Herod's shoulder is an excellent shoulder for a level 37-40 warrior and/or paladin. It is quite a bit of armor for this level and the stats will improve your damage and health, but remember, this is only mail so it would probably be best to upgrade to a plate shoulder after level 40.

i can literally feel my blood presure skyrocket when i see this on hunter noobs...who dont realise they should be wearing fleshhide shoulders...whats worse than a hunter with this? a hunter with this AND the Ravager 2hand axe that also drops of Herod

This is not hunter armor. Rollng on this against a warrior, paladin or shaman only helps to tarnish the hunter class even further. I mean c'mon, what are you gonna do with the +str?

Hunters wearing Herod's Shoulder is a moniker to the class that says.. "I roll on anything!" Especially considering hunters don't get mail until level 40, while a warrior or pally in your group can use the armor straight away.

I agree with the fact that hunters shouldn't roll on this, Wait till you get mail at 40 and get some skeletal shoulders!!! I'm a 44 Hunter and beast mastery is my game, but I'm also high on agility... These aren't very good shoulders for MOST hunters, however some hunters melee alot in which case the strength is good for them, so stop hatin on the hunters folks, some of them DO specialize in melee... Granted... That's stupid, because we're marksmen!!!
Hunters... Don't roll on this, you don't need it!
Oh and those of you who think it's best to stay with leather armor... What the hell are you thinking???
I have the same agility and stamina with mail as I did with leather, and I have more than twice the armor rating, you just have to be smart about what you wear!

Yeah this or http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13132 are pretty much best shoulder pieces available for warrior and paladin. Ofcourse can be useful for other classes too, but they should need it only after they can use it.

I've had this since about level 42 on my Shaman(I couldn't get it to drop before sadly), and still have it at 48. No shoulder piece looks as cool, or even half as decent as this.

Looks extremely kick ass with Khan's armor.

I agree that if you are running in a group a Hunter should not roll on these, however if you get ran through by someone (a lvl 70 loc friend of mine ran me through) there is no reason a hunter shouldn't use these. I still have them on my 48 hunter because I have not gotten anything better from drops or found any in the AH for a decent price.

But if a hunter is in a group with a warrior or pally and they roll, someone should slap them.

To be honnest, this armor works goo with a shammy Dual-weilder (thats two one handed weapons) now you can use this all the way to lvl 60 because it give you the stam you need, but i t can be replaced with diffrent shoulders to do alot better things, but if you just looking for health this will do till 60 :D trust me i am using it :D

Well, if you are in a group with a paladin who is already better equipped when Herod's Shoulder drops, plus a mage and a warlock and a priest, then I guess the hunter in the group is the only one who will draw some benefit from the item. Otherwise I agree, it is not necessarily the perfect hunter item, especially if the hunter in question specializes in marksmanship. But as has been said before, there are hunters who engage in a lot of melee action, and they can actually benefit from the stats quite well.

I feel I should come to the hunters defence over this item as a lot of hunters seem to get complained at about it.
What it is important to remember is that hunters share their stats with their pet. Ranged AP converts to the pets ranged AP/Spell damage, Stamina, obviously converts to pet's stamina, Resistances and armor all convert to the pet from the hunter's stats.

In the case of Fleshhide Shoulders Vs. Herod's Shoulder The following are the benefits to the pet:
Fleshhide: RAP: +1.32, Stamina: +4.5 (+45 Health), 0 Resistance, 33.25 Armor.
Herod's Shoulder: RAP: 0. Stamina: +4.5 (+45Health). 0 Resistance, 68.6 Armor
As you can see the armor to the pet from Herod's is double that of Fleshhide but losses the 1.3 ranged AP. In my oppinion the single point of RAP is pointless. Assuming you are going PvE leveling your pet's survivability is top priority since it is your own personal tank.

Of course with that being said it has to be examined from a PvP perspective. The Agility from the Fleshhide would give (at level 60 since that is the lowest level I have formulae for) 0.18% crit chance, 0.23% dodge (again at 60) and only 6 RAP. I am aware that the values aren't exactly accurate as formulae change with each level but it helps to put these items in perspective.
The extra armor of Herod's provides some extra mitigation for PvP (because you all know you kill the hunter not the pet).

So there is the breakdown for you, I won't deny that a Warrior/Paladin/Shaman would benefit more from these than a hunter, but the shoulders definately do have their use to a hunter besides looking funky, More armor for the hunter and his/her pet and more health for both of them.

guys, just need to say this... think ive found some better shoulders for 39 pvp warrs or retri pallies... check it out: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9389

think about it... u get these with "of the bear..." thats 10 stam + 8-9stam + 8-9 strength, making it statly correct to:
18-19 stam and 8-9 str...

thats up to 4 stam and 4 str more then these... even tho u loose about 115 armor, i think reveloshes shoulders are way better...
Now, this is only my opinion, but i think people would agree with me, clearly, revelosh drops the best pvp shoulders ;)

And if u doubt me, check out my shaman marcuos on EU server, lvl 42. He got them of the bear :) looks great to...

But Herod's shoulders are great tho ;) if u dont wanna farm some leather shoulders witch might drop of the monkey, falcon or wathever there is, go for herod...
Dont bother buyin skeletal shoulders, 3 armor isnt worth its price in gold :) And Herod looks pretty cool to, but thats just mine oppinion tho

PS: this wore added due the big changes to low lvl instances not long ago, cant remember wich patch... Thats why they havent been known as the ultimate pvp shoulders :)

i think that needing on this a shaman is very reasonable to all those who disagree. i usually instance wit palla friend ofmine, and luckily he had the shoulder. However, te shoulder didnt drop :( I got the equivalent helm though :)

I disagree, as my hunter is wearing it. For the strength? No, for the extra armor and the fact that since everything else I am wearing has almost purely agility, I found myself lacking stamina. It's a huge hit of stamina and one that's hard to replace, especially since there aren't any notable hunter shoulders in the low 40s range. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I just cannot think of any at the time of posting this.)

I do agree that it is primarily Paladin/Warrior gear (even shamans getting this after they pass 40 as well), and all hunters should check their current shoulders and also check with other group members. If no one else needs and you need the stamina then ask them if it's all right. Most groups will not have a problem with it.

Sorry to bother you all with class blathering again but I just want to point out that this can be a hunter item. Agreed, you shouldn't ninja it off a warrior/paladin and probably a shaman, but chances are that the tank already has this item and is going for Raging Berserker's Helm. If you don't have any better shoulders do yourself a favor and roll on this one, as 15+ stam is alot of extra health, period. And the extra strength can always come in handy in tricky melee situations.

But in my opinion, it is not smart to go to SM just for these shoulders. Partially because SM is a bitch (in my opinion), partially because groups for SM are hard to find (again, in my opinion), partially because there are better hunter shoulders (third time's a charm: in my opinion!)

I'm talking about Fleshhide Shoulders. Yes, they are leather, but it is worth ditching 100 armor and 1 str for 6+ agi. I've been unfortunate with these, it took me over 15 runs before they actually dropped, and when they did a rogue won the roll (anyone that's now going to say rogues/feral druids deserve these over hunters - no, they don't).

Anyway, that's my point of view on hunter shoulders in the 40ish levels.

coming from a well geared/skilled hunter myself

I at the moment am leveling another hunter alt on a pvp server
and i would never roll on this to use if it dropped

2 main reasons

1. we DONT need strength
2. wearing them makes u look like a horrible hunter
i see them on other hunters and assume huntard, i see them on hunters in pvp, and i assume poor gear as well and they get targeted first

still thecaptain177. i have seen hunters wearing this and im like you greedy bitch. my friend was a hunter and he wore this all the way until lvl 60 just because it looked cool. there is plenty of good shoulders with ap or agility on them at lvl 40. the stamina wouldn't matter because as a hunter nothing should be attacking you if your pet is attacking something but yeah it is good for survival.

I haved farmed this should piece again and again, and it is ever soo useful.

Yet what I dont get is why some hunters roll on it. but nvm about classes. The Stam bonus is a real must for anyone and the Strenght never hurt too. Wouldn't bother using it for disenchanting since you won't get much out of it :-)

I've ran through the armory multiple times....i just got 3 runs from an 80...and they still dont drop.
it says it has a 33% drop rate so why hasnt it dropped...everything else has.

To answer Lomuga yes there are a pair of shoulders with the graphic on both shoulders they are from black wing lair : Drake Talon pauldrons.

For Enhancement Shamans, getting the Earthbound Shoulderguards of the Bandit or of the Wild (from the Random Dungeon bag) give much better stats than these. Still, if you don't want to run a bunch of dungeons in hopes of getting a random item, these are worth it.

Isn't there an item in game which is basically Herod's Shoulders, but on both of the players shoulders instead of just the one? It's not the Big Bad Pauldrons, I know that.

Does anyone know of any other pieces of shoulder armor apart from Bonespike Shoulder (which is not obtainable in game) and Champion Herod's Shoulder that only go on one shoulder and not both. If anyone could find any I would really appreciate it.

Once someone gave me a run through this dungeon, and this dropped. I rolled need on my Paladin. Dude was a DK, he rolled need as well because "it's better for Warriors". Never mind that I was the only person aside from him there, and that it's also good for Paladins (far better than the white shoulders I had at the time)...dude wound up winning and I was sad. I never did get another one. :(

I just noticed now, going through my old characters to add things to my appearance tab, that these has now turned into Plate for whatever reason. They've not been obtainable for years, now they change them?
