decent amount of xp with rested and looms.
I found a really productive way to farm this elixir. Instead of just standing there or flying on your mount, you can level you battle pets. Go to No-No located at 11.70 in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, there are plenty of other battle pets around him levels 23-25 that you can use to level your pets. You can still see Krol the Blade location on your minimap, so as soon as he spawn you'll be able to see it. I did this for about 3 hrs and he spawned 4 times...out of those 4 kills, I got only 1 elixir. Got several pets to level 25 too...If you are not into battle pets, you can at least level the ones you have and sell them for better profit.
Leveling an alt? Into pet battles? Best thing ever. I do the five pet dailies(4 ally,1 horde) that u can turn quests in on any toon. I also do all the beasts of fable dailies. Alt in full looms, I do all quests on my main except horde. I log on alt who has already downed elixir, and cash in on xp. Gone from 74-84 and haven't even used the whole elixir. Just thought about guild standard too. Cant wait to try this on my monk next in full looms as well.
I had 4 of these saved up, one from the Timeless Isle, and the other three from Krol, and figured I would need them all to get from 80-85, wrong. One elixir took me 34% into 84 from 80 in an hour. I also had the blizzard anniversary buff and a complete rested buff, but nothing else. No heirlooms or referral buddy. Totally worth it. I guess that means that each of my alts at 80 will get a pot to boost with!
Had this drop off the Archiereus of Flame. My shadow priest was at 10% into level 83. I took the advice of a prior poster and completed the first 5 quests in Deepholm before using the elixir.
Once I used the elixir I began questing at a frantic yet careful pace to make sure I wasn't killed. I dinged 90 with 4 minutes left. To me, this is the best use you can get out of it. Running dungeons is too risky due to the possibility of a bad group and AFKers and hunting rares is not efficient due to the unpredictability of the spawns and other players in the area.
Have a 90 Run you through regular stonecore at 81 repeatedly.. 81-85 in 13 minutes? who needs questing...
Well, I just can say that I'm a really happy and maybe a very lucky man! Cause I killed the rare 3 times and got 2 times the Elixir! I boosted my monk from level 67 up too level 75 in 1 hour time! Later today I will use my second Elixir for the next dungeon boost runs :)! :D
Within 5 runs in Stonecore starting from lvl 80, getting boosted by your 90 friend you will reach 85 with heirlooms and the elixir activated, Just stay far back so you don't die of "Quake" from the stone giant mobs after First boss.
This also triples xp on gathering. I had about a dozen of these, so I tried a little experiment: I sent one to my freshly dinged 83 druid herbalist. I took him to Uldum (which is not the greatest spot for herb gathering, nor do I know it well. In one hour, I went from 1% into 83 to 16% into 84 doing nothing at all but gathering herbs. No mob kills, no quests, just picking pretty flowers. It was all Whiptail, Cinderbloom, and Volatile life....all of which sell reasonably well (by my auction add-on, it was all valued at about 1300g).
Not the greatest way to use this, but at least there is virtually no risk of dying and wasting the buff (as a druid, since you never leave flight form while herbing). I did have a gank attempt on me, but I just flew straight up, dropped flight form, threw on a HOT, and re-entered flight form and flew off.
One of the most efficient and safe ways of using this involves pet battle dailies, if you're into those. Its a long-term sort of plan, so not good if you're wanting to use that alt soon.
Use your level 90 to grab the pet battle quests (
weekly and 3 "Beasts of Fable" dailies) from the pet trainer outside your faction Shrine in Vale of Eternal Blossoms (
). Complete them, but don't turn them in.
Get your low-level alt to the pet trainer there, pop your
, and turn all the quests. Log out ASAP.
Every time you complete those pet quests, use your Elixir-leveling alt to turn them in. Since the remaining duration of the Elixir is preserved when you log out, it'll be essentially the same as turning in 3-4 quests per minute of "Elixir" time. This should let you get in upwards of 200 total quests using just one Elixir. You can also stack this with the Darkmoon Faire
carousel buff while its in town, since that persists through logout.
DEATH REMOVES THE BUFF!
Please be aware of this and do not summon your alt anywhere near a place that has mobs. I wish I had read WoWhead on this item and saw that it is removed on death.
I have been playing this game for nearly a decade. I have grown accustomed to Blizz's frustrating and unnecessary preference for time consuming and annoying mechanics.
I rarely nerd rage over them anymore.
However, losing this buff when I had 58 minutes remaining because of a trash mob that aggroed from 30 yards made me nerd rage like had have not done in years.
Especially since this potion dropping motivated me to set up a RAF account and begin leveling a monk just to get good use out of the potion.
80-85 in <40 minutes
Pop potion, get run through Blackrock Caverns, handing in quests. Ding 81, head to Stonecore. Clear that 3-4 times, 85. (Went from 82.5-85 in 17 minutes in Stonecore)
Just thought I'd add my way of using this, I had a couple of them so thought I'd just use one of them sooner rather than later.
Used mine at level 64 (41%) and finished on 74 (23%), so I gained pretty much 9 3/4 levels.
Did my normal levelling in Hellfire Peninsula and done the dungeons using the Dungeon tool, but I didn't hand in my dungeon quests, just mostly used the dungeons for xp to make me level. In the end I had my quest log occupied by 14/15 quests from dungeons. All of them from Ramparts/Blood Furnace/Slave Pens/Underbog and finally Mana Tombs.
Quested in Hellfire Peninsula (along with the xp dungeon runs) until I was just a tiny bit short of level 64, and gathered a few quests (best to go with the named enemy ones, they give more xp) from Cenarion Refuge and Swamprat Post.. Telredor is close by if you're Alliance.
By the time I had completed the above quests I had a full quest log of completed quests. I took the zep over to Howling Fjord and set my hearthstone there at the inn (Vengeance Landing) then headed back to Hellfire where I met my friend who was going to be my taxi service for the next hour.
Popped the potion and handed in my quests in Ramparts then Blood Furnace, then over to Cenarion Refuge/Swamprat to hand in my normal quests for Zangar.. before heading to Underbog and Slave Pens (the swim is agonising! >:( ) .. then we went to Ring of Blood and did that within a couple of minutes, it was quiet at the time.. and then finally headed to Mana Tombs to hand those quests in.
As soon as I handed them in I hearthed to Howling Fjord, now level 69.. I logged out immediately until my friend made it there to carry me over to the instance, Utgarde Keep. One run of that plus the quests, and I was ready to head over to Nexus.. long flight.. thankfully had another friend help out, so I logged off again, waited for two friends to arrive at Nexus and logged back in to be summoned.
We then did Nexus with the quests, by the time this was done I was part way through 71. Still had about 25 minutes or so of the potion left. Flew to Old Kingdom in Dragonblight (quests available at 71), had a run there including quests again. Then straight into Azjol Nerub (quests at 72) and did the same again.
Still had about 8 minutes or so left on the potion, but that time was too little to go anywhere else with no summon available, so we just did Old Kingdom again (more mobs than AN) and the potion buff ran out just as we finished.
Hope this is helpful to anyone that is considering using their potion throughout Outland/Northrend. :)
Edit: Forgot to add, was wearing all XP bonus heirlooms, including the ring. So someone with missing pieces probably won't get the same result.
Tips on farming this item:
1) Krol the Blade
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge from
Krol the Blade
(respawns 35-50 minutes in NE Dread Wastes).
Macro for instant Krol the Blade tag upon spawn (it is often camped - try to use ability that doesn't need you to face target and has 40 yard range. Stand at tree with eggs/3 spider web lines and spam macro - can reach most spawn points from here):
/Target Krol the Blade
Tip: If you have a guildie/friend/2nd account, you can have that person tag the rare, stay alive until you sign in/get there, invite you, then both characters eligible to roll off on it. I used a second account to do this a few times.
2) Daily Archierius kill
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge also drops from Ordon Sanctuary
Archierius of Flame
lootable once per day (respawns 45-90min) - the area that you need legendary cloak to get into. I can solo him as 576 ret, it's rather hard, get a group instead. Clear area, max range ability to pull without aggroing high priests. Loot is still per person even if in a group so don't worry about rolling off against others in your group for the Elixir). (The Three Breeze Terrace Summoned Arch is just a copy of this guy)
Archierius of Flame
in Three Breeze Terrace (can only summon once and loot summoned Archierius once (per 90 character)- use 500 Timeless Coins for Scroll of Challenge from Vendor near Emperor Shaohao - requires Honored Rep with Emperor Shaohao to purchase - on east side of Celestial Court, goto Three Breeze Terrace NW of Celestial Court and click rock to summon him. If you don't have rep ask in general for someone to summon for you (tip. If you have rep but need coins, kill Evermaw, the summoned ship (both 60 min respawn timers - RareCoordinator addon tracks their time since last death if you want it), Huolon, or Cinderfall/other rares to get coins. (Big rare mobs drop 1k+ coins)
TLDR: Park a geared alt at Krol the Blade spawn, note time of death, come back 30 minutes later to wait for next respawn. During those 30 minutes swap to main and go and kill Archierius of Flames on Timeless Isle. I got 3 flasks in 24 kills of Krols/Archieriuses.
Sent it to my level 70 hunter alt, was level 76 when it ran out. Simply...amazing.
Can i use this at lvl one?
I have added a simple Google docs form to show some more drop rate info for
and Spawn time of
Krol the Blade
*Use the form to submit your results or to see other's results.
So I thought I would share my experience here: Getting an alliance warrior from 60-74 for twink, on a high-pop PvP server.
I have several 90s, both Horde and Alliance. All toons are on Tichondrius server, which is a ridiculously high-pop, high-gank PvP server.
I have 3 Alliance 90s, and 4 Horde 90s on server.
I recently made a fresh Alliance Warrior specifically to twink at level 74. Trying to get through the Outlands on my server is a task of futility. Gank/Camp non-stop. Especially as alliance. I should know better. lol.
So, here's what I did. My highest i-lvl toon is Hordie Blood-Elf Warlock, Ilvl 570. I used her to camp/farm Krol for elixir. (Also, he's MUCH easier to kill if you have a pet that can take the AoE damage while you stand at a safe distance, rather than a melee that has to hop around).
It took me approximately 65 kills, over many, many days, to get a whopping 2 bottles of this liquid gold.
I then took my hordie warlock and my alliance level 90 warrior and did all of the available daily pet-battle quests. (4 alliance and 1 horde). I did not turn in quests.
I had previously leveled my alliance warrior to 58. So, I recruited my brother, who has Alliance 90 DK on a low-pop, non-pvp server to invite me to his server, so i wouldn't be ganked (you lose potion if you die, so this pretty neccessary on my server, lol). He and i then ran through all the initial quests given at Honor Hold, then Shatter Point, then ran through Ramparts. I did not turn any of these quests in. The xp from just doing those quests and 1 run through HR got me to 60. I logged out for 2 hours to gain rested xp. I had HS at Honor Hold and was 300% rested when I logged in and drank potion. I had brother invite me to his server again, and on his 2-seater helicopter (yah, fast flying!), we went and handed in all quests, including Pet Battle quests. I was a hair from level 63. He then ran me through 4 of the 7 dungeons in HF, once each, turning in quests as we went, and I was level 69. Then we ported to Northrend (ty mage friend), and immediately ran Utgarde, with quests, which got me half in to 71. Azjol (both of those instances), Nexus - once each, with quests, i was 74 and twinked. ; )
As a note: my alliance warrior was wearing full heirloom, except for ring. I have 10% xp boost from guild in addition. That was it. 60-74 in an hour. I technically have 5 minutes left on it, though it will unfortunately be wasted since I'm now twinked. lol. I also my one other bottle, which I will now likely save for the next toon to go through OL/NR.
It should be noted, in fairness, that if I combined the time spent on my lock farming this potion, and the time it took to do pet-battles, and the time it took my low-level warrior to do quests in OL without turning them in.....I would have clearly reaached 74 much sooner. lol. I literally spent 4-5 hours a day, for about 13 or 13 days, farming Krol, and then another hour doing PB dailies. The real benefit is that your low-level toon (especially if on a server like Tichondrius), isn't having to fight through the madness of OL. lol. ; )
I discovered the best way to obtain these items. First off download the addon "Oqueue" and then just queue on all random premades so you jump realms all the time.
I managed to obtain 5 elixirs in 45 minutes using this tactic.
Just wondering has the item changed from one time use as used two on same character this morning?
If you find that farming Krol the Blade for the Elixir is next to, if not impossible, here's another method you might find handy.
Patch 5.4 brought the Timeless Isle and a host of wonderful, new goodies to obtain, but it also brought this charming fellow
. Now, for those of who've killed the Archiereus of Flame ("Archie" to his friends), you'll notice that he only drops loot for you once per character per day. However... this loot-table does NOT necessarily include the Elixir. The Elixir has a chance of dropping from every single Archie that you help to kill in some manner, shape or form, no matter how many times you've killed him each day.
Now, the method I'll introduce will require a few things, the first example of which being achieving Honored reputation with
. This will allow you to purchase
for 500 Timeless Coins from
and enable the summoning of Archie and his friends at the shrine north/northwest of the town in the middle of the Isle. You will also need either the ability to crowd-control the NPC's surrounding him (watch out for
!), a healer with you, a tank or, if you're a ridiculously-overpowered Discipline Priest, just a box of tricks at the ready.
The main entrance to Archie's shrine is usually guarded by two Eternal Kilnmasters. If you're a stealth class or, if you've looted a
, simply run by them and the other NPC's towards the shrine. However, for the rest of us, it isn't quite that easy. Fortunately, there's a small side-entrance to the area a little west of the main, southern entrance. You'll know you're headed in the right direction when you meet a Death Adder sitting by a tree stump. Run past the Death Adder (which is usually facing west) up the grassy incline to a 2nd tree stump and a tree behind it to the north. Now, it's likely that you'll see a rocky ramp to the east of you that you can simply run up and enter the shrine-area via the southwest.
Here's where it gets tricky. Behind the monolithic rock will lie a Blazebound Chanter and one or two patrolling NPC's, being either a chanter or an Eternal Kilnmaster. Try to avoid the Kilnmasters at all cost, if you can, for if they're aggroed and you're some distance from them, they'll catch up to you in an instant with
and generally turn you into quivering, bloody sushi. You're also going to encounter the aforementioned High Priest of Ordos, who will need to be kited by yourself or somebody else, while another person activates the shrine with their Scroll of Challenge.
When the challenge has been set forth, Archie will appear at the northern end of the shrine, looking as majestic as ever in his shiny, hairy, yak armor. Use a ranged spell/skill to aggro him, taking extra care not to have him run through any Eternal Kilnmasters for aforementioned reasons, and kite him through the other NPC's and out of the shrine area to the southwest or southeast.
Now, here's where you become truly evil. (Even more evil if you're on a heavily-overpopulated server.) You'll be kiting Archie to the western side of town, where people usually congregate to form groups to fight the Celestials, or just "chew the fat" in general. However, if there's one thing I've noticed in my adventures, it's that people love to party. Especially when there's fire, and lots of it. Kite Archie into town where one or more brave fools will "pick up the reins" and fight him themselves.
The glorious thing about this method is, everybody loves a rare-elite. There's always a chance that a shiny will drop so, no matter how many times one dies during the process, one is usually going to keep that rare-elite aggroed so that he doesn't "reset" and run back to his original spot with full health & abilities. If you feel like continuing to fight Archie among the others, certainly feel free to do so. However, you've more than earned your loot with this method, so feel free to sit back and have a giggle as the number of dead bodies piles up at an exponential rate.
Hope this helps!
Hey, I have farmed this guy all day, and only gotten one potion so far. I'm not sure if i'm just unlucky, or if your account can only loot one potion per day?
With all heirlooms, a single pot will take you from 80-85 in about 40 minutes, if a well-geared friend runs you through Stonecore 5-6 times (depends on your rested XP). Tested this on June 16, 2014, worked like a charm.
At 85, with 19 minutes left on the pot, I hit 85 and the buff disappeared.
Be aware: When using this potion, Blizzard will not refund it if you die.
The buff goes away when dead, and does persist through death like most flasks. Use wisely. Preferably through the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.
60 to 66 in 55 min just runin LFG
I've had 3 drop from Krol after 31 kills thus far; it does seem like roughly a 10% drop rate.
Respawn is 30-60 minutes (tending more towards 43-57 minutes).
I've used the flask many times after grinding it across multiple realms and here's my experience regarding the actual buff:
Pre-60 the flask has very limited usefulness due to the way quests are designed. You can run dungeons, but there is a high risk of death and groups that will poorly optimise your time.
What I've found does work, however, is if you find a friend to fly you between rare spawns; if they are on a different realm you can kill rare spawns twice for a decent chunk of XP (Make sure you tag a different mob, even a critter, before leaving the group and tagging and killing the rare without assistance for the largest chunk of XP). This is only viable on low-pop servers.
I would not recommend using this Pre-60.
For BC, Reach roughly 60-61 while having 25 quests in your log (Ideally including Blood Furance and Ramparts quests) then turning them in will get you to roughly 65. Ask for some help with Ring of Blood, then do the hunting/element quests nearby and that'll set you to 68, likely with some time left over.
The same general strategy works for Wrath, though you'll end up ~77-78 after Amphitheater of Anguish. Questing normally for the remainder of the flask will get you to 80 comfortably within the hour. It is useful to set your hearthstone in Zul'Drak prior to using the flask and handing in your quests if you're working from Borean Tundra instead of Howling Fjord. Again, the Nexus quests give an extraordinary amount of experience.
Finally, for Catacylsm, the quickest means to get 80-85 is to get summoned to Stonecore and run it 3-4 times with a friend. Depending on their gear, you'll be level 85 in roughly 40 minutes; this can be dangerous if you have a low health pool so be careful not to die.
Anyway, the post is a bit late and perhaps not so relevant, also note I was using full BoA on each character.
This is just one of the many reasons I truly hate the deserter debuff. I don't leave groups for no reason, but when you're a healer and the tank sucks, e.g. turning your back to mobs/bosses and you get killed, said mobs/bosses go after the healer. The choice here is to then die and lose your elixir XP buff, or leave the group to keep it. If you leave w/o a full wipe occurring, you'll get the deserter buff. Here's the good news: you can promptly log off, and while the deserter debuff ticks down, the elixir doesn't. So, if you're plagued by idiots who have no business tanking, leave the group if you see a wipe INC. Log off for 30 minutes, come back, rejoin dungeons and hope for someone who has a clue.
I would like to see some form of this in the Alchemy profession later on.. ofc maybe not the 300% and add some sort of level cap (only works on characters below level 90) kinda of thing. But this could be a a nice tool for alt leveling.. if they did add some form of crafted version of this in the future!
Dont try and pvp with this.Does not persist through death. So even if a 90 ganks you off your flying mount, its gone.
My advice would be to not camp this guy. Either your server is dead and you'll actually get a chance at a fly-by killing, or someone will
be waiting for this guy.
Read about the 'Escalation of commitment', or more memorably the 'sunk-cost fallacy' when considering camping this guy. It'll grow and grow on you and you won't be able to stop! :) Save yourself the frustration and just level as normal. Besides, in the expansion they're sure to nerf the XP required to get to 90 like they always do, making this all the less useful.
Does not persist through death.
Given the low drop rate off of medium respawn rate mobs, the time required to camp and farm, and the level limitation of the item itself, I was very disappointed when I died and the buff died with me. I know, I know ... it was my fault for dying, or even trying to level an alt in the first place ... but, I was still miffed.
I think blizzard nerfed the drop rate when they brought out boosted toons. Would rather make the cash selling toons then having you use this item. I killed him 4 times before boosted toons came out and got drop. Another post on here is a guy saying he got 2 of em in 8 kills back in 5.3 I have been farming him for 3 nights and have killed him over 60 times ( I have 2 accounts with 4 toons on seperate realms, so I down 2, then log onto my other 2 characters and down the next 2) with not a single drop. I know its RNG but no way it has a 10% drop rate. Does wowhead continually update drop chances after the item has been introduced ? Im not sure how that all works but I very seriously doubt the item has a 10% drop rate
I had this drop from Archiereus of Flame the other night. It was a surprise drop, much to my husbands dismay, as he has been camping Krol in the worst way. Anyhow, to confirm, Archie does drop it :) And I am now planning my usage of this potion with my level 70! :D
Employ caution if you intend to use this item before a major patch.
I had 9 minutes left on the buff, on a level 83 toon with 10% xp toward level 84.
When I logged the toon after 6.0 went live, the buff was gone.
I also had the Darkmoon Faire xp buff on the toon before 6.0, and it was still there after the patch.
If youre using this pot with handing in 5-6 pet battle dailies straight from the quest log (read more about it somewhere on this page) please note that the exp gain seems to have been nerfed with the latest major patch (6.0.2/3).
I leveled one char by handing in 6 pet battle dailies in 5.4 and I got 1-1½ levels each day in full looms and Whee!-buff from the Darkmoon Faire carousel. Now I level a new char which hit 60 3 days ago. At lvl 63 I have to hand in 8 dailies just for a single level. At 62 it was 7 dailies. So thats less than a level each day. And it seems to get worse as I level my char.
When that is said it's still a pleasant way to level a char by using the pet battle daily method unless you need a quick boost. Doing 6 pet battle dailies takes around 12 mins if youre fast and handing in the quests takes 20-40 seconds including the logout time.
This is inspired by Everwake's comment about using the in-log turnin quests to get massive use out of this great item.
Each day, go complete the pet battle quests:
Dagra the Fierce
Then, go on your toon that you want to level.
Set up the following two macros:
/run ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogIndexByID(31819));ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogIndexByID(31780)); ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogIndexByID(31781));CompleteQuest();GetQuestReward(1);
/run ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogIndexByID(31850)); ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogIndexByID(31851));CompleteQuest();GetQuestReward(1);
Drag these to an unused area of your action bar, then bind them to shift-scrollwheelUp, and shift-scrollwheelDown
Also, make a simple macro:
And put that somewhere accessible on your action bar that you can spam its key bind once the quests are done.
Each day, when you go on your toon to turn in the quests, even before the login screen is gone, hold shift and scroll up and down on the mousewheel. Once the quests aren't turning in anymore, spam that logout key.
Using this method, you should be able to level all the way from 1 to 85 without the elixir running out.
Of course, if you are worried that you might have missed a quest turnin you can check on another character to be sure. I have personally used the above macros to turn in the quests rapidly and it seems to take less than 5 seconds in total to turn in all 5 quests - if you account for login/logout time you could end up with 600-1800 quest turnins per elixir used, depending on how fast you can log in and out.
You know what's the best part of Warlords of Draenor?
Nobody is farming these babies. Free pots ahoy!
These can now also drop from some rare mobs in Draenor. If you want them, try and get to cap and farm the rares :D I've gotten 2 while levelling alone.
I just got this from
Gagrog the Brutal
I just got one of these from salvage (garrisons).
Now that MoP is then and WoD is now i want to note the garrison offers a similar potion called Excess Potion of Accelerated Learning .. does cost sum atm valuable garrison resources but later in the xpac i will def stock up on these for alt grinding in the future.. i committed in the past how id like to see something like this in the alchy books. This wasnt the case. Though these cant be crafted, im happy to see some form of this item carrying on past MoP! Happy leveling!
Dropped for me in Nagrand (draenor) from a pack dropped by one of the lvl 100 rep rares out there (Gagrog).
Best way to farm these now is killing the
in Nagrand. Their bags drop these fairly often.
Update: they nerfed the droprate.
This will now drop from
, I have gotten 2 of these bags and have gotten one from each bag.
Confirm to drop from a patialy digested bag!
Welcome to Draenor!
Been farming the potion all day and it finally dropped, sent it to my alt, went into a dungeon and drank it, when canceling a buff I had I accidentally hit it. Gah! Blizzard why do you make it SO easy to dispel buffs?
These now drop fairly easily from rare mobs in nagrand inside of the partially digested bag. I farmed a dozen inside of an hour. No reason to level without them.
I found one today from Vileclaw in Nagrand
easy kill with a hunter
I have to update this page who looking to farm it once hey are level 98+. This elixir can be found inside
The bag can be dropped by the Elite Rare spawns all over Nagrand . Check above link and farm it. Happy Farming.
These can rarely be found in Salvage from Follower missions in the Garrison, if you have the Salvage Yard, of course.
I decided to use mine to level my Hunter (with Heirloom) through Outland (not a huge fan of the place),
but it didn't seem to work quite correctly.
From mob kills, I gained the normal amount of XP, except for about the first minute that I was Rested and got an insane amount (~5k, 8k for a rare (without the buff, I would get 3k per rested kill, a bit more for that rare I assume) per kill.
But the XP I got from Quests were something else entirely. 40-50k per quest (normally gives ~12k) that wasn't just one of those "go from X to Y"/delivery quests, which I gained 20k from (normally gives ~7k).
I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to work, but I reported the Mob XP as a bug, and expecting an answer some time the next couple days. Will update this when I do.
EDIT: Nope, my bad. I was getting 300% Experience from kills, obviously I just have very bad math skills. Gaining 1.6k from normal mob, 1.8k from dungeon mob kills, and leveled from 59-62 within that hour. Almost had a couple wipes, glad I had Feign Death.
I received this item through my garrison. I have a lv3 Alchemy Lab; with the follower assigned you will get a daily quest. It's not much of a quest, you just click him and complete. You will receive Alchemy Experiment, which is a bag you can open that has (usually) 1-4 random Draenic potions. Twice in the 14 days I have had this building, that Alchemy Experiment turned out to be the Elixir of Ancient Knowledge.
For people looking to stock up on these and didnt know how.
Go to your LFG tab and click premade groups.
Go to custom and find group.
You should be able to find some kind of raid/group named with Steam/Steamwheadle etc.
Type steam in the top and refresh to make it easier.
There is a loop in nagrand that you can do that visits all 9 rare spawn locations once a loop is completed people will reform the group on another server if they have a rare up and continue on another loop and the cycle.
Each rare drops a trophy that you can turn in for Steamwheadle Rep and 30g. The rares also have a chance to drop the Partially Digested bag. The bag can contain the elixir, a wooden sign novelty item, and usually contains some complicated wood from 1 up to 5. Ive found this method very efficient you can farm rep while also farming for elixirs while also making a good amount of money. Complicated wood sells for 95g for 1. A stack of 20 will net you 1900g ive been able to go from 4k to 22k in about 2-3 hours rewards vary with luck.
This item can now be found contained in the
Partially digested bag
dropped by the Nagrand rares:
Gagrog the Brutal
The drop rate for me is pretty good, got 2 elixirs in 2 days (about ~1 hour farm every day) along with 4.6k rep each run.
Today both my buddies in party And myself each got an elixir.
Today I found an even faster way - Not sure how I didn't think of it earlier, i did reply to my own comment but its just -so- good that I've decided to add it here:
For even faster (insane fast) speed on these... Keep an eye out for LFG groups for : Xelganak, Vileclaw, Mu'gra - these 3 spawn really close to one another, and when you find a LFG for one you usually get all 3. Kill em, leave, find another LFG.. its -CRAZY- fast farming both rep and bags :P
had this drop for me off of one of the steamwheedle reputation rares in Nagrand, I forget which
The droprate of partially digested bags was severely nerfed (I'd say from roughly 30% to maybe 5%). Some people say now bags have 100% chance to have this elixir ("I've found one in every bag, just fewer bags") and others say it's lower, like 10% of bags have the elixir.
Personally I farmed for an hour and killed close to 20 rares and got no bags, so it feels like it's not worth it.
I discovered imho the most effective way to use the potion. I got from lvl 73 to lvl 84 and still have 20 min remaining on buff.
You will need friend lvl 100 or his account (i was doing it in 2 windows).
Simply go offline with your low level character
Kill all bosses except last one with 100 lvl
After that log in your low lvl char and enter
Leave dungeon and log off
So you will get tons of exp in 1-2 minutes of potion buff.
Azjol Nerub and Ahn'kahet: The Old Kingdom is very good for lvl 70+, they are close each other and u can switch dungeon when you reach reset limit.
After lvl 80 u have to move to Cata dungeon(exp dramatically fall down from Wotlk after lvl 80) . I was doing Blackrock Caverns. It's a good decision to ask someone for summon to next one so u will not lose buff time during transfer.
I can personally confirm that this flask drops from garrison follower missions, It has a small chance of it dropping, but it DOES drop
So if anyone was wanting to farm krol for the
Heres a basic run down of my farming session i done today for 14 hours.

The Elixir can drop at any given time due to its 11% chance drop, you have a better chance in Draenor Nagrand farminng the rares for the Partial Digested bags that contain this at 30%
But its at anyones choice
These potions now drop from Nagrand's level 100 beast rares, you can farm these while farming reputation with Steamwheedle's preservation society. They can be solo'd but they're tough; however, there's a lot of parties going on for reputation farm so getting people for farming them shouldn't be hard.
Edit: The potions drop from the bags that only the Nagrand's rare beasts drop.
Step 1: get a Questlog full of finished Quests ( including some dungeon quests)
Step 2: Plan ahead: Empty your bags and plan the fastest route to hand in your quests
Step 3: Drink Potion
Step 4: Get oneshot by a random lvl100 Rogue flying by before you even hand in one quest
Step 5: .....
Step 6: Profit
Yes, this potion does stack with the 50% monk bonus. Tested and confirmed today.
Is this item even worth farming anymore? Out of the 3 options to get it.
1: Rare spawn in dread wastes (Camped 24/7 by 8 others on my realm)
2: Bags from the 100 elites, with the horrible drop rate.
3: Rare spawn in timeless isle (Requires legendary cloak)
Two options above are impossible for me to do currently since I don't have the legendary cloak on anyone, and the dread wastes rare spawn is literally camped 24/7 on my realm, meaning I can never get a chance at it from there.
And from what others are saying, the drop rate in draenor has been so heavily nerfed, it takes a ton of patience and luck to even get one.
I'm guessing if I just spent time grinding for one of these, I probably could have gotten 30 levels on an alt in the same ammount of time.
Are these even worth going for anymore?
Drank this in a dungeon at the last boss close to level 82. Dinged to 85 in less than 25 minutes with some Hyjal questing. I was shocked how fast this went by! Each quest was giving me about 55k xp, about 1/8-1/12 of my total xp to level! I was well rested throughout. The drought disappeared off my buff bar after hitting 85.
I recommend filling up your quest log and make sure you have as much rested XP as possible before drinking this.
Never seem it before but Got it on my mage 100 lvl… is it hard to get?
One way to get the most out of this potion.
For the love of god don't use it on a PvP realm... you will thank me later.
Do not use one inside a Timewalking dungeon, as the buff may fall off when you leave even without dying.
Drank this on my level 59 druid, gathered up a bunch of quests and finished them, got him ready to ding 60. My instance pops before I can turn in, so I click okay. Shaman healer refuses to stop his dps because he's apparently tearing up the charts with his lava burst spell. Tank dies, I die, group wipes. I look up and see my buff gone. Screamed at the healer and left, crying.
My experience of this lovely potion.
I used in Outland: (As Alliance)
I picked up all quests I could in Hellfire Peninsula at level at 59-60 and Completed 'em all. Drank my potion and started turn them in (Didnt pick up the new ones). That pumped me up to level 64. Flew to Nagrand picked up some quests for Big Game hunter. And some in Telaar + The ring of blood.
That gave me a boost up to level 68.
I was not rested and did quest alone. Did notice when I got help in ring of blood. I got 1500 less xp from mobs so alone is alot better imo.
So now im off to Northrend. Completed Outland in 1 hour.
Good luck to all of you!
wanted to skip Cataclysm, and with this lovely potion I was
able to do it.
Have a friend with a level 100 (obvious for powerleveling, but still...)
You can fly in Cata zones if you have
, so buy that, fly to Ramkahen and set your hearth there.
You can walk into Normal mode
at level 75, but you can't do the quests until 78. However, the largest source of XP is killing the final boss, so a dungeon with only 2 bosses is very efficient. Killing
and completing the dungeon would give over 240000 XP, or most of a level.
Have a sprint, or bring speed potions.
, sprinting out and resetting. Should take four, maybe five clears to get you to 78 -- maybe 20 minutes.
again, doing the quests this time. You can now take the portal to
. Clearing those two dungeons should get you to 80. Don't wait for the RP after killing
, just hearth to Ramkahen and fly to
. You should have ~30 minutes left on the XP buff.
If you are on a PvP server the Alliance will prolly kill you in Ramkahen and you'll lose the XP buff. That sucks. So maybe you should just run the Icecrown trio of dungeons (flying back after porting to Dalaran after Halls of Reflection) a few more times instead.
You can finish
in six to eight minutes. You should have enough XP buff left for four or five runs. You
hit the instance cap of 10 per hour. Just log out in front of the instance portal and wait. Work on your knitting maybe.
Resume the killing!
when you set your hearth to Ramkahen, and turn in while flying to VP.
I went from 30% into 75 to 40% into 84 using this method --
any rested XP -- but I (1) didn't bring sprint potions, and (2) got really confused why I couldn't zone into
at level 76. Those two mistakes cost me five minutes or so, or one whole
run. I believe you can do better than that!
You can safely 1-85 with this via daily account pet battles! (
Maximizing XP Elixirs (Ancient Knowledge + Rapid Mind) - MIGHT BE DEAD
I suggest you purchase
to really reap the rewards.
For anyone wondering when is the best time to use this potion while leveling, here is what I would suggest. I am currently leveling another toon, and I had 2 potions left for this character. So the first one, I used in outlands. I quested/dungeoned a bit until I could get to zangarmarsh, then I completed 15 quests in zangarmarsh, popped the potion and turned them all in. then I had a friend run me through the 3 dungeons in zangarmarsh, completing the quests in each dungeon as well. Then I hearthed to hellfire, and logged out while my friend flew to hellfire citadel where he then ran me through the 2 higher level dungeons there a couple times. This got me from about 30% through 62 to about 85% through 71 within the 1 hour. Nearly 10 levels in 1 hour, and was able to skip most of Outlands. I then did dungeons until 76.
At 76, I flew to Zul'Drak, popped my 2nd potion, and had my friend help me complete the Amphitheater of Anguish and then run me through Gundrak about 3-4 times. This got me to 80. I then hearthed and logged out while my friend found someone to help summon me to Stonecore where he then ran me through there about 5 times, and I hit 85 with about 10 mins left on my potion. With a little better planning, you could easily go from 75 to 85 in that 1 hour.
Just had this drop of of Vileclaw In Draenor's Nagrand. Located at 37/39
Also found one in the Blingtron 5000. Dropchance only 1% imo.
Seems to me, and I'm sure someone else thought, if not noted it here, (admittedly, I didn't read ALL the comments).. Since this is unlike the Rapid Mind one that last 15 mins, go and do Tons of quests in respective areas, then drink and turn them in. I have a 67 Shaman who I'm going to quest in Blades Edge mountains and do all quests there and then try it. I post a follow up with the results.
The easiest way to get this elixir - it's not a farm Krol with 10% chance to drop it.
The fact that many players use this method, Krol usually killed on most realms and many players stay at his spawn, jumping through realms.
Actually the best way to get
is killing rare elite mobs in Nagrand with 30% drop
/way 51.6 16.2 Aogexon
/way 65 21.2 Bergruu
/way 50.2 41.2 Dekorhan
/way 60.4 38.6 Direhoof
/way 48.2 22.2 Gagrog
/way 34.2 51.4 Mu'gra
/way 59.6 32.6 Thek'talon
/way 41.6 45 Xelganak
/way 37.4 39 Vileclaw
I just farmed
35 times to get exalted today. The bag did not drop once. I might just be insanely unlucky, but I think they removed the bag from the Nagrand rares. Good luck farming for this in Nagrand, hopefully this wasn't removed.
Went from 36-68 using 4 potions in succession solely dungeon grinding on a Warrior tank with full heirloom gear :) Absolutely superb potion! You also do not lose the buff if you die.
Can anyone confirm these drop post 7.0? I have not received any yet after farming for 2 days.
To all those wondering if this elixir is still dropping from
after 7.0. I talked to a GM today about this and this is what he said:
We've had a few reports of the Elixir not dropping that our developers are looking into.
It would be awesome if you could use the Submit Bug option to add your voice to it,
as the more reports they get, the quicker it'll be checked into.
So if you have this issue too, use the "Submit Bug" option from the Help-menu in-game so it gets looked at as fast as possible.
Instead of farming this rare elixir you are better off buying
Elixir of the Rapid Mind
from the auction house. Its buff even persists through death unlike the buff granted by
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge
A quick strategy I use to optimize my chances to get this Elixir is constintly swaping between
and the Timeless Isle rare
between spawns. After farming Krol and looking through some of the other comments I can agree that his spawn rate has a notable (and thankfully short) pattern. From what I've seen he's most likely to spawn between the 30 minutes and 50 minutes post death. That being said, if I manage to kill him or see his corpse I don't return until 30 minutes after. This window of time gives you a perfect opportunity to farm
2 - 3 times. in order to summon
you'll need to be at least honored with
to purchase a
. Coincidentally being honored allows you to purchase a
. This will allow you to instantly teleport to the Timeless Isle and start using your
. Please note that you can loot him multiple times a day and the only reason you may think you can't it's because he doesn't drop loot the majority of occasions. After I've killed that rare two to three times I port back to the shrine and fly to Krol"s spawn point. Rinse and repeat
I hope this helps and good luck!
August 2016. The pre-expansion Legion event is the best time to use it. The event gives tons of xp for each stage. If you use this, it gives you 235k Xp a pop and 320k xp for the final stage. Just stand in a building nice and safe and it still count. Save these for the later weeks when they start ramping up and occur constantly because you will level up like MAD.
Does this item still drop in 7.0?(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Onyx1831##DELIM##
No clue why, but after I drank this I started getting 80 EXP a kill instead of 1500 EXP (Was running Azjol'Nerub), some sort of bug? I don't think it was nerfed.
, anyone can confirm looting this item after 7.1.0?
So i thought i'd give you guys my knowledge about these elixirs, they are not farmable anymore... But they will add new elixirs that you can buy for real money in the wow shop, like in pandaria.
50 kills in 4 days and 0 Elixirs, it is not bad luck, they have removed it
The item no longer seems to be required for the Bigger Bag achievement. That combined with the sudden lack of confirmation that it still drops leads me to believe that it is, indeed, removed.
This one and
are likely removed from the game and no longer drop.
Haven't seen this item drop since before legion launch. I've been farming Krol the Blade on/off and usually i'd get one every 10th kill or so. Can anyone confirm that it still drops?
I created several 100 boosts over the past few weeks on really low pop RP realms. Have killed this guy ~50 times along with the Zandalari Warbringers and have gotten
and only breastplates. Given that this is an 8% drop rate, you should expect to see it about 4 /50 kills, which leaves me to believe that this item is
removed from the game.
I can now confirm 100% that the item is no longer available in game.
Straight from a GM:
"My name is Game Master Bliathiss and I'm here to help!
I understand you're wondering if the Elixir of Ancient Knowledge is still available in game.
I can say that this item was removed a few patches ago. There are currently no plans to bring the item back. If you would like to see this change, please leave your feedback for the development team on our community forums or using the in-game feedback feature in the help section of the game menu."
okay, so a semi-confirmation is this;
15:57 : At this point it's fair to say it's either bugged or removed. The Devs haven't confirmed which it is but until they do it's safe to assume you cannot get more of them
15:57 : elixir of ancient knowledge* i might have wrote it wrong
15:57 : yet it is still not a definitive answer?
15:58 : are we assuming that we will get a definitive answer?
15:58 : or is this a polite way for you GMs to say "no it does not exist anymore" :D
15:58 : More or less, polite way aye
15:59 : We don't even know if it was intended or not but after years with no word it's not likely to change in my experience
15:59 : Of course without the Devs openly saying that's the case I wouldn't take that as final
so tough luck :(
I am convinced this doesn't drop anymore, or I have terrible luck. Over 50 tries, no drop.
This item is no longer part of
Found a couple of these in a bag of one of my alts. Not knowing the the now irreplaceable value of these I popped one of the them and proceeds to go AFK for 45 min...
Oh. I just found 3 elixirs on 2 of my alts. <3
I wonder how they will work in shadowlands where the level cap is 60...
This will be useless in Shadowlands.
Elixir of Ancient Knowledge, Elixir of the Rapid Mind, and Excess Potion of Accelerated Learning will become Poor quality and no longer usable
No longer works as of patch 9.0.1 shadowlands prepatch launch.... October 14th. 2020.
Just found one of these in my old characters bank that I had not touched in 5 years. I think I was planning to use it to level it sometime during WOD. Is removed from the game and sells for 1 copper. Serves no other purpose now other than being incredibly rare I would assume since it has been removed for a while.
Rip to the best leveling method possible!
