One of the BoP world drop patterns.
had to vendor it, seeing it is BoP thwarting all my attempts to give it to my BS.
Actually got this in a lockbox and was able to trade it to a blacksmith by not removing it from the box before doing so.
i got this off razorspine in Dustwallow Marsh unbelievably
Only problem... Who would EVER use this crap??
If u want a 1 hand sword, why not use
Sword of Omen
u get from SM quest lvl 33??
Besides, it's not cheap for leveling either... But oh well, maybe alliance needs it, since they can't do that quest... ;)
My Blacksmith Warrior got these while fishing in the river of Stranglethorn Vale when they dropped from an
Iron Bound Trunk
in one of the wreckage/fishing nodes. It was before BC though, so it may have been changed, but otherwise they do have the potential to drop from fishing.
got this today farming greens for buddies in SM cath
They drop even if you're not a blacksmith, but are BoP.
Dropped for my DK in SM whilst farming the tabard, where my warrior is the blacksmith in the family.
this popped up in a lockbox today. auto-loot ftl...
Got mine from a locked box in SM. Sadly I had to vendor it, the BOP must be well annoying for potential collectors.
Just dropped for me today off a red drake rare spawn in the Alterac Mountains,
. Luckily it was on my blacksmith character.
They seriously should have fixed the BoP thing ages ago. That is, assuming it was a mistake?
Got this the other day, in a box (so it's trade-able), but I can't seem to sell it :( Holding onto it until someone realized what it is and offers me a good price! :D I'm just glad I didn't auto-loot it! <3
Got it a few days ago on my warrior... but got blacksmithing on paladin! I curse whoever with the idea of making this BoP!
Finally got this today after farming it for a couple of weeks on-and-off. The most reliable method I found was doing backdoor Uldaman runs. Simply complete the instance and loot the Ancient Treasure, which this has a 0.8% drop rate from according to wowhead. The treasure chest seems to have an unusually high drop chance on level 40~ recipes for all professions. I ended up with a total of 49 different recipes, formulas, patterns, plans, and designs by the time I got the Wicked Mithril Blade plan. It was the culmination of probably roughly 80~ Uldaman runs, but each run only took 5 minutes or so, so over time it wasn't too bad to farm at all for how elusive this pattern can be and hard to obtain with its BoP nature. Good luck to anyone farming it, Uldaman is my suggestion for sure!
After doing countless Uldaman runs and assembling Cuergo's Treasure Maps (prior to Cata rendering them unusable), I finally gave up looking for these plans. Today, it dropped off a
in Thousand Needles. I was just rushing through the area quests and almost didn't bother looting!
1. Loot absolutely everything you kill.
2. This is one of the rarest blacksmithing plans in the game (right up there with
Searing Golden Blade
Helm of the Great Chief
3. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to make these plans a BoP world drop is an
I am currently down to 6 BS recipes left. 4 from BC raids, Golden scale gauntlets which I'm not holding my breath on obtaining and this one.
Still no luck farming uldaman and during vent talking with a guildie he goes through guild prof to see who has it. Lo and behold....my lvl 80 warrior alt does in fact have it ಠ_ಠ
Tried flying around the Cape of ST to open bottles; with my luck, I thought it wouldn't be a bad shot to get this recipe too.
Unfortunately, I found 3 bottles and not one of them was clickable. Anyone else notice this? Obviously, this might have changed in Cata, perhaps because the quest starter that drops from them is unobtainable now. Just looking for confirmation.
I looted this from
While fishing in a pool of Floating Wreckage along the coast of Swamp of Sorrows, I looted a Mithril Bound Trunk. Within it were the plans.
I fished 1,405 times before this dropped.
Good luck; hope this helps.
Following the advice of ItZMuRdA (even though his comment was posted in late 2010), I ran Uldaman to try to get this item. After about 30 runs or so over a few days, I got it from the chest after the final boss. I opened up the other chests in Uldaman if they were there (see other comments here for locations) but never got it there.
I got many patterns from tailoring, leatherworking, blacksmithing, jewelcrafting and engineering...and then finally this one. I have tried other methods to get this pattern, but this one I know works.
Go to Uldaman!
Just had this drop for me off of a Den Whomper in a cave at 91,82 in Thousand Needles. Cave is SE of the Steambarge.
i hate BoP drops so much........i feel like finding the guy/girl who made it and burn there car,:l
Hit ulduman, was lucky enough to get this on my third run.
I've been doing Stratholme runs for a bunch of RaF toons lately, hoping to get the mount at the same time. We are not looting everything, but got this plan 4 or 5 times. For those still looking for it, it may be worth a try.
Got this pattern in a lock box that dropped in Strath.
Finally got this pattern after countless uldulman chest runs and got it. I did well over 100 runs. I got the recipe from ancient treasure chest from last boss. I've done several Strat runs as well and have never seen the recipe drop. If you are farming this recipe I would strongly suggest farming the ancient treasure chest. You will probaly have much better luck than me doing over 100 runs for it. I need 2 more blacksmith recipes in game and I will have them all. I need the emberforged elementium boots that drop from trash/bosses in Firelands and I'm guessing a very easy recipe to get from the alliance side thru a quest Ironforge breastplate.
Dropped for me in Stratholme (the back entrance part AKA The Gauntlet) whilst farming for
Still don't have phantom blade though...
EDIT: Just got the plan :D
literally 30 min after this comment.
I was ran through Stratholme on my druid, and this dropped for me. At the time I didn't have any professions learned, so this definitely helped me make up my mind on what professions I wanted on that character lol. It's a nice looking lvl 40 one handed sword, and definitely nice for transmogging.
Finally got this today on my 248th run through the Stratholme "gauntlet" (not an exaggeration). Dropped from a trash pack.
Now that mounts are account-wide, it's a really good idea to farm the Rivendare Deathcharger on your Blacksmith, in case you get lucky with this baby. Unless you're a rogue, be sure to bring some blacksmith keys to unlock the chests (which spawn in about 4 locations along the gauntlet) and the Steel Lockboxes that drop - both of which reportedly have a chance to contain the pattern.
Found in a
, and sold it for 20k 5 minutes later. (Was still in the box obviously).
I got this from a lockbox, I auto looted it on my rogue who is not my blacksmith... which was not a good thing since the recipe is bind on pickup. I made a ticket and a GM send it to my blacksmith, he also told me that they might not be able to help me if it happens again. Since then I never auto-loot lockboxes and I always look inside before looting to make sure there is nothing bind on pickup.
Got these plans From Uldaman after doing 114 Chest Runs, they dropped from a Stonevault Mauler on my 115th Run.
I was doing back door runs, Looting all chest's with
( as this increases drop chance more) and hearthing back to fuselight, rinsing and repeating.
Uldaman is by far the best place to get these Plans
I looted everything barring grey items, I am up 10k just on cloth alone, I have 4 guild bank tabs full of green Transmog Items, some of these have sold for over 1k each and is very easy to sell "complete sets" and a lot of the items are sort after
I have one bank tab full of other professions plans, these are also very good value with some fetching 1-2k Gold but most averaging around the 200g mark
notable items of loot included:
The above go from about 4-6k each on my server.
While this Pattern was hard to grind out and took a lot of time, it turned out to be very profitable and im stoked i finally have the plans
Just got it from Southsea Swashbuckler while grinding Steamwheedle cartel reputation in Lost Rigger Cove behind Caverns of Time.
why does this recipe have to be so rare :(
this dropped for me today in Scholomance (vanilla). I wasn't watching and didn't see where it came from
I was back at my hearth and vendoring junk before I noticed it
Almost fell out my chair (lol)
That's a wicked looking blade!
Still drops as of 8/16/2015! I'm so pumped to see this drop- after reading comments and testing various methods. I finally got this after doing backdoor uldaman runs. 5-50 runs a day, ended up taking 274 runs. Good luck to all going for this rare bop plan.
28/09/2015 @ Nemesis-EU
After exactly 142 ancient treasure run (Uldaman) i have this recipe!
Dropped in the big chest after Archaedas.
I attach a screenshot:
Good luck :)
After about 80 Uldaman runs I gave up and tried RFD, ZF and DM Ogre wing. Dropped form trash on the second DM run, completing my BS recipe collection! RFD and DM give the best value in xmog drops as far as I could tell, so it is more worthwhile farming there.
This just dropped for me in Razorfen Downs after about 15 runs. It dropped off a Death's Head Shadowmender on my way to the final boss. I was not in here farming it specifically, just after the chests that frequently drop rare patterns/plans. Nice Surprise!
Of note, I spent nearly 6 months farming Den Whompers for the Saltstone transmog set, hoping this would drop as well with no luck. I also farmed Dire Maul extensively for it several years ago.
Just got one of these from a shallow grave in Zul'Farrak (the ones near Witch Doctor Zum'rah that spawn zombies). Have also gotten the plans for mithril spurs and mithril shield spike from the same graves, but mostly they contain vendor trash. I'll see a green maybe every other mog run.
I got this plan on my druid from Zul'Farrak today who is not a blacksmith. Noticed the price of this blade is quite high, so i went to Stratholme backdoor with my blacksmith. Got the plan on my first pull. :-)
took me 86 uldaman runs to get this plan, dropped from a trash pack(surprisingly).
20 full clears
66 chest runs
i've always opened two small chests (
was the most valuable thing i got from those two)
i've looted about 60-70 different recipes for other profesions (leatherworking boots pattern from vikings not included) 5 - 600g each (mostly 200-300g)
huge amount of silk cloth and mageweave cloth
in the first 20 full clears I've got 3 lamps, yellow hat, dagger and a shovel (10-40k valuable transmog items).
If you don't want to run back to the enterance queue to the proving grounds BEFORE you go to the uldaman. Get in, press Leave the instance and then fly to the Uldaman. After you will finish the instance(uldaman) click "get back to the instance" this will teleport you back to the proving grounds, then click Leave the instance and you will appear outside of the Uldaman near the main enterance.
got it on my mage alchemist... and it's BoP. why...
These plans dropped today from the Ancient Stone Keeper after a fifth run through while looking for the Ginn-Su Sword. Just another data point to show that these plans still drop in the current game world. Good luck to you and remember to bring your Blacksmith for these BoP plans! Additionally, Uldaman run-throughs will yield you a large stockpile of silk and mageweave cloth, as well as lots of low level greens and other crafting plans. As Hemingray said, loot it all! I also got some good blues and greens from mobs that got fried in the AoE one-shotting. It is so tempting to just blast through and leave the trash, but the real value could possibly be in the chaff (trash mobs) rather than the bosses. Especially with transmogrification loot going for good gold on several realm auction houses!
after about a week of farming uldaman (got papel fez and a few other blues) i decided to look at the loot table and noticed that level 41 to 45 npcs dropped these soulbound patterns, so i went over to rfd stratholme dire maul (all 3 wings) and zf......i got some nice xmog greens that i mailed off to each specific armor class alts (mail leather cloth plate) and whatever i already learned i put up on the ah for like 40g each but had an auction addon that tells me if any of them are highly valued to bump up the price more (like 2k+ items)
ok besides my story on my journey the place to farm it is DIRE MAUL WEST.....eldreth spirit on the lower floor by that one boss that drops that bag of enchantments recipe.....yep the uldaman chest runs were not nice to me (did 90+ uldaman clears) but dire maul west is where you will get some nice ah xmog greens to put on your realms ah too....happy hunting!
I'm currently farming for this in Uldaman and would like to share some updates and insights.
First of all, back door-runs doesn't work anymore. While you can still enter Uldaman trough the back door you'll end up at the main instance portal. However feel free to use the back door to leave the dungeon if you want, but as I'll come to this isn't necessary if you chose my strategy.
Entering proving grounds as suggested by sc2maxik doesn't work anymore either. You can no longer leave proving grounds temporarly. There's however an easy fix to this.
Go to the Shrine of two moons in Vale of Eternal Blossoms in Pandaria. Talk to Lorewalker Fu and enter the scenario Greenstone village. Press the green eye located at your mini-map and choose to teleport out of dungeon.
Head to Uldaman, enter trough which ever way you'd like, back door or main entrance, make sure to have plenty of bag space.
Make sure to bring some
, eat it and gain the well-feed buff.
Now all you need to do is run straight trough the dungeon, killing a mob roughly every five seconds (which is surprisingly easy), don't loot these mobs as it will slow you down considerably.
You'll reach the Ancient Treasure in about three minutes
+ bring a few dozen mobs with you to loot. You'll aoe down and loot the mobs twice, once after the first door you'll open and once after the second door which leads to Archaedas Chamber.
Now you'll just click on the green eye, teleport back into dungeon (Greenstone village), this scenario is outside so you can take advantage of any vendor mount if you want. Then click the green eye again and choose to teleport out of dungeon.
You'll end up in front of the Uldaman instance portal. Click on your portrait and reset all instances and enter Uldaman again for a new attempt.
All in all this only takes me four minutes
, this will vary depending on your class and how much trash you want to pull.
You can do 10 instances an hour, all though I'm not sure if Greenstone village counts, as it doesn't reset as you haven't done anything in there.
has been greatly nerfed since I wrote this comment and running the dungeon these days would likely take substantially longer. There are of course other ideas you could use:
is still useful, as is additional speed on your gear, getting the trait
looks to be the new option which means you would now kill and loot a mob every 5 second to keep both
and boots buff running.
Dropped for me today in Uldaman. BoP sucks. But in case anyone was hoping to farm it it still drops.
Kinda surreal. Dropped for my BS on 10/19/2018 as I was farming Zul'Farrak for the plans for Light Earthforged Blade. And it wasn't even off a mob. It was a treasure drop from the graves surrounding Witch Doctor Zum'Rah.
Just dropped for me today 20/10/2018, after a few runs of Zul'farrak gold farming transmog items. Nearly vendored when I saw it was BOP, but decided to give it some research out of curiosity. After finding out how rare it is I think i'm going to scrap my engineering and start levelling blacksmithing.
Time to dominate the twisting nether auction house xD
Looted from the End chest in Uldaman, next to the Disks of Norgannon. Found 20 Jan 2019 1700h Windrunner Server, along with Pattern: Red Mageweave Shoulders. And of COURSE it was my Tailor who looted it, not my Blacksmith. Curses on BoP ancient, rare patterns!
Dropped on my 51st Uldaman run off a
which I killed 525 of in total.
twice which I had to destroy while needing it on another char.
Got this on my blacksmith in Razorfen Downs. Don't remember if it was from a mob or a treasure chest.
Is this attainable if the mobs are scaled to 60?
Edit: just got this on my druid in RFD of a trash mob, 27/08/2020
Finnally got it from bubonic gesit in RFD, that dungeon is an optimal way to farm this BoP intresting recipe. Took me around 50-75 runs. Good luck
After around 70 runs of RFD, I finally got this from a
right before the last boss.
After 100 RFD clears with my Blacksmith I was starting to get tired of that place, and began looking for ways to optimise the grind.
According to the drop numbers on Wowhead, there are two NPC's which seems to reliably drop this recipe:
in Uldaman with 0,11% drop chance.
in Razorfen Downs with 0,08% drop chance.
For other mobs the average drop chance is about 0,01%.
Now let's talk about their spawn quantity and drop chance per run:
in Razorfen Downs, where we have 9 regular spawns through Murder Pens and Spiral of Thorns. If the
-event spawns, we get additional two more
. This gives us in total 0,72% drop chance per run, or 0,88% with
Then we have a look at
in Uldaman, where we have give or take 14 regular spawns per run, all in The Stone Vaults. This gives us a 1,54% total drop chance from this mob. In addition we have
which gives us additional 1,2% drop chance, bringing the total number per run up to 2,74%.
s in Razorfen Downs have fewer mobs with lower drop chance spread through a bigger part of the Dungeon. As a contrast to
s in Uldaman with higher drop chance from mobs in a specific small part of the Dungeon, and we get the additional chance from
Uldaman will be my new go-to place from now on, even despite already having farmed it through and through with my Jewelcrafter for
This dropped for me today in an unlocked Darkwood Chest in Uldaman by the enchanting trainer. I tried to get my paladin there in time to open the chest, but the chest despawned and the pattern was mailed to my warlock.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that it can drop in 9.2.5. I wouldn't necessarily say Uldaman is a golden goose, as this was about run number 25 for a JC design I'm after, but it is "possible" to get it there. Goodluck!
